Please elaborate what you mean by "vertical beam mode" , are you sure that is not the Fixed beam mode where the radar is fixed to the longitudinal axis of the plane scanning 1.5deg from it? How would it be able to decern from a ground lock to an aircraft. -Also, how would rolling the plane work again in this mode? Ground clutter filter? are you sure you not meaning the side lobe filter or the mode where the antenna is tilted upwards to actually not look down? How would those let you find a plane with terrain behind it? So... Funky super mig-21 lookdown shootdown interceptor

This day I was flying in the sabre on a 1.5 online server. I was shot down by flying 'very' low to the ground by an R3R. When i asked how they were able to do that, two players answered that any good mig-21 player knows how to radar lock low flying targets. I asked, how? and they said flying inverted. I found it hard to believe - so I checked the Tacview recording afterwards and sure enough, if the mig-21 rolls through the inverted, or stays inverted or maybe even its enough to be rolled 90deg. it can 'see' low flying aircraft below it as if it had a doppler radar but immune to notching. Then it holds the contact rolls upright and engages in a lookdown-shootdown scenario with no worry about notching and no one the wiser. You have to see this to believe it. That its been known for a while, how long idk, but long enough to be used as an exploit for those that should know better, and a funky super mig-21 lookdown-shootdown interceptor for those that don't. I would say, this does not seem correct, I am not a Mig-21 expert but i don't recall reading about any lookdown-shootdown abilities. See for yourselves, I've tried to inlcude the replay file but it wouldn't take: the tacview file is attached and a short video of the tacview highlighting the issue linked below: P.S. Sorry GORNYAK for the TK that was all my bad. Tacview-Battle_Over_Sukhumi_City.zip.zip

Ditto, Thank you.

I guess Bill Gunston and sharky know nothing about ACM. A specific combat maneuver with designed purpose, and you trivialize it, place it out of context, then dismiss it with hyperbole about how hypothetically people ignorant of its utility & limitations will complain and annoy you on the forums.

 sigh, I'll bite on this one. Did you walk or fly the way from DC to Disney World? Ok, slightly more seriously now: Actually yes, "literally next door" means India is close by to the straits and including their aircraft to represent that countries potential interests is very plausible. As is China, for the same reasons that the US is considered - 'national interests' So,according to your own nitpicking then only aircraft from the states represented on the actual map should be included. Guess no one can come up with hypothetical scenarios with which to make missions with the editor for people to join up and play ( its what this sim does ). So, negatory, nada to US planes because a state not on the map would never deploy to a local base to act out in their interests, oh wait doesn't the US have a very big base in Qatar currently? - What about those big movable ones, you know, what are they called... uh Carriers! Guess its totally out of the question to think other countries would as well huh - :music_whistling: As far as enemies are concerned, this is a flight simulator, not a think tank for the defense department; luckily, in the middle-east, more so than in Georgia for that matter, or Nevada, or Normandy even, its easy to simulate all kinds of adversaries in 'simulated play' in the middle east - why? because all parties can be potential adversaries of each other. Give India for example, it could get into a row easily with Pakistan which may have some influence to purchase defense assets or actual involvement from the US, that could grow into Russia sympathetic to India as well as China getting involved as well... wow that was easy, and it took me 5 seconds to come up with that one, now it just needs someone to make a scenario in the ME and the jets are off!:pilotfly: Lets not "nay-say" so quickly, if aircraft could be brought in and could have a place in DCS then by no means should we be "nit picking" from a sequestered point of view. So I say, if there are two planes that might be included I respond with... "HHoohhh, twins! Take 'em. Take 'em take 'em take 'em take 'em!"

Waves and white caps on water aligned to wind direction
cauldron replied to Ala12Rv-watermanpc's topic in DCS Core Wish List
my understanding of the OP...that water streaks should be parallel to the high winds and the whites caps should be perpendicular... you know aligned. -
Shock wave condensations could be modeled into the atmosphere: And of course this goes hand in hand with over wing vapor effects - being more common:

Well, India is literally next door to the straits, and China is the biggest user of the straits, more than any other country.... Good scenario maker huh :pilotfly:

How about.... One that can carry a Chinook with its cable? Who can guess the name of this big'ol gal: and lower tech less - no classified items: Can you see the daisycutter?

Not sure if it was mentioned, 80 pages is a lot... But I am of the opinion that dcs could go more than just Russian built planes & US built planes. So... How about the Indian Tejas, or the Chinese J-10 ( which is based off the LAVI ), I would love to see either of those two planes flyable!

Red Flag Rumble - Mig15 vs F86 - Round 4

I would like to mention two aircraft that would IMO fit well, and expand the internationality of the DCS modules. I think these may actually be good contenders for consideration at least: The Chinese J10: and the Indian indigenous designed Tejas: Maybe these may be down the road at some time.

Are we players saying farewell to the MiG-15 and the Sabre?!
cauldron replied to Alpenwolf's topic in Multiplayer
My 2 cents: I have both modules and i love them both. A lot. However, every time i get online and do a multiplayer search i check for sabre-mig-15 and over the last year i can say i have been able to go head to head sabre-mig15 about 2 or 3 times. In the ACG server recently i have flown the sabre vs. mig-21's with success, but its hard to do without flares or an rwr :joystick: -anyways, i always check for these classics 1st. I love the modern planes very much, currently learning the UH-1 and the Viggen, but i always check for these whenever i check online. I hope there will be more players & support soon. -
The official release notes thread says it has, since yesterday. Anyone know what is going on? https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=147601&page=5 "...DCS 1.5.7 Update to Open Beta today. It will be available for public in the next week..." So dcs.beta updater is not getting it, nor is @alpha... Is this some lost in translation thing, or what ?:book:

Basher...I think I read this book, by Bill Gunston right? Anyways, this assumes that DCS can model properly the ir signature of the harrier, otherwise they[the adversary] may not be have much of a need to maneuver to get a good ir lock. Btw... thanks for posting that passage, very appropriate to the Harrier.

Sure, The hardware attaches with a magnetic mount barely off screen on the bottom of your monitor. The software you download and it can stay running whenever you want, even on start up. it can recognize who is in front of the monitor and choose the profile for that person, and can turn on from sleep and put the monitor to sleep when you sit down or get up. For DCS you'll need to run the "gamehub" as well, tell it where your DCS.exe file is... and set up all the settings you will want for DCS. fyi you have to tell it each time you switch from 2.1 to 1.5 until they merge to 2.5. For my settings which are still a WiP but they are posted in the input/output section of the forums. <--- not sure how to link it too you... its on page 2 or 3 i think, you'll find it. ps. i am using the 4c, which is the second gen. model which combines eye tracking with head tracking.

: This was an honest post about a tracking hardware/software that i recently found very good better -for me- than trackir... so i wanted to share what i had found for others to see and maybe see for themselves. But you know better, i am actually a spy for Tobii marketing .. you got me. With that statement i guess i can infer that your avatar is subliminal marketing for the candy corn industry.:smilewink:

These two review videos got me back into flying the Huey!!! :joystick: Hope they fix the rpm split soon.

Thanks, I get your points. Though I would argue that the M2000 RWR is "very" far from perfect. As a pilot i want perfect, may not get it, just as you said... but i think the delay of staying on" is waaay to excessive. It really needs to be turned off or ignored to make the correct move, that's really indicative of how effective it actually is. Hopefully this can be given attention, and the details of why and how revealed. Thats a good point in regard to turning on the gaze tracking features really shows off the ability to review where your attention was, either to self teach or be taught.:joystick:

Sorry for your bad experience. I disagree. I have had Trackir for a while, and once i got the settings correct for the 4c my trackir has been relegated to when i go arcade in warthunder. i.e. its mostly been shelved. The only point where its better is 6DoF, which is a marginal need considering how much more responsive, and precise the 4c is, and i don't need to make unrealistic head movements to look around. VR may be the future, but it has many problems at the moment. But, i would ask however to avoid posting such categorical comments in the 5 words or less style, they really are not constructive to any discussion or debate. They really belong more in a soccer/futball match - thanks.

Thanks! I know its 15-min long, but i wanted to show several aspects, steady cockpit clicking and viewing, a dogfight, ground ref. maneuvers, and a runway flyby to land... or porpoise to crash, as i forgot my height from cockpit to gear on final  If i do others, i'll try to make them shorter.

Tobii eyetracker 4c demo video
cauldron replied to cauldron's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Sure... I'll post it up in a bit... remember, to keep your head movements to a minimum, its *not* a track-ir... you don't need to move your head up move than just a tad for it to work, move it too much and, it loses sight of your eyes b/c your checks will cover your eyes from the sensors, then it doesn't work anymore. so the key is to make the head movements very small, it picks them up just fine. Also make sure the sensors have a clear vies of your eyes while you fly... I have the sensor bar tilted slightly upwards to be pointed straight towards my eyes, b/c i tend to keep my head a close to the screen. <--- just me, but make sure its got a clear view of your eyes, use the little widget at the bottom right corner, showing how well its seeing both of your eyes. I do not wear glasses but i know it works with them, just ask on the tobii discord, they are very helpful there, if that may be the case. i'll post my settings - still a WiP buts i'm happy where they are right now. - Cheers! happy flying:pilotfly: -
Baltic_dragon... Count me on board to get it... i liked the video, your narrative gave me the right impression of whether or not i'd like to play the campaign... answer: a big Yes!
