  1. Would be nice to see hill altitudes. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1YrRSXJ7RdZSVW0GYTkVG34wJ22MjlebE Approximate path of attack, using hills as cover, easy 1st four ZU-23s and 1st SAM, 2nd SAM more difficult but certainly doable. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1v6gc-HE75lJJhpXuoz6hQ0pHDyyIsecL
  2. ZU-23 stats from DCS Encyclopedia and consistent with Wikipedia. GAU-8 from Wikipedia and http://www.military.cz/usa/air/in_service/weapons/cannons/gau8/gau8_en.htm http://self.gutenberg.org/articles/eng/GAU-8_Avenger Technical report here https://www.forecastinternational.com/archive/disp_old_pdf.cfm?ARC_ID=1459
  3. My observation in Tacview was the A10 had a 1-2 sec range advantage over the ZU-23, however the statistics show the opposite. Effective range of: ZU-23 2 - 2.5 km or 1.08-1.35 nautical miles GAU-8 1.2-1.6km or 0.65-0.86 nautical miles I presume the difference lies in reaction time, but this effective range for the GAU-8 seems quite low. The maximum range of GAU-8 is reported to be >12,000 ft or >2.0 nautical miles
  4. I haven't purchased the new Nevada map yet, but was wondering if the in-plane TAD displays were as good as Google Maps? The Caucasus maps are pretty poor. Is it possible to update the in-plane map TAD display of the Caucasus relatively easily? By relatively easily I presume several copies at variable zooms would be required?
  5. OK bingo! I'm using the mission as training tool. I completed mission objective very quickly (done it before) ... a single pass killed all significant ground threats (4 Zu-23's and 1 SAM) except infantry, so I was looking for easy ways to find other targets. I destroyed all mission ground targets (unlimited fuel and ordinance...yeah I know but its training for me) but finding them took awhile, hence my question. It appears to me that an A10 at about 200kts has a 1-2 second range advantage over Zu-23s so attacking at low angle of attack, and targets lined up very easy to destroy one after another. My question wasnt related to accomplishing a mission, but merely to locate and identify potential targets from the radio traffic. The A10 is a low slow flyer and the in-plane topo maps are very poor in DCS A10. Good topo are imperative for blocking SAMs and pop over to kill SAMs and therefore assist enormously in planning. I found looking at google maps provided much better maps for mission planning, however you make best of what you have, but better topo make for more exciting experience since low hills provide excellent cover which could be overlooked if using only the in-plane topo on the TAD. Thanx again Yurgon
  6. What I'm trying to do is determine what radio calls, give enough information to identify a target for the purpose of creating a markpoint or SPI. My problem is finding targets, and I wanted to decipher radio calls to help create a precise markpoint or target location. Some info is not nonsense, but about dynamic threats such as a moving targets identified by a fast moving plane or ally. This makes this info very difficult to create a markpoint since by the time you find the source of the radio call the information has changed (source plane changes direction or reported target changes direction), so utilizing that info is very difficult. This kind of information is good to give you feel for whats happening approximately where, but not precise enough to nail down a position as a markpoint. (takes too long to find the source of info (radio call) on TAD? then find what/where they are talking about and then enter that info into the CDU)
  7. I know it all has meaning, but in practice what information given in a radio message gets translated into a markpoint or a SPI. Some info is to keep you apprised of what's happening, but not meant to be translated into "actionable data input" such as entering of data into database of targets, waypoints, markpoints or SPI's. If the info is regarding a moving target or plane, you're not likely to mark any location on the map, but may note where and what it is. What are the ways that targets are referenced, that might be recorded? In reference to bullseye, OK definitely actionable. In reference to another planes path, ie 5 o'clock, noted but not likely attempt to record as info is too dynamic.
  8. As a relative noobie to A10-C what radio traffic is just "filler/noise" and what traffic is actually actionable. By actionable I mean a radio call like "Bulls 106 for 18" means the target is 18 miles from bullseye along heading 106 degrees. Now this info can be entered into the tad or CDU offset and a markpoint made at that location....great! But what other radio calls are practical to extract exact information from? I'm only playing single player. thanks LaLa
  9. Looks like the Csar mission in-plane map could use a Google terrain map. Pilot location 42.928988, 44.590613 or 42°55'44.4"N 44°35'26.2"E copy and paste coordinates into Google maps
  10. Looks like the Csar mission in-plane map could use a Google terrain map. Pilot location 42.928988, 44.590613 or 42°55'44.4"N 44°35'26.2"E copy and paste coordinates into Google maps
  11. Thats great Mr Solo! Does this allow you to get by the 26 markpoint limit? Thank you!
  12. Correct! In a mission there are usually multiple targets, once I find one I continue looking for others since often I'm not in a position to attack but can continue looking and markpointing any I find. I want to know where are threats (SAMs et al) relative to my targets, and which way is the safest way to egress. You are better than me at SA, or my approach to assessing the battlefield is completely wrong. I just want to know where the targets and threats are in addition to my "safe" or egress points. I thought this was just basic planning. Separating your flight path from threats and targets on two separate maps just seems to make rapid decisions based on 2 maps a slower process.
  13. It would be nice if the Flight Plan mode had the ability to add and show markpoints as an overlay, which could be hidden by a filter ie something like declutter.
  14. Thanks for the terminology correction! Why it works for me is that once set, I can look at the TAD and see WP and MP without having to take my hand off the HOTAS. Maybe I'm just clumsy but, while in combat I want to see at a glance which way to go by referring to the TAD. For me if helps my situational awareness and is faster than having to constantly toggle between Markpoint and Waypoint modes. Maybe if a was better or had your situational awareness I would agree with you, but as a relative noobie this works for me in the Csar mission.
  15. I found a new way that seems to work for me: Start mission Active pause Set HUD as SOI Set China Hat forward long to select start point as SPI TMS Right short to set start as markpoint A Confirm on TAD Next waypoint using rocker on UFC Set China Hat forward long to select next waypoint as SPI TMS Right short to set as markpoint B Confirm on TAD Recycle thru all waypoints ex WP1-5 now exist as markpoints A-E Now have All waypoints as mark points Turn to markpoint mode Can see all waypoints now identified as markpoints Any new markpoints are targets, so no need to go to waypoint or flightplan while in combat. Only problem so far is the limited number of markpoints ie A-Y Not to bad to toggle between Waypoint and Markpoint mode using the UFC but still not HOTAS available. Is it possible to rename existing markpoint? I thought it was possible but I suspect not since seems number of MPs limited to letters A-Y.
  16. Thank you Yurgon, I should have figured this out, makes total sense. Seems like CDU would allow easier creation of subsets for use as flight plans, since CDU flight plan editting during combat is clumsy, but it is what it is! Thanks again to Hans Solo for his initial response, and Yurgon for filling me in! Thank you very much!
  17. Wait a minute! ;-) When I switch back to "Flight Plan" mode from "MARK" mode using Aux. Avionics Panel, I now see a square with a central dot, looks like a waypoint (square with central dot) but its not selectable with the rocker switch (so what is it?). If I try to add more than one markpoint, the TAD only shows the last one (I created from a markpoint) while in flight plan mode. Is this consistant with what you would expect? regards Lala
  18. Tried it and it works! Thank you so much Hans! Lala
  19. Fantastic Hans, will give it a try, sounds easy! :-) Cheers Lala
  20. I want to be able to view mark points and waypoints simultaneously on TAD, so I can see where they are relative to one another. There plenty of information on how to create a waypoints using L/L in the CDU, but there must be an easier way! My initial thought was to convert mark points to waypoint, but seems no easy way to accomplish this task. Maybe there's a more direct way, help appreciated.
  21. Is your fix still working? I'm using DCS 1.5.5 downloaded your rar and installed it! Now the bad news, by clicking on the Helios radio frequency knob, the frequency changes in DCS A-10C virtual cockpit. OK, somehow bindings evaporated, put them back in and works great!
  22. LaLa says... Thank you! LaLa
  23. Specific instructions I added some specific instructions at the end of the tutorial thread for precisely what you are trying to do! LaLa
  24. I've never experienced this yet, but did you try a reset button on your Helios profile? Possibly the same result, but at least dont have to Alt-Tab out. As shown here: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4313084/Helios_Control_of_DCS_Active_P#Post4313084 Only instead of showing "Control centre", when button Pushed, drag Reset Helios so pushing button will "Reset Helios" LaLa
  25. Change cables I'm sure Capt Zeen is offering a valid approach, I assume you didnt or couldnt try a different cable. I'm quite sure monitor numbering occurs at a lower level (hardware/driver) and Windows merely sits on top! LaLa
