  1. Blackburn/Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer S2 - Unquestionably the best low level strike/ground attack aircraft ever produced! - Operates from land bases or carriers, uses lots of weapons already produced by ED or Razbam (Usual MK8x series of unguided bombs including Mk82SE, SNEB rocket pods, GBU laser guided bombs, Sidewinders) as well as Antiradar/TV guided Martel missiles and Sea Eagle anti ship missiles. - Self designated laser drops or buddy lasing for other aircraft. - Best looking military aircraft - no question! - Full set of RAF manuals available covering all aircraft systems, weapons and operating data (including Pave Spike pod, radar, INS etc - just ask ;) ) - I'd be happy to help for free where I can to get it moving :) Pretty please?
  2. On an aircraft with a 'secondary' ground attack role like the M2000C I'd imagine that there are not separate release profiles within a drop method per weapon - realistically, the ballistic computer probably just identifies it as another Mk82/84 - without a targeting pod or LST the aircraft doesn't 'know' it's carrying a guided weapon. At a guess, perhaps pilots are taught to aim slightly past the target using CCRP mode to give the bomb enough energy to manoeuvre into the laser spot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. You need a PID controller to prevent porpoising when under autopilot control - the actual numbers required will vary on the aerodynamic and inherent stability characteristics of your particular model. You 'could' go a slightly different route, by constantly taking a reading of your actual altitude/airspeed/roll angle etc and use that to create a delta term; then effect the relevant trim control on a variable basis dependent on how large the delta is; i.e as the altitude delta decreases then slowly reduce the nose up trim until your vertical speed is zero and delta is also zero. You will also still need to damp the altitude hold to prevent the aircraft 'hunting' the selected altitude. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. For reference, the FAB-250 should have a lethal radius against lightly armoured targets of around 30m for impact fuzing (as simulated in DCS), and around 100m for soft skinned targets. I would assume the Mk82 is similar in its power. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Hey Mike, I've got plenty of documentation (and I'm learning C++ and lua as I go along, being experienced in XML) for the Bucc S2 if you'd be interested? I've considered such a project myself in the medium to long term but the 3D modelling and animation is what I'd struggle with. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. You can assign the \ key in the controls menu, it shows as OEM102 though for some reason. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Unfortunately I don't have a headset at the moment so TS is out of the question. Maybe I'll pick one up and have a go. It's just so infuriating; along with the usual problems of target spotting against the new terrain it makes things even more frustrating. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Well, got my first taste of online play last night. Got to say, it was very, very disappointing. I loaded up at Anapa with an Su-25, planning to strike Sochi in an attempt to regain control of the base for the Redfor. Unfortunately, the near 200km journey was wasted when some cowboy in an Su-27 (who was also Redfor, thanks 'buddy') decided to gun me down from behind whilst I was skimming the treetops. The problem is there is no real coherency in either the operations or the mission planning. I appreciate this must be a huge undertaking to design such a large multiplayer mission but, as somebody interested only in ground attacks, without real tasking orders or targets provided on taking a slot the amount of guesswork and the distances to travel make it really frustrating, especially given the current modelling of most modules in the game (i.e. not being able to enter target coordinates into INS's). Not sure I'll be taking part again if this is how multi player is, especially if you can't even rely on your own allies to not shoot you in the back. :(
  9. Thanks Mac, I'll go with what I have listed then please mods :)
  10. I'd like to register if I can, never flown online but might as well jump in at the deep end! For callsign does it have to be linked to our DCS logbook name or DCS account login name? If logbook, as follows: Callsign: Tomcat22 Preferred Aircraft: Su-25 (not T) If it is DCS account name, then it is the same as my user name.
  11. Having just flown some rather extensive practice missions over the past week or two, using the Su-25 and various combinations of heavy rockets and free fall bombs I've noticed that even with area effect weapons like the S-24 unless you land an exact hit (extremely difficult under typical battlefield conditions) on even soft or lightly armoured targets like Ural-375's and SPH's then no damage is caused to the vehicles. From the literature I can find an S-24 should have a lethal radius of around 30m with impact fuzing or up to 300m with a proximity fuse. A FAB-250 is even less effective than an S-24 but should have a lethal blast radius of 30m on lightly armoured vehicles. Will this be looked at as with the lack of precision targeting capability it makes missions very difficult and inherently unrealistic? Look forward to a response from the devs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I have the Combat Aircraft one. Very informative. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I've been reading an excellent book about the Su-25 written by Alexander Mladenov, it covers their usage during a number of campaigns. For example, in Afghanistan initially the S5 rocket was heavily used during CAS missions but their low power and wide spread meant they were soon phased out in favour of S8s, used along with FAB-100 or FAB-250's. For preplanned strikes either FAB-500 or S24 (later S25) rockets were used depending on how hardened the target was. In 1986 KH25/29 laser guided were introduced and used for high value point targets only. Unfortunately for us, they were mostly ground designated by a BOMAN vehicle (basically a BTR80 with a scavenged Klyon-PS attached to it) which allowed fire and forget operation by the attacking pilot. After Stingers were provided to the Mujahideen in 1987 most strikes had a hard deck of 3500m, with attacks commencing from 6000m. Flights were usually two pairs of aircraft (four in total) flying alternate attack runs. External tanks were always required because of the short range on internal fuel. 14. I absolutely agree; I only get an hour or two each week on my PC and simply can't justify dropping over £400 on a view headset; I wouldn't pay it for a monitor. Hegykc's tracker seems made for me; hopefully it performs as well as its competitors seem to. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Just rereading this thread and picked up on this point; however there are pictures of Su-25 aircraft at Latakia equipped with both B-8 pods and B-13 pods at the same time. Is this due to the improved avionics of the SM3 upgrade?
  16. Not really a coding expert but the 'if true airspeed < 200 the gear = 1' statement will override any other command; I think you'd need to introduce a parameter for 'gear lever position' or similar and use that as part of the code, and use the true airspeed comparator as a limiter; I.e if TAS < 200 AND gear lever position = 1 then gear state = (add a stepping equation to simulate gear extension time until result = 1.) Just a thought from my limited XML and Python knowledge! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. What could bring some more variety without too much effort on the part of ED would be to offer a 'terrain change' option for the existing maps; for example being able to select the Black Sea map as 'desert terrain'. This would enable it to be used as a basis for warfare more commonly seen in the last 30 years without the effort of an entire new map. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Well, I think Replika has just received a big boost in potential sales given the announced price of Rift: $599! I was expecting to pay no more than $399 for a consumer release. Can't wait to see the results of your work, I'll be one of the first in line! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Professional and affordable TrackIR alternative I'm don't necessarily think people mean they are evil, but intense anti-competitive practices put you on a poor footing if we want to judge how moral it is to 'copy' an idea. Let's face it, plenty of companies who were 'first' to a groundbreaking idea such as Karl Benz with the internal combustion engine, Frank Whittle with the jet turbine, Hoover with the Vacuum cleaner, Scotch with sticky tape - they've all had their ideas 'copied' and improved by others yet they (or their companies) are still in business, still doing it by innovating. Naturalpoint can't realistically expect to keep churning out TrackIR version 'X', put the price up ANOTHER $20 and expect people to keep paying because they had the idea first. Especially as I can almost guarantee that their R&D and tooling costs are already well paid off, they could afford to dominate on price with 'competitors', rather than trying to stamp them out of business. Without companies like Replika, where is the incentive for TrackIR to improve, or to keep buying Naturalpoint products. It might just be the kick up the arse they need. 20. I was considering a Rift but at $39 this looks like a must buy for somebody who's never used any tracking equipment! Look forward to it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Brimstone is a radar guided missile (excepting the terminal laser guided attack of the Dual mode variant), so until ED develop a ground attack radar we wouldn't see it anyway. I've been using the rack of 4 x Hellfires as a substitute on a flyable Tornado mod (using the SU-25T avionics) and it provides useful precision guided attacks as long as there isn't too much in the way of enemy air defence.
  22. Yes, that is the MBD bomb rack. It is part of the standard armament in the sim, the Su-25 can carry up to eight MBD racks at once but you can only release all bombs from a rack at once in a cluster of four. They do make absolutely splendid anti convoy weapons if used in a ripple of 0.2-0.4 seconds and will take out most things. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Yes, but simple air to air only - IR guided missiles in bore sight mode; no radar guided attacks. I 'assume' you could enable HMS mode by commenting in the relevant line in the keyboard input map, but without trying it I couldn't say for sure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Ah, excellent! Thank you - having looked at it more I'd actually come to that conclusion but hadn't had chance to investigate further to test! Thanks for confirming. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. AMD or Intel? I've used AMD chips for both FSX and DCS over the past five years (I've currently got a X4 965 Black Edition OC'd to 3.8GHz) and have had benchmarked equivalent performance to friends with Intel chips that cost twice as much - I picked up the X4 for £79 3 years ago and (touchwood) it has run solid, cool and with great performance. I'm definitely sold on Nvidia GPU's though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
