  1. I have a TM HOTAS set up with TFRP rudders. I have a dead zone on both the stick and the rudders. I have also calibrated all controllers. I am flying the F-15C and flying the preloaded missions that comes with the module. Is this an issue of a crosswind? I am thinking its not because it begins early in the roll on take off. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
  2. SinussoidDelta, Thanks for the book suggestion. I purchased it last night and began reading it. Very good so far.
  3. Thanks for the advice and the link. I purchased Robert Shaw's book when it was published - before the internet and before flight sim. To be honest I was never able to get through the book. It was a little too technical and I didn't have access to supplementary information we have today. I mistakenly thought of air combat like an air show, where pilots employed certain maneuvers in certain situations. I think Pete Bonnani warned against that in his video that he did for Spectrum Holobyte. Now I know it is more simpler than that. I was thinking that I would take a crack at it again.
  4. Is there a preferred way to use your AI wingmen? First the formation: I have ordered them to pincer right. It does nothing. They reply pincer right but don't seem to shoot anyone down. I haven't had much luck with line abreast either. I haven't tried trail. If I put them in trail they could handle the leakers if they were not so stupid. I am using VIACOM 2.0 so I don't know if the issue is technical or a workflow issue. Formations generally work. Radar on and music on also. But can someone tell me the difference between - engage bandits and engage? I am thinking "engage bandits" is engage my bandit and "engage" is more of a weapons free.
  5. Thanks for the advice. Prior to the merge I have tried to increase my airspeed and altitude - keeping in mind not to bleed off too much speed once the bandit blows by me. If I have speed I usually try and trade it for attitude. Once get a bandit in a good position I try to stay in lag pursuit and then when I am in a good position I try to bring the nose over in order to fire guns or sidewinders. There are occasions when get distracted and I bleed off too much energy and get below 200 knots. I have also found myself in a flat spin. I need to manage those situations better. I am also trying to figure out how much afterburner to use. I believe I only reached bingo fuel once. I would assume fuel usage is more forging on a range vs being in Indian territory. So far I have used it when I have needed it - trying to maintain at least 400 knots. If anyone has any other thought on the matter I'd like to hear what other do.
  6. I started playing with the "create a mission." I set the difficulty level to easy with the amount of aircraft to medium. I usually fly with a flight of four along with a flight or F-16s or Hornets. I typically offset to the left and do not fire my AMRAAMs until the bandits are about 10 nm base on limited previous success with longer shots. I am lucky if I get a 50% hit rate. I blow past the first wave and start going after the second wave, but often I get shot down by the fighters that just went by me. I was hoping to avoid presenting my six to the second wave but got shot down just the same. What's the correct tactics in this situation? What makes it difficult is that the AI wingmen have trouble following orders. I'll try and turn with the first wave the next time I fly. Or maybe I should stagger my flight in back of the AI F-16s/Hornets?
  7. I didn't know that about the flight model of the AI F-5. I suspected it because they move around like UFOs. I assume the AI Migs and Sukhois are similar. I would have thought that the AI adversary aircraft would have become more realistic over the years. I went back and watched the Art of the Kill with Pete Bonnani so that helped. Your tips regarding energy management also helped. I am find that I am using the burner a lot and got a bingo fuel only once. But fighting on a range close to base is a lot more forgiving on fuel management than doing that in hostile territory. So I would think that using a lot of burner during an engagement is not very realistic. But I would think a long drawn out dogfight is also unrealistic. If the bandit is not killed pretty quickly then I would assume that the blue air would just bug out.
  8. I am new to DCS F-15C. I am coming from Falcon BMS. Flying a muti role fighter I rarely do BFM, but when I do I am able to bring the nose around a lot quicker - which makes sense since the Viper is a lighter and more maneuverable fighter. I too am having issues trying to employ the F-15C in a dogfight. I recently started flying the guns mission against F-5E. I usually take an offset and then put the jet in burner trying to gain altitude and speed. It seems one F-5E is in trail so I usually wait and try to time my turn to get behind the trailer. Getting into a turning fight hasn't been too successful against the F-5E which makes sense since it is a smaller and more nimble fighter in a dogfight. I have tried to employ my fighter in a vertical fight to use the Eagle's higher thrust and weight but there doesn't appear to be an advantage against the F-5E. I also find my self employing the afterburner a lot. How to you keep your energy up while not allowing a smaller jet get the turning advantage?
  9. I think I may have figured it out. I usually just calibrate the HOTAS using TM's calibration tool. I decided to calibrate using the windows tool and I think that was the culprit. I now can adjust engine RPM between the idle detent and the afterburner detent. Thanks Vladinsky and PiedDroit for your suggestion!
  10. Thanks! So if the black box with red in the center the location of your afterburner detent?
  11. I am playing F-15C in DCS World 2.0. Regarding your first question. FYI - I have installed the TM afterburner detent part so I need to lift the throttle physically over the hump in order to enable the afterburner. When the throttle is physically between idle detent and the afterburner detent - and I push toward the afterburner detent it has no affect on the engine RPM. Only when lift it over the detent does engine RPM start to increase. The thought that there was something wrong with the throttle did cross my mind. I will attempt to adjust the curve again. If I move the throttle while tuning the axis for the throttle is there anything that will indicate the location of the detent? Thanks, Blain
  12. I've tried a number of things in game - adjusting saturation and implementing curvature. I also check slider on and off. It seems idle is at military power (68-74% -depending on settings). Nothing happens between the idle detent and military power (start of the afterburner detent) - no change in RPM. I am only able to move between idle and afterburner passed the afterburner detent. I have calibrated my throttle using TM's calibration tool. Is this an issue outside of the game - i.e. windows? Anyone have suggestions?
  13. I created a detent in the throttle. But I can't seem to get the engines to military power at the detent stop. JOY_RZ is set as left throttle JOY_Z is set as the right throttle I tried to adjust the curvature - using this as a starting point. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=122496&highlight=afterburner+detent The best I could get was 76% power at the detent. In Falcon BMS you can set the detent within game, but there doesn't seem to be a similar option in DCS. Do I need to axis tune both the right and left throttle or just the left? Thanks!
  14. I have been testing VAICOM 2.0 and VA. I was wondering if you can use VA to enable views - chase, weapon to target, target to your jet, etc? I assume I would need to set up a hotkey in the VA and then use hotkey to bind it to a button on my HOTAS. Thanks, Blain
  15. FeistyLemur, Thanks for the tip on the hotkey in VA. After you mentioned it, I remembered the location where I previously programmed keystrokes for the hot key to enable VA. Hopefully I can find a profile and not have to create one. Thanks again, Blain
  16. Thanks to help I received from this forum I have been creating an in game profile for my TM Warthog HOTAS. It has been much easier than scripting in TARGET. But now I have to create a hotkey to enable Voice Attack. I have searched this site but have so far been unable to find any information regarding this issue. I closest topics I have found have been related to the creation of hotkeys for TrackIR. I am looking for something that lays out the process step by step. I'd like to be to press a button on the throttle corresponding the key on the keyboard in order to enable Voice Attack. Any ideas? Thanks, Blain
  17. I had my TM Warthog in the box for a year before I built a new computer. I was new to scripting and could not figure out why the S4 button did not work in the shifted state. It seemed to cause issues with the sim whenever I enabled it. I eventually tried the event tester and noticed that S4 did not turn off like the other buttons. TM eventually sent me a new button. It finally works. FYI - there are tabs on the side of the button that you need to depress in order to remove it by pushing it out. Good luck!
  18. I was able to figure that out. But I was wondering about creating layers within the game. I see fields for modifiers but not for different states - shifted and unshifted. Not to mention how to designation a button as the button to beused to shift and unshift. I would appreciate any ideas. Thanks!
  19. I didn't know you could create shifted layers within the game. How do do that? Especially the designation of the button used to shift layers. I usually use the S3 button. With this sim if i could just created shifted layers that should be enough. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Thanks HSB! I found this thread which was helpful. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1323151&postcount=2 In his profile the axes were defined in the script. If I go this route, I assume I do not need to define the axes in game. Is that correct?
  21. Hi, I am new to DCS. Until now I have mainly played Falcon BMS and configured my Thrustmaster Warthog using TM' script editor and by modifying an existing .key file. It is my understanding that one option is to bind a key stroke to a button in the game. If I want to use layers - I, O, or D, M, U I will need to create a script. I will still need to define the axes for Stick, Throttle, and Rudders in the game. Is that correct? There does not seem to be too many TM Warthog profiles out there. Does anyone know of one that uses one for the F-15C? Thanks, Blain
  22. Thank you all for the suggestions and information! I am not that interested in flying the Russian jets so A-10C would probably be the best option.
  23. I purchased F-15C for DCS a year ago, but haven't been able to play it because I needed to upgrade my graphics card. Now that I have one on its way I was going to take advantage of the sale and buy other modules and the Nevada Map. I was mainly interested in the A-10 Warthog. I noticed two modules for the A-10 for sale - one called DCS: A-10C Warthog ($19.99) and the other A-10A Warthog for DCS World ($5.99). Can both be used with the Nevada Map? Also, what additional features does the A-10C version have? Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!
  24. I am trying to prepare for Black Friday at Amazon.com. Is there a large difference between GTX 1060 manufacturers? Thanks, Blain
  25. I recently invested in a new system TM Warthog and Trackir. I didn't want to spend $250 for rudder pedals, which I would use less than HOTAS and TrackIr. I previously purchased CH pro pedals which I returned because I could not figure how to get them to work in Falcon BMS. I initially was not impressed with the initial reviews for the TFRP. But there were few choices on the low end. I decided to get them when I saw some "used" ones offered on Amazon Warehouse Deals for $76. The pedals are too narrow, but I can live with it. The movement is better than CH. So far it has done what I needed it to do and you can't go wrong with paying $76 It depends on your budget an what you are looking for.
