Hey guys. Hope you are all enjoying the hornet. Great job Belsimtek and DCS. So back int he day my dad was in the military working in the aeronautics engineering department. I'd go in with him every once in a while to see the type of work he does. So when I sat in the F18, the first two things that I was surprised about was how close your face seems to the hud (I am used to sitting a fair distance away from the dash in the boeings) and as well the placement of the flight stick. It literally was between your legs and felt like a part of your genitalia. Your forearm sits right on your lap as your grab the stick. It felt like I hit puberty again my hand was right down there. So here I am with a TM warthog sitting on my desk with my arms raised up to raech them and after a while my neck and traps getting sore. So today I though hey I'mm gonna sit right on the flight stick base. Doing this felt exactly like back in f18 again. So I did a carrier landing and all I can say is that it was 10X better. You literally are finger tip flying the stick. I was able to fly with thing with so much more precision. And I found you don't over steer the plane since you are just using fingertips. Almost like flying a real helo. So I was wondering if any knows if there is a chair out there that is designed to hold the TM int he exact same placement as you would find in the real thing. I see some chairs out there like the Playseat but it doesn't look like it would hold the stick right in the crotch. If you have the TM and haven't tried sitting on the thing, give it a try. Feels a bit weird for about 10 seconds but then that's gone. Anyways, take care all. see ya on the servers

I'll just say I'll be playing single player for a while. Every server you go into will only have F18s flying. Too bad the F14 wasn't released at the same time.

Next time I fly with an ex-f18 pilot, I’ll remember to ask if he knows the answer to this.

Here I managed find the plane they were talking about. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reaction_Engines_A2

You're right. I think it was scimitar engines they called them. My bad. I was reading the article in an aviation mag a few years back.

Hi all. I'm not a fighter pilot but fly in the airlines. You gotta remember the compressor in an engine can only handleso much air at a time. If you keep increasing this velocity you will choke the compressor. Ok sohow about just speed the compressor up your say? That's possible to a certain point. The compressor blades get too fast and the tips if the compressor will break the sound barrier themselves and disrupt the airflow. So the solution to extreme fast speed is the scramjet. At slower aircraft speeds the engine operates like a turbofan and as it gets faster it converts to a ramjet. Until a few years ago they couldn't design a particular part of the compressor to withstand the extremely high heat this engine required. They kept melting the compressor. Now I believe they can and talks have been made on making a mach 4-5 airliner. But now another problem arises. They said the airliner would have to be designed without windows because the windows would have to be at least 9 inches thick to withstand the heat. So you can imagine the temps created at these velocities. So temperature has a huge say in how fast a plane can travel. Drag obviously has another say. Wing design is a huge factor in how fast a plane can travel. It's s trade off. You want to carry a huge load, keep a straight wing. You wanna go fast you need to sweep em. F111 is s good example of doing both. But of course look what you have to do to the wings if you want a lot of lift and go slower but need the capabilities of going fast. The thing is there areSO many factors in an aircrafts speed and capabilities.

Yep update fixed the fps issue here too. great job Razbam!

thx will do. anyone else getting low fps. I get a locked 60 on all my planes. i've seen as low as 15 on the ground with this one

Didnt see any tuts in game. Surprised considering how complex it is

Well I guess today is out of the deal!

Quick question for TM warthog programming
chief replied to chief's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
And another quick Q. why is it that I cant get it to press two special keys at the same time. eg. PULSE+HOME+DEL The event tester thinks I pressed and release LSHF -
Not here to talk about the spitfire, which is crazy how tempermental these engines are IF there are simulated accurately, but more so the 109. IMO the AI 109 is BS. that thing is at full freakin power going straight up until a full stall (seen 50kts). That thing would overheat and blow jugs so damn quick it would make your head spin. I flown todays tech engines and seen jugs get damaged by going to slow with too much power. AI 109=BS imo of course

Quick question for TM warthog programming
chief replied to chief's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
@Frederf thanks a million. Although that is total greek to me but I can usually decifer things by messing around. So I modified yours slightly for keypresses instead of DX designations. Like this: MapKey(&Throttle, EACON, EXEC("if(Throttle[RDRNRM]) ActKey(KEYON+PULSE+'h'); else ActKey(KEYON+PULSE+L_SHIFT+'h');")); I think it is working EXCEPT when I turn the autopilot on it doesn't trigger an "a" to turn the autopilot on in the event manager. @rightstuff. What Frederf said worked. I totally brain farted and didnt catch the "y " instead of 'y'. Stupid me -

As well why would this: MapKey(&Throttle, PSB, PULSE+"y"); //RWR OFF MapKey(&Throttle, PSM, PULSE+L_CTL+"y"); //RWR TEST MapKey(&Throttle, PSF, PULSE+L_SHIFT+"y"); //RWR ON trigger this on the event tester...and this is moving the switch through the whole range , not just one click forward -
Quick question for TM warthog programming

I thought instead of opening another thread that I'd just keep posting my Q's here. Hopefully the experts can help me out. This is a Q for the mirage. So I am using the EAC switch as the autopilot ON/OFF switch. The sw beside it (RDR) I would like to use as the SELECTED ALT HOLD (RDRDIS) and ALTITUDE HOLD (NRM). By default I would always like to keep the switch in the RDRDIS position. What I would like to do is when I turn on the Autopilot with the EACON sw, I would like the software to see what position the RDRALTM sw is currently in and engage that selection. I don't want to have to move the RDRALTM sw to trigger an action. Is this possible? Hopefully that makes sense. In brief I want the TM to see that I am turning on the autopilot and then automatically look at which position the RDRALTM sw is in and engage that on the Autopilot. Thanks a bunch guys! -
Yeah I did the altitude thing. Takes a little time to figure where the highest point is but it works. I look into that witchcraft since I do have a second installation that I use for the server. Thanks!

Makes sense Frederf. Thanks very much.

Hi all. From my attached pic I just wanted to place that SAM on the peak of the hill in a mission. Is there an easy way of doing it rather than guessing on the mission editor map? Sorry new to this editing thing and appreciate your help. Thanks!
-
That may be BUT for the initial search with the sckval is the problem. If you place the shkval (the yellow cue on the abris) over the TGT on the abris they arent aligned at all. Makes seaching for a target very hard sometimes
-
Is there a reason why the shkval does not line up with the abris very well. It makes it very difficult to find targets for me. I'll post a pic. in the pic the shkval is point near the target. But when you look on the Abris it is way beyond the target location.

Quick question for TM warthog programming
chief replied to chief's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hey thanks Frederf! I'll just use script to input that. Thanks a bunch! -
I just wanted to set up the ka50 autopilot modes (descent and enroute mode) to the AP Laste (path, ALT?HDG/ALT) switch. So I would like the ALT to be descent mode, ALT/HDG to be basically off or nothing selected mode and the PATH to be enroute mode. Just like it is when you view it on the collective. SO heres what i did. In the target program I made the ALT and PUSH AND HOLD "D" since you have to do that in the cockpit. If I move the switch to the ALT/HDG I made it Release "D". Then if I move it to the PATH I want it to be the press and release (pulse) "R". When I move it back to ALT/HDG I want it to be another Pulse "R". So it the Event tester It works for the Descent side of things but when i go to enroute it DOES work when I move the switch forward and sends an "R" pulse. But then I move it back to the middle I dont get the "R" pulse to turn it off. Appreciate the help! Ok seems like the only problem I have it when I move the switch from the descent mode (the the switch is in the ALT position) and I want to stop the descent I move it to ALT/HDG and it stops the descent mode but now it engages ENROUTE mode because in that position I told it to press "R" but I only wanted it to press R if the switch is being moved from PATH to ALT/HDG.

Well they should listen to the customers. It is a priority for us.

Now an F111 would be awesome
