Thanks for the reply, it's good to know that it may be necessary in that situation. I have a TM Warthog HOTAS that I hoped to leave at defaults, I do have one unassigned slider that looks like the best option right now, but I need to take my eyes off the screen for a second or two while relocating, and it means taking my hand off the throttle. Using the keyboard means taking my eyes off the screen for a few seconds and taking my hand off the throttle, which might be ok while lining up a landing or something similar, but I figured I couldn't do that while under fire. It's questionable whether I'm physically able to use pedals, so I'm iffy on spending the money in case it's a waste. Reading that paragraph back, it seems like I've put a lot of emphasis on keeping my eyes on the screen and being able to adjust throttle and yaw at the same time. Is that important, or could I get away with looking away from the screen for a little while and adjusting throttle and rudder as an either/or during fights?

Thanks for the response, much obliged, and glad to know it seems like a manageable issue. Do you think it would make it tougher to fight?
-
How much tougher would it be to pilot the effectively without rudder controls, on a scale of 1 - 10? How much tougher would it make other airframes? I don't have any good rudder control options available, so I'm trying to work out how much tougher that will make DCS World. I'll be grateful for any input you can offer.

Doing the ramp start and navigation mission for the Su-25T, I have followed the director circle closely, yet at some point the distance to the waypoint starts increasing instead of decreasing. I repeatedly tried turning around and picking up the director circle again when the distance is once again counting down, suggesting I am once again approaching the waypoint, but inevitably the problem recurs. This is a problem I had in some of the Su-27 training, but this is the first time I've had it in the Su-25T. Can anyone shed any light on what's happening and why? Is there a way to avoid the problem?

What sort of 1st pass accuracy do you expect from yourselves with unguided rockets, internal cannon and gunpods? Is the standard closest to 'first time every time', 75% or 50%? Any ideas what the real-life expectation is/was?
-
That's exactly it, thank you so much!

Trim is neutral, autopilot isn't engaged

In the 11th Su-25T training mission 'Shkval sensor with Kh-29T and KAB-500Kr', when the lesson is unpaused the jet starts rolling hard right and continues until the lesson ends. I'm able to compensate (by pushing the stick hard left as often as possible) well enough to launch the Kh-29T and take out the first target, but the movement is too great to lock the second target. Is this a known bug? Is there a known workaround? The roll mentioned above does not happen anywhere other than in this particular training mission.

Thanks to both of you. Awesome that this community has people such as yourselves who are both knowledgeable and willing to help.

Do graphics in the training and campaign improve as the assets in the broader game improve, or do they have to be improved specifically? Just trying to figure out if they screenshots in the store are representative of the way terrain and other vehicles look now...

Oh ok, now I understand, thanks for clarifying that.

I got the email announcing 60% bonus deals on modules participating in the bonus program, but when I go to the checkout stage where I can apply my bonus, it only calculates from full price (ie I'm trying to buy the Blackshark module, checkout shows full price 39.99. When I apply my existing bonus of $22, it shows 17.99 outstanding. Help would be appreciated please. I tried the transaction several times since just after the email came through but it always follows the process above. I hope I'm not making a mistake and bugging you over nothing.

The idea of landing according to the AoA on approach is intriguing, I have been adjusting pitch to control speed and glancing at the AoA gauge, but a stall would be a bigger problem than a little extra speed, and maintaining some AoA means I'll be losing some speed anyway. When I know I'm cutting it fine on AoA I will try using that as my main reference. Thanks :)
-
Thanks, I hadn't considered that the pitch ladder in the hud was not relative to airflow. I will make sure to check the AoA gauge as well when I'm flying more than 5 degrees above or below level. I didn't realize that I could bring up the AoA at the bottom of the screen, thanks for that too

Absolutely, and google is always my first port of call, and if I don't find anything useful there I search this site before posting a question. My initial question was what the warning tone I kept hearing in this particular tutorial was likely to be, so I did google the tute to see if others had posted about the problem I was having, and I posted the question only when I didn't find anything relevant. I am very grateful that Ironhand went on to explain the likely cause of the warning after suggesting what it was likely to be, and I expect that was because my original post had demonstrated that I had misunderstood what a stall actually was. Ironhand's extra information allowed me to return to google with a clearer idea of what I needed to learn.

I've had a couple of issues with the tutorial for Su-25T unguided rockets. The first problem is interpreting the voice-over instruction "as you pass through the top gate, roll the aircraft inverted and pull your nose down to the target". I know 'inverted' usually means 'upside down', but I tried rolling 180 degrees to upside down several times, and besides disorienting me and making the screen red out, I wasn't able to hit the target at all. I tried rolling 90 degrees and that seemed to work better. Does the instruction mean roll just 90 degrees, or all the way over? The bigger issue is that I'm not able to correctly identify the target - to be clear, the problem is not that I can't hit what I aim at, but that I'm not sure where to aim. Hitting the ground directly below the red smoke doesn't do it, and I usually can't see the trucks until I'm in such a deep dive that I crash. Can anyone suggest a way to ID the targets sooner? If I am ultimately not able to consistently complete this lesson, how much of a handicap would it be in the rest of the game if I were unable to use rockets effectively? For any of you who have real-world experience, would you consider a pilot incomplete if he couldn't deliver rockets well?
-
Thanks for explaining in those terms. I come in with no knowledge on these subjects, and I had mistakenly thought all of these were about getting clean air to the engines. This is what happens when a pleb like myself sees words like "vector" It would be great if you did produce that resource in this plane. It would be a great way to show prospective new players who are using this free plane that there is a strong DCS community invested in helping people learn.

Thanks, I'm still not consistently managing my speed well in this lesson. so this is very helpful. I see that you stay between +-10 and allow the director circle to come to you, I guess that's what you mean by not chasing it? I go up to +-20, which might explain why I get stall warnings. It's much easier to learn from experience having an example.
-
Thanks, I'll do exactly that :)
-
Thanks. I think I initially dismissed that because it was a different variant, but in hindsight that would make more sense than the general FC3 forum :)
-
Thanks, that is great advice. I don't have any knowledge of flight or the physics at play, so it's great to get guidance like this. I will take care to be patient with this bird - since my goal is the A-10C it is probably best to get used to low-speed flight lol.
-
That was the information I was missing, I hadn't realized that I need to throttle up before raising the nose, but I probably should have. Thank you so much! I think I have this figured out now so I won't upload the track, but you've answered the biggest question I've had in this game so far, thanks again :)
-
Low 300s and no flaps sounds entirely possible, I was sticking to the route air speed but I do remember thinking it was awfully low. Thanks for telling me how to access the track too. As soon as I'm back at my machine I'll upload it, and being able to watch these again would be a great learning tool for me too.

Thanks, no idea how I missed that gauge. That means I must be mistaken about being wings level, yeah?
