  1. This is it! Everyone the time has come for me to bring my DCS video series titled Eleven, to a close. When I started this video series well over a year ago I had no idea that anyone would actually care to watch it. I mainly made the videos for my own personal edification and tastes. Now 20+ videos later (broken up into Eleven parts) I must bring this to a close. Will I be making or posting videos anytime soon? Probably not, unless the creative bug bites me again. But a big thanks to those who did take to time to watch and critique my videos. And for those few that chose to bash (thankfully no one here), I thank you as well for you took the time to single out my videos among the hundreds of DCS videos that get posted to Youtube on a daily basis. The Mighty Eagle
  2. Thanks, my next videos will be back at 1080p
  3. I just completed another video as part of my series XI (eleven) Part 11 Charlie titled We are the Night. This video is a bit degraded in quality for several reasons: First, it was filmed during DCS night hours and capturing night scenes in DCS is a while different beast in terms of quality when comparing to daylight hours. *To get "clearer nights" for your rendered video it is better to film during dawn or dusk hours and then place a "virtual" pseudo filter on the clips during the video editing process. However, in this video I wanted all the night distortions to be intact. I wanted it to try to simulate the level of strain that comes with looking through NVGs, and the particles, debris, fog, etc. that gets stirred up in the late night and early morning hours due to atmospheric effects. Second, to do some of the effects for this video (i.e. night vision, FLIR, etc.) I had to switch video editing programs and use a program I am unfamiliar with called Lightworks. Lightworks is a powerful tool and I would rank far ahead of windows movie maker (but still far behind Sony Vegas) in terms of abilities and usability. On the plus side. there is a completely free version of the program available and there are no trial or rendering time limitations. Unfortunately Lightworks is not intuitive, has a steep learning curve, and the free version has some rendering limitations (i.e. file type and quality). Finally, Youtube kills uploaded video quality. You can capture, edit, and render clips with a moderate level of quality and ok framerate and they will look decent on your machine (or if transferred via physical media). However, upload them to Youtube, or a similar mass sharing online streaming service, and it is like cooking prime rib in the microwave. I understand that things have to be compressed to be effectively uploaded and shared online as space is a premium and servers don't pay for themselves. So when creating a video I always capture and render it at the highest level of quality possible, even it means dropping the frame rate drastically. You can easily get away with 24-30fps and still have a smooth and "cinematic" looking video. *This is my first ever video were none of the flying is done by me. All AI sycophants.
  4. I just completed part b of this video titled: A Hero's Welcome For context the complete story behind this video and the previous one (Fallen Angel) can be found here: (XI Parts 1-7) (XI Parts 8-10 and interlude) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJqAZtXkKIWWcYBVGQugevxwVOBy6Fg_P This video series has been a year in the making, and a lot of the content is pre DCS 1.5.
  5. Thanks Gunja, I mainly do this as a spare time hobby that I pick up when I find a "muse" :). Didn't think there was much interest in my stuff, but glad to share with those interested.
  6. Hello everyone, The time has come for me to close out my video series titled XI (Eleven) which is fictional DCS World scenario I created based on NATO vs Russia cold war gone hot in Black Sea region. My most recent video segment titled: Fallen Angel will be the last segment in this series. That first seven videos I have made for Eleven can be found here: I hope you all enjoy:thumbup:
  7. I re-did one of the videos I made about a year a and half ago, not sure that I'm satisfied with it. But feel free to have a look. 25qxIw7LymQ There a few bugs in the new open beta version of DCS that make airport ops and AI formations a bit tricky. Most seem to be carry-overs from previous versions, but appear to be a bit magnified. Overall, it seems to run smoother and I have no issues cranking the settings up on my GTX 770.
  8. Internally it is a 1980s F-15C, but the external model is of a 2000s F-15C (IFF blisters and antennas).
  9. Online: Depends If you have good mutual support, good coms between players, and/or AWACs, I say go for it. in the F-15 Flying high can work in your favor if you fighting with good wingmen. It takes good communication and coordination, but can be effective. One section up high with radar on amd one section medium to low to bounce anyone that slips through the net or tries to pop-up or zoom climb (preferably radar off and eyes glued to the terrain and TEWs). Yes it gives the opposing force (especially if they are Russian) a better radar picture of you, but you also have the APG63 (although the 70s-80s vintage version). Also gives your AMRAAMs and SPARROWs a bit more range because they go into "loft mode". Downsides are, you can't maneuver and escape as easy. You will bleed a lot of speed trying to maneuver. IRST can still get you. A lot of fights turn into pure missile slinging duels (everyone cuts loose with their active radar missiles seeing who will blink first). If you are on an mixed A/A and A/G server, the AI will have an easier time firing SAMs at you. Offline: Doesn't matter much, the AI already knows where you are in relation to everything else. Although flying high makes it easier for MIG-31s, SA-10/20s, PAC, or ships (usually AEGIS-guided SM missiles) to bite you as you set up the perfect intercept parameters which the AI can then act on.
  10. Went with a different approach to this training video. Completely different soundtrack and type of music. I have always had an eclectic taste, so I release it not everyone's cup of tea (especially the younger generation's.) Be that as it may, I had fun making it and it for my own personal liking. If you like it please comment and share, if not then you just as welcome to critique, decry, or to simply ignore it and move on.
  11. Yes and no... Unless the aircraft is covered in dry ice (figuratively) and not maneuvering/moving at (creating friction), an modern all aspect IR missile is going to track. In addition, just about all missiles are programed with countermeasure (flare) rejection. I dodged more and few R-73s lobbed at me during that fight. I think you can catch the contrails and there is a shot of a missile that crashed into the ground behind me. It was the guy I underestimated and really was not paying attention to that got me. :) No arguments about that here Thanks for taking time to watch, I glad you and others enjoy it. Video making is a side hobby of mine and I am always trying to refine my abilities, so keep the comments coming.
  12. Meh... not hard to do with with one or two tanks, particularly at low level. In fact I prefer to always carry two, three is a no go unless it is for the sole purpose to lofting SLAMMERS at long range (not really modeled in the game). Sigh....duly noted The 600 gal drop tank is not light by any means, but the real F-15 never had much of a problem lugging them around. Now FAST PACKs/CFTs on the other hand...but only the F-15E/I/S/K/SG seem to carry them now.
  13. :megalol: If you HOST IT....they will come
  14. Ehhh attack pilots drive pickle wagons :pilotfly:
  15. Nope didn't work, now I hate the aircraft with a flaming passion. I will give Su-25s driver this, that joker is hard to land in game. If you aren't careful and don't manage your weight before touchdown it is easy to slam that joker into the runway. The majestic eagle on the other hand just glides on down, you just have to make sure you don't come in too fast or steep or else you are going to run out of runway.:D
  16. Willey Coyote had the Road Runner... Sideshow Bob had his rakes... and the late great POTUS Richard Nixon hated everyone... And I have a personal and passionate hate in my heart for the Su-25 FROGFOOT. A few months ago while I was RTB from a massive dogfight an errant Su-25 took a pot shot at me and tore my F-15 up pretty bad. Furious that a sub sonic ground ponder would dare fire on a mighty and majestic F-15, I managed to get a clip of me running him through. Yes, I destroyed a 35+ million dollar plane that is of limited numbers and no longer in production. But at least I taught him a lesson (and more importantly I killed him). Recently I was tooting around doing some instant action with AI and I managed to get got again. All I can say is EFF the FROGFOOT.
  17. Good afternoon, It has been a while since I last posted but wanted to share three videos I have released and edited as part of my DCS series titled XI (Eleven). This series is focused on the F-15 and a fictional, what if scenario involving NATO, Russia, and Georgia. Through out the series I tried to mirror real world squadron exercises and deployments to the region. Federalized units of the United States Air Force Air National Guard are featured because there are not to many (only two to three) frontline regular USAF F-15C units left in active service and large portion of the regular F-15C fleet is based in the Pacific. The first is the Interlude, which I used as a break in the series. This is AI only action and features the KC-135 Strato Tanker The second part 8 titled the Reinforcements And finally part 9 titled the Great Sochi Turkeyshoot I am looking to wrap this series up by the 11th video so look for things may get more intense. Have a few storylines in the works, but debating on whether to wait on Edge to mature. Please watch, comment freely, and most importantly ENJOY! Respectfully, Ironroad
  18. I think you may be on to something. Even the AI has trouble flying and fighting in the F-15. It is like the AI is trying too hard to fight yaw and tries to push into the vertical (even at almost not airspeed). Also noticed the AI will almost always close for straight tail on gun kill (us F-15) or an ir kill (Russian) reguardless of range or weapons carried. Really makes no sense to see the AI try to run down and gun an aircraft when it has a full load of active or semi-active missiles.
  19. Are you asking a question, making a statement, or just thinking out loud? Humm...after years (decades) of playing flight sims (including the original LOMAC) I was not aware that. Ok, but there are at least 10x (not 10000000000x) that I have noticed recently, I will continue to call them as I see them and hopefully they will just be glitches on my end and nothing major that hurts or prohibits anyone else.
  20. Good evening, I have been a long time lurker and previous poster on these forums going back to the Lomac 1.01 days. Been working of series of DCS shorts centered around the F-15 and once I can get past a few bugs introduced will work on and upload part 8. Hope you enjoy!
  21. You may be hearing the actuators for the exhaust/afterburner nozzles (which have a distinct mechanical sound that you can hear at a distance in real life when the aircraft engines spool up).
  22. I have noticed this problem for a while; however, I doubt it will be fixed anytime soon. The F-15 likes to get real tail heavy in turns and the FCS will fight you every (yaw) when you are engaged in high altitude maneuvers. It is like flying planes in the early Operation Flashpoint all over again. The AI has even more trouble trying to handle the plane. If you ever have a chance try doing a force on force scenario with a large flight of F-15s vs any fighter (Mig-15 on up) in the game. The F-15s, regardless of AI skill level gets slaughtered each time. The AI can not control the F-15 unless it is for takeoff and landing. Don't get me started on the gravity bomb that is the AIM-120...
  23. Because the Aim-120, never really worked in this series and was always greatly under modeled. I prefer to carry at least two AIM-7s unless I'm dog fighting in close, then the AIM-9C...errr I mean AIM-120 becomes useful.
  24. Good evening everyone, I was recently creating a mission and noticed that the B-52 can not takeoff successfully for any airfield on the map. The other heavy bombers, transports, and tankers do just fine, but the B-52s always nose dive into the end of the runway. I tired adjusting the takeoff weight via fuel and ordinance, but to no avail. The AI seems to want to nosedive the aircraft and speed up to 200kns after climbing a few hundred feet off the ground. See the trak file here for more information.
