NOW AVAILABLE: Community A-4E-C Mod

You shouldn't have that problem if you started from an airport runway too. Hmm.. seems like we need some investigating. But its probably an issue with the game engine rather than the module though. We never had this issue before the version of DCS world that broke the SFM physics. -

I think you're doing a mid-air start? There's a bug in DCS world where SFM aircraft will have problems with the nose crashing through the ground upon landing when starting mid-air. Try starting from the catapult and you should not have problems -

Were the A-4K still capable of using Shrikes? I'm curious if you've noticed there's any avionics in the A-4E module that you would be able to comment on. We're constantly looking to improve on the module. -

Thanks for the information about the refuelling probe! That's the first time I've heard of an explanation for the bent probe and I just had to do more research about it. So it seems that all A-4E and A-4F were produced with the straight refuelling probe but were gradually retrofitted with the bent probe after the bent probe was qualified. The primary design of the bent probe is to clear the nose for something called "threat-radar identification and location system" which was also a retrofit. The avoidance of fuel ingestion was a side-benefit. Do you have more information about this? Is this what we know as the IFF system? The only radar I know of in the nose cone is the APG-53 which is the ground mapping radar. I don't believe this is the same radar as these were installed in the production models with the straight probes. Would love to discuss this to figure out if our A-4E should have been retrofitted or not. As for the sidewinders. Our research shows the A-4E was only capable of carrying 2 sidewinders as the outer pylons with not outfitted with the relevant circuits. However, the 4 sidewinder upgrade was common to the M and export models. We would like to keep the module as accurate as possible at the moment. -

You're referring to the throttle position OFF/IGN/IDLE? Yea. Those would need additional coding in the system's logic. I can look into that if you can describe what kind of bindings would be useful. Keyboard or joystick. Increment or absolute position. The lighting control axis should have already been included in v1.3. Are those not sufficient? I don't think DCS natively has support for encoders, you'll need DCS bios for that. Please fill an issue in the issue tracker if you do have some additional keybinds that you think will be useful for everyone. Posting here would be fine but it's hard to keep track for the dev team. We'll take your suggestions into consideration if it is a general enough use case. We understand that there's a number of missing keybindings. Thank you for your support!! Bug reports are the best help we can get right now. -

What controls are you hoping to have? Some controls need to be coded beyond just keybindings. -

I hope I translated your question correctly. You can use this mod in both the beta and the stable version. -

There is a real world problem of dropping bombs from the centreline. There is a minimum interval between bomb drops or it will cause a mid-air collision of the bombs and possible detonation. There are certain release parameters to follow when releasing bombs on the A-4 (this is real world ops) including G-load, speed, release interval, flight profile. It is a common occurrence for virtual pilots who are learning the A-4 to not know about this but I haven't come across the AI doing this. We'll need to run some tests on the AI to see if that is the case. It would be useful if we can get a mission track to confirm this. -
I just tested the catapult logic and it works fine in the latest beta. The key command is LAlt + 1. Make sure you're using the latest version of the A-4E. If in doubt, delete the entire A-4E-C folder and install a fresh copy. You MUST NOT overwrite the file, it will guarantee problems as it doesn't delete the old files. If you think your mission is set up correctly, you can send it to me to test.

Are there any plans to bring back the export space options in the exporter for 3ds max 2017? This would be extremely useful to not need to redo all the animations.

That's an interesting find. We'll have to look into that. I don't recall the code requiring a carrier start. -

Hi Nealius, Yea. The VR issue is on the issue tracker. Unfortunately, I don't have a VR setup to troubleshoot this. I'll try to look for a solution soon. However, there are some people who have come up with a solution for it, something to do with switching in and off of the aircraft. Do a search in the thread for it. The bright spot is the probe light. It's not animated yet but we're aware of a transparency issue with the lights. Working on it now. -

That isn't a bug with the mod but a bug with DCS. But I don't think its a priority for them since they don't have an SFM carrier aircraft. -

Are you doing it an AWRS mode that isn’t STEP PAIRS or RIPPLE PAIRS? It is correct to be able to release from the centre pylons from the other modes. It should not release from the centre pylon in PAIRS modes. That is an accurate weapon logic. -

Yup. Both PAIRS mode will not allow the centre pylon to release weapons. I rewrote the weapons logic in v1.3 to update the operation of the AWRS. Earlier versions had the operation logic incorrect. Edit: There isn't any warning to indicate a problem. This aircraft requires the pilot to be extremely familiar with the aircraft. Do let me know if you have any questions. -
Looks great! I like minimal maps. You did that in excel?!?! How would that work? I was going to offer help in drawing that in a vector format as the resolution of the symbol looks rather poor. But if you can get hold of the working files then I guess that would be fine. But do let me know if you need any help

I recall reading somewhere there is an option in the exporter to rotate the model while exporting so I can model in the correct orientation in 3ds. I can't find this option in 2017. Does anyone know where is this option? I'm trying to avoid rotating the model myself.

I would be interested to what sounds we can get! Are you on discord? It would be easier to discuss details there. I don’t believe the code has been written for exporting yet. I’ll need to find the time to get around to that. I’ll add that to the issue tracker. I’m curious what connection does the radar use and if the internal display still works. It might be more interesting if the original display can be used. -

If it’s still there then you’re either running an older version or you did an improper upgrade. Delete the A-4E-C folder and download a fresh copy. -

Is this in VR or just TrackIR? If its non-VR, look into your "A4E-C/Input" folder and see if you still have a folder labelled "headtracker" or "trackir". -
I believe one of the requirements is to be using an EFM so as to be coding in C++.
