Having problems with a Frigate and the viggen
kunterbunt replied to kunterbunt's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
That was the hint I needed. Without easy communications I finally can talk to my wingman. -

Thanks Deadpoetic6, missed that. But I also have not used the radio correctly. Still need to tackle how to use it in easy communication mode. -
Having problems with a Frigate and the viggen

Ups..., I will check that. I rechecked. I easy communication turned on. Shouldn't that enable me to talk with anybody without having to know the frequency? Works in A-10C. Does easy communication need to be supported by the module? I flew the mission again and could see in takview that both missiles actually hit the Neustrashim, but she did not seam to have a scratch on her at mission end. -
I'm testing the new viggen with an actual ship attack. But different than in the training mission I'm trying to hit a Frigate, the neustrashim. First, both my missiles are destroyed before they can actually reach the ship. Second, I can't get my wing man to actually attack the ship. He is just ignoring "Engage ships". Tried several times without success. Are wing man communication not working in the pre-release. I do not remember reading that. Any tips of how to actually approach this? I thought that with 1 - 3 wing men, it should be possible. But having only 2 missiles is not enough. I also noticed, that the ship training mission is using "Start enroute task" -> "Anti-Ship", but I was not able to select a similar enroute task in my mission. I copied this mission from an older mission. Can this happen because the mission was created in an older version of DCS?

Just noticed today in the 1.5.6 open beta that my oculus touch controllers are visible as black leather gloves. They where located both at the stick, as I was not really using them (they where on because I used them inside oculus software for navigation). They actually currently disturb and it would be good to turn them off. Not sure if they will be interesting for startup procedures.

SOLVED Somehow it is working now. I tested 2.0.4 in VR and after that 1.5.6 is working.

I'm having issues with the latest open beta and VR. First I updated 1.5.5 to open beta, then I uninstalled and reinstalled open beta. In the main window and in the plain, it is as if VR zoom is turned on all the time. Anybody having these difficulties?

Where did the bass disappear?
kunterbunt replied to kunterbunt's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
OK, so part of the problem are the rift headphones. Part of the problem is the "Hear like in helmet" turned on. Anybody experience with the Oculus earbuds? -
Thanks Maverick I knew that video and there was another one. Still all of them have prod and cons, so it is not so easy to pic the one that is best suited for all kind of locations and situations. But I was more hoping for someone to point me to a thread in this forum that has a list of mods that everybody is using. The must have mods. I did not want to start a new thread that lists all of them, unless of course this kind of thread actually doe not exist. Or, that people write that mods are actually not used anymore.
-
I'm sorry if I'm opening a thread that actually already exists, but it is not easy to find information about mods that is not very old and probably outdated, as DCS is evolving over time. I read several threads and found that a lot of mods are not really essential anymore, as things where improved in DCS, that vanilla is good enough. So, is there a list of mods hidden in this forum somewhere that is still valid for DCS in 2017? Should we start a new one, or update an existing list? Or, are mods no longer needed? P.S. I'm flying in the Oculus Rift. This might make some mods more important and others less important for me. The only mods I currently use, are alternative textures to the terrain of the black see. Still not sure if they are really that much better than vanilla to be honest.

Yesterday a helicopter flew over my house and I noticed how different the sound is to that of a simulation like DCS. All my body (and part of my house) was shaken by the deep bass of the choppers mighty engine and blades cutting through the air. This deep bass makes us predict how big and how much power the engines have. Now, what is the reason I cannot feel the same thing with DCS? Is it my rig or the software or both? I fly with an Oculus rift (the Rift is the reason I came back to simulations, well and because they are back of course) and the standard Rift Headphones with standard on-board sound ship. I guess the headphones are part of the problem, so I'm asking my self (and now you fellow simulation enthusiast): 1- Is it possible to get a similar bass in the sound of helicopters, propeller planes and jets with DCS and the right hardware? 2- Would the new Oculus earbuds help? 3- Are there any mods that might help?

Hi Exigeous, had a look at your video and compared to my system behavior. I do remember seeing similar stutters on my system, but usually in very rare cases. We need to find the bottleneck of your system. What kind of mission are you using to measure the stuttering? We need to determine what is causing the problem, AI, USB, or other things. 1- CPU. I just ran a simple mission and checked. My CPU is constantly at 20-25%. Which is actual a lot, as with 4 cores and 4 virtual cores, this means that 2 cores are fully busy. I felt as if your CPU is getting heavier load when the video started to stutter. 2- Please use right control pause to collect system statistics. E.g. FPS should be 45 all the time. 3- HDD did seem to be bottleneck, as it is not so busy. 4- Are you using any tool like TechPower GPU-Z to check GPU load? 5- Please check Windows event log of system errors that can show hardware issues. E.G. once had hard disk that caused thousand of problems per second. P.S. You are getting these stutters also without video capturing? That can cause stutter.
