How to set up toggle switches (a tutorial)
Laithar replied to Spy Guy's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Struggling with the launch bar in the F18, which seems to be set up as a toggle switch only. Is there any way it can be remapped as a normal up/down switch? At the moment I have both up and down set to 1.0, which kinda works but it can mess up, leaving it doing the opposite to what I want. -
Not a bug but when the AI Rescue Helicopter returns to the carrier for whatever reason, it lands at the exit point of the Cat 4 and covers the end of the landing deck, making these unusable for further operation. If you bolter, you get your wing clipped and end in the drink!

I looked at what controls are on the warthog compared to those in the F18. I've mapped the TDC slew controls to the warthog front hat switch. I use use the warthog slew button as the ATC engage/disengage. Just a case of making fit what is available.

[FIXED IN TODAY'S UPDATE] Possible hole in Stennis deck?
Laithar posted a topic in Bugs and Problems
Landed on the carrier successfully during a single play mission, folded the wings and proceeded to taxi on the deck. Moved to the back of the carrier behind the four wire, crossed to the other side so that I can line up with the cats when my front end dropped. I thought it was the strut collapsing so I requested a repair. After the repair was completed, the plane was dropped onto the deck and the front end went down again. So I requested another repair and filmed it with my phone camera. Same thing occurred. I wondered if there is a 'hole' in the hidden collision surface of the deck? I have a track but it is too large to post. Don't know how to edit it. Also have the recording on my phone, which can be viewed. -

HAHAHA!! No, of course it is not hard. Doing the Math is the easy bit. MST is 7 hours behind GMT plus 1 hour for BST = 8 hours. Time for the show is 5pm. But I will be waiting from 4pm just in case. I already did the Math earlier in the thread but thanks for your very helpful reply. -

Thank you for your reply. I agree, there are four time zones being used in the contiguous United States: Pacific Time, Mountain Time, Central Time and Eastern Time. But saying that, at the moment there are 7 time zones in effect including two Mountain Time zones being used: MST and MDT. MST is used by Arizona all year round because they do not change to daylight savings. This is 7 hours behind GMT; UTC; Zulu Time. The rest of the States on Mountain Time are on daylight savings time or MDT, which is 6 hours behind GMT; UTC; Zulu Time. I'm sorry if you feel I am making things difficult but this is what I am presented with when I research time zones. Being as you quoted MST, I naturally thought you would be transmitting from Arizona so therefore are 7 hours behind but then you quote 6 hours behind, which means you are on MDT and not in Arizona. I do not know the exact location of where you will be doing this live stream so how am I supposed to know the correct time difference? I want to watch this live, to give 'Wags' and the whole of ED the support they deserve, as do many others. Yes, we can watch it as a recording afterwards but then what is the point of doing the live stream. If the information is not correct, then you will have many people complain about missing the live stream. DCS is the best simulation I have flown in to date and I treat it as a simulation, not a game. I own every module so I whole heartedly support ED and its achievements, including pre-purchase of the Hornet. This live stream is a big event for many of us. -

So do you mean MDT or Mountain Daylight Time, which is 6 hours behind GMT? MST is 7 hours behind GMT. I don't live in the USA and I don't want to miss this. We are already an hour in front of GMT in the UK due to BST. -

I agree, it would be nice if virtual pilots also used the UTC 'Zulu' time. It clears up any confusion especially with daylight savings. I'm on GMT and it is 7 hours behind MST but we are on BST so that's another hour added. 8 hours behind means 5pm for the UK. -
Okay, I think I've cracked it. I looked in a file called options.lua, which is kept in the Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config folder. Comparing that with the options.lua files in the other version's directory, there was a line missing: ["effects"] = 3 so I made a copy of the file just in case and I put the line in. EUREKA!! Dust effects and water effects in 2.5. I tried changing the value to see if it dampened down the effect but it just switched the dust off again. Don't know if it's a decimal representation of a binary number equating to different effects being switched on and off but it's a mystery why my file didn't contain that line.

Sorry for the quick succession of messages but I have answered my own question as it seems dcs_variant.txt was the culprit for setting the saved games folder. It contained openbeta so I deleted it and my 1.5.8 started using the DCS folder in saved games. How do I know? No modded liveries and DUST!!! So now, I have to see what is in Saved Games\DCS.openbeta that is not in any of the others. Could this be the answer?
-
How does the version (1.5.8, 2.2, 2.5) know which saved games folder to use? In saved games, I have a DCS, DCS.openalpha and DCS.openbeta. I installed some mods for use in 2.5 and it seems they are being used by 1.5.8 too. This could be part of the reason why the dust is not there in 1.5.8 and 2.5.

Hahahahaha! Complaining because it means something is not equal. I like being the odd one out but I don't like when things are broken. If I can find out why, then maybe you guys can turn yours off, if you want to? It works both ways.
-
Deferred shading is on. I have a 1080GTX and it is set to the optimal settings as has been suggested in the Forums. It doesn't explain why it works in 2.2 NTTR and not in 1.5.8 or 2.5. There might be something common between the 1.5.8 and 2.5 being as 2.5 was initially an upgrade of 1.5.8 but I have deleted 2.5 and done a fresh install, without 1.5.8.
-
Yes, landing well away from airfields and FARPS etc. I see nothing! :(
-
Maybe this thread could do with being in the main 1.5/2.5 section being as it is nothing to do with the Huey. Is there any way a Mod could move it or is it better I repost?
-
I created a new mission using the Gazelle but still get nothing. Played around with weather (not touched dynamic) but nada!! It is nice to see the grass blowing in the wind but something is weird. Why would my system show nothing in 2.5 but something in 2.2? Why does yours work as long as you don't use dynamic weather? Something governs these things and it would be nice for someone to say, "It's your ***** file, it's corrupt!' or 'You need to turn on ******* in your graphics card settings.' And why has no one else reported it? Because it's my curse....lol.
-
Yes, all deleted and I watched them reload back in, no difference. I did go over to the coast and tried to put my skids into the sea. There was a huge geyser type spray that covered the whole of the Helo...I thought it had exploded but alas, no normal spray at 3-5 feet and no dust anywhere on or above ground.
-
I guess it's broken then. :( I've only ever flew the Huey in 2.5 and because I thought it was a mod, I didn't bother to query it. I can't say I miss it being as I've never had it. Not sure I like the way it comes into the pit anyway...however... Ran a repair, no change! 2.5 - flew in all three terrains - no dust. 2.2 - dust is there so no issues with my graphics settings. 1.5.8 - no dust. Makes me wonder what else is broken n my system. I've had numerous problems that seem to make controlling aircraft way more difficult than it should be. 2.5 was a fresh install. Any ideas?

[REPORTED]Flexible sight conflict with TrackIR - can't use

Me too!! -
Just a simple one for a Monday morning guys. Can anyone tell me why I can't see the dust effect on landing the Huey? I thought it was a mod but can't seem to find it.

Hahahaha!!! Can you get two to click together like a Newtons cradle, or those Klackers from the seventies

Hi I'm looking to get a recommendation for a squadron to join. Every squadron think's theirs is the best but.... Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I'm a 54 years old full time carer, recovering from a heart attack. I've been flying in simulators since I bought The Dambusters for the Commodore 64 and boy have times changed. I'm flying in DCS World every day. At the moment, it's almost as soon as I get up until I go to bed, with the occasional break for coffee and making food etc. I'm UK based so I am GMT+0 but my day seems to start at 11:00am until 04:00am next day. Seems like DCS World is my world at the moment. I own every aircraft module and will continue to own all new aircraft released. My main aircraft is the A10, just because I've spent so much time learning it but I've still a ways to go with it. I'd love to get more proficient with other aircraft. That's hopefully where the squadron training will come in and I am committed. I don't want a squadron that welcomes me in and then tells me to continue to train on my own. I can do that anyway. I expect guidance and sound advice that will reduce the number of times I get killed. I'll put the time in to excel at whatever you teach me. I want to be the best that I can be. I'm not a hot head, I'm not into risky moves that get my wingmen killed so if you need someone else in your squadron with honour, integrity, commitment and dedication, I'm your guy. I'm going through the same problem. I reinstalled DCS World again just before the 2.5 update and I am seeing a definite drift either left or right depending on trim for a set airspeed, like the A10 is balancing on a knife edge. There are no stores and I am not adjusting the throttle, I am just trying to attain straight and level flight. With the Hershey Bar type wings and it's ability to fly at slow speeds, this aircraft should be steady as a rock. Many people on here say it is the easiest plane to trim, yet I am now finding it difficult to get it to be stable. I am using the Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pro Pedals, and Track IR. I have every aircraft module but absolutely love the A10. It flies beautifully but if I need to track a particular heading, it becomes such hard work that I can't do anything else other than concentrate on flying. There is an A10 pilot on Reddit and Quora, who say pilots can grip the stick between their knees and fly it, such is the stability but I wouldn't trust my DCS bird between my legs. I sent a track to support and he said when he took over the track, he was able to get it straight and level. That suggests it is a setting on my machine. He also said it was indicative of heavy trimming, I guess holding it for too long but I couldn't make it any shorter. I've tried just flicking the POV control but it's still the same.
