  1. Hey Speed, There's some LUA file where you can edit the Shkval speed, try a search since I don't remember the post...
  2. You surely are hitting the "Apply" button at the lower right corner aren't you?
  3. If the X45 you're going to buy is the same kind as the X45 I currently own, it's not twistable!! There's some "finger pedals" for rudder in the Throttle handle, but they are useless IMHO. Also, the X45 centers very badly because of the diabolically twisted mechanism the Saitek guys came up with, I would recommend looking at alternatives especially for a helo sim where most of the input is small around the center position. About the AP Channels, keep all of the mentioned on all the time. If you want more freedom, turn on the Flight Director.
  4. Hi, I have this working with 4xAA and 16xAF as we speak, and associated the config to dcs.exe in the \bin\stable directory. Remember to use the "Force" or "Enhance Application Setting" in the nVidia control panel.
  5. Nice vid! "Flying as best as you can, giving all you've got and pushing the machine to its limits, and still being shot down, many times, doesn't do any good to your ego" This should be written in DCS's retail box cover!! About the sense of speed, a crucial difference between BS and many other helos is that it fas the cockpit FOV of a plane, whereas in most helos you get to see the ground below your feet. In BS, you're mostly looking tens of meters away from you, and yes, the speed sense is not the same... [Edit] Also beaten by GG...
  6. If there's demand, there's always hope!! Shouldn't your monitor manual or the web list all supported modes?
  7. Absolutely, you work like a sniper. I once took out an entire battallion of friendlies who were just waiting for me to attack a town. I cleaned them AND the town. Felt bad... it has been said before but specially for a helo in CAS, you really need a FAC or at least ground comms. On another mission it would have saved my life to know that Apaches were nearby...
  8. I felt so bad running away, hearing them crying for help... very bad. But I gave that Abraham bastard what he deserved!! BTW, what's that russian word one of the units keeps asking for? he keeps saying "send 'vrasnovsya'" or something, they give him an eta of 40 minutes, then I was expecting him to send them to 'vrasnovsya', but the guy keps his composure.
  9. I've made a similar question a while ago with the same results. Probably the ED person in charge of this modeling is not available or russian speaking only... I would assume nobody outside ED or Kamov would actually know about this :)
  10. Guys, thanks indeed for your responses!! I'll continue the journey, I'll try the water and shadows=0. Also I mistyped AA, it's actually 4X, but as always my GPU doesn't seem to be noticing the load. The way to go seems OC for me, as I'll try very very hard to avoid compromising resolution or overall visual quality. Last night I made the Mineraln'ye Vody - eastern georgia trip, at sunset, and the views were incredible!!
  11. Hi Community, I´ve just splashed the cash for two additional 24" lcds, and am beginning to enjoy this new thing that now lives in my house. The panoramic view is sooo goood... I´m a bit reality freak like most of us here, so I went for a configuration that gave me the most possible real feeling. Hence, even though I went for SofTH, I´m using a 3 Camera configuration, with front plus aprox 45º to the sides. This eliminates the need for cylindrical lens correction, and if used at the appropriate zoom level, gives a tremendously real feeling with correct perspective at every angle. Also makes a better use of the engine by not forcing it to render an infinite volume (as is the case when you use +180º FOV). Side effect is, though, that the zoom level has to be pretty high, so I had to tweak some files to move the virtual me´s head a little back, and the HUD looks horrible. But back on topic, with all this and applying all my previous knowledge, I can merely extract 15-20 fps on avg (aprox 10 over cities... which is almost all the time, I´m covering almost a 180º view!!), and to be honest, it´s too low. I´d like to know if somebody else went down this road before, and can help me get more fps. My config below: Core2Duo E8400 @3GHz - 6 GB RAM - 8800 GTX - 8400 GTS (for 3rd monitor) Windows 7 RC 3*1920x1200 - 4x AA - 16x FF SofTH 1.09 beta rc1 in full screen mode 3 camera config in DCS (same as sample only with corrected resolutions) Water normal - shadows active planar - effects=2 everything else on max (will not go to shorter view distance) Thank you!!
  12. Does this work for you this way? I can never hit a moving target with my gun unless I go manual because it always shoots at where the target is, not where it will be. Is there a specific mode for this?
  13. You mean this thread? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=44306&highlight=yaw+high+speed&page=2 Also, the sim is made to an incredible degree of detail, but also by humans. Matt´s videos were made before the sim was finished, so it´s possible that he was using code that was still being tuned- AP authority is a parameter of the flight model. As an example, they spent a lot of time on things like manually "tightening" the individual rotor blades lateral dampers to avoid an effect called "resonance"... or fine tuning the simulated engine to ensure it operates at proper EGT thus releasing all its power when it´s needed... Turn to Target works very well, specially when in auto hover mode, although it usually requires additional help from the rudder to center the shkval reticule.
  14. No, it´s true, the pattern training mission has something slightly different. I just flew it many times, and other missions as well, and I think somehow, the AP authority in heading hold in that mission is lower than in the normal flight. It does not use FD, btw. Probably we´ll need Matt himself to corroborate. Nice find! Sad thing is, there´s no way to replicate what happens in that training mission over to the rest of the game.
  15. With the new trim implemented in 1.0.1, there´s a slight difference that you probably haven´t noticed. Try this with FD off, and see if it helps at all: - Fly level - Press and hold trim, initiate a turn (set to i.e. 15 deg, 30 deg and apply rudder appropriately) - release trim - See the world rotate below you. There is no spoon. - Press and hold trim, level up the helicopter - Release trim Did that help?
  16. Hi beloved -insert your name here-, Oh Mighty Problem Solver I´ve been happily slaughtering virtual people until I reached mission ATO B.P2.1 (where I´m supposed to defend some town from a two-flank attack), when DCS.exe will Crash to Desktop exactly 3 seconds after I unpause the sim at the mission start. Of course I can still fly any other mission, and I changed nothing in my sistem. Please Help! Thanks!
  17. Be careful when looking into the inlet though...
  18. Aaaahhhhh!!! if you see the DCS Wishlist, there´s exactly this from me there! Could you expand a little on what you´re trying to do? adding "true" lights to cities? roads?
  19. And I must say, I keep flying BS and continue to love the terrain, even if it could be bettered a lot in terms of detail (why the heck those city textures are so low res?!?!?!?!), it is made in such a way (the colors, the haze) that the general feeling is extremely realistic. I fly for real about once a week, I can tell. But that said I´m worried about ED giving the new engine low priority. I´d love it if they released some kind of a roadmap with all the features they plan to put in the new engine, so we can discuss and fantasize endlessly. That dev site is awesome! I didn´t know it... nice find!
  20. This is probably the best way to address this issue: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=740496&postcount=2
  21. Conceded, but the problem there was that they went ahead of hardware in terms of raw computational power, i.e. assuming a linear scale up of hardware... and did not preview the multicore frenzy that started when the chipmakers realized they could not squeeze that much more performance out of the same architecture. FSX had this exact problem. In PTaylor's blog (key FSX developer) he explained that when they sat down to design FSX, they did not contemplate the possibility of multicore. Which really bugs me because heck! if Ms does not have insight on Intel's plans, then we're all doomed to hell. They couldn't even react to DX10, there's a nice feature called "object instancing" that would allow them to put many more trees and stuff on the scenery without taxing the CPU that much, but they implemented it only on Acceleration's new scenery (Istanbul and another one). They did not even consider PCIe bandwith while designing their engine. They recon this as a mistake... quite one! And DX10 is a Microsoft initiative!! About Crysis, it was designed from the ground up to be a resource hog, to force the market to update to the new DX10 cards. It was not fully optimized on launch, didn't even leverage DX10 to a reasonable extent (almost all eye candy was enjoyable in DX9 mode -scale up-, and the performacne was much better), but I was perfectly able to play it with my 8800 GTX the day it came out... I believe ATI's unability to catch up with Nvidia's cards at that time made the required upgrade much more costly than it should have, so a lot of people ended up with 8600 and lower cards for a very excessive price. About FSX, I need good terrain to make me spend long, otherwise boring hours in front of the sim. Traffic I don't care much though, but flying over a flat texture is not really my cup of tea :) I personally think that with full multicore support flight simulators will be an orgy of beautiful graphics. The leap has to be made though (and it's not only technical, but in terms of art design as well, an item where ED kicks FSX's arse big time), and I believe a huge prize will be in there for the one who nails an engine with believable low-and-slow scenery. I'd love to see DCS get there first... but priorities are priorities...
  22. This baby here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=37246 Makes a HUGE difference, at least to me.
  23. That would be a very very similar copy yes- but the beautiful part only applies to mine :P
  24. The Extended Flight Manual has beautifully described patterns with drawings and all
  25. Midget-Master? and who would this Midget-Master be, if I may ask? There's a certain business proposition I'd like to discuss with this noble gentleman...
