Come on, really! Blue aircraft do. Red can't have them in the first place, so this doesn't really make any sense. On a side note, if I can quickly use google translate, then surely you can, mate. Easier for everyone else. -
4-6 slots will be the standard. I'm leaning towards 6 though. Bigger missions will have 8-10 slots. In some missions the F-1 will be added without removing anything from the Blue roster. However, if I add 6+ slots then I think (not sure yet) it will be on the cost of removing 2-4 F-5 slots to avoid imbalance. But these are just ideas so far. We'll see.

The mission goes online on Saturday, 31.07.2021. The mission kicks off around 1930 zulu. No sign-ups needed. Try and stick with the objective, please. We'll see how it goes and then decide whether to have sign-ups for the next round or not, and lock the server with a password for that matter. -

The second post has been updated. -
Would be great to fix, please.

After receiving quite some pm's over the last 2 weeks, I had to reconsider the issue with the Viggen: Yes, the pylons' bug is quite annoying, but so do many other modules have a bug or more as well. Some bugs we can live with, others are just way too much. Removing any module because of that is never the solution, otherwise I'd end up adding and removing modules constantly. Obviously, rubbish! I've tried restricting the Viggen with a script that causes damage to its engine once a certain speed limit is exceeded, and that added even more work and wasn't justified for the Viggen at all. It was too... restrictive. As many of you know I stepped away from playing DCS for several months, since the beginning of the year. And you have to know that I'm often reacting to your posts, feedback, replies, criticism, etc. and relying on what's written. At some point, players started reporting the Viggen's pylons' bug to me quite often. It even resulted in long discussions amongst users of this very thread, as many of you know. I don't own the Viggen and I don't plan on doing so. And I wasn't flying during that time so I had to react to what was constantly being reported, while not paying attention to other modules' bugs, which is unfortunately a normality in DCS, and frankly, no one ever cared! So it's been rather a journey ever since with the Viggen story, especially because I wasn't flying, so I was never able to evaluate the whole thing from my own perspective. Conclusion: Not restricting the Viggen would obviously upset a lot of Red players. Restricting it, however, upsets Viggen pilots and affects Blue's CAS and strike missions immensely. Therefore, in order to avoid any similar endless discussions in the future, and players reporting each other over exploiting bugs in modules, I decided to not get involved in trying to fix what 3rd parties fail to fix or don't even want to fix. The intention was always to keep things as playable and enjoyable for all (never possible though, so let's say the majority of players), hence the restrictions, the scripts, the kicking, the banning and all of that. I thought I might get somewhere with it and start applying the same to other modules at some point, but it turned out to be a disaster. So, all of you Viggen players who reached out to me, and other players as well, for the love of God just enjoy your modules anyway you like while at least trying to stick with the objectives. And if exploiting a bug can be avoided, then please, do so. That's all. Leave me out of 3rd party issues, please. I tried though... Sometimes pushing too much to get as close as possible to perfection leads to unfortunate results. Well, this one was very unfortunate. Fly safe!

Oh, really?! I thought with only a spec of terrain compared to other maps, everyone would be able to fly on the map. Man, I almost did the same mission (more or less) in Caucasus, but never thought Mariana Islands would give anyone any problems. And by the time I wanted to start working on the mission, Mariana Islands was released so I thought, well, here we go. Darn it, mate! That's unfortunate. So it would be hard to get the numbers for it, I guess, especially during the summer holidays. I'll wait a bit longer, which was my intention anyway to give players the chance for reading the long briefing before the mission goes online. Now I doubt we'll have 20 players for the reasons mentioned above I'll update the second post soon, so players know how many slots and aircraft via type of aircraft are available. -
More of those in a specific mission or a new mission with B-52's?

Wouldn't have thought it could be a problem to be honest. You should see how regular Cold War players maneuver. They pull crazy stunts sometimes even with a damaged aircraft while landing I'll move it away a bit, no problem. -
Server News: Operation Catch Me If You Can: - Instead of 2 x Blue cargo ships, it's now 6. So more ships for Red to destroy.
-
Server News: Operation Prince of Persia: - 24 x Mi-24's added. 4 slots. - Ka-50's reduced in numbers. Instead of 12 at mission's start, it's now 8 x Ka-50's. - The mission being big and demanding will not be part of the daily rotation. - Therefore, and just like operation Battle Over Sukhumi Unleashed, the mission will go online once in a while.

After having multiple pm's with Conker4 back and forth since the ban he received, and after he reached out to me on TS today and we had a conversation for about an hour, I decided to remove the ban and give him another chance, Although I'm still convinced of my position on a few things, but not all. I told Conker4 that I'll have to announce that here, as the whole thing was talked about so publicly from the beginning, so that you guys don't end up issuing reports about him being able to join the server again. Note: No replies needed, please, at least not publicly. I'd rather handle reports about players privately, however, and as mentioned above, this one was exceptional in that regard.

Important Notes: - This is NOT a new server, but rather a mission with exceptional features for the Cold War 1947 - 1991 server. - All aircraft and weapons are limited in numbers. - The scenario of this mission is completely fictive. - Flying solo is NOT appreciated! This is a MULTIPLAYER mission on a public server and not for other purposes. - Use SRS for communicating with other players to get the most out of your teamwork. - The mission features the free map, Mariana Islands. - Cmdr slots excluded, JTAC allowed and only for GCI and observation purposes. All ground units are AI controlled. - Ground units being the target for both coalitions would probably end up being hidden in buildings, if players were to control them. ********************************************************************************************************** The mission goes online once in a while. Dates and times are always announced several days prior to the event. ********************************************************************************************************** Server Name: Cold War 1947 - 1991 Server IP: 193.70.81.86 SRS IP: 193.70.81.86 Note that I use the TeamSpeak 3 channel of the 104th Phoenix server. TeamSpeak 3 IP: ts50.gameservers.com:9132 TeamSpeak 3 password: phoenix ******************************************************************** Operation Allied Assault Situation: The island of Saipan has been under American rule for decades. The islands of Tinian, Rota and Guam however, are subject to Chinese rule, in that same part of the Northern Pacific Ocean where the two vast nations meet in the middle of nowhere. Over the last two weeks Chinese intelligence had been reporting more frequent military activities mainly carried out by US marine forces west of San Jose town, Saipan Island. In addition, and for the first time in years French SA342Mistrals backed by M-2000C's and Swedish AJS37's were also observed conducting low level flight maneuvers over and around the northwestern parts of Saipan Island. It is no secret to the Chinese that the Americans have always been eager to get their hands on the neighbouring islands. However, the fact that US military forces haven't been so conspicuous with military operations, and shown barely any interest in even discussing the Mariana Islands issue, with Chinese diplomats as of late, has led to the Chinese feeling secure in the vicinity. Not this time though... Something's up! Covertly, Russian naval forces operating northeast of the Philippines had been alerted by the Chinese, and asked to swiftly proceed east to perhaps... Saipan! The closest Chinese fleet would need four more days to reinforce their islands should the Americans and their Allies actually invade! The Russians answered the call being closer to the Mariana Islands without hesitation. In the morning hours of the 26th of May 1990, American AAV-7's (Assault Amphibious Vehicles) waded through the calm Pacific waters between Saipan and Tinian Islands, in a sudden and daring manner, attempting to capture and hold Tinian Intl airbase. French SA342Mistrals operating from Saipan Intl airbase are tasked with providing cover for the assault, should Chinese Mi-24P's operating from Tinian Intl airbase attempt to intercept the ground forces. Both islands have air defences consisting of AAA, radar and IR SAM's. Close air support carried out by British AV-8B's operating from the aircraft carrier, Tarawa, becomes available once American F/A-18C's operating from the aircraft carrier, Theodore Roosevelt, succeed in taking out the radar units of the two SA-6 SAM sites, the one Chinese developed HQ-7 SAM site and two SA-15's at Tinian Island. American F-15C's and French M-2000C's operating from Saipan Intl airbase remain grounded as long as Chinese SAM sites at Tinian, are still operational (slots become available once the aforementioned targets are destroyed. Only then CAP is permissible for the Eagles and Mirages). Swedish AJS37's operate from Saipan Intl airbase are primarily tasked with intercepting Russian warships west of Tinian Island, to prevent Ka-50's from any attacking attempts. In addition, and only after that's done, AJS37's can search and destroy other enemy ships, especially the Russian aircraft carrier, Kuznetsov, to sink all Su-33's along with it. Russian Ka-50's operating from two Cruiser Moskva warships, west of Tinian Island, are tasked with attacking ground units at Saipan airbase, until Chinese Su-25T's arrive from Guam to strike hard and crush the invasion. Chinese J-11A's, MiG-29A's and Chengdu J-7's (MiG-21's) are primarily tasked with intercepting Swedish AJS37's, British AV-8B's and American F/A-18C's. Russian Su-33's are the superior fighters of the Red coalition and are the only fighters with access to R-27ER's (no ET's). J-11A's and MiG-29S's have access to R-27R's and no R-27ER's. R-27T's and R-73's are available for all. American F-14A's have access to AIM-54A-Mk47 and AIM-7MH missiles and are tasked with fighter sweep operations across the region. (Watch out for air defences at the islands!) A-10C's become operational once Rota Island is captured, to assist in taking out air defences at the last two airbases in the south at Guam Island. AMRAAM's and AIM-9X's are disabled. NOTE: If a GCI operator is available, make sure you contact him and provide your assistance to wherever help is needed the most. Teamwork is the key so make sure you stay on comms with other players even if a GCI operator is not available. Check out the radio frequencies for comms below. ******************************************************************************************************* Winning Conditions: Red wins by... - destroying the comms tower, all air defences at Saipan Intl airbase (see images) and all AAV-7's. - or, if all (or most) Blue strikers are shot down to the extent it becomes impossible for Blue to win. Blue wins... - if all 4 Red airbases; Tinian Intl, Rota Intl, Andersen AFB and Antonio B. Won Pat Intl are captured. * An airbase is captured once all air defences are destroyed (no transport (CTLD) operations required) ******************************************************************************************************* RED (China and Russia) Objectives: *** IMPORTANT Note! *** All aircraft (helicopters included) are limited in numbers and can only operate from airbases (or aircraft carriers) where slots are available for them. Therefore, study the map carefully and check before you RTB to avoid landing at an airbase with no slots available for your aircraft. However, if a player decides to or has to land for refueling and/or rearming and/or repairing purposes then he can do so. Just don't leave your aircraft there. Always RTB to where slots are available. NOTE: You don't have to shut down your engines to save the aircraft. You only need to park it (not on the runway!) before you leave the slot and it becomes available at that airbase. ******************************************************************************************************* Objectives' Overview: * The enemy is trying to capture all islands by destroying air defences at our airbases! * Attacking and destroying vital structures and all air defences at Saipan Intl airbase (see images) wins us the day! * The more enemy aircraft we destroy the higher the chances of crushing the invasion, should we fail to strike Saipan. ******************************************************************************************************* Su-33's: - Your top priority targets are F-14A's operating from the aircraft carrier, Theodore Roosevelt. Server News: * Operation Battle Over Sukhumi Unleashed: - Added a total of 38 x Mi-24's operating from 3 different airbases with a total of 6 slots. - They become only available if Red captures any of or all 3 airbases as it is the objective to capture 4 airbases for both coalitions (only Kobuleti airbase doesn't feature the Hinds). - The mission being so demanding and very tough on both coalitions to complete will not be part of the daily missions' rotation. - Instead, I will put it online once or twice a month and probably mainly on the weekends as an open event for all players to join -> No registration required. - Therefore, I'll always have to put it online manually right at the time when the server is about to rotate. - The mission lasts for 8 hours unless the objective is completed. - Check out the second post on this thread for a quick briefing, mission number 21. * Note that I might do the same with operation Prince of Persia for the same reasons. Also, Mi-24's will be added. * Operation Search & Destroy will undergo some upgrading regarding the objectives. Also, Mi-24's will be added. * The new mission featuring the Mariana Islands map (I still can't come up with a name for it ) will undergo some testing over the upcoming days. * Upgrading the mission Sneaky Bastards is still on hold.

I wouldn't say it's a big challenge. It mainly affects MiG-15 pilots so GCI operators might want to jump on the 4.95 MHz frequency quickly and let them know of it. Give it time and it will work. It's such a tiny little detail and it can't be overlooked. It's just that I never cared to actually take a look at the options I have in SRS as an admin with so many other things going on. Good to have a helpful community! Thank you and others for the support throughout the years and God bless you all!
-
I've turned it on. I think I'll have to restart the Cold War server for it to apply though and I'd hate to do that (check out FAQ number 8 on the main post of this thread). We'll see it it works tonight, if not I'll just do the bloody restart before the weekend hits.

Thanks a lot! That would save me a lot of work.

I'm glad you're having fun on the server and finding a place for yourself in DCS. Criticism, feedback, ideas, suggestions, etc. are always welcome and quite often they helped me improve things around and I always urge the community to never stop throwing that at me, so no worries there. You made 7 points so here's my response: 1) I understand your point but I owe it to hose who fly regularly on the server who want new missions and challenges every now and then. 2) I have a mission like that and another one is currently being made. Check here. 3) Players always tend to fly low on the server no matter what I do. Operation Springfield was loaded with IR SAM's and still they flew low and complained about being shot in the face so often by air defences. AWACS is bugged, EWR is better. 4) Again, don't get me wrong but I think more about those who fly regularly on the server and they deserve more new missions of more or less different scenarios and areas covering different parts of the featured maps. Can't please everyone, although I understand your concern. 5) Some missions are like that. Again, it's the difference in the details that make missions more different from one another. Not just the scenarios and the objectives. 6) Spotting is tough, that's true. And again, some missions have clouds, others don't at all or less clouds. 7) True, however, having more missions with so much water involved isn't a thing for the community. One of my latest missions, The Tunb Identity, is mostly over the waters and instantly helicopter pilots started complaining about having to fly over nothing by water while getting easily spotted and destroyed by enemy fighters. Besides, it's boring to most of them flying for 15-20 minutes over nothing but water. The mission had 5-10 players at the most and was online 3 times over the weekend nights. Players couldn't stand it, I guess, so now it's out. I have to deal with what the geography of the DCS maps have to offer. I can't just have ships involved if no airbases are nearby where it wont make any sense to have them in the first place if the mission's scenario doesn't support that. I hope I was able to shed some light on your ideas or concerns. I feel like I let you down a bit with my response, it's just that I've been doing this for years and it's been working and even getting better for years. Sometimes some ideas might seem harmless for the user but would mean a radical change for me regarding the server's "principles" so to speak.

Check out FAQ number 8 on the main post so you understand why the EWR wasn't working among other things. The mission runs for 4 hours and he who holds both airbases by the end of the mission wins. The other line is from the first version of the mission and I forgot to take it out. thanks for reporting. Had a night shift yesterday and wasn't able to check out the server for one second.
