  1. VR is definitely still one for tweakers and PC nerds (and I put myself in that category) I have had headsets since the Oculus DK1, currently on the Pimax Crystal, which I had shelved until just yesterday when I got the last piece of the puzzle from Pimax for 'dynamic foveated rendering' to work. This improved my framerate from about 35 to 60, which is remarkable. Basically only renders at max quality what you are looking at, which as expected, is a gamechanger. I can't afford a 4090 top PC like many here, but with a 4070 I am not many steps below that, at what I think is a far more reasonable price. Certainly don't blame anyone for giving up on VR, but ever since I first tried it in flight and racing sims, I could never go back to a flat 2D screen. The one exception for that is when I am practicing procedural and instrument GA flight in MSFS, which for me, still does not look good in VR. - Michael Intel Core i7 13700K | RTX 4070 | ASUS TUF Z690 | Pimax Crystal | Virpil/Warthog HOTAS
  2. Lowering my settings will be the only recourse probably as I am not upgrading my GPU again for a while, but waiting to see how much eyetracking DFR helps when Pimax push that out of beta
  3. Having just upgraded rig and headset recently, wanted to compare these and also against other setups. Anyone know any good benchmarks for VR I could use that have listed results online? Particularly something relevant to DCS?
  4. I think this headset will do very well with it's tiny form factor, don't think I will replace my Crystal though. Bigscreen will be particularly popular for those who find headsets heavy on their neck. For me, I was a motorcyclist for many years with a full-face helmet so headsets don't feel heavy for me particularly, also my VR sessions are probably max 1 hour due to work/family etc.
  5. Thanks, DragonJockey but both of those are already turned off in the Client It's not a dealbreaker but slightly annoying.. more apparent at lower framerates
  6. I don't think so, but can't see a setting for that? I have had many VR headsets since the days of the Oculus DK1 but even though I used to be a 3D graphics programmer, I still find the number of places you can tweak settings very confusing and overlapping (DCS options / PimaxOpenXR / OpenXR Toolkit / NVidia Drivers / Windows settings etc. etc. Don't know how non-technical people manage to set up and optimise their VR sets..
  7. Just got my Pimax Crystal (using it with a 4070) and it's looking great so far, though I really need that Pimax DFR release One strange thing is as I turn my head quickly left and right, the render view seems to need a few frames to 'catch up'. So if say I turn my head quickly right, it looks as though there is a transient black area at the extreme right of the view, which renders normally a couple of frames later. Opposite effect if I turn my head quickly left. Anyone seen this? I have foveated all turned off at the moment... Thanks - Michael ASUS RTX 4070 | Intel Core i7 13700K
  8. Thanks Tholozor, it was indeed an incorrect keybind, my mistake
  9. Easy comms is off, but I will check that keybind when I get on my PC later - thanks..
  10. Not sure when this happened, but I noticed when playing the last couple of campaigns that the carrier will not reply to me when inbound. This means when I land I get no LFO grade (no communications) I also tested this on the Missions for the F/A-18 for CASE I, II and III landings, same lack of radio comms replies. Anyone got any ideas? I have no mods installed, just campaigns through official purchase. Thanks for any tips - Michael
  11. Related question to this discussion; anyone know if there is a debug display in DCS where you can see exactly what other aircraft are trying to do e.g. their next waypoint, current target, selected weapons and so on? Might be useful to see if the AI has gone screwed and need to reset the mission
  12. The thing is this is very much a story led campaign (based on a book), and as such it relies on NPCs such as Smoke and the rest of the squadron doing the correct thing. You have to have triggers for mission scripts to progress, and there's the problem because if the AI fails for any reason, it isn't going to work. I don't know what the solution is for this, but simpler objective driven campaigns will always be easier (e.g. pass waypoint X, destroy target A, B and C, survive and land on the carrier). In these cases wingmen are helpful but if they fail you can still progress. Having read the book though, I am still having fun, despite the issues! As a former game designer I feel for you Baltic Dragon.
  13. Hi - bought this campaign and very impressed with the level of detail, it's going to take me a long time! I don't mind the learning experience though as it's teaching me a lot. However I am a bit stuck in Mission 3, I am given references for the bogey by reference to the Bullseye. I have set up this as waypoint 59 but even then, given a reference like 200 miles from the Bullseye at a certain bearing, how do I work out which way to head? There must be an easier way than pausing the game and getting the calculator out to find the new lat and long for the target? Can anyone point me to a useful guide or tutorial for this? As I say, I know how to set up a Bullseye waypoint for this with the correct lat and long, but is there a way of setting up a new waypoint offset from this with the given bearing and range? Thanks!
  14. Thanks, so would you recommend I take the time to attack and neutralize all the AA and SAMs at the dam site before trying to get past them? So far I've tried to get on with the main objective of attacking the 2 bridges, but that's hard to execute when multiple SAMs are launched at you!
  15. Hi, trying to get through Mission 3 - Don't Blink, but keep getting shot down by the SAMs and AA by the dam. I thought we had F/A-18s acting as SEAD but they don't seem to do anything? a single A-10 can't act as it's own SEAD, surely. Thanks for any help - Michael
  16. I've bought the module, which is my first helicopter in DCS, and initial impressions are it's really good, very immersive and great in VR. However, after my initial tryout learning to taxi, takeoff, hover and navigate, I think I will shelve it for now. I don't have a great deal of spare time so will wait for better optimisation (a bit choppy), more content, updates, training missions, control profiles, campaigns etc. etc. Lazy I know but I need to spend my limited free time on more polished modules like the A-10C Tank Killer and the F/A-18. It will be fun though in a few months!
