Well, it's the default map, and anyone will use it, (maybe except for the two Marianas now), so it is basically their showcase map, and should be as good as possible to show off the tech.

Marianas are the freeby showcases. As are the promo reels and the ED favorite you-tubers. Caucauses is the "look how well it runs on your potoato - BUY MORE!!" map.
Adding more power demanding tech is possibly not just about time and effort but also about how is plays to a prospective customer.
I think its day will come in time but I cant see that time being in the near furutre.

Whilst ED is in the business to selling maps I dont see much of a priority case for making a free one much better. Especially one that basically offers something for everyone like the Caucauses does.
I will give a +1 though.

If you watch all the footage you'll also see long sections of it with no lag on the coast as well as with higher frame times (so less fps) over relatively sparse lanscape inland as Cap swings his head about. Caps also streaming, recording and flying on a virgin map, in a Clan server, in an MP environment and no doubt with a few other things that may cause issues.
I still think that your're issue is that you are running your settings too close to the the Vsync limit. No doubt it will see some optimisation, but this isnt the principal reason for your frames halving.
You can take this tip of not but when im looking a settings, especially for a new map, I turn off Vsync to see what the true Fps is, pick the heaviest bits i intend to use with the heaviest module, and aim to find settings that will give me a minimum of a clear 15 fps about my monitors refresh rate. It doesnt matter if Im hitting 200 fps at 30000ft, if im less than 75 on the ground anyywhere, i trim the settings back.

Dear Ugra,
- noticed fps drop from stable 60fps to sudden 30fps near sea side e.g. peenemunde and lubeck, only when flying towards the water….looking in land back to 60fps
- on the border between frg and gdr , one of the fences is being drawn when approaching it while 2 other types of fences are rock solid?(also the shadows appear suddenly and drawn when nearing them)
Maybe change the type of fence?
brgds maks
60 to 30 could possibly be Vsync halving the frames when you drop below your chosen refresh rate. It only needs to drop 1 fps under that to half the frames. As such the actually perfoamcne load may not be very much, it just that you are running the settings close to the bone.
I think I know the fences. Its the cross wire chicken type? Again I think thats more a limitation of DCSs pretty clunky shadow tech.
Could be talking out of my hat on both buth perhaps something to check?

Im runing an ageing 5600x with a 10GB 3080 and thr maps runs pretty well. No overclocks, evertthing at stock save for the RAM XMP type RAM profile to get the RAM up to the advertised 3600. Id suggest uninstalling the mods and perhaps running a repair.
EDIT - I only run at 1080P however.
If that doesnt at least get you some stability it may be a hardware thing.

The lawns in the towns is also not right. It is the generic long grass of the fields. But, I will also admit that this is a pretty small issue, since the map is just amazing.
Sadly that is the only grass you get in DCS. Hellishly dangerous when there is a tiger loose.

I agree with you.
I think the reason (no excuse) for this is, that ground clutter isn‘t placed by hand, but sprinkled across the map by procedural methods. Same as with other maps.
I would love to see this improved (generally on all maps).
I noticed that the scrub "wipe" is absent from agricultural fields so presumably areas can be masked.

Looks great low and slow. Lots of clutter and objects in and around the airfields and heliports reduces the need to set build, performance on my older system is good for the most part and, if I were more inclined to have listened in geography, I susect that I would find most landmarks are roughly where I would expect them to be. Green certainly helps mask the ground clutter and small bush pop-ups. A really good day 1 experience.
Obviously its EA so Im sure there will be bugz and issues but the only one I really have currently it that the colours feel a little over saturated. I think Ugra, should be proud of this one.

yes its under heavy load currently, apologies
Thanks @BIGNEWYNot an issue. Its actually nice to see Urgra's efforts so well recieved. I shall enjoy the anticipation of the wait....

@BIGNEWY am I correct in assuming the Cold War has generated the type of server crashing chaos normally reserved for day 1 Nvidia cards? Its not showing anywhere, the authoriation is faulting, the game cant update my module data and its all genrally very circle of doom.

I likley have missed it but are all those static airliners going to be included as map objects?

I dont think for 1 minute that the map will be perfect in every sense but Im enamoured enough with what Ive seen to drop £220 on a bigger M2 in order ot enusre I can fit it on as a permanent fixture.
The community enagagment from @MAESTR0 and effort put into it has been especially appreciated.

Many geometry issues have been reported by us and by the community which is very helpful. The terrain is early access and we will continue to refine and improve where needed.
thank you
Thanks but thats not what I asked

Great to hear, and we will continue to improve during early access.

Many watercourses have frankly bizarre geometry from 100M tall elevated embankments through to graviity defying angles. Firstly I hope ED were aware of this prior to release given how obvious it is and secondly, is a fix in the works short term?

Yessss...finally the release of the AFG map...
Sad to see that the video doesn't include more low-level views of the terrain (especially in urban areas). Not everyone flies an F-18...
So in future videos, please incorporate more low-altitude shots, as it was the case for the IRAQ map video.
Probably a good reason for that
The Afghanistan update is a really good step forward but it still has a way to go to be without a WTF moment every 5 minutes of play.

I have been very nervious about this but I found the method posted by @VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants really easy to do with the DLSS tweaker HUD override to just confirm application. Thank you.
Now just to pluck up the minerals to have a go at the texture compression thing......

I think it is understandable to have some bitter feeling if someone just bought Flaming Cliffs, and then got the news that one of the planes he just paid for will become free. Especially if the person is not from a rich country.
26 minutes ago, bies said:I've just checked, Su-25 costs $7.49 It's one kebap from a hole-in-the-wall, a guy made you in 10 minutes and you ate in 5... ED products are in reality extremely cheap value / money.
Plus most of the whole games, at some point, goes free of charge, does it mean developers should then return money for all the people ever bought their product? It would be ridiculous.
If someone paid kebap price Su-25, he's going to receive MORE then what he paid for. Paying for an old, dated model, when receiving refreshed one with fantastic graphics.
I get the point - I was intially minded to feel similar (and Im from a "Rich" country). Ultimately though, if the rationale to update the model and make it free to better encourage sales results in a nicer looking module then it is what it is. Sooner that than not having the update.
Now, coming back to Hip. I really feel that there is huge untapped market of players currently out of reach and uncommitted due to the lack of an updated free helo modul..........no?.......worth a try

Can anyone clarify if the redux 25 is to have diffent keybinds or will it carry over the FC ones?

Would have preferred a fully realised SU-25 but I got a streamdeck so at least Im lucky enough to be free of the keyboard gymnasics. So its better than nowt. Much better.
I look forward to seeing the Hip get some similar, long overdue, love.
I also look forward to a newsletter containing "proof of life" for the Afghan map....

I don't know why you say this.People just analyzed that IFE's next module is probably F-117.
I wasnt referring to this thread but the general expression of lust for the Nighthawk expressed in these forums over time.
41 minutes ago, Lace said:I'd love an F-117. I'd also love an F-111. Both very different aircraft with very different mission sets. The beauty of DCS is that it allows the player to experience all kinds of flying, in many different types. It's not all about high scores and K:D ratios, otherwise why build trainers, helicopters, aerobatic aircraft, etc? It's about simulating particular experiences. The F-117 would offer a unique experience within DCS. It won't appeal to the AMRAAM-maxers, and in DCS in its current form might be a bit of an oddball, but with the Dynamic Campaign Engine combined with proper target driven outcomes (rather than the non persistent, story-driven campaigns we currently have) it will offer a planning and execution element which is currently missing from DCS. The small payload is largely irrelevant, as most sorties will have a primary and maybe secondary target. Those dozens of MK82s on the F-111 will likely come off in one pass anyway, so the outcome is the same. I.e a single well planned and executed target run.
The F-111 could be very important if we lose the F-15E, as currently it is the only all-weather strike aircraft in DCS (at least until the Tornado arrives). Although a generation older, and less versatile than the Mud Hen I think it would be another popular choice with players.
If it is either of those I would be very happy indeed.
(but do the F-117 first!)
I get it but the F117A doesnt exclusively bring those elements (DCE and TDOs). Any airframe can. Thats not down to whats missing airframe wise, but whats missing in the core game.
In any case Im not decrying the Nighthawk, Im just a bit mystified at its appeal.

Yeah, I want me an Aardvark! (WhoTF came up with that name anyway???!!!)
My guess is as good as yours, while I believe the reason people want the F-117A, is the rep it got in the various conflicts it attended, the nostalgia of the Microprose's F-19/F-117 and the glorious days of 80s and 90s simming.

Each to their own - but, yeah, F111, 100ft off the deck, no radar cross section skullduggery.

I dont get the clamour for the F117. Flies like a brick, small payload, slow, ungainly, singlerole. Brings nohing more system wise either. I dunno - its a bit Cessna with a bomb.
Now - the F-111 is something I could get behind!

You've made your choice then and thought it was worth it. You had it available for play before others who waited. It's like asking for a pay back because you didn't know the sale is starting the next day. "Who would have thought? It figures!"
I think saying we our choice based on what the pre relaese marketing implied would be more accurate. Had those proven accurate, I would have said its fair. But they wernt accurate. They were grossly overstated to a point where there was no option in type of flting we preferred that could not be bettered, and by some magin, on existing maps. Even Caucauses.

Set Dressing -Well done!
in P-47D Wolfpack Campaign
Posted
Just a little note of appreciation about how effective the set dressing is on the airfields. Adds a nice bit of atmospshere.
May only ask would be to exchange some of those generic 00-00-00 skins for some of the unit specific marked ones but otherwsie....looks and feels great.
