  1. lol... this should really be a sticky. I've been getting really flustered!
  2. Sorry for the necro, but I didn't want to create another thread, especially since I just started one and you were all so nice! I'm having trouble wrapping my head around what I should be doing to get from waypoint to waypoint. I understand the RSBN, and I think I understand the ARC (in theory,) but I don't get how I follow the flight plan. Can someone explain it to me like I'm in second grade? Thanks so much.
  3. These sound like they could be real possibilities. Thanks a lot everyone!
  4. Just to make sure I'm looking at this right... Freq 10 is ATC in Kutaisi, right?
  5. Thanks very much for the reply. Yeah, I've been using the frequencies in the kneeboard. They just don't talk back? I've tried it on fast missions, the campaign, everything. The only time it works is when I'm in the tutorial. It's really bumming me out. I have to know which runway to taxi to at least!
  6. Hey everyone, I just bought this awesome plane a few days ago and I absolutely love it. It's exactly what I want out of a simulator... except for one huge (to me) problem. I follow the checklists and tutorials to a tee, yet I can't manage to get the ATC to talk to me! I have fired up the radio, have changed the frequency to my location, and nothing. I can talk to ground crew to get the power on, (even though they're blacked out,) but I can't get clearance to start my engines, or after I start them, I can't get clearance to taxi/takeoff, etc. It's a real bummer and I know I'm doing something very simple and very wrong. Can anyone help me with this? The simmer in me will not allow myself to take off, or even move from the ramp without clearance. I just can't bring myself to do it! Thanks very much.
  7. Another question: In my profile, when I use the pinkie switch it acts as a toggle. This makes it very confusing to remember which state it's in, and I can imagine it could lead to some potentially catastrophic consequences in the middle of some serious action! Is there a way that I can turn the toggle mode off so I can hold it down instead? I'm sure there is a very easy option that I'm just not seeing. Thanks!
  8. Thanks very much, I got it sorted out this morning. Turns out, I had my trackir z axis mapped to zoom. All I needed to to was swap that out with 'Absolute longitudinal shift' and I was golden. Everything is working perfectly, now all I need to do is learn how to fly this damn thing! Thanks so much for your help!
  9. Really great stuff. I'm not sure what the hell you're talking about half of the time, but I think I'm learning something! Thanks!
  10. I'm pretty sure that's what's already happening. I'll report back when I get home. Thanks, bud.
  11. Thanks very much Strongarm, I'll definitely take a look at that! One problem though, I've been having a problem getting the zoom to work with the slider. It's set up on my Saitek profile, but it does nothing in game. Does anyone have any tips for this?
  12. thanks for the response. this is a pretty daunting task!
  13. As an addendum to this: I am currently using Iron's profile as seen here: http://wiki.hoggit.us/view/Iron%27s_X-52_Profile_for_A-10C Is this a pretty good one? Thanks much.
  14. Hey everyone, Very new to DCS and I broke down and bought the A-10. I'm extremely happy and having fun, but I'm not sure what profiles everyone thinks is 'best.' I have an X-52 and trackir, I've done a number of Google searches and there's so many different variants. I want to make sure that I'm using one that is considered efficient and has everything I need before I start really committing the setup to muscle memory. Is there a consensus on which one is 'best?' Thanks a lot.
  15. So, a bit of an update. Thanks to the help I got from you guys, I mapped out my X52 pretty well, downloaded an absolutely INCREDIBLE profile for my track ir, (thanks cibit and yassey,) and ended up pulling off a pretty successful mission in which I wiped out a few bad guys AND made it back to base with a safe landing!! Woohoo!!! So, I'm left with a rather picky question: no matter what tweaks I try, it seems I'm left with some pretty intrusive "Jaggies," especially right below my hud and around the borders of the cockpit. Now, Im aware that there's some limitations that won't be dealt with till 2.0, but does everyone get these? I'm running a 4770 at 4.5, GTX 780 EVGA, 16 gigs Corsair. I've tried down sampling, that gives me a slight improvement with a pretty big hit to smoothness. At native 1080p, I'm locked at 60 frames, (vsync I assume) and its a smooth as snot, but I get those bummer Jaggies. Anyone have a suggestion? Should I just shut up and remember how awesome flight sims are now and stop sweating the small stuff? I really don't want to get too OCD about minutia like a cliche' FSX dork! Are there nvidia fixes you guys use? Thanks again to all.
  16. I want the Mig.
  17. You guys are fantastic. The links you have provided are excellent and helping a lot. I work a graveyard shift and sit in front of a computer for most of the night so all this reading is fantastic and gets me pumped to go flying again! It's interesting how many of you guys are suggesting a helicopter. I never considered it, but it seems to be almost unanimous. I'll certainly watch for one to go on sale. Thanks again everyone, and if anyone has anymore suggestions, tips, or especially good created missions for me to try out, I'd love that too! Cheers! p.s. @bitmaster I'll certainly remember to give that server a look when I feel I can get in without completely making an ass out of myself. Thanks for the suggestion.
  18. Does anybody fly the su-25t a lot that uses an X-52? Wondering if there's a good template for mapping controls. I've got it kind of hokey right now. Does anybody map their targeting slew to a hat? I'm pretty unclear on the whole thing, such as modifiers and such. Thanks in advance.
  19. Thanks again for all the replies. I ended up getting a pretty nice tracker profile from Gerry Abbot's channel. Coupling that with mapping a button on my hot as to pause and center, and I'm starting to see what's what! Pretty excited about all this. Now I'm just going to add the shaders Joy suggested, and I'm off to the races!
  20. Right on Joy! I'll do just that. Thanks much.
  21. Right on, thanks for the welcome. I think I'm going to stick with the SU-25 for now, and probably hit up the Mig-21 when it goes on sale. The A-10C seems like a little much for me right now, (the start-up and flying look like a lot of fun, but I'm still pretty new to combat.) I've found a couple videos on setting up the trackir for DCS after I posted, thanks very much. Anyway, I'll figure the rest out... that's part of the fun isn't it? Thanks for the replies.
  22. I've done a fair amount of simming in my time, mainly with FSX so I'm fairly comfortable with the idea of complexity and learning to fly a single machine. However, I was wondering what you guys thought was the best road to go down in order to get good with this sim. I have been really enjoying the SU-25T and have gone through the tutorials enough that I'm getting somewhat familiar with its characteristics. What would you recommend I do next to hone my skills with the aircraft? Are there some good user created training missions out there? Are there some I already have? Should I create my own? (I have FC3 as well by the way.) Secondly, I have trackir. I have noticed that it's really super 'floaty' in comparison to the other things I use it for. For instance, the hud always seems to get out of line and I can't seem to keep it in view. Are there proper settings people use for it that I don't know about? I'd appreciate some help here. Third, are their any 'must-have' mods that I should consider downloading? I know 2.0 is somewhere on the horizon, so I might just hold off on this. But if there are some textures that I absolutely must be using, I'd love to know about them. Thanks a lot! I'm having a blast!
