Up to now I have always had shadows set to low and cockpit shadows enabled but now I have the Mig-21:D I have started to notice that the lack of cockpit shadows at these settings. So I have set shadows to medium which gives me a much better shadow effect if the cockpit and adds to the realism but my FPS have taken a hit. I assume that the fps is not just due to the cockpit shadows but also the increase quality of the terrain shadows. So is there a way to either reduce the terrain shadows with shadows set to medium or increase the cockpit shadows with it set to low in order to claw back some FPS? Thanks in advance, Jacks

I am playing at 1920x1080 at 50fps at high setting except low shadows and med water. I prefer the eye candy and 50fps seems smooth. I have tried medium settings but it only reduced the vram usage by 2-300Mb.

I too am eagerly awaiting the update but I am concerned that the games vram usage is not going to reduce drastically and I seem to run out of vram within minutes of online play. For me 2Gb of VRAM just isn't enough. Jacks

Thanks for the advice, I hadn't thought of using modifiers . I will set a few of the throttle buttons as modifiers and then use the hat switch. Jacks

When I have around 1500 objects in view my fps drops from 50 to 30 and micro stutters. I would like a new gpu to counter this (currently using a 770 2Gb). Also my gpu seems to run at max VRAM a lot and so may be bottlenecking my system. What is the best way to increase the number of object that can be viewed, gpu clock speed, VRAM size or gpu memory clock speed? Jacks

I am keen to learn to fly and flight the A-10C but so far have put off by all of the HOTAS buttons required to operate it. I have a T-Flight HOTAS. Is anyone else using this for the A-10C and so how do you find it? How have you set your HOTAS to maximise effectiveness? Regards, Jacks

Thanks for all the advice. I will take the plunge once I get paid and my also buy the a mi-8 as a stable mate. I am planning on upgarding to 16Gb RAM and disabling page file and I hope to upgrade my 770 to a 4Gb gpu. Gary

My rig is a i5 3570k @ 4.5GHz, ASUS GTX 770 OC @2050, 8Gb 1600 RAM and 240Gb SSD. I can play the A-10C, F-86 and Huey with decent frame rate (mostly 50fps and down to 30 ish on the ground with lots of aircraft). I have read that the MIG-21 is fps hungry and so I concerned that I will waste my money buying a mig-21 now as it would be unplayable until DCS 1.5 is released. How does the FPS compared to the A10C, F-86 or Huey? Thanks in advance, jacks

I recently did a fresh reinstall of dcs due to issues with server integrity check. After completing the re install, my graphic settings were the same as before as I kept my dcs saved games file. The only settings I had to rest were the nvidia cp settings. I have however noticed that dcs is slightly down on fps, making some servers now unplayable. Can someone recommend some nvidia control panel settings to maximise fps and performance. I have fps capped at 50 at the moment. My setup: I5 3570k @ 4.5GHz Cooler Master 212 Evo ASUS GTX 770 OC 8Gb 1600 HyperX Beast RAM Samsung 850 evo 240Gb SSD ASUS 27" 1080p monitor My DCS settings: All on high except: Water - med shadows -low Also heat blur off Reflections off TSAA off MSAA - 2x Cockpit res - 512 Mirrors off Civ traffic off Preload distance max Tree draw and clutter - low Gary

I have been running DCS world on an old HDD and get stutters when it try's to load distant scenery. I have an SSD but at 64GB it is already full. So I have just bought a new samsung 850 evo 250 GB SSD on which to install dcs but I onset which setup is likely to give me the best performance: 1. Close my old SSD with OS into the new SSD and install DCS. DCS will then be on the same dribble as windows (c:/) 2. Keep my 64Gb SSD as my primary drive with windows installed and use the 250GB SSD as a secondary drive (D:/) (still SATA III) for just games. I will then move the old HDD in a SATA II slot (E:/) and use it to store work and archives files. So what I am asking is is it better to have DCS installed on the same drive as windows or on a separate drive or does it make no difference? I am currently using the c:/ for pagefile also and so does affect where I install DCS. Thanks in advance, Jacks

Q: with similar settings and on the same map, are you getting noticeably better fps and smoother gameplay? Does the game still stutter and dramatically drop fps when effects such as smoke or tracer appear?

Jocks, yes I am using JSGME. The cockpit lighting is now great, my only remark would be that the canopy in a bit too reflective and so we the red cockpit lighting is on, it turns the entire canopy red and makes it difficult to see out. Gary
-
Has anyone using this mod got the adf to work correctly. Mine will not switch to loop and the magnetic compass needle never moves. Gary
-
Looking good. Is there anyway to keep the default canopy with the angle of dive lines.? Also does the ADF still work after activating this mod with JSGME? Is night time issue now resolved? Again thanks for all you hard work. Gary

I am getting stutters when playing online (but not offline) and msi afterburner shows that my cpu core 4 is hitting 100% at the point of stuttering and running at 90%+ the rest of the time. Is this normal? Is my cpu bottle necking my system? Core 1 runs at 10-15% and the remaining two cores run around 5%. My system specs: I5 3570k @ 3.8GHz msi z77a-gd55 Mobo 8GB 1600hz HyperC Beast RAM ASUS GTX 770 2GB OC'd to 1250Hz I am running the game at high settings with shadows and water low, no heat blur, no HDR, MSAA at 2x, no tree shadows, no TSAA, VSync on and preload radius to max. The cores are unparked. What is the most effective way to reduce cpu usage without diminishing gameplay? I have just bought a cooler master hyper 212 ego and so was planning on installing that tomorrow with the hope of overclocking the cpu to around 4.5GHz. Will this help alleviate the problem? Gary

After a week of flying the sabre, I still a bit confused by the radar gunsight. Once unchanged and locked on target, does the gunsight take into account the speed, direction and closing speed of the target aircraft and automatically adjust the sight to take into account lead and drop? Once locked onto a target in a sweeping turning requiring a deflection shot, do I still have to aim ahead for lead (like on the ww2 gunsights) or with the a-4 can I simply place the pipper over the target and fire assuming the sight has already corrected for this? FYI, got some flak off the wife when see looked at my ipad and saw the tab for this thread as it was missing the pit off of cockpit in the thread title! She was concerned about what I was looking at!

Jocko, PSB for some screenshots. The first one is what the cockpit looks like when air starting at night so at default instrument panel brightness. The second one is with all instrument panel light controls turned to max Also I have noticed that with the way that I have installed it (JSGME overwrites the original default cockpit textures with your once selected) the ADF panel does not work correctly. It will no longer turn to loop and the radio compass needle remains fix when your select comp. I have the same issue on the weather cockpit mod. Any ideas?? Gary

Jocko, absolutely, I will post some tonight. Gary

Jocks, roger I tried them last night and can confirm no shimmering!! I created a mod in JSGME that makes it easy to turn on/off the black cockpit and it works really well without the need to overwrite the default textures. One thing I have noticed is that the textures go very bright grey when they are lit at night. Reducing the brightness of the panel corrects the problem. I realise that these are still WIP but they are great additions to the F-86 and I have made the 92 Sqn F-86 with black cockpit has become my default livery for the single player missions. Thanks for a great mod! Gary

Roger, will repairing remove other mods that I have made to other files such as MIPMap mods?
-
I am really looking forward to this mod but concerned that it won't work well on my system. For me the default cockpit has issues where the white lettering shimmers and flickers and it drives me crazy. I have fixed it with the MIPmap mod and so all is well at the moment. I hope this cockpit will not have the same problem and will already come with the extra MIPmaps. Has anyone who had the text shimmering issues with the default textures tried these new textures and can you report back whether the same problem exists with this mod? Gary

Thanks for the fast reply! How do I do a repair??

Apologies for the newbie question but I new to dcs. I have used some texture mods off of this site and installed them by zipping them straight into the destination file and overwriting. I now want to return my texture to default and install a number of texture mods using JFGME so I can find which mod or combo best works for me and can easily disable them before updating. To do this I need to find a copy of the default LandTextures.zip because I have overwritten mine with a modded version. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance, Gary
