  1. It shouldn't, it'll likely just sit there and do nothing. The file should come as a .zip file, which you can extract. All you'll need to do is place it into the savedgames folder as Skate described. It's a very easy installation, entirely drag and drop. There is no overwriting of files involved, and the mod itself is confined to a single folder in the mods folder.
  2. If you missed it yesterday, this weekend I'm finishing our 3d work live on twitch! Just went live and should b on for another 2-4 hours. See you there!
  3. Hey, check out our extensive interview on the Alert 5 podcast! https://alert5podcast.podbean.com/e/episode-02-heinemanns-hot-rod/
  4. Nope, the VSN F-14, which I highly recommend!
  5. New video out! On mobile so hopefully this links properly :)
  6. Additionally, one model you may see more of is the P-3. I still haven’t decided what comes after the Oriskany, but an AI aircraft or ship is the most likely contender. We’ll see what happens, and of course I’ll still be supporting the A-4 to the best of my ability
  7. Thanks! Although the Crusader is only a practice model that may may an appearance on the Oriskany's deck at some point.
  8. Oh, and I forgot to mention my work on the external lighting last week! I spent some time refining and polishing the external lighting. Here's a quick shot of it with all the lights on.
  9. Well we have been quite the busy bees this week... ...I suppose we could show you something ;) This past week I've been working on the implementation of our panel backlighting. Still working to refine the coloring and tie the panels to the appropriate knob, but so far so good! Meanwhile, Plusnine continued to flesh out our liveries with a new one for the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Check it out! Hope you like this quick update!
  10. Yes, definitely going to be covered in the Air-Ground weapons video. I don't know how comprehensive it'll be for each weapon, but I'll definitely cover as much as possible
  11. The leaves are falling, pumpkins are appearing on doorsteps and here in D.C., politicians are furiously hitting F5 on polling data; it must be October! Caption: In the spirit of the upcoming Heatblur reveal, here's the A-4 in the Danger Zone with the VSN F-14A. Thanks to the VSN Team for putting out this awesome Tomcat mod. Hoping to see our A-4 flying with the Heatblur Tomcat sometime soon! So let's begin with the bad news. Following in the footsteps of flight simulation legends, it's our turn to announce a delay. We are now targeting mid-November as our release date as a result of factors out of our control. I’ve been trying my best personally to keep up with this deadline, but the hardware failure and several real life needs to precedent. However, we have made good progress and I believe that Mid-November is a realistic release date. As many of you know, we’ve strived to bring the most complete DCS aircraft possible, and doing anything less would be a great disservice to ourselves and those that contributed who are no longer with the team. Gos in particular had a very strong position on this, and we certainly have no intention of letting him down. For this reason, we have decided to take our time and pus the release date back. We hope that you will understand. As Miyamoto once said... This Month’s Progress This month there was a lot of progress on several fronts, but not as much as hoped due to the issues cited above. Below are a few important developments which occurred this month. Textures Resident artist Plusnine was hard at work brining out Pilot to life, among other things. Our remaining unwraps are almost entirely on our exterior model, with a few small exceptions also discovered this month. Though the screenshot below may not represent the final product, it’s worth noting his attention to detail in the face. Mirrors One big step forward is the addition of working mirrors. Thanks to some bugtesting from our friend and mentor SkateZilla, some longstanding code issues have been fixed and our mirrors are now functional. I’m looking to continue adjusting them in the run up to release, but this screenshot should give you a good idea of what they look like at the moment. Lights Internally and externally, lights have been partially implemented for some time. However, we still have a bit of work to do. Internally, we are working to setup backlighting for both the panels and the instruments. This has taken the majority of my time and given my own inexperience working with animation in DCS, has been a bit of a challenge. My inexperience working with both 3ds and DCS has been a continual challenge tine wise and this is definitely something worth getting right. Overview Videos If you haven’t already, I would highly check out my first two videos covering the flight operations in the A-4. I’d like to thank everyone for their kind words and constructive criticism on these videos. I hoped to add two more installments before release, however at the moment I’m going to need to refocus my weekends on knocking out a few frustrating bugs and remaining work before release. You should start seeing additional videos later in the month once the remaining work on my plate is done. I’m expecting to cover our Air to Ground Radar and Air to Ground Weapons on these upcoming videos. Startup and Takeoff Carrier Operations Oriskany There are some who may remember a mention of a USS Oriskany mod two years ago. Never fear, this side project of mine is still very much in active development. While I don’t expect it to release until at least Christmas or shortly after the New Year, 3d modelling is well underway. Its progressed quite a bit since then as well, becoming an outlet to model when I’m unable to work on the A-4 or feeling the urge to make new 3ds models. As you can see, there is much more detail here than before, with even more planned. I’ll be sure to start a new thread on this one post-launch of the A-4. Until then, here are a few shots to hold you over! So that’s all for now! We’ll hopefully have a firm idea of a release date and all of the other important details of the release closer to the end of the month. Thanks so much again and we look forward to getting you into the cockpit soon!
  12. Breaking a bit with tradition, we'll be dropping this month's update tomorrow. Definitely no release tomorrow, so please don't read into it too much :) And I'm serious, I just forgot to write our update yesterday Edit: Nevermind, likely out tonight :D
  13. Not entirely, you can actually see it in one of the updates. Maybe the June or July one. Here it is:
  14. The first Argentine one I’ve already taken a stab at. I’d reccomend the second one given it was actually on an E model.
  15. Definitely looking like a spooky Halloween launch in the best possible scenario. My hardware problem along with some other factors may have complicated things. More to come on Monday.
  16. My latest walkthrough video covering Carrier Operations. Check it out!
  17. Hey all, I realized I posted this to reddit but not here too. As an effort to be transparent I'd like to give you all an update on the A-4 Mod videos I promised you. This week I encountered a still undiagnosed hardware failure that prohibits me from running 3D games for more than a few minutes. I was originally hoping to drop the Carrier Operations video tomorrow, however I don't believe I'll be able to finish anything until the beginning of next month. I think you'll all appreciate the next video, the first half of which was already filmed. I'll be taking the time between now and the diagnosis/part sourcing to lay out how I want to do the upcoming videos and get a much better script/graphics together. Fortunately I'm nearly done all of my work, so this shouldn't impact our release timeline. If there are any changes on that front, I'll be sure to mention in the October Update. Now, onto some answers to questions! Here's our list of confirmed US Military liveries: USN VC-7 Tallyhoers USN VA-55 Warhorses USN VA-163 Saints USN VA-195 Dambusters USN TOPGUN Gray USN TOPGUN Green USMC VMA-121 Green Knights USMC VMA-131 Diamondbacks USMC VMA-211 Avengers USMC VMA-311 Tomcats USMC Pacific Missile Test Range We have additional skins as well, but some may not release with the initial release. For our international lineup, we have Israel and Kuwait confirmed (I believe) with several others. The A-4 is also remarkably easy to paint and I think it should be quite easy for others to make skins for it as well. For legal reasons we cannot accept donations. We appreciate your kind words of support though! I believe so. Our resident Michelangelo, Plusnine, likely knows the answer to this however. Nope, short in real life too! There are likely a few steps I missed, such as lights and such, but for demonstration purposes it made more sense to stick with critical flight systems.
  18. Oh wait, I just realized what was actually written. I think my brain jumbled some things lmao
  19. You sure can! We designed it to be as easy as possible. There is even a guide for centering the picture within the file itself!
  20. You sure can!
  21. Read the Instructions and Manage Expectations Community A-4E September 2018 Update Hey all, we’ve got a short update this month on account of having nothing new of significance for you visually. But that’s a good thing, because it means we’re nearly done art-wise! In lieu of screenshots, please enjoy the first video in our instructional series on flying the A-4 in DCS! Instructional Materials Below are a few pieces of info to check out before you strap the A-4 “on” for the first time. Before launch, I hope to complete even more informative videos going forward. A-4 NATOPS: While not all systems are modelled, this manual was our primary source material for building this mod and should be more than sufficient for operating the aircraft. Startup Video: An introduction to the startup procedure and taking off in the A-4. Carrier Landing Video: An overview of a Case I carrier landing in the A-4. An additional video covering both Takeoff and Landing will come soon. Additional videos are in the pipeline, examining weapons use and the air to ground radar. Important Clarifications and Disclaimers Performance: Unlike ED and 3rd Party produced aircraft, our aircraft has not been optimized in the model and texture area. I play on a GTX 780 and AMD 9590 CPU (8-Core, 4.70 Ghz) and notice a slight performance dip between ED cockpits and the A-4 on Medium settings. We’ve tried our best to avoid this; however it has been a challenge. Bugs: We’ve been working hard to manage bugs as we’ve gone along, however there are still some very challenging ones that may allude us post-release. Below is a list of known bugs originating from our bug tracking in Github. Cockpit Mirror material not working (Made a mirror color for now) Interior red light switch frozen Present position indicator on nav panel doesn't align the number wheels properly Huffer isn't flush with the ground when aircraft is at rest (Being worked on, but presents a modelling challenge Nav, Tail and Anti-collision lights bleed through the body Release FAQ Is it really free? Yes, it’s really free. When will it be released? TBD, still targeting the end of October. Where will the download be available? Google Drive appears to be the method of choice for now. The files, which still need to be trimmed, currently sit at 803 MB unpacked in the mods folder with all of our liveries. We may explore dropbox instead; however Google drive currently serves us well in other capacities. A new forum thread includ9ing this info will be created upon release, as Gos holds permissions to this one.
  22. Yup, we're getting close! I'm hoping to have at least one video ready for the upcoming update.
  23. August Update - Release Announcement Hello everyone, today it is my pleasure to make a very special announcement. Before I begin, I’d like to say a few words about this project. Two and a half years ago, I was browsing reddit and came across a concept image for a community made aircraft. I dm’d the author, one thing led to another, and before I knew it we had a discord filled with eager individuals ready for a challenge. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought we’d reach this moment in time. I would like to thank all of you in this community for your incredible support; it’s really kept us going through the challenging obstacles we’ve gone through to get here. Additionally, I’d like to thank our team members, past and present, for carrying this project through. The countless weekends spent fixing what seem to be the simplest things really do add up. But in the end, we hope it’s for something we can all enjoy. With that, it is my immense pleasure to announce that the Community A-4 will available for download this October. A more precise release date and download location will come soon, however I am now 100% confident that we can reach at least the end of October, if not earlier in that month. Please expect there to be at least a few bugs upon release, but that we will continue to support this aircraft past that date. In the coming months, I’ll be compiling videos on the implementation of weapons systems, flight systems and more. Here are some of the biggest features you can expect from our aircraft. Community A-4 Features - Functional Air to Ground Radar - Shrike Anti-Radiation Missile - Carrier landing and faux Carrier Takeoff - Simple Autopilot Features NOT Included in the Community A-4 - Operational Radio - Air to Air Refueling (Dependent on Radio) - Buddy Air to Air Refueling - Non-boresight AIM-9 Launch - F/A-18 Fidelity Carrier Takeoff - Nuclear Weapons Deployment Because this month we have been on vacations and dealt with other non-DCS distractions, we don't have anything substantive to showcase this month. However, we are on course for a successful release in October, with the final pieces of the puzzle coming together in the remaining months. As requested, I've compiled a small list of what remains to be completed. Unwraps: - Pilot - Pylon Hooks Modelling: - Small gaps in the cockpit frame - Pylon on/off for aerobatic liveries (if possible) - Cockpit panel backlighting Additionally, I hope to create videos on the following subjects before release: - Startup - A/G Radar Operation - A/A Weapons - A/G Weapons I look forward to sharing these videos with you in the coming months, as well as the light at the end of the tunnel which can now be seen. This day has been a long time coming, and I truly how that this mod will be something you can all enjoy. As always, thank you for your support through the past two years! I would also like to add just how much I enjoy working with our team. We've been through good times and bad, and it has been my humble pleasure to work with them on this project. Its been a journey that I can't quite describe, and far more than anything I ever expected. Thank you so much team!!
  24. Update coming late in the PM EST today. I’ve got to put some things together for it and haven’t had time over the past week due to a big move and vacation to Oshkosh Airshow.
  25. I'll be sure to include one in the upcoming update on Wednesday (August 1) :)
