  1. yep buckeye, you are right. i guess its just obvious that there are many options to fix the view issue.
  2. Apologies if already mentioned.. A MUST have for me in VR.. Set your "COCKPIT VIEW" controls to something easy to find on your keyboard.. COCKPIT VIEW forward/back/left/right/up/down and adjust when u get into the plane (after hitting num5) and sit exactly where u like to sit!! I have made it a simple habit and it takes me no time. I load in, hit "num5" then "cockpit view back" and "up" a tiny bit. done! +1 on BigDuke with VR ZOOOOOM
  3. I HIGHLY recommend VR in the A10C.. I personally have worked around any issues with finding targets and do just fine! I don't run the a10c with out VR anymore, the immersion is just too good and easily out weighs a few minor issues. VR zoom function really made things work for me.. I am in HOG HEAVEN!! and +1 on the statement above about the HUEY.. The VR really has allowed me the ability to fly that helicopter with much more precision! Same goes for some minor air/air combat as I no longer lose track of my target as easy.. oh and did I mention, flying close formation off the wing tip of someone else is just about my favorite immersive feeling in VR
  4. I really don't know if you can "axis tune" the china hat.. but if you can, try it on a "curve" of maybe 20? so Its not too responsive. Not sure its possible Just had a small laugh..speaking of "importance of rudder" in a A10C specifically, completely forgot; to turn the plane on the tarmac & taxi, nose wheel steering requires the same control surface input.
  5. I can't seem to enjoy with anti-aliasing & Anisotropic filtering on anything but MAX.. I don't like any jaggies! lol +1 on; #3 #4 #5 #6 (max for me, 32g) #7 #8 (never turn "textures" down from HIGH if you can help it. It affects the cockpit big time. If you fly high, you can lower terrain texture a tad bit if needed but that goes against your purpose) #9 Draw distance can be lowered based on the style of game-play.. something to consider. EDIT: I see now, Turn antialising & Anisotropic filtering off w/Deferred shading. (Ill have to go try that and see how it is, I dont use it.)
  6. I mainly play in 1.5 at the moment.. Strangely enough I see targets easiest on the ground from very far away. They are a dark grey blob, I slew my TDP and point track the area/blob; when I get close I can find them much much easier?! It's like I have a sort of model scaling set to "large" but I don't even have that option in my menu, lol.
  7. Question on the Warthog stick. I see the 3 switches on the throttle (thumb) 1)Speed Brake 2)Boat Switch 3)China Hat ^Do any of these, fall/spring back into center when you let go or are they all "switches" (if they spring back to center, then modify one of those! Maybe one of these? "Mic Switch"/"Slew Control"/"Coolie Hat" modified would be a nice fit for a temp rudder control.
  8. Why not do the same thing with any axis binding or switch that won't alter your normal flight controls.. example: Modifier + paddle = rudder and: Modifier + Trim Switch = rudder trim (^^Just an example.. I don't know what the paddle switch is, I don't own the warthog stick) btw, I use my Keyboard for multiple MFCD/CDU/Weapons and more in VR/blind folded basically (never need to look at the keyboard) To make this work, I assign controls that are very obvious and easy to find for my fingers. SPACE BAR and LEFT/RIGHT/DOWN/UP are very easy to find and become very natural once you get the habit down. I then use a simple modifier that is near the same keys to control other things. My point is, make it easy to find and use modifiers. (at the same time, I don't recommend any keyboard commands for flight controls besides trim, which is not necessary considering you have a trim switch) Just some more thoughts to help you! and Pressure? Based on the scenario, just like a car. This changes depending on weather and emergencies. Clear skies? not sure I know what a rudder is! Don't forget you can adjust the "curve" on some settings and it makes it more smooth (depending)
  9. Turning off HDR is/was the way to do this... but I read that some modules (f15c as example) have a glitch/bug with the recent update and the cockpit fills with light and blinds you either way. I think we just have to wait on a fix.
  10. Yes! I prefer the opposite.. point exactly. so if you want russian & metric etc, don't get the a10! haha
  11. @sd I'm jealous man. I wish I had real world experience or could even consider myself advanced in the sim..I can't. As I said, if he was seeking this for a future real world experience, then I am way off base. From a strictly gaming perspective, I have noticed with my friends that have never flown a single thing in irl or game. The a10c in-game is incredibly easy to fly - as in, take-off/bank/land. I guess thats all I was saying. I think its like learning guitar. Everyone says learn on acoustic bc its harder and you will be better in the long run. So you real pilots are 100% correct and I fully agree... It is also true that an electric is easier on the fingers and a faster way to get jamming! so its a trade off on what he really wants. +1 rep sd for being polite..as I am not one to act like I know more than I do and your being civil. unlike some of these thread wars haha
  12. @USMC_Trev I am honestly asking you a legit question from ignorance. How is the L39 any easier/better than the a10c? I am not talking about combat. Just basic flight?
  13. @sdflyer I am talking from a game/simulation enjoyement. Now, if he stated he wants to be a real pilot one day. Then yes I fully agree the a10c is not where you start lol. Too many threads where real pilots and fake pilots (as me) argue.. so I wont. I appreciate your opinions. I would say we are both correct depending on what he wants out of the game. love
  14. I'd argue that DCS is very good for beginners.. all sort of models. Great thing about DCS is beginners and advanced sim pilots can fly the same modules. (maybe not employ the advanced systems for a while but that's fine) The a10/su27 and so on are easier to "fly" than the older prop planes..right? Sure they have very advanced systems but you don't need all that at first anyway.
  15. Very easy. I use the mouse to use all the switches, it sits near my joystick. (trust me, its very immersive) and dont listen to anyone acting like it is hard to find your mouse bc you have the vr headset on. this is not true at all (I find it funny that people can type a novel with out looking at their keyboard but act like they can't find their butt with the VR headset on ahahah) Btw, a10c can have mapped Hotas also! Personally it feels more realistic to flip the switches with the mouse in VR.. kind feels like you are reaching around the cockpit as in real life (kinda lol) on my throttle I have a button mapped to "Clickable cockpit with mouse" or whatever its called. I also have a bunch of HOTAS stuff mapped to my stick also..depending on what it is (mainly weapon systems)
  16. David is right about track-IR.. its incredibly useful for flight sims, especially combat.
  17. Don't be intimidated by the a10c. The beauty of the plane is that it can be as easy and hard as you decide to make it. Even on simulation mode you can hit a single engine start-up key..and then transition into learning switches and such later. -------------------------------------------------------------- The L39 is simple to fly, sure.. but I think we are talking about two very different worlds of aircraft in regards to instruments and navigation. If you want something that translated to other similar western style fighter, like the f/a/18 hornet or the huey etc etc.. get the a10c. If you are interested in the other type of instruments(what I call eastern, possibly ignorant of me) then go with the l39. Please look into and consider what types of future craft u may wish to fly. that should be a big decision on your first learning craft or you will be learning how to operate 2 diff types of instruments/nav aids, which is a handful to do sometimes. Note: As an example. I know how to use the nav instruments in the a10c and I know how to tune all the radio's and read the airport information. It was a good bit to learn but I am comfy with it now. I bought the huey/other western aircraft and most of it is the same, so I don't really need to learn much more in regards to dials/fm/am radios and such.. same thing with most aircraft that have this similar set-up (someone chime in with a specific name please lol) anyway, I bought the trainer plane not realizing its use of the eastern/russian type nav/radio and I was unable to tune anything. It was back at ground zero in radio/nav aids bc they are both very diff.
  18. I fully agree. no need to fly in game mode.. just trying to steer him toward the a10 lol
  19. Don't forget to set you VR "ZOOM" feature.. It really helps see small lettering and targets! Its a little glitchy, so I highly recommend thinking about where you will decide to bind the key. For some users (like me), once you assign it to the joystick, it can't be easily removed. It will also render that key useless across the game unless its used for VR Zoom. Hopefully they will fix this but VR zoom is a huge enhancement. When I need to see the lettering on the a10c hud(floating green words) it is crystal clear! @usmc trev.. That's really not true but I guess its just opinions anyway. VR is awesome in DCS and the only way I fly now!
  20. This joy is optional.. you can switch it to right or left hand.. apologies if already mentioned. http://www.thrustmaster.com/en_US/products/t16000m-fcs-hotas
  21. The ocean will be so full of aircraft carriers in multiplayer on release; it will look like rush hour traffic. It will be the great f/a18 war
  22. Why I make a good pilot instructor for beginners; *Not an advanced DCS pilot and will never expect the same *I stick with easy terminology (partially due to not being advanced) *I run a 95man crew mon-fri (sometimes 24hrs) - I also have a busy life. *The newer you are too flying, the happier I am (no joke) *Not looking to make you an expert - someone else can do that After we set up controls and make it out to the runway, you take off down the runway under my instruction..don't pull up in time and end up in a fiery ball of flames 5ft from the ocean (Batumi airport), Don't worry! Luckily the DCS gods are good and our after life seems to come quick and we are right back where we started! I really do enjoy flight basics the most. If you can barely get off the runway, I am in simulation heaven. If you wreck 10x, I am happy bc I know I get to continue teaching the basics!! (weird, maybe) My favorite is touch and go practice, so fun trying to touch down a few times and having to abort but finally getting it right! If I look over and you are in close formation with me, I will quickly realize I need someone else to teach, lol. *I may have possibly been the cause of a mid-air collision with a student.. haha.. point being; it's all good! To be honest, only 1 out of 5 show up on a "scheduled" training session.. sometimes I am one of those because yea, life is mean and gets in the way. I'm laid back, to heck with schedules.. just "try and try, until we meet up and fly".. that's my extent of rhymes. Just PM me one day if you wish to pursue it... trust me, much easier/faster to learn with someone walking you through it. --------------------------------------- I would like to double down on my beginner/1st module opinion: A-10C *Can be played in "game mode" *Switch to simulation as you feel more confident *Can be fully started with a single key press *Can be fully started like a real a10c (when you are ready) *Very easy to fly *Requires very little run-way *Western style radio's/navigation systems (easier to set-up and use) Good luck!
  23. I can expect and fully understand some push back to females being in some military simulator roles.. bc they rarely or do not exist IRL.. Lets say we had a Navy Seal sim or whatever, so sure. But anyone arguing over it in a flight or combat flight sim is wrong.. In 1994 Kara Hultgreen was deploying to Iran off a carrier, piloting a f-14 tomcat.. sadly she was killed in a accident while landing on the carrier. We have females flying the f35's and really every aircraft, I would bet on. So.. as a simulation, females fit perfectly.
  24. I am sure this is already reported and is designed to be this way or I am ignorant to how a flare operates over water. Night Mission: Container ship sending out distress signal; pirates in-bound on small assault boats. A10C's dispatched for immediate action on the pirates. When we pop flares over the water, the water remains dark. The boats are illuminated but the water is not in any way affected. On land, they work as they should. Is this by design or something that can be updated?
