  1. I waffled about a bit on which aircraft to use for Phase 1. Going with the C-101EB. Spending time getting it airworthy. Also setting up the suggested spawn sites and flights Delta Mike suggested. I have about 40 hours in the A10c and another 10 or so in the F18C. Time to do this right. A different feel flying the C-101EB without the MFD to see your position. Learning to use the F10 map and Tacan to find my way around. Starting to do some basic turns about a point, level changes, working toward to short trip south and back. Each time I take it up it smooths out just a bit more. I have two Cougar MFD's and am programming them for snap and map view. It will take some time but will be worth it once done. P.S. Your location sounds like a nice place.
  2. Excellent! Thank you DM. Will provide some direction and motivation. For anyone else downloading and setting up, Gass Pass is between PA62 and PA63 just northwest of Nellis. Could not find it labeled on the NTTR map. Quick Google search found it.
  3. Thank you both for the suggestions. I will take them! One more small inquiry if I may. If I want to become familiar with the Cadet 0,1,2,3 training grounds on regular basis as I become familiar with the MP world, where should I set my ME up to do pattern, navigation and other familiarization work on the NTTR map with the C-101EB? I have read through all the syllabus materials on the Academy Discord site. I can see some of the check ride routes there. I also see the Tuesday Night NOOB server from Hoggit. Is this worth exploring also? Edit: A little looking around and I see the Georgia at War Training server is the Tuesday Night NOOB. Guess I'll start there. I really am out in the weeds here. It must look pretty uninformed! I'll get there. Thanks!
  4. Compiling all the components to begin familiarization and stick time with the C-101EB, NTTR, Manuals, Simple Radio, Tacview, OVGME etc etc. I'm motivated and can surely RTFM as I get stick hours in the C-101EB. Might be a month or two, depending on RL obligations and schedule. At some point will just stay on top of Discord and slots to gain entry to the Academy. My concern is; I have ZERO experience multiplayer, Mods, servers, etc. etc. Will there be resources available at the Academy (Discord) to learn these area's or should I be looking to come up to speed on these issues in tandem with my aircraft familiarization, pattern work etc etc. before applying? Thanks!
  5. Yeah... There's usually one... So I should go out and spend a bunch of money on VR hardware and juicing up my system to support that hardware with yet more money to make it work, knowing that a few years from now developers may have no choice but to not support VR, as they can't make any money in it. With all due respect, a fairly arrogant response to my observation. You pass judgement on my choices, as they fail to benefit your choices. Your comment comes across as a bit immature and a wee bit selfish to me. Consumers will ultimately decide. I believe their collective decisions are beginning to be seen and noticed in the market. Your and my personal views really won't make much difference. Early adapters choose to take the risks. Good for them, and you. Passing judgement on those that choose not to... well...
  6. Recent industry stats put VR usage still well under 1% of the PC game market. Until that number is WAY higher it will remain a niche product. Nice, but YEARS to maturing and a mainstream market, if not decades. Many smart people in the industry are saying it may not even continue in its maturity unless significant market acceptance takes place. Please don't shoot the messenger. It's just the reality from 10000 feet. IT's a chicken and the egg situation. Why complicate your life? Learn how to fly and blown S$t up and worry about being cool down the road.
  7. Hipsters and the snowflake generation. DCS is the latest entitlement.
  8. Yurgon, You are always there with a kind reply and helpful advice. Thank you, it is much appreciated!
  9. Downloaded OB. Got logged in. OB comes up fine with my purchased modules shown. I need to know what files and folders to move from DCS Stable to DCS OB to fly in OB online. I have the two opened in separate Explorer windows. I'm tempted to copy both the INPUT and VIEW folders from stable to OB in SavedGames\DCS\Config. Thought I would check in here first before taking the plunge. I have two Cougar MFCD's and a Buddy-Fox UFC as well as the fullTM Warthog setup. I'm assuming my A10C folder in the INPUTS folder will bring all the bindings across? Also, my created missions (not many of them, but it will save some work, bombing target placement etc.). How and where can I get them from stable to OB too. Will both my log book data share across or will I always have two log books active. Thanks!
  10. I just installed and configured a Buddy-Fox UFC box. Appears to work just fine. However, now when I flip the IFFCC toggle during startup I do not get a Bit test. I get a full HUD display ready to go. Did I inadvertently reset something to prevent a bit test?
  11. Received my BuddyFox UFC controller today. Had some issues finding a port that would power it. I had one last available USB 3,0 port off a 7 hub powered hub. The hub would not provide enough amps for the BuddyFox. It looks to be a hungry little gizmo. Would not work at all on a 7 port usb 2.0 powered hub. I crossed my fingers and plugged it into the top of the case 3.0 port. Worked! Looks a bit untidy but it's running and working. Now to learn how to use it. Might as well do it right.
  12. I'm going to politely disagree here. I never reassigned controls from defaults as I have a TM Hotas setup. The tutorials have a mind of there own. Sometimes the space bar will work, most of the times it will not. However the trigger works most of the time. Very often the IP will just disappear and never return even when I take the time to pause after instructions. My uninformed opinion, they are broken.
  13. I’m working up the beginning of the A10C learning curve also. I agree, the tutorials are a disappointment. I bought the Maple Flag missions thinking they would help. They are, but not in the way intended. They are performance checks for what is already learned. Instead of using them mission by mission, which also was frustrating as hell as a lot has changed since they were made, I instead have been watching the ReconStewart series of Basic, Advanced and Tactical Campaigns for the A10C. I set my Surface up next to the main computer A10C, watch a tutorial, maybe even a couple of times, takes some notes and then perform the instruction presented. It is working rather nicely. I’m up to advanced maneuvers now, but I still drill what has previously been learned. Pattern work, ILS, Tacan etc. I have spent some time looking at all of them and feel fairly good about where I will be going and what I’ll be learning. There will be more after that I’m sure, perhaps some of the ED missions, or Bunyaps On The Range, but for now I’m concentrating on the basics, navigation, manuevers and becoming comfortable with all the doodads, thingamagigs, radios, lights, buzzers,. dials, switches and yada yada yada. It’s going to go on for some time. But it is coming. Enjoy it, you’ll be there awhile! And.. Oh yea.... I RTFM!
  14. Wanted to circle back around and update this thread for anyone who may have an interest in this decision for the future. I’m sure anyone who frequents the various DCS boards here have noticed I really ping ponged around between DCS mods. After spending some time in the Hornet with the goal of carrier ops, it became quite apparent I was putting the cart well ahead of the horse. Coming from a nearly 20 year GA simming background I realize I have a great deal to learn on the military side of DCS. Combat related avionics, weapon systems, general vocabulary and terminology (glossary), the sheer speed and pace of jet aircraft among many other subjects. I’m now realizing these require at least a minimum of proficiency if not just flat mastering each of them. So… the past few weeks I have moved back to what originally brought me to DCS from the GA simming side, which was stumbling across an A10C video. My bouncing around the various modules after my initial foray into the A10C can best be likened to my nine year old grandson standing in the hobby shop looking at the models on the shelf. Can we build that? or that? Or that? I know how he feels. I’m looking over at the Spit, the Huey and the Tomcat. I just installed two MFCD’s and a Buddy Fox UFC should be at the front door the first part of the week. I know many here started with the A10C too and have “moved on”. It makes sense to follow the same learning curve, even if it takes longer than what I first thought. Thank You to those offering great advice here. I truly appreciate the time and thoughtful responses. I’m now putting in about 10 hours a week learning the A10C. It’s going to take A LOT of time. There is a deep well of very good training out there for the A10C to get me to where I need to be before attempting carrier ops. Not that the Hornet won’t also have such a collection soon. I know I can follow that trail when the time and my knowledge are ready for it. I am trying to slip in 30 to 60 minutes a week on the dry landing tutorial for the Hornet to keep my head in the carrier ops goal. It’s a testament to DCS how much the Hawg and the Hornet differ flight characteristic wise. In one you know you’re flying a titanium bathtub and the other feels like a sparrow winged kite. I’m sure I’ll haunt the Hornet board and its development as time marches on. It’s a great time to be simming. The future looks VERY promising.
  15. Thank You for the update and thank you for your work. I'm sure it will be very well received by all of us working hard at proficiency in the HAWG. Would it be a reasonable expectation that a release, in some form, would be realized by year end? Your effort on this new campaign for an aircraft that has been out here for this long is a testament to the quality, popularity and utility of the DCS A10C. Kudo's to you for continuing to add to the rich inventory of training materials.
  16. Thank you also! Works. flyingfed... I change the VHF radio to 113.00 and bring up comm menu, go through menu to get a vector to IP OK. To exit the comm menu press F12 rather than the escape key. The comm menu should clear. I get the same readout on the Divert Page, no freq info for Batumi.
  17. Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I do get the same results on the landing tutorial. The tutorial WILL NOT recognize the space bar to advance the tutorial. I have tried MANY times with the same results. My space key works just fine. Other tutorials also will often not advance with the space bar press, but it's hit and miss. Cheers, Bob
  18. Installed two TM MFCD’s and am spending serious time with them and the A10C these past few days. I have read the manual and am watching KMBtkrl’s excellent video series on my second monitor learning my way around. I’m working though the TAD menu’s now. I get level and begin a nice circle bank pattern to kick back and learn. Whenever I press OSB 18 and cycle through various hook options all goes well, until…. I get to “Hook to cursor”. After moving the cursor with my TM HOTAS I immediately loose all coordinate data boxes from three sources at bottom of the TAD as well as having both #18 OSB label, which is “Hook” and the label below it for “Copy hook as mission waypoint”. All five data point displays simply disappear. Cleared out. Vanished. I rerun my mission taking off again, and all OSB labels are back to normal. I repeat the above scenario half a dozen times now with exactly the same results. I don’t believe the TAD is suppose to operate this way. However… this nugget could be completely wrong and I am doing something to cause this. I have spent considerable time going through all OSB options on the TAD post this data disappearance and cannot get the data top display back. On one try the data feeds came back momentarily but as soon as I pressed another OSB button they all vanished again. I’m stuck. What might I be doing wrong? Thanks! Bob
  19. While not ABSOLUTELY positive, I do believe the trade show floor is NOT open Friday. Presenters for Captains Corner are four seminars; Prepare 3D, Jetline Systems, Navigraph. ORBX and X-Plane. They are timed seminars, one right after the other. Hopefully Mr. Wags will clarify the 7th (Friday) only comment. I am attending the Captains Corners seminars, however I don't believe the Thrustmaster, or any vendor booth is operational on Friday. Hopefully I'm wrong and will be corrected. I'm hopeful I could see the DCS new module previews, but would need to know the time as to decide which other seminar I may have to forgo to see them. Cheers, Bob Edit 4/17: I did talk with the admin folks for the show. There is no access to the vendor floor on Friday. Captains Corner conferences are in another breakout room for most of the day Friday the 7th.
  20. Brief background. I am now spending the vast majority of my flying in DCS rather than ‘brand x” which has been my previous 16 years experience. No other flight or combat sim experience (yes… a true DCS noob). A10C to start and am moving over to the F18C as carrier ops is just too much to pass up. My first love has always been the props. I’m fairly confident I’ll begin my BFM training in the Spitfire as I also learn the F18C. At 64 I’m fortunate to now have the time to do both. I firmly believe I should learn combat flying in the props, to understand energy management, before moving to BFM in jets. Anyway… I own a 32” BenQ 4K monitor, which I like. I’m blind in one eye and the one that does work is getting a bit tired. After hours of forum reading and YouTube vids I’m understanding this monitor might not be the best choice for prop MP WW2 online which it seems I seem to have a significant passion to learn. I understand the MP online may not be for months or even a year or two. However, I’m a planner by nature and I’m already specing out my next upgrade. It appears that one monitor may not be the “perfect” monitor, meaning it may be good for instruments but not too good spotting other aircraft, essential to stay alive. While I know technology changes and there may be other choices a year from now, what would you consider a good high end monitor (specs, not brand) for a situation where the emphasis is going to be on A2A online warbird combat that would also be “acceptable” for other DCS modules as well as “brand x” flying? Appreciate any input! Bob
  21. Booked for the weekend. My first trade show in 16 years of flight simming. That's what I get for living in Alaska for 35 years. Look forward to meeting you Mr. Wags! Bob AKA Radial9
  22. Here Here....!!! What he said. You fly down that rabbit hole now we might not ever see you again.:( Another old warhorse
  23. Thanks Lex! Now that I have installed Discord, learned a bit of what it is and how to use it, might I obtain an unexpired invite to that server? If only to observe, read and learn at first. I REALLY AM a relic. Got the F18C installed, controls bound and manuals either printed or handy on my Surface with hard copy in the crapper reading bin. Have 3 new USB MFDs sitting on the desk. Staring the first six feet of the mountain of a learning curve in the face. All in good time.
