It was great to see the mission unfold for the first hour. For those interested in the mission, check this thread about Grimes' Capturing Maykop mission.

Grimes' Capturing Maykop mission was put in rotation on the 51st server earlier today. A nice crowd joined and within 25 minutes or so blue forces captured the airspace. Events in this server are recorded on the 51st stats page. You can see the results of the battle here. Great work Grimes! Thanks for sharing this mission!

Feel free to join the club Exorcet. You are one of a small group of players looking for a more realistic and teamwork driven flying experience. As some have noted above, the average FC2/DCS pilot is looking for a quick kill without having to spend time on reading briefings and flying long distances to the battle area, let alone hook up on a VOIP service to work with other pilots. Furthermore, they tend to be pack animals going to where the crowd is. These properties make it very hard to fill a server that doesn't have all aircrafts on both coalitions, 5 min flight times to the FEBA and/or AWACS in the mission telling them where to find the nearest bandit. However, though it may be hard, it is not impossible to get a crowd to fly more realistic teamwork driven missions, but it will take quite a bit of dedicated effort. For one, mission design is important. Grimes' Capturing Maykop mission is a good example of where teamwork is essential to the mission. Furthermore, small things like putting smoke rockets on strikers and choppers by default improves teamwork where targets can be marked for all to see. Besides the Capturing Maykop mission, we recently put a mission on our server where strikers and choppers are getting information from a simulated FAC (using triggers) about where to find their targets. Only when they follow these directions will the ground units appear. Besides adding the realism of having a FAC guiding you to targets, all strikers and choppers will work together to fulfill the task set by the FAC. Grimes and I have brainstormed a lot about what can be done to improve realism and teamwork, and we still have a lot of ideas to implement. So the future isn't looking that grim.

Your point got accross Grimes. I have put your Capturing Maykop mission in rotation on the 51st server. We will see how it runs. It should be possible to log some of the game state information and get the stats to record it.

As explained in the rules, light tanks are worth 3 points, heavy tanks are 4 points. At present the T-55 and T-72B are categorized as light, and the T-80UD and M-1 are classified as heavy. However, we typically only have the Ka-50 on the red side (no other country besides Russia owns Ka-50's). So your point about coalitions will probably not apply in most of our missions.

What do you offer in return? :D

Read again Pilotasso, Vecko said: @Vecko, we toyed with the idea back in the FC1.12 days, but decided to stick with the same scores. We may want to rethink it. Besides the point scores, we may want to consider splitting A2A kills in A2A kills on fighters, strikers and choppers (and AI perhaps)....

New Feature: Battle Statistics There is a new page on the 51st PVO Regiment Stats Page: Battle Statistics http://www.51st.org/stats/battle.php Here you can follow the statistics per bettle. It will show the duration of the battle, which map was in rotation, now many points red and blue scored, and who won the battle based on the points difference. Each battle is clickable which will provide detailed information about the players that flew in that battle. For each coalition the players are sorted on the points they scored, and their cumulative air-to-air and air-to-ground kills are shown. Clicking on a player name on this page will provide a list of all the events of that player throughout this battle. Enjoy!

Two more feature requests from an otherwise happy ServMan user. Arbitrary mission path variable Arbitrary installation path variable These are usefull for server admins running both DCS:BS and FC2, where they can have one ServMan installation that will work for both games. I already made the changes to my own version myself, but hardcoded the paths.

SERVMAN Help with guys entering just to kill other friendly pilots!
Case replied to Scooternutz's topic in Multiplayer
Hi Scooter, I haven't played with ServMan banning yet, but looking at the code, it seems you have to add something like: names = name, ucid=ucid, ipaddrs=addr, comment=breason, active = true Where you will have to fill in values after the equal signs, like names = "<51>Case", ucid="0123456789ABCDEF", ipaddrs="123.123.123.123",comment="General noob",active = true At present I am not sure if the quotes are needed at all, but you can test this by banning someone through ServMan while he is on the server and see what is written to conf_banned.lua. See the /ban command here. Let me know if it works. I'll try it later today myself. -
Thank you for those kind words Flanky! MoGas asked me about this already, this was my reply.

DCS Game Log Wishlist The debrief.log written by FC2 and DCS contains a wealth of data. It logs each weapon that was fired, when a unit was hit by a weapon, when a unit died. Unfortunately, it doesn't log some other crucial events or does not provide the information in a usable way. This is my list of improvements to the debrief.log: Add UTC timestamps to relate in game events to realtime Add player names Add unit type (vehicle, plane, helicopter, ship..) Add unit name (Su-27, BMP-3, Mi-24V etc..) Log actual game spawns (when a player actually enters in an aircraft into the mission) Log actual game exits (when a player actually exits from the mission in an aircraft) Log player connection information (IP, UCID) Log actual kills (presently only hits and units dying are logged) Add airbase coalition information Add a trigger action that writes a string to the debrief.log to log non standard events from within the game Most of these issues were encountered when making the 51st stats page.

It is fixed now. Thanks for telling me.

Problem is fixed. Here is the log. Thanks for reporting it.

Neverending contest (military aviation knowledge)
Case replied to Kusch's topic in Military and Aviation
Perhaps you should give us some pointers then? Is this an engine? -
Maybe I should triple the score for A2A kills on you Tek :gun_sniper:

Yes, this is one of the features that really sets the mood on the server, because it forces pilots to make concious decisions about what to do next. You will see pilots doubting whether to RTB and cash their points or whether to try and rack up a few more kills but running the risk of losing them. It also is a great way to stop pilots from quitting in mid-air and respawning when they don't want to fly back all the way to refuel and rearm. But also don't forget the price on the heads of the 51st pilots. Any air-to-air kill on a pilot wearing <51> tags and you'll get double points for the kill :D

Happy Birthday, eh! :drink::drunk::beer::yay::holiday:

Thanks for all the praise guys! Hop on to the server and try out the stats. The more people fly the more I can improve the stats page.
-
Yes, we're running two missions, both with A2A and A2G, and more missions are on the way.
-
This way they will always win :D
-
In principle, yes, in practice, it would require a lot of diligent administrating by the server admins to make it all work. All this is due to the way DCS/FC2 stores multiplayer events, which is much more complex than the mp_logs in FC1.12.
-
Just to inform all that the stats page will be reset per September 1st, so you can mess about until then. Any flights you will have after September 1st will last for a lifetime.
-
We will have a per month and per year stats like we used to in FC1.12.
