i made a fun little low altitude mission over Vegas with 4 enemy MIG29s and me in an f15, to practice dog fighting skills. i find my self doing so many high G turns to locate and avoid enemies, that even at full after-burn, i end up crawling around at stall speed. i wonder, where are the best resources for learning good technique in this kind of situation? i realize, in real life dog fights don't usually take place at a couple of thousand feet AGL, but i like that kind of flying, more exiting, so wondering how to improve.

i think i figured it out, unlock TWS target in the sensors menu

once i've launched a missile (AIM 120) in bore sight mode, how do i get to lock onto another target while the missile is still in flight to the first target. is that even possible? (note, i'm usually in a dog flight so close range missile launch) thx

DCS NTTR 2.0 Missions
steve2112 replied to Justificus's topic in DCS: Nevada Test and Training Range
this thread is way too long. it would be great to have several threads for NTTR missions, one for a10c missions, another for f15 missions, etc. i'm trying to find some f15 missions in here but there is too much to dig through. -

2nd keyboard with custom key mappings?
steve2112 replied to steve2112's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
thanks, if anyone really needs support for a third keyboard/numpad whatever, let me know, i think it would not be too hard to add that, although its not something i would likely use. funny, you must have been typing the above post as i was typing this. what's that about great minds think alike! -
so i've been working on a cool tool which will help people create aerobatic missions. it counts down times and distances, verbally, to any location so you can time your maneuvers to sync perfectly with an AI plane and/or other people. its working now on my computer but i want to put together a mini airshow demo first to show off its features before release. unfortunately, i have a paying job for the next couple of weeks so progress will be slow, but will definitely finish it.

2nd keyboard with custom key mappings?
steve2112 replied to steve2112's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
nice work. actually, one more small favor to ask anyone using this, pls download from here http://download.cnet.com/Multi-Keyboard-Remapper/3000-2094_4-76473055.html and leave a nice review if you have time. i think it would be useful to a lot of people beyond DCS, but so far only DCS players are using it. thanks, Steve -
can anyone point me to some documentation on LoGetWorldObjects() or at least what it returns, or where to find a .lua file with a description? i know this: local o = LoGetWorldObjects() for k,v in pairs(o) do io.write(string.format("%d B %s[%s]@@%f %f %f %f##\n", k,v.Name,v.Coalition, v.LatLongAlt.Lat, v.LatLongAlt.Long, v.LatLongAlt.Alt, v.Heading)) end but would like to know if anything else available from LoGetWorldObjects ok, i found something here https://github.com/sprhawk/dcs_scripts/blob/master/Export.lua LoGetObjectById() -- (args - 1 (number), results - 1 (table)) Returned object table structure: { Name = Type = {level1,level2,level3,level4}, ( see Scripts/database/wsTypes.lua) Subtype is absent now Country = number ( see Scripts/database/db_countries.lua Coalition = CoalitionID = number ( 1 or 2 ) LatLongAlt = { Lat = , Long = , Alt = } Heading = radians Pitch = radians Bank = radians Position = {x,y,z} -- in internal DCS coordinate system ( see convertion routnes below) -- only for units ( Planes,Hellicopters,Tanks etc) UnitName = unit name from mission (UTF8) GroupName = unit name from mission (UTF8) }

i guess not but i'd sometimes like to see the AI pilots view. is there any way? thx

the built in AI aerobatics don't seem to work well. i've attached a very simple mission, all the AI plane needs to do is fly 50m AGL in a straight line then do an aileron roll, but it flies all over the place for no reason, then crashes. anyhow, still looking into it, but it looks like the AI doesn't like low AGL flying at all. UPDATE, if i set 'start immediately' it works better. now have have the AI doing an aileron roll at 30m AGL. that seems to be as low as it will go. see a2.miz but then it does some wired stuff after the turn, not sure why yet. ANOTHER UPDATE so i have it doing a low alt aileron roll and a loop without crashing now. see a3.miz all my missions are in SU-27 using NTTR, if anyone wants me to post an example using the default terrain on 1.5 let me know this is really a good tool for practicing close formation aerobatics. i'm going to work up a full air show now then post when i'm done a1.miz a2.miz a3.miz

i just realized i could make a muliplayer version of this race using the air show pylons to mark the course and those zone trigger things with an altitude check, since most of the course is close to the ground. for the high up gates, i could use a hovering helicopter to mark the gate i guess. but i'm not sure how many people are interested right now since not much response to this thread.

i just took a very quick look at flying with some of the built in aero stuff in DCS. i'm going to create a mission with those tools and see what happens. will post
-
i suspected as much. oh well, it hard enough to fly it by yourself anyhow, at least for me.

Here is the fruits of my labor for the last 5 days or so. It's a high speed race through down town Vegas. Here's a youtube showing you how to complete it. [ame] [/ame] And download this for the miz file, the sounds, scripts, a route map and the tracks of me doing it. My flying skills have improved one million percent making this circuit, I hope it helps you too. Please post your tracks if you can complete to top of Stratosphere with your times. And please remember to hit like on the youtube, and if you are really grateful to me for this, download and contribute to my multi keyboard remapper tool here. I'll work on a multiplayer version and a part 2 which will include the hoover dam. It anyone want to help me develop the multiplayer, let me know. Thanks, Steve

i prefer the simplicity of the su-27 HUD to say the f-15/f-16 in some ways, certainly speed and altitude displays are way better (cleaner) IMHO, but i really miss the FPV and G meter. is there no way to mod the HUD?

am i mission something here? when i 'watch track' i can use F2, F4, zoom, etc, etc. to control the views but when i go to record AVI i'm only seeing the view i set while i was flying the track. any way to switch views in record to AVI mode? thx UPDATE, its working now, don't know why it wasn't working before

2nd keyboard with custom key mappings?
steve2112 replied to steve2112's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
i just added a kickstarter project to raise money to develop a GUI front end configuration and label printing tool for Multi Keyboard Remapper. If interested, please contribute $5 to the kickstarter project. Don't worry, the basic text configured version will continue to be free always. -
cool, that seems to work, thanks

i want to generate a random number at startup so in a script i use local v = math.random(1, 7) but it always gives me the same number, so i put math.randomseed(os.time()) before it but it crashes on randomseed any idea how to get a random seed value? thx UPDATE scratch that, it seems it does seed random every time without randomseed, i guess the first few times i tried it just happened to come up with the same number

i've tried setting the speed to 0, i've tried setting no waypoints, i've tried setting really slow and speed and lots of circling waypoints, whatever i do, it just flies away. any idea how to get it to stay in one place? thx
-
thanks for the tip, i thought it was something like that because i have noticed that sounds that used to be in the trigger, when i move them to a script, sometimes they play, but ones that have never been in a trigger, they never play
-
no, nothing. i check the log file too, no sign of a problem there. is it just me maybe or does anyone else see this problem? thx

beat me to it try this [ame] [/ame]
