Weird changes in Spit behaviour - DCS 2.1 Normandy
JokerMan replied to imacken's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Who, you? .. "controlled test with evidence stuff" .... pssssst .... oh yea, you do a lot of that on your youtube channel  -
I don't agree that it's equally difficult for the 109 to say on the six of a turning Spitfire ... at least early on ...... Opening line.... "on the six" for me is not necessarily just the 109s firing position. For me, it is the 'line up and getting into position to pull the trigger" also. Like I can see his cowling range. I have witnessed (and sometimes been the spit pilot) where a 109K can quite reliably stay 'on the six' of a Spit IX in a turn for quite some time ... "feck, he's still there" scenario. I am on the limit of blackout but keeping my speed as best I can etc and shaking the 190 is not all that easy. The Spit is be able to out turn (assuming like for like entry into the turning fight here in terms of speed, attitude etc) and stay relatively safe inside the 109s guns for quite some time but the spitfire is only one mistake away from trouble ... as opposed to easily being able to out manoeuvre the 109 and reset to the match up. Your mileage may vary S!

Weird changes in Spit behaviour - DCS 2.1 Normandy
JokerMan replied to imacken's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
LOL Yo-Yo ... and well posted. Nice to see the development in the Spitfire of the engine management side. These engines were sensitive and driving them full bore was never something reportedly possible for very long. As for Stall characteristics, I've not tried / experienced one since myself. Will be interested to test this feedback for myself. Blackout is a characteristic I enjoy having but it scares the hell out of me also so I am happy to know it is there yet I don't think I'll appreciate it one when it hits. What I've been trying to do (with lower success last evening incidentally compared to previously) is ease on the stick as my view closes in and ride the transition. I did have a 109 unable to get guns on me last night through multiple turns and he was a good pilot enough to be able to stay with me as I turned. (I am not very good but I can now turn well) I was focusing on riding the blackout to the limit whilst keeping altitude and talking in my wingman. I could do this, but if I push the stick forward, I seem to get a serious blackout ....subjectively speaking, it seems still a little to much .... I dunno. -
I don't know tbh but for a MP server, if it is indeed possible, it's not a server mission I would choose to play on ...... It is absolutely not the right action to consider.... I get where the idea comes from but it's flawed. A moment to think about the fall out is enough to draw a line under this. Regarding the OP .... My answer is to wing up with a wingman to try an even out the situation. S!

Spitfire ground handling updated in 2.1?
JokerMan replied to Goblin's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
In the last 1.5 patch update, I was and remain convinced the ground handling of the Spitfire changed for the better. In 2.1 now, I think I feel this improvement carried over .... not sure that there has been incremental improvement added directly in 2.1 though! It's very subjective and difficult to say for sure. Get too twitchy on the power and it'll ground loop still on you like all tail draggers will but stay nice and gentle and you're golden. Landing/taking off on grass is also something I am seeing more and more of now with folks reporting better experiences (maybe due to the additional induced ground damping from the grass.) Of course, with more seat time, there is a measure of getting more used to it also at play here. -
Good points here ..... I am quite encouraged by the map's potential and once it matures, I'm sure I'll spend lots of time on it. I would add a few notes ..... (all in the understanding this is still Open Alpha) (aside - Does Open Alpha mature to Beta before reaching full release ... perhaps at unification?) 1) The patchwork field, the trees, the irregular nature of the how the ground presents and the various types of fields etc all are fantastic. 2) France looks more mature than England however as the landscape on the southern coast of England shows some obvious copy and paste (reference IoW and look to the coastal mainland). There are no houses there either from what I could see so it must be early days for this late additional to the Normandy map area. Hope this get's the love in the fullness of time. 3) Are the existing airfields hard-coded or can they be changed (removed or added to) via the Mission Editor? I could not see how to remove them but my ME skills are still quite low. Someone mentioned about there being lots of buildings on the fwd bases and I wondered about removing some in ME and failed. 4) Weather is particularly interesting and it seems clearly at another level from 1.5. I will be hoping to enjoy variation changes in weather between my field and my patrol so looking forward to this feature set's maturity.

I note your Full Screen not ticked ..... Question: Do you get better frames in Windowed Vs Full Screen? Cheers!

The video in the OP from 5m30sec shows an effect apparently happening only around the nose .... I get it .... that there is a case of flying through wisps of cloud and perhaps this is the effect ED are going after .. I dunno. What happened in this video is plain weird weird though. It's a pretty cool idea however and whilst there are issues with it obviously, having weather systems such as this is something we'll all really really enjoy. Looking forward to the improvements and tuning updates to weather. I too noticed the 'passing' sheets of rain by the way and loved it ... very realistic ... for a burst shower in wind that it! \ It's going to get old quick though if that is what raining in DCS is like all the time though !

I'll add a note of thank you also .... ED are building and moving the project along and the potential is there. So thank you ED and given the payed forward trust the community has placed with you, here's to you knocking it out of the park. EA is great instalment. It has a lot of potential but of course, it's not complete yet is it. As long as the updates keep coming, as a community, we can't really ask for more.

Voting up this OP also ..... Definitely something I would Value in my Virtual Sqn. and it has been talked about a length during out recent Sqn. flight night also.

@QuiGon, @BIGNEWY Thanks for the fast replied. This puts my mind at ease. A few of us on Storm of War forums are having our own side discussions based on this forums information. I am looking forward to the advantages of DCS-W 2. One other clarification if I may ... Q. Will DCS-W 1 live on in parallel to DCS-W 2? thanks again Jack

Great to hear the progress and updates to the DCS-W strategy ...... looking forward to the day when it all gets unified (if that is the correct term) Can I continue to fly the Spit and Viggen on DCS-W 1.5 branch or must I update to DCS-W 2.0 branch? I still need to keep my 1.5 Branch for the other modules anyway right? Thanks for the clarification ... Jack

I would absolutely second this OP request. The up close aspect of WW2 warbird dog fighting especially on a limited 2D monitor makes having to zoom in and out very important and necessary However, the fisheye effect is almost as disconcerting as the not having any change of view (zoom) at all.

Solved my floating on landing problem.

Good information. Thank you. -
Also, keeping 'er at the +8lb boost is plenty and better for simulated mechanical longevity

Fantastic ..... teasing and absolutely evidence to answer the (I consider) reasonable question I have about WW2 ..... that is, how does ED & Partners with the DCS WW2 project not only pull together the hard resources like Planes and features, airports and scenery maps, but also the soft resources like atmosphere, scenery fidelity, sense and feel .... a believable WW2 environment. I mean no disrespect to ED or Partners here by the way with my question and the above example Racoon goes along way to answering it. I ought look into requirements regarding 3rd party map creation credentials .... though I'll be up front and state it's an area not intermediately my forte! thanks all S!

The discussion only proves the interest and enthusiasm that exists. As long as the fact that there is a degree of compromise that will always exist when modelling RL into a computer simulation, the discussions cannot go too far wrong. There is so much knowledge and all the details that come out in these threads are entertainment and learning all wrapped up in one! And when it's a dogfight with that 190 on your six, I hope that the whole (experience) will 'out sum' the parts (experiences). I mean the individual characteristics of the engine sound in one state of operation, (cruise, climb power, idle etc), if modelled as best as can be, will more than meet the requirement of the over all environment and suffice as BIGNEWY says, "makes me feel like I am not sat in my man cave it is all good". Coming from a Storm of War CLoD server flying experience here just to explain the background of my opinion here if that's OK to note. S!

It's this kind of of attention that sets ED, Partners and the DCS product apart and builds it's potential to serve the sector of the community that really takes FS to the max. S!

Map tool release is very enticing information ....... is this actually on the cards? I know that Normandy is the map plan .... and these few images really looks amazing ... with the skills in the community, this could get very amazing very quickly. S!

Hi folks, this is my OP and 1st forum post. I own most of the DCS products and am a huge supporter of ED and what they are doing with DCS in general. DCS World 2 is shaping up to be a major step forward. It is the WW2 theater that I am particularly enthusiastic about. Bombers are critical so where are the twin engine bomber air-frame announcements in association with WW2? The first post mention of a bomber air-frame was this http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=136615 by 'Call911' back in December of last year. Basically, there is not much about. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=126782 by O_Smiladon is another. I cannot find a lot however about WW2 bombers [axis or allied] though I can appreciate immediately that given the fidelity ED and ED approved partners put into everything they do, bombers would be an absolute huge undertaking! My questions stems from an expectation that many existing WW2 Flight Simmers will be attracted to DCS WW2 and will expect to see not only fighter air-frames in game. S!
