New RTX 2080, very poor performance
dadunn1700 replied to Wizard1393's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Personally, I use HWInfo to do all monitoring tasks. https://www.hwinfo.com/ I have it setup so my cpu, gpu, and coolant temps are in view at all times in the taskbar. It's has a low resource use as a background program. Blue/cpu, green/gpu, red/coolant temps in Celcius. -

I am at a total loss other. Hope the RMA solves your problem. That is extremely odd. -
New RTX 2080, very poor performance
dadunn1700 replied to Wizard1393's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Their is not much of a difference now between Afterburner BETA and Precision X1. When the RTX cards were released, EVGA Precision X1 was the only software you could use to overclock them and currently only the BETA version of MSI Afterburner is compatible with RTX cards. I have no idea what happens if you try to overclock an RTX card with incompatible software, but I'm guessing it could possibly trigger safe mode in an RTX card. -

If the GPU is locked at 300mhz this is a known issue with RTX cards. You'll likely have to RMA it unless Nvidia or the vendor informs you of a firmware update....which is unlikely. I have a watercooled 2080ti FE and have had zero issues, but I have kept up to date on all the issues to look out for. When the card locks to 300mhz it is in a "safe mode" that runs when there is a detected problem. Honestly I'd immediately RMA and go back to the 980ti until you receive your replacement. Fact is, if the 980ti works it is clearly not your system. Your PSU is more than enough for a single 2080. Even with a hacked bios, the most even the 2080ti will draw around 380w for the Founders based models. PS. Make sure you update MSI Afterburner to the newest BETA version (currently I believe Afterburner beta version is only version compatible with RTX) or uninstall it and download EVGA Precision X1. Otherwise it may make your card do all kinds of wonky things. These RTX cards are alot different than the 10 and 9 series cards. -
Been looking at buying a large USB powered button to create a semi-realistic representation of the red countermeasure button above the F-18 throttle on a desktop configuration. Anybody tried such thing and had a good experience? Here are some buttons I've considered. https://www.etsy.com/listing/106219173/the-big-button-red?gpla=1&gao=1&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_a-electronics_and_accessories-computers_and_peripherals-other&utm_custom1=b2cd4d9a-278b-4d18-839f-991b0b925902&utm_content=go_1843970779_69216055385_346364368041_pla-317092178063_c__106219173&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1PDQ-LO44wIVDY_ICh38TQ-EEAkYEyABEgLzEvD_BwE https://www.etsy.com/listing/287529869/big-usb-push-button-easy-install-for?gpla=1&gao=1&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_a-electronics_and_accessories-computers_and_peripherals-keyboards_and_mice-keyboards&utm_custom1=b2cd4d9a-278b-4d18-839f-991b0b925902&utm_content=go_1843970779_69216056585_346429258247_aud-318110574626:pla-315470422934_c__287529869&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIyajX47W44wIVEa_ICh0wuQe8EAkYDyABEgKdvfD_BwE

[RESOLVED] DCS Crashing While Flying F14
dadunn1700 replied to TexasBread's topic in Bugs and Problems
I'm getting the same issue. No logs. Happens with some of the IA F-14 missions. Particluarly the one's involving comms with Jester. -
During the loading of the instant action mission "Persian Tour" the loading screen gets stuck at loading at the "init; 97..."point. It's exactly the moment the screen should switch from showing the loading bar to another quick transition screen before being in the cockpit. "Hormuz Rocket Run" IA mission works fine. Haven't tried the others beyond these 2, but I keep getting this issue repeatedly with "Persian Tour". DCS is installed on an SSD and everything else loads quickly. I thought I'd see if anyone else is having this issue. Tried a DCS Repair already as well.

Even with Track IR I can't reach it. Only thing selectable is the cover even with my head leaning as far to the right and back as possible. -

1 - Does the grip have to have twist function? Twist mechanism does not change the looks of the grip, as it is entirely inside the casing. Also, this mechanism can be easily locked when not needed. However twist mechanism has its price, which will increase the total cost of the grip. I personally don't care if their is a twist functionality so long as I can lock it and keep it from twisting (which it was stated that it will lock). It's not a feature I will use since I have rudder pedals. 2 - Should there be a Warthog base mountable version of the grip? This question is more complex than it sounds. Warthog's controller can only handle buttons, not axes. Hence, this version of the grip will be limited in its functionality compared to standard version: the self centering thumbwheel will work as two buttons, effectively cancelling precise analog mode. Needless to say, the twist will be not available for this version, either. Yes PLEASE make a warthog base moutable version. It's a win/win for everyone involved if you make both versions. Their are a TON of warthog owners, that would love to use this stick, including me. Good for warthog owners, good for VKB owners, and good for the manufacturer since they will cater to both HOTAS configs.

Looks accurate to me. The refresh rate of the F-14A/B HUD wasn't particularly fast or smooth...but it was "state of the art" for the era the aircraft was created in.

Track recording corrupted ???
dadunn1700 replied to FZG_Immel's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
I'm having the same issue with the carrier landings. In the past I never watched tracks inside DCS. I would always use Tacview, but with the introduction of the Hornet and carrier landings changed all that. The DCS track recorder is a very useful feature. Been practicing my Case 1 carrier recoveries and, once I finish after an hour or so, I like to watch what I did in 3rd person. 1st landing always works as expected with the track recording, but on the 2nd I am WAY off course and land in the middle of the ocean off to the left or right side of the carrier. Annoying at times because I really want to see the landings I believe I nailed based on what I saw from the ball/tree. -

[REQUEST] F-18 special option "no throttle detend fingerlift necessary"
dadunn1700 replied to -Painter-'s topic in Wish List
I agree. Those of you that have no problem with the current setup thats great and all...but it wouldn't hurt at all to have the OPTION (in the F-18 menu) to have the finger lifts permanently engaged. I'm currently using the Warthog HOTAS with detents. PS. We need a Thrustmaster F-18 throttle along with the upcoming stick. Especially if they want to fully implement the finger lifts that is. I hate using key commands for these high fidelity aircraft and especially for something like access to full throttle range on the carrier. -
2.5 settings and Nvidia Control Panel
dadunn1700 replied to JughedJones's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Nvidia CP and DCS 2.5 From what I've seen, Nivida control panel antialiasing settings do nothing in DCS World 2.5. Zero difference no matter what outlandish settings I choose. Doesn't matter if I have NCP "antialiasing-mode" set to "override application setting" or "enhance application setting". I've heard FXAA works a little bit in NCP....but it does nothing for me as far as jaggies which is my biggest problem with DCS 2.5. For reference, I'm running an overclocked EVGA GTX 980ti SC on an ultrawide 2K monitor with vsync on and a i7 5960X processor overclocked to 4.5ghz. Unless they (ED) create some kind of in-game MSAA option that somehow keeps the MSAA from being applied to the trees (which don't alias as far as I can tell) or HIGHLY optimize the game, I can't use MSAA 2x. Well....I can...but only with aircraft that don't have MFD's like the F-15. As soon as I try to fly the A-10c my framerates nosedive when I have the TGP and Maverick on both MFD's. I've found turning down the tree radius helps ALOT....but I just don't want to compromise with the trees. Once you get used to them at a high setting it's hard to go back down. Probably take another 2x generations of GPU's before I get the power I want/need for uncompromising performance in DCS 2.5 @ 2K ultrawide as of right now. I would try to buy a GTX 1080ti...but I'm not so far in need that I feel the need to get completely ripped off in the current GPU market and I'm not even sure a 1080ti would give me the performance I want at 2K ultrawide anyway. These GPU power issues are also why I've held off on buying an Oculus Rift....tho it's been painful (i want it!). For now, I've basically resorted do playing DCS 2.5 at 1080p Ultrawide on my 2K monitor. I've found I can run 4x MSAA, Max trees, Ultra distance, high cockpit display rez, etc. The only things I still have turned down (by choice) are the Flat shadows on both the ground and cockpit and the "depth of field" (does nothing beyond use extraordinary processing power). I've found, for now, gaming at 1080p on my 2K isn't bad. Everything isn't as sharp obviously, but no jaggies and good frame rates. The picture still looks very good. -
I'm having a similar issue as well in DCS 2.5 with the Enemy Within Campaign. It's the only campaign i've played so far in 2.5. Seems related to campaign triggers in my case. Certain triggers cause massive GPU usage drops and at times crashes. Happens regularly with Mission 7 in Enemy Within where you are attacking the defenses at the CLA compound in the mountains on the Russian border. The one with low cloud cover. After destroying the air defenses then calling in the JTAC to destroy the bunkers (thank God the JTAC finally works again!) I attempt to call in the Georgian forces to capture the compound. When I attempt to do so, I will get a response, but it will also cause my system to crash soon afterward with a black screen. Mind you, the game is also running smoothly until the aforementioned mission trigger is initialized. I have my DCS graphics settings set up to give me a comfortable GPU usage rate and temps never go above 75 degrees Celsius on my GPU. My CPU isn't taxed at all. No DCS MSAA being used. Only FXAA through Nvidia Control Panel. i7 5960X @ 4.5ghz EVGA GTX 980ti SC 16GB DDR4 RAM Windows 7 Professional Corsair AX1200i Power Supply Asus X99-e WS Motherboard 250GB SSD (OS only) 1TB Hybrid HDD 7200rpm (Programs and Games) afew other hard drives not related to DCS.

DCS 2.5 Campaign Problems
dadunn1700 replied to dadunn1700's topic in A-10C The Enemy Within Campaign (legacy version)
Just noticed you are aware of this issue. Please disregard -
Since the DCS 2.5 beta was released the Caucus map has changed somewhat in it's layout. Forests and expanses aren't exactly where they once were. Because of this, missions like the 3rd in Enemy Within (first combat sortie where your radio'ed coordinates for an attacked Georgian base and a downed chopper) have some issues. The helicopter that once went down in a narrow open valley with forests on each side is now smack in the middle of a huge lush forest. I'm sure many campaigns will have this issue following the update of the Caucus map, just letting you know of 1 that I have discovered thus far. PS. Minus these issues, the campaign is INCREDIBLE visually on 2.5.

Bugs and problems
dadunn1700 replied to baltic_dragon's topic in A-10C The Enemy Within Campaign (legacy version)
JTAC still won't work- "Ready to Copy Remarks" On mission 4 or 5 (where your flying in the mountains under low cloud cover to destroy AAA and SA-9 etc. ) the JTAC will not respond past "ready to copy remarks". I've tried the mission multiple times, including flying directly over the JTAC, deactivated all my sound mods, restarting DCS. Still won't work. I could destroy the shelters the JTAC is talking about, which is what I've done in the past but it ruins immersion. I tested the JTAC out on one of the Georgian Hammer missions and for what ever reason it worked fine. JTAC Radio is set to manual, on T/R, and 30.00 (just like the briefing says). Have no problem checking in, checking out, and having the line read by the JTAC...but it absolutely will not go past "ready to copy remarks" phase. EDIT: I'm coming back to DCS after a long hiatus in BMS and assumed this issue had been remedied. Just noticed that I'm not the only one having this issue based on previous comments in this thread. -
Tried out Mustang's mod after performing the DCS update that was released today (or yesterday). Worked fine with the TGP and mirrors. Out of curiosity, because of the DCS update, I retried using the Starway's mod to see if it somehow fixed the blank TGP and mirrors...and somehow it did. Weird... Mustang's mod was nice...but I personally prefer the Starway's mod. To much snow coverage for me in Mustang's...especially for the "Enemy Within" campaign which is what I've been replaying lately. Its 16 degrees above freezing throughout the campaign...but i'll def reload Mustang's if makes a winter campaign where the ambient temperature is at or below 0 degrees Celcius (32 degrees Fahrenheit)....or if I decide to play a "winter version" of the DCS multiplayer servers. Drastic difference in flying the A-10 map of the Earth between these 2 ground texture mods. Really hazardous with Mustang's. Because of the snow it's really hard to see hills.

Issues with Mirrors and TGP with Starway Mod I've used Starway DCS mod for a long time. Quit playing DCS for awhile and just came back. I removed all mods activated by JSGME. Updated DCS to the newest version. Performed the JSGME file backup. Downloaded the newest version of the Starway DCS mod via Starway's website. Activated the mod via JSGME. Everything works perfectly except that I no longer get a picture in the Targeting Pod or the rear view mirrors. Anybody have this issue? I can do without the rear view mirrors, but in the A-10C I have to disable Starway's mod in order to fly it as the TGP is essential. Sucks going back to the original textures after using this mod for so long.

JTAC not responding
dadunn1700 replied to Frost15's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
I'm having a similar issue with the A-10C. Except I DO get the JTAC to respond up to a certain point. The JTAC stops responding once I get to "ready to copy remarks" point. It's been a consistently repeatable issue in both GA Hammer and Enemy Within (the only 2 campaigns i've played lately with JTAC).
