Whilst flying the Mi8 in smoke/dusty environment in the recently updated PG map, I noticed that the mirrors were reflecting sunny blue skies and not the 900ft visibility. Just a cosmetic issue.

Hi Guy's Thanks for your replies; Hardcard, yeah that's what I would like to do, but unfortunately I can't get my head around .lua files and MOOSE. Suntsag, what I'm trying to do is have a flight of 4 helicopters land, all of them pick up troops and fly them to another location and disembark together.

In the mission editor I’m able to assign an AI helicopter to pick up and transport troops to a specific location. But for the life of me I can’t get a flight of helicopters to land, allow troops to embark, take off as a flight and land and disembark the troops at another location. Has anyone got any ideas on how to accomplish this? I have limited time due to family commitments etc. What is available is used for learning aircraft systems and flying, so the possibility of me finding the time to learn Moose is out of the question.

Maybe I’m just imagining it but flying the Mi8 today in the PG map post update in VR the instruments appear to be sharper and the graphics are running smoothly, flying low through the cities is smooth as silk, even when I glance left through the side window. I haven’t noticed a difference in cockpit clarity with the Huey. Another note, my autopilot played up during flight, both pitch and role indicators dropped to the bottom, causing huge auscultations, unfortunately even with the autopilot turned off it continued. I tried to find the trip fuse so I could disengage the system completely but I became inverted and simply sat there waiting for the inevitable from 1500m.

This is fabulous news, thank you. Just on another note, has anyone ever noticed that the left seat armour plate does not slide all the way forward like on the right?

To Belsimtek and Eagle Dynamics about the UH-1D Huey
Rabies replied to DeTesla's topic in DCS: UH-1H
I'd be willing to pay for a decent upgrade. I can't understand as to why ED let all the helicopters lag behind in updates and fixes. They spend so much time and effort in developing highly detailed landscapes, military vehicles, soldiers. supplies etc. etc. yet the only aircraft that can truly appreciate that mammoth task, is the helicopter, your F-18 or F-14 at 450 knots and at 10,000 feet doesn't appreciate it. Come on guys, this awesome sim needs some serious helicopter improvements and some new heli modules. -

Operation: LRRP Team Extract Author: Rabies Type: Single Mission Module: Uh-1H A 6 man LRRP team has been discovered at the southern end of the A Shau Valley . For the past 24 hours they have been in on and off contact with NVA regular forces. Their locality in dense jungle and poor weather have prevented rescue teams and air support from locating them. For the past four hours, the team have broken contact with the NVA and reported that they are heading to a river for extraction. The exact location is yet undetermined as they must locate a suitable break in the jungle canopy for the extraction. To make matters worse, their batteries have failed and we have had no further communication for the past 20 minutes. Head to the general area and fly along the river, hopefully they will signal you once you are within their vicinity. Locate and extract the six man team. Its the monsoon season and the current weather reminds us of that. Enter the valley from the north, stay low and follow the river south, there are pylons within close proximately of the river, so be careful. As you approach the southern end of the valley the river splits into different directions, the pylons will head west, you will continue to follow the river south. Approx. 2 klicks later, the river will split, follow the right hand split in a westerly direction, it is along this stretch of river that you should hopefully discover the LRRP's. Land and pick them up. You are going to be heavy, so take off and gaining forward flight will be a challenge. Due to the bad weather, return to base the same route. To keep within the realism of the mission type and locality, DO NOT change fuel quantity and do not use your radar altimeter. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=237406 LRRP Extract.miz

The mission was to try and replicate some of the flying conditions faced by helicopter pilots during the Vietnam War. The US Army pilot training program of that time included some instrument training, however this was very minimal and many a pilot didn't feel comfortable in IFR and so would try and avoid those conditions. My mission was to encourage you to fly below the cloud base at a speed that suits your visibility. We also need to remember that the UH-1H didn't have a radar altimeter at that time (it may have been introduced later in the war). Typically most helicopters wouldn't fly in such conditions unless absolutely necessary, i.e. American lives in danger etc. Landing in tight spaces was not uncommon, the difficulty faced was departing such places with a heavy ship. I'm just setting up a mission that precludes this. It involves dropping the LRRP team at an elevated position. This will be a heavy bird, at high altitude and high temperatures. The approach to the restricted landing zone will have to be perfect timing with cessation of forward speed with simultaneous landing, as to hover will cause rotor RPM to drop immediately. Also your approach to the pad will have to be planned accordingly, if you are faced with low RPM you should be in a position that allows you to apply full right rudder and dive off the side of the mountain and bring the aircraft back into a flying condition. "and something opened fire on me" don't you hate it when that happens :)

Hi I've had DCS for 2 years now and I'm a true rotor-head. It has taken me until now to have a play with the mission editor and to design some missions for the huey. I'm an avid reader of Vietnam helicopter pilot biographies and so I thought my first mission would be a Vietnam like scenario. The mission is designed to test your navigation and flying skills in bad weather, while trying to locate a LRRP team in the A Shau Valley. Any feed back would be grateful. Cheers LRRP Extract.miz

Firstly, I haven't purchased the F14 I'm more of a rotor-head. I was wondering if Jester assists in emergency procedures, i.e. read out the check list for fault finding, such as engine restart? It would be a great future addition if it isn't already implemented. John

Would it be possible to increase the density of white/brown out conditions for helo operations, possibly in sporadic areas of suitable environments/conditions?

I'm not sure as to whether this has already been suggested, it probably has. Would it be possible to have a stand alone mission editor package that can be download say to our none gaming pc's such as laptops. This would enable us to draft out missions without having to be at home, disconnect the VR etc. and then simply transfer the file upon completion. Cheers John

For those of you with spare cash you might be interested in this copy of the Mig 21 Pilot flight operation manual. https://www.amazon.com/Mikoyan-Gurevich-MiG-21-Operating-Instructions-English/dp/1935327186 I personally don't have this module but I do have the huey and I purchased the huey flight instruction manual, its a great read with a lot of the material being able to be applied to the sim. Cheers John

In the mission editor, you are restricted to 4 helicopters per flight. Would it be possible to edit this to increase the number of helicopters to re-enact large troop movement missions, either as flight lead or as part of the formation. It would be great to be able to lead or be a part of a large flight of slicks all landing into a hot LZ at the same time. Cheers John

Apologies for the noob question but where does the file go? Thanks

To be able to lower your sun visor to reduce glare would be a cool mod for all the sim's. Does anyone no whether or not having landing lights on or nav lights attracts more enemy fire at night? If not it would be a cool addition. It would be cool if we could disembark troops quicker, say in a hot LZ. Upon approach we could instigate a key command so as soon as the skids hit the ground, the troops are disembarking, allowing the AC to depart asap. Loosing the tail rotor or tail boom causes troops to be thrown out of the cab during the violent spin and movement of centre of gravity. As rounds come up through the cockpit, they could shoot out individual gauges, radios etc. Evidence of oil or hydraulic leak from the cowlings. John
