[REPORTED] Spitfire propeller with motion smoothing/ASW
Redglyph replied to Reflected's topic in Bugs and Problems
If you don't want to have to switch it off every time, and especially if you don't want to see the frozen image, you can modify the following file Mods\aircraft\SpitfireLFMkIX\Cockpit\Scripts\mainpanel_init.lua line 43: --mirrors_present = true; mirrors_present = false; That will give you a nice, black rearview mirror ;) It will be reverted on updates though, and you cannot switch it back on while in a mission. It's also possible to switch off the mirrors of all modules from the main settings menu, in the Gameplay tab (it was mentioned before, just saw it). -
It's possible by guessing where the lock is, see picture below. Unfortunately the mouse cross is not shown, but you can see the tooltip. There is no sound yet either. Unless you modified some files, it is not possible to lean out of the cockpit, whether it's open or close, because otherwise people would see the missing model parts that are not rendered to optimize the performances.

We're glad to serve our country as test pilots ;)

DCS 1.5.5.60338.212 Here are two screenshots, with nav lights on and off. In the off position, there is an erroneous cast of red light on the ground. Note: the tail light issue that was reported earlier is also faintly visible, there is a glint when it's off.

Here is a track file, which is small and works on replay. Also included the log. It really depends, I had to try several times, here the first salvo was barely audible so I sprayed some more bullets to show the problem, hopefully it's convincing and reproducible. spit.no-sound.trk dcs.log.txt

I'll give it a try. I posted a log for the F-86 problem that is mentioned above (perhaps linked to this issue?), a while ago, but we never had any feedback. Not sure it helps? Just a thought: usually the tracks are not working for the Spitfire, they do something entirely different when replayed. So perhaps it should be made with another aircraft. BTW, would it be possible to increase the size limit of the forums somewhat? Those tracks hardly go below 5 MB... :)

DCS 1.5.5.60338.212 Same issue, very noticeable in mission "Battle over the Lake". Most of the time the sound of guns or cannons is not heard.

Interesting. The figure 41 pg. 81 in the DCS manual shows there is no booster pump (this would probably be the item 19 which has no legend). It could be wrong, though. It matches the right figure in attachment below. I've seen a paragraph in the Pilot's Notes saying the booster fuel pump had a switch on the left side (two positions, or three in case of rear fuel tank). So either this version - has a booster pump, but it's not mentioned in the text and figure 41 is not correct, and some additional info should be part of the start-up procedure; - has no booster pump, and this switch is for the fuel pump. Activating it seems to play the same role as the booster pump, though. In either case the fuel pump (which is a separate element, as I said: item 5 on figure 41) exists but there is no explanation on when to use it in the DCS manual. Perhaps it's automatic, I didn't find how to activate it in any document. So, some confusion here asks for clarification :) Another figure in attachment shows the procedure with the booster pump, and also the engine start-up mentioned above.

This is not what I see. Could you tell me on which version you see a cockpit selection for the Mig-21Bis?
-
Hm, I see no description of the fuel pump usage pg. 19, or do you mean the Pilot's Notes and not the DCS manual? There are mentions of it in the latter, but just that it exists. I don't think the wobble pump and the fuel pump are the same. There are two configurations: the wobble pump vs the booster pump, it seems we get the wobble pump variant. In the booster pump variant, there is a fuel pump after the filter and to the carburator, and a booster pump at the outlet of the lower tank. In the other, there is a wobble pump and a fuel pump. What you describe is the use of the wobble pump, I'm talking about the fuel pump.

DCS 1.5.5.60338.212 The "description.lua" in the MIG-21bis\Liveries\Mig-21_CP\custom directory is replaced by the default file with any new update, rendering the option of a custom livery pointless. Suggestion: the "description.lua" file should not be part of the installation files, it should be given as a template with a different name to avoid its removal, and the system should detect whether the description.lua file is present to validate the presence of a custom livery.

Aren't those two lay/lie the most confusing and hated irregular verbs of all times? :D

pg. 133-134, isn't the sequence as follows? (AP 1565I Pilot's Notes for Spitfire IX,XI & XVI) - switch ON both ignitions - press starter and booster coil buttons - when the engine fires, release the starter button, keeping the booster coil button depressed and priming if required, until the engine is running smoothly Probably more complex to handle. pg. 136, last paragraph, isn't 15°C the temperature the oil should reach at this stage, instead of 20°C? Even if that sounds very low. pg. 137, last paragraph, "Operation of the propeller regulator. To do so, move the pitch lever from its frontmost position to the rear position, reducing the RPM to 250-300." I don't think the RPM should be so low ;) Other, the usage of the fuel pump is not mentioned in the pre-check or start-up, or did I miss it? I must admit I'm a bit confused about this one.

We saw this pass a while ago, but I thought some would definitely get a kick out of using this ;) https://www.haraldjoergens.com/panoramas/spitfire-td314/files/ I think that's an HF though.

Problem with trainings mission: Taxi, takeoff
Redglyph replied to KonniRichter's topic in Bugs and Problems
DCS 1.5.5.60338.212 Taxiing is a tricky lesson indeed, especially on top of learning how to handle the skittish Spitfire on the ground ;) The tracking of left / right and many other parameters is great, though, and the accent of the instructor is a nice touch! 1) I confirm this training mission is sometimes eager to trigger a failed mission, the problem is that it does so - in situations that are still recoverable (going just a little too far but still on the runway for ex.) - without telling the user what failed - resetting the mission directly which breaks the flow of events. The most problematic being the "not telling the user what went wrong", sometimes it's obvious (I saw trigger zones in the grass near the runway, I can imagine the user will guess what went wrong), but more often it's not. Examples: For one, I had my first "reset" when I started to move the Spitfire: did I go too far? or too much on the left or right? I remember closing the canopy to hear the instructor, since the "visibility" is not really increased by opening it anyway, was it the reason? I still don't know. Another attempt that I caught on a track file (but it's 19 MB, too large to upload here) failed when starting to take-off, with a correct boost, and well-aligned aircraft ... I don't know what was deemed wrong. 2) The detection of the rudder trim is not working when using a shortcut apparently, or even when turning the trim with the mouse. Sometimes it's caught almost immediately and it's fine, but most of time I had to fiddle with the trim back and forth to make the mission trigger. 3) Already mentioned in other posts, the voice of the instructor should be at the same level as the ATC, for now it's inaudible even with "helmet on" (changing the volume of World / ... is not a valid option). -
DCS 1.5.5.60338.212 The problem has disappeared, but now the mouse cross cursor is visible all the time, does not disappear when the mouse remains idle.

Here is the track file, hopefully that should help them. Due to the limitations of these forums, I had to split the file and rename the 2nd part "mission09.z01" to "mission09.z01.zip", it should be renamed back before attempting to unzip. mission09.zip mission09.z01.zip

You will love this. I just tried once more and it failed to start again. Then I wondered whether it could be failing only the first time the mission is run after booting DCS... I saved the track (easier than doing the start-up every time...) and sure enough, when I play it the first time after launching DCS, the Saxon flight doesn't start (which seems to be the first clue here). If I play it again, they start right away, I can see their head lights, the engine starting, and they begin taxiing. I did it a few times, it's reproducible. Wondering whether it could be an uninitialized flag or similar, I ran another mission first after launching DCS, a mission with another aircraft. But watching the track of mission 9 right after, Saxon was starting. So much for the uninitialized theory, unless you see something I don't. It must be some peculiar bug of DCS where something is wrong the first time. Anyway, it seems that the easiest work-around is launching any other mission before this one.

reported Training missions: instructor's voice inaudible

So that's what I've been doing wrong all this time :D And a 5-word summary in the post, of course ;) -
reported Training missions: instructor's voice inaudible
Redglyph replied to Redglyph's topic in Bugs and Problems
It seems neither of you has read my post, probably just the title  Anyway, it's possible to simply adjust the gain in the .ogg file, for example with a tool like xrecode2. Works perfectly and no need to record them again, I suggest to do that to fix the problem. -
reported Training missions: instructor's voice inaudible
Redglyph posted a topic in Bugs and Problems
DCS 1.5.5.60314.211 The volume of the instructor's voice should be increased, it's very low and inaudible over the engine. It is said that if the user can't hear the instructor, he may turn down the "World" or the "In-Cockpit" volume, but (1) it's not enough even lowering those within acceptable limits, (2) it's not a good idea to change the overall settings and make it worse for other missions and modules when it's possible to simply speak louder. I also tried with the "Hear like helmet" but it's not enough either, the voice volume is simply too low. -
It blocked two times with further attempts, then it was fine with three more, and I couldn't find what made a difference so far. I first thought it was ATC, but it's not (though sometimes I get a denial for start-up, taxi or take-off - even when still taxiing for the latter). That's pretty weird, I must do something different when lead doesn't start but no luck finding what. When it happened, I jumped into lead's seat and his engine had not started (or was shut down after). And I didn't check whether Saxon was off or not, shame.

Soundtrack for the upcoming DCS Spitfire Mk.IX by btd
Redglyph replied to NRG-Vampire's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Wasn't that one selected for the theme, finally? :( -
Yes, less work for you with the new kneeboard :)
