  1. OK, this seems to be related to the water detail level. At low I get no lines but flashing textures on the water. Medium and High settings produce the vertical lines shown in my screenshot.
  2. More testing and I've found that- No MSAA = water artifact MSAA 2x = water artifact MSAA 4x = water artifact SSAA 1.5 = no water artifact Still testing trying to narrow down what is causing this.
  3. I'm seeing a faint vertical lines artifact mainly when over shallow water. It doesn't happen over deep water or land. It only seems to occur with MSAA 2x. If I add SSAA 1.5 or bump MSAA up to 4x it goes away. I'm on today's open beta release but I've seen this since the last update. I tried rolling back nvidia drivers to 411.63 but no change. Running the latest drivers now (417.22). Is anyone else seeing this? It's most noticeable in PG map when over shallow water. Roll the aircraft and look out the side to see it.
  4. Does this only happen in the Gulf map? I'm seeing the vertical lines artifact in the attached pic but only in PG map and only shows up when flying over water. I'm seeing this since the last OB update. I also updated Nvidia drivers twice with no change. 417.01 and 417.22.
  5. I've noticed the same stuttering around clouds except I don't use VR so it's not a VR specific issue. Clear out the clouds and little to no stuttering. Also I've noticed different performance and issues between the different maps. In the Caucus and Persian Gulf map, textures seem to load very fast with minimal stuttering while flipping around the F2 view of aircraft in the region. Nevada stutters horribly when viewing aircraft in different areas of the map. The FPS drop by half and the game stutters while the textures slowly load in, then its back to 60 fps. Mirrors are another issue. They don't seem to affect FPS for me but they do create TrackIR microsuttering when looking around the cockpit. I lock at 60 fps to keep TrackIR smooth but with mirrors on I get the annoying microstuttering.
  6. Performance seems to improved in the latest update. On the previous OB version I would get major stuttering and slow texture loading when flipping around the F2 view to various aircraft in the area. FPS would dive down into the 20's sometimes while textures were loaded in. That seems to be fixed. I'll do some more testing today but it's looking good so far.
  7. 59.930 fps didn't work well for me. I went back to 60 fps cap in NVInspector with Gsync on. This seems to give me smoothest trackir experience. I'll try capping with Riva and see if I can see any difference. The stuttering I noticed an increase in since the last beta were actually game performance stutters where there is a massive fps drop, stutter, then back to 60fps. The trackir microstuttering is different. I don't see any fps dip or any other performance isssue, its just out of sync frames/refresh rate. Mirrors on seems to make the trackir microstutter much worse and noticeable.
  8. OK.. I'm trying this. Also running 144hz Gysnc monitor. Currently capping fps in NVInspector to 60 with Limiter V2. Prior to last weeks update I was pretty smooth but also noticed an increase in stutters after the update. Even with the 60 fps cap I still get microstutters with the mirrors on. Would be nice if I could fly with them on but oh well.
  9. Goa, I don't believe this to be true. I think that some people just don't notice the micro stuttering even though it's there. If you make quick head movements to look around you won't notice it. It's only when slow panning back and forth. Also, have you noticed the impact of mirrors on micro-stuttering? I'm all locked up at 60 fps and trackir still micro-stutters with mirrors on. No dip in fps at all. Turn mirrors off and smooth as silk.
  10. I've been watching the thread from the beginning and currently running 1.15b of your textures. FANTASTIC job Mustang. What are the chances of you doing a "mild winter" texture? Although the full on snow cover winter textures are neat they seem quite unrealistic to me for the region. It would be even cooler to have full snow cover in the mountains and little to no snow on the plains, if that is possible.
  11. Maybe Nvidia thinks they can get away with that because of the mining boom. But, that appears to have fizzled out so hopefully those numbers aren't real. My tolerance for price on 2080TI is around $900. I normally sell my old card to offset the price. Hopefully Vulkan for DCS isn't to far off. Who knows maybe we can just switch to AMD cards as they are reported to see better performance gains with Vulkan than Nvidia.
  12. I wouldn't go THAT far.. although RHS just released an update which briefly renewed my interest in Arma 3 :smilewink: I tested on my i7-4790K system and stuttering and trackir performance was actually worse. Even with the graphics turned down so the 980TI could do 60 fps. I think we just have to live with this for the moment. At 60 fps lock things are pretty smooth but there is some more motion blur as expected. I found that the microstuttering I was still observing at 60 fps seems to be caused by mirrors. If I turn the mirrors off in the hornet it pretty much goes away completely. I notice this because when I looked back the rear of the jet there was not stutter, but when looking forward to the cockpit it would stutter. Turn off the mirrors and problem solved. Hopefully the 2080 TI will have enough power to drive this sim at 1440p/120 fps.
  13. I still have my old system which is i7-4790K 16GB DDR3-2400 GTX 980TI. Maybe I will test with that sometime this week and see if I get same results. Besides the normal trackir micro-stuttering we're talking about here, I also get occasional real stutters where fps drop by half or more. There's no obvious bottleneck when this happens so I don't know what causes it.
  14. This seems to give me the best results so far, but I'm still getting some micro stuttering when panning around the cockpit with trackir. What refresh rate are you setting your monitor at?
  15. THIS is a great tip. I was locking via graphics.lua and was seeing fps fluctuate from 58-61. Adding the lock via the NVInspector as you described works very well. Thank you.
  16. What monitor do you have?
  17. Interesting results for trackir fps. Mine appears to be locked at 30. If I move my head around with the track clip pro on the fps doesn't go over 30. If I move the mouse around the screen it will go up to 120. Strange.
  18. This is an interesting theory. I realized yesterday that the TrackIR is infact 120hz. I will test the framerate for mine and report back.
  19. I'm curious how other experience this trackir issue in other games. For me, its like this DCS = trackir is smooth with 60 fps lock AF FS2 = trackir is a jittery mess at any framerate. X-Plane 11 = similar fluctuating fps as DCS, but trackir is smooth as butter
  20. Yes, 120/144hz produces much more fluid motion in games. The problem is that with games like DCS its impossible to maintain fps in the 120-144 range at 1440p. Forget about it at 4k.
  21. What are using for a camera? The PS3 eye goes up to 120hz so I wonder if that would work better than the trackir camera. I happen to have a PS3 eye laying around so I tore it apart to take out the IR filter. Turns out I have the one that's impossible to remove
  22. This is exactly what I experience. I wonder if more people actually have this problem but they don't realize it. You can definitely tell the difference when you lock it at 60 fps. Much smoother tracking.
  23. Switching to the Asus board just resolved my freezing during restart with trackir plugged into USB 3 port. I still have the same shimmer effect with trackir if over 60 fps. This makes me wonder if high refresh rate G-Sync monitors are worth it for DCS. If I can only run DCS at 60 fps what's the point? I'm not confident Natural Point is going to do anything about this. Has anyone tried any trackir alternatives (like FaceTrackNoIR) to see if they do the same thing?
  24. I don't think this trackir issue is really a DCS issue. People have this same problem in other sims. I also have less than smooth trackir in Aerofly FS 2, even with framerate locked at 120fps. I even found a thread about it on the Natural Point forums (link below). I tried the suggestion by the OP but it didn't make any difference for me in Aerofly. I'm still experimenting with running DCS at higher fps than 60. If I leave the fps unlocked then my 1080TI tries to achieve the highest possible framerate and maxes itself out. The fps fluctuates wildly and can go anywhere from 50 - 120 fps. Normally its around 70 - 90. If I leave it locked at 60 things are smooth, and my GPU stays around 75% utilization. This gives me some headroom to add in higher settings if they ever add some better AA options. Aerofly FS2 thread: https://www.aerofly.com/community/forum/index.php?thread/12599-help-trackir-not-smooth-but-everything-else-is/
  25. The cloud stuttering is different than what Goa was talking about with trackir. The cloud stutter is an obvious and blatant stutter. You can actually watch the fps counter drop by half or more when it occurs. I only get this with cumulus clouds enabled. I've yet to experience it just flying around with clouds set to zero. I really wish ED would show us some progress on the new weather engine. Or at least enable editing of the cloud lua's. There's a bunch of settings in there that look interesting. Any changes to them will disable all clouds though. I wish I could just make cloud setting 8 thicker to where they almost cover the entire sky.
