  1. I have a a 3570k OC'd at 4.5. Would I see much of a difference with a 4790k also at 4.5? I always thought since DCS doesn't use hyperthreading, as long the clock speeds are the same, performance should be the same regardless of which CPU you are using.
  2. I would recommend approaching low and slow from the 7 o'clock position in the Huey and 5 o'clock position in the Mi-8. This will maximise your visibility and help you maintain a reference point. Maintain this position until you are about to land and passed through the translational lift phase and move slowly sideways and forwards (still facing forward) and land. Avoid pitching the nose to high in the flare so the tail does strike the railings. This technique works for me and once established on a final approach, I turn the NVGs as the ship gives off sufficient light.
  3. Yep, 20 missions! Give a go, you won't be disappointed.
  4. Have you completed the one that comes with the module? I am part way through and enjoying it. Jacks
  5. Are we using the ATAG TS3 channel the Chuck has detailed in his first post?
  6. I prefer Nvidia cards of I'm honest
  7. I am on a similar quest for more performance. I know everyone says DCs 1.5 should bring a performance boost but it may not. I would prefer to get the performance to where I want. It now and if DCS 1.5 does give better performance I can use the gains to turn up the eye candy. For me the biggest performance gains were overclocking my i5 from 3.4 GHz to 4.5GHz. This gave me a very noticeable boost! I used the same cooler as you to achieve this overclock. After the overclock I noticed the only stutters (other during very busy scenes) was when the scenery was loading in the background so I bought an SSD and no more stutters. Now I run my system at 50FPS which can drop 30 FPS when on the ground with other aircraft nearby or when there are lot of explosions and tracer fire. I have noticed that I get more stutters when all my VRAM is used (which happens a lot online) so my next purchase is a GTX 970 with 3.5GB VRAM. I have heard that Windows 10 is giving some people a boost in FPS (about 10%extra). There are some texture mods that increase performance by tweaking the high.lua and some tweaks that you can do to the graphics.cfg and options.cfg files that can boost FPS. The other way to improve FPS is to play around with your in game graphics options and graphics card control panel to find the combination that works best for your system.
  8. I too have never hosted a game online and so not too sure how to. I am GMT +1 and can only get online once I have put my son to bed so 2100hrs onwards. That'll be 2300 your time, is that too late?
  9. Sounds like a plan. I will be free from 2100hrs UK time.
  10. What time zone do you live in?
  11. If you want to host a private server tonight, I could join and test it.
  12. Body Farm, have you got it to work in multiplayer?
  13. Great work guys and very professional! Will the gazelle be available for pre-purchase? Will it be in Alpha or Beta? Do you much work left to do? This is definitely the module I am looking forward to the most in 2015. Jacks
  14. Using lights will affect the FPS of all surrounding players. I think the lighting discipline measures are as much about maximising FPS as they are about counter surveillance control measures (CSCM). Could be worth checking with Chuck.
  15. Are there any JTAC spots and if so can they deploy illume?
  16. HiJack, thanks for the warning. I was about to upgrade to Windows 10 as I have heard of people getting a 10% FPS increase in DCS but I am using a Samsung evo ssd. I will check the drivers before upgrading. Jacks
  17. Was this issue every resolved. I'm have similar problem that when MAP is above about 40", I cannot hear any engine noise at all and the remainder if the flight is silent. Sometimes I hear the engine if Imadvance the throttle to full power. I have had this problem since installing DCS and a fresh install did not resolve the problem. It would be nice to hear the engine during dogfights rather than having to constantly check the instruments. Jacks
  18. What if your target is moving at speed right to left or vice versa across your sight (deflection shot), surely you still need to place the pipper ahead of the target, giving it lead, in order to score a hit. Are there any rules of thumb as to how far ahead you need to aim?
  19. I would like to change my profile name from 4535jacks to Jacks. How do I go about getting this changed? Jacks
  20. Chuck, sign me up for a UH-1 spot please. I don't mind in what role, slick, MEDEVAC or gunship. If you have too many Uh-1H pilots and not enough Mi-8 pilots then feel free to sign up for some hip flying. Jacks
  21. It would be great to see a Sea Stallion from Belsimtek as they are the masters of DCS helicopters.
  22. Thanks chuck, will check it out. Does DCS model any IR lighting or IR/glint tape on aircraft?
  23. Can anyone recommend a good NVG mid for the Huey?
  24. Thanks for the replies, I have looked at the 229th but it seems to me that they are more U.S based and so there events would likely take place at unsociable hours in the UK. My preference would be a squadron without a focus on a particularly airframe as I like to fly several and with some interesting aircraft on the horizon in would be nice to fly a good variety within the construct of an organisation. I wiill look into 229th and TAW some more. Jacks
