Yeah, I don't have the time or desire to scour the internet for days every time an update for something releases in case I might catch an issue. I'd rather just deal with an issue if it comes up. Thanks for trying to help, though. I thought earlier about trying a rollback on the driver, but since OpenComposite still works and I see no difference performance-wise I don't know if I will. Thanks for the tip on the utility to use.

Usually for me it's less than 30 seconds from the time I click to host or join a server. Only one of the people I fly with has a significantly longer load time, and fairly often he will crash/freeze/stop responding and have to try a second time, and the second time always works for him. It's weird. To rule out it "just taking forever to load" I sat here on another native OpenXR attempt just now and used a stopwatch. After being frozen for a solid 10 minutes I clicked the mouse a couple times, and as usual I got the "DCS has stopped responding" window and closed DCS. I then joined the same server using OpenComposite, and it was 32 seconds from hitting the join button to getting to the role selection screen. Hope all this helps whoever might look into this. I'll try native again after either a Windows, Nvidia, or DCS Open Beta update. Until then I'll use OpenComposite. Thanks for taking the time to try to help!

To be more specific, then, while attempting to load a mission the loading screen freezes, then the "DCS has stopped responding" window comes up, and I have to close it. I've tested with loading a Liberation mission that I am hosting, and at least 3 different multiplayer servers, all with the same result. SteamVR and OpenComposite work fine, native OpenXR stops responding (crashes). I had been using native OpenXR for weeks with no issue. Windows updates and the latest Nvidia drivers were the only changes made.

I can add a log when I'm at my PC, I'm on a tablet at the moment. Where would I find that? As for a track file - I don't see how there would be one, since DCS was crashing as I was loading in to a mission, not during it. I'll check to see if anything was generated and attach it if there is one. Thanks for the suggestions. Also, my signature is now no longer years out of date
-
If I waited until I was certain it wouldn't break anything, I would never be able to update. It isn't possible to be certain without having a test system with everything I use duplicated on it, and a lot of time to spend testing, which is obviously not worth it. Ha! Yes my signature is out of date, a 2070 Super and an HP Reverb G2 version 2 these days. I tried more than one mission to rule out the mission being the problem. I was first trying to host a Liberation mission for a small group, which was crashing. I then tried one of the multiplayer servers on my favorites list, which also crashed, ruling out the Liberation mission as the problem.

* EDIT 2/21/2023 - SOLVED - needed to update OpenXR Toolkit to latest version, 1.2.4 * Hi all, After having DCS crash on multiple attempts to host or join a server, I started troubleshooting. I determined that OpenXR is no longer working, most likely due to the last round of Windows updates that came through over the last couple days. **edit** I also updated to the latest Nvidia drivers sometime this week, when they released. OpenXR still works with OpenComposite, and SteamVR still works fine, but DCS crashes while loading the mission every time if I use native OpenXR with my shortcut. I had been using native ever since it was announced, so my shortcut is not the issue. I also repaired DCS (open beta), I use no mods and have none installed, and I of course restarted my system, to no avail. After successfully loading into a mission with SteamVR, I tried native OPenXR again, and it crashed. I then tried OpenComposite and successfully loaded in, then tried native OpenXR again and it crashed. I run Windows 11, and I can provide any other information if any is needed. Good luck, and thanks as always for all the hard work!

I am having issues and I am not sure what it is.
Eclipse replied to Samiliel's topic in General Bugs
To me, sounds like a problem on your end. Even those I fly with who have lower-end systems only take a minute or two, maybe three to load in. I would either running the Repair DCS utility or removing DCS and reinstalling it clean, with no mods. Also make sure your system's drivers are up to date. I'm no expert so the log file isn't something I could look through. But these are the things I would do first if I was you. If those didn't work, I would back my system up and do a fresh installation of the operating system and reinstall everything. I hope this helps. Good luck! -
I moved from the Rift S to the HP Reverb G2 version 2, and I'm very happy with it. Even when running the G2 at a lower resolution, say 65% of its native resolution, the G2 is very noticeably better than the Rift S. The increase in pixel density (number of pixels in the display per degree of vision) makes a big difference. The G2 is also more comfortable and has physical IPD adjustment, which is great for me. I use it for DCS with the Open XR runtime, and also Half Life: Alyx, etc. using SteamVR. Good luck!

There's been a new flight model in the works that should resolve the physics-defying UFO capabilities of the AI when it releases, as well as updates to the AI itself. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/2021-12-03/

Current training missions with modules
Eclipse replied to CmdrMoros's topic in New User Briefing Room
I recommend reading the manual first on any particular topic, then doing the training missions. In the training missions things sometimes move too quickly or gloss over things a bit. My approach is always to read the manual, then the training missions and supplementing with other resources and re-reading the manual as needed. The manuals are included in your DCS installation, in: "your user"/ saved games/ dcs (or dcs open beta)/ mods/ aircraft/ "aircraft name"/ doc Good luck, and enjoy! -
My recommendation is to take it one thing at a time, and READ THE MANUAL. it is located in your DCS install, in the mod folder, then the aircraft's subfolder, then the "doc" folder. More will be learned in less time simply reading the relevant sections of the manual than by trying to piece things together from other sources. Use the other sources as a supplement to the manual, not a substitute. I have spent many a weekend morning with my coffee and the Hornet manual. It takes time, but you will learn it, and learn it the right way, not someone else's (sometimes incorrect) understanding of a subject. The manual isn't complete and there are a few missing bits or some things that were not translated well, but you I've been able to learn every system and weapon system with it, along with the training missions. After reading the manual section(s) on a particular topic you'll be able to spot incorrect information in YouTube videos and such, which can save you some trouble. And if you are stuck on something, the community is fantastic and will usually quickly answer specific questions. Take it in manageable pieces and enjoy the process! Welcome!

Every time I play DCS I have to go into the control settings in the UI Layer tab and "Clear Category" for the HP Reverb controller. I use a button on the right VR controller for a control in the Hornet, and by default that same button is bound to VR Zoom, which I do not want. So, I clear the UI Layer category for the HP Reverb controller, and my Hornet keybind remains, and it works fine. The next time I launch DCS, the HP Reverb button is bound to VR Zoom again. So, I go in and clear the UI Layer category again. This has been happening for some number of months now, and it may affect more than the UI Layer controls. I only know the UI layer is affected for sure since that is where the unwanted VR Zoom control is. It is a minor issue, but I wanted to report it so that it is known. Thanks!

The curve on the rudder control is a big help. Without a curve the rudder (and more dangerously, the nose wheel steering) is extremely touchy, pretty impossible for smooth and accurate control around the center position. This is true in other DCS modules as well. For reference, I use a curve value of 30 on the rudder, pitch, and roll, which works very well for my setup for accurate control. Pulling the stick full back will pull those nice, big horizontal stabilators up and create more drag, which as you're seeing helps slow you down faster. And as others said, use those wheel brakes with anti-skid turned on. On a side note, I thought I liked less of a curve on pitch and roll until I started practicing aerial refueling... A curve of 30 was MUCH better! Happy flying

The key, like with all other controllers I've found, is to click the top button for the controller and then click "Clear Categories", to clear out all default control assignments. The default assignments often make very little sense, will be duplicated across different control types, and will only cause problems. Once that is done, remap all your axis controls, and tune them how you like with curves and such. Then map other HOTAS buttons as needed. Enabling use of the VR controllers is one of the VR options menu settings - mine is set to only function when the grip buttons are held. I also disabled interaction with the stick and throttle so my VR controllers cannot accidentally move them. Those are checkboxes in the VR settings also. Glad my experience helped some others! Feel free to reach out if you have questions.

Virtual Reality cursor
Eclipse replied to SilentSparrow's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
You can also use the VR controllers in the cockpit, which is what I do for most things. A trigger pull is a left click, a trigger pull with your hand turned so the palm is facing up is a right click. You can also use the thumbsticks to turn dials and flip switches you're pointing to. I also have the comms menu bound to one of the controller buttons so I can pick up the controller and then point and click my way through menus. -
I'm just about there, myself. It's really bad right now. In a busy MP server I wouldn't have a high framerate but it would be relatively smooth and definitely doable, targets could be tracked while rolling around and such. Now it is a choppy slideshow that is impossible to function in, and it was the Caucuses map (one of the better performing maps). I am REALLY looking forward to the long-awaited engine upgrades! Good luck fixing the issues and getting framerates/frametimes back where they should be, devs, and even more luck updating the engine!
-
It turns out that the issue was caused by my VR controllers being "fixed", so they are now properly recognized as HP Reverb devices now. Unfortunately, when this change was made, the "new" VR controller also included its own default control assignments. Pitch and roll were mapped to the control sticks on the VR controllers, which obviously was counteracting my flight stick. I cleared all the default VR controller assignments and the issue I reported is gone.

I have been using OpenComposite for some time now. I just switched to SteamVR and turned "Use VR controllers" ON and tested, and the issue still occurred - after a couple minutes the stick was jerking back to center and not responding properly, as described above. I use an HP Reverb G2, in case that helps.
-
This issue started after the open beta v2.8 update. It seems to happen after the left VR controller is used in the cockpit, but it may be triggered some other way. If "Use VR controllers" is turned ON in the options, at some point the flight stick in the cockpit stops working, as if it is repeatedly getting a command to return to the center position. Moving an axis on the flight stick (the controller) will begin to move the stick in the cockpit, but it immediately jerks back to the center position, negating the controller input. This issue is repeatable, I've confirmed that "Use VR controllers" is the culprit and that switching VR controllers OFF in the options menu is a workaround. Switching the "Use VR controllers" option OFF brings back normal stick behavior. Switching "Use VR controllers" ON breaks the stick response as described above. Sometimes it is bugged immediately, sometimes it is normal for a minute or two and then it is bugged, but the issue always happens with "Use VR controllers" ON. Switching "Use VR controllers" OFF again returns normal stick operation again. This issue is still present in the latest open beta version that was released today. Good luck smashing this bug, I miss using my VR controllers in the cockpit!

I just checked OpenComposite and there was an update, so I applied it and tried DCS again. I still have the same behavior with the grip button causing dials to rotate with no way to stop it or go the other way. I then tried to download the older version using the link you provided, but the link takes me to a page that says there are no artifacts. Is there somewhere else to get the file? null

Will try this later/tomorrow, thanks!

cannot reproduce and missing track file Radar acquisition in SP vs MP
Eclipse replied to SharpeXB's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I have been noticing radar issues also, not just with getting a lock, but also a lot of issues with maintaining a lock. It seems to be all over the place, randomly losing locks when in TWS for no apparent reason, to the point that I am unable to get a missile off. It is a cycle of detect bandit(s), get L&S, DT2 (if there is one), shortly thereafter the hits disappear from the radar. Some time later, hits return, rinse and repeat. This is with bandits hot, within sweep azimuth limits, elevation definitely within the upper and lower limit, about 30 nm distance, and co-altitude +/- about 3,000 feet, up around 26,000 feet or so. Meanwhile, the bandits are spiking me uninterrupted, so I don't think they are jamming. In multiplayer, also; I haven't tried in SP.
