I noticed that Gaming 3 and Gaming 5 systems from Gigabyte come with onboard graphics chips the run at pretty high resolutions. System specs for DCS works recommends a video card. Is there a reason why you cannot use the onboard video on the motherboard? I would like something to tide me over until the new Nvidia cards come out. Thanks, Blain

Thanks, Guys! Good stuff. I don't plan on over clocking if I don't have to. I would still have to sink some money into a system for the i7 2600 - motherboard and dram. I'd only be saving the cost of the cpu. It probably doesn't make sense to sink money into an older format.

I was considering building a system with a 4690K given a system with an i7 2600. It has a micro ATX motherboard. I thought I would save $200 and try to build a system with the 2600. I noticed that the benchmark for the 2600 is higher than the 4690k. https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-2600+%40+3.40GHz I want to get a GTX970 video card and started looking for a new motherboards. There were not that many available at Amazon. I don't know if the benchmarks I found translates to DCS, but I assume it at least will not be slower than the i5. I am wondering if it is even worth it to try or build a system around an older CPU. Thanks, Blain

Thanks for the information! I took a look at Oculus Rift. It looks interesting. So I assume since it cannot take advantage of SLI in DCS that it runs off of one card. Correct me if I am wrong, but if I did get two GTX970s it would be mainly to run multiple monitors at this point. 3 or more? I am not sure if it would be worth it to have that many. Regarding other hardware the might be good for DCS. Besides a HOTAS system which I already have, it seems Track IR is must. What about voice recognition? I used game commander in the past. Is there something that is better? Thanks again!

Thanks for providing you settings. I'd like to option of doing SLI. Likely would not go in that direction, though.

Thanks to everyone for their advice!

Thanks! I wasn't sure if I should get a GTX970 or R9 390. I'll make to sure get an SLI compatible Mobo.

I was hoping to run DCS World on my old rig but encountered too many issues so I am planning to upgrade. I'd like to take advantage of the visual improvements in DCS World 2.0 but I have a self imposed budget. I have tried to do some research on this forum as well as other sites but I need confirmation and/or advice regarding some of the components. CPU - Core i5 4690. Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3. The main features that I am looking for are four memory slots and the ability to do SLI or Crossfire. Memory: 8GB Kingston Hyper Fury DDR3 1866 MHz. My understanding is that 8GB should be enough. Video Card: ? I'd like to turn on a lot of the graphic features in the game. But I assume that the video card I choose will dependent on the monitor. I will be using a single Dell E2211H, running a 1920x1080. Will a GTX970 or an R9 290 provide the performance I need? Thanks!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Until I decide to do SLI I wonder if I should go with a budget PS - 450W. Then later upgrade. Blain

It's been a while since I have built a gaming rig. A lot has changed over the last fifteen years. I will like get going with a core i5 process. I'm not sure about the motherboard. I'm thinking about a the gigabyte Z97 gaming 5. I don't plan to OC. I want the option of SLI. At this stage I'm trying to research cases and power supplies. I am looking at the GeForce GTX 960. It uses an 8 pin PCI E cable so what so what should I look at with regard to the PS? Is 450 ok if I only run one video card? I'd like to keep cost down by purchasing a case with PS. Will there be an incompatibility issue with the video card, or can I purchase some type of cable adapter? Thanks, Blain

Thanks for the advice. I was going to do a fresh install as the last resort. If that doesn't work I will contact ED. support.

I tried training and the same thing happened. I did press F1 and got to the external view of an F-15C. I did not enter the cockpit view. Arghhhh!
-
It's there along with the serial number if I click on the box.
-
I downloaded DCS off of the ED site. I did the same with the F-15C module. I verified the serial number in the manage modules section. I can fly the SU-25T. But once I click on fly on an F-15C instant mission it goes to the map. I can't figure this out. My system isn't the best in the word. I do believe I meet the minimum specs. I have 8 GB of RAM, 512 MB vid card, and a Core 2 E8400 processor. I'm stumped.

Thanks! I purchased off of the ED site. I did input the serial number, but will check that.

I recently Purchased F-15C foe DCS World. I am able to fly the Su-25T, but not the Eagle. I click on instant action. It brings me to the briefing. I click on fly now. It brings me to the map. Where do I go from there? I thought the fly button would bring me into the cockpit. Am I missing something?

After an over 12 year layoff I am getting back into flight sims. A lot has changed during that time. I purchased a TM Warthog and have been trying to figure it out. The last HOTAS I had way the TM f-22. I configured a script for a game and then it loaded it into the stick and kept it there until I needed to load another one for another game. That was easy. I'd like go get flying asap and would like to use the Target GUI to configure my stick and throttle. I programmed the fly now option for the Su-25T in DCS World and was able to get it to work. It ran the script and then launched the game. I was wondering if someone could confirm if I can run a script and then launch a game manually. I used one of the stock configs - Falcon AF - then ran the script. The Target window running the script remained open. I assume the config doesn't download to the stick and throttle anymore, that the config runs in the background during the game. Also, it appears that I need to configure the HOTAS in Falcon AF/BMW. I do not have to do this in DCS World. Is that correct? Thanks, Blain

thanks for the clarification! But F-15C module in DCS World says beta. Are any bugs or anything else that distinguishes it from FC3? Reading some of the other threads, I guess I have the answer to my question. But I'm curious as to why they still call it a beta, especially since it doesn't seem that they intend to release a "final" version." Or am I wrong in my summation. Thanks!

Well I missed out on the sale on this site and Steam. I noticed FC3 is $39.99 and F-15C Beta for DCS World is $9.99. How different is the game play and quality of the sim in the Beta. Isn't basically the same? I'd like not have to pay $40 if I don't have to.

2015 DCS Summer Sale - Steam Summer Sale 6/11/15

I tried to order FC3, but it says I need to be an owner of DCS world. I installed it. But I thought it was free. Confused.... -
Thanks! The RAM upgrade is a must. But what's the most bang for my buck? Isn't the video card usually the bottle neck more than the processor? Thanks, Blain

Hi, I am getting back into flight sims after a long hiatus. I'd like to start off with FC3. I need to upgrade my computer, but I am on a budget as I recently purchased a Thrustmaster Warthog stick and throttle. I'd like to run the game with the graphic turned up with decent frame rates. I don't know if that is possible with what I have... System: Dell Optiplex 960 Processor: Core 2 Duo 3.0 E8400 RAM: 4 GB - does not meet minimum system requirements. Video Card: ATI Radeon 4670 OS: Windows 7 64 bit. I would not to have to upgrade the processor and motherboard. I thought I would do the following: 1. Upgrade RAM to 8 GB. 2. Upgrade video card to an ASUS GTX750i. My system has a PCI Express x16 connection. Is that compatible? Would that be adequate, or would I need to upgrade the processor and motherboard? Thanks, Blain

Thank you! I have been out of the sims for a long time. I have touched anything since Falcon 4.0 so your suggestions are appreciated.

I am getting back into flight sims. I am interested in flying the F-15C. So do I need to purchase FC3? Or can I just download DCS world for free and purchase the F-15C beta for DCS world $9.99? Or do you added value for purchasing FC3 for $39.99? Thanks, Blain
