  1. He doesn't say they were student pilots. The tactics of the USN pilots is questionable. Why would all 4 go after 2 leaving the other 2 free to do their own thing? Seems like a basic tactical error, which they again repeated the following day. The only thing different in the formations he says was the distance between the aircraft. Then for the Tornados to fire from outside the fight would need long range missiles, but the Tomcats didn't use Phoenixes.
  2. ${1} Has anyone seen this video? The RAF pilot claims that they completely beat the USN pilots in a 4 v 4 engagement 3 days in a row 4 to 0 in close air combat. This seems pretty questionable to me, but there were a lot of details left out. He doesn't go into if the pilots were new, what the ROE was, or what the aircraft load outs were. He also says they ignored the long range air combat because weren't a match for the AIM-54. Anyone care to speculate about what happened here? Also, I'm sure you guys are well aware, if you dare to wade into the comment section there's the same old misinformed song and dance that "The F-14 was never designed for dog fighting..." by people claiming to be correcting the "misinformation from Top Gun". Talk to all you "Cool Cats" later!
  3. You say this: Then you go on to talk about the performance on paper. The thing is, the F-14 could fly, and fly very well. The government chose not to let it fly.
  4. That's a strange point, but I guess. In the same way that I kicked Bruce Lee's ass because I am alive and he is dead...
  5. I was trying to be over the top so that people would realize what I was trying to do. Glad it wasn't lost on everyone, haha.
  6. You need to do your research on the clear and vast differences between the F-5 and the MiG-28.
  7. Are you saying you are on a Tomcat forum but haven't seen the movie that stars the Tomcat?
  8. I know dog fights didn't usually last very long, but how long could you keep the burners lit before you ran out of go juice?
  9. I wish GoG would get their hands on that one. I'd like to play it again.
  10. If only there was some way to find out if the data on The MIG is inaccurate...
  11. I must know more about this Hoser! He sounds like a fighter folk hero.
  12. Wow, when does the MIG-28 module come out? I hope they get the thrust to weight ratio correct. And I've heard it has a problem with it's inverted flight tanks.
  13. Sounds like a worthy project. Good luck!
  14. Are you going to build that sucker into an actual throttle peripheral for flight sims??
  15. Didn't that video have instructors in the F-16's vs F-14 nuggets as well? Interesting points none the less.
  16. Aaand that VF-103 pic is now part of my screen saver collection.
  17. I think it would be hard to make an accurate Super Tomcat. Aren't there still a lot of classified features that it had?
  18. You did say, "if needed", your statement was clear to me what you meant.
  19. The maneuverability of a clean hornet is kind of irrelevant when talking about ACM though, isn't it? It's never going to into combat clean, it's always going to have at least missiles hung on it, it could lose the drop tanks though.
  20. I think I heard about that. The Tomcats locked up the SU-27s and they bugged out?
  21. Excellent stuff. In certain circles SU-27 seems to have an almost mythical maneuverability reputation. Probably has a lot to do with the cobra maneuver...
