Su-33 Cockpit Instrument Reflection Mod
WytchCrypt replied to WytchCrypt's topic in Su-33 for DCS World
Just wanted to follow up that I decided to create a new mod that specifically addresses the reflection on the Su33 HDD. It's called, "Su33 Cockpit HDD Reflection Mod" and can be found here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3314230/ Here's a shot to show one of the changes you can make with this mod: Happy Flying! -
I've been flying since the Flanker 1.5 DOS days in the 90's and it seems as time goes on with each release the track system becomes more and more unreliable. This is really a shame because the ability to rewatch missions to study and learn is one of the core things that kept me loyal to Flanker (and the DCS that it eventually became) all these years. As it is now, flying off the SuperCarrier in my Hornet guarantees the track will be a hot mess even if the SC & me are the only things in the mission. I have pretty good luck though with accurate tracks starting a Hornet carrier ops mission in air and landing on the SuperCarrier. I agree with the earlier comment that it will likely take a 3rd party developer to step in and create a bullet proof replay system. Even though the DCS team probably "could" do it, I have the feeling they're spread so thin already developing new stuff and trying to get early access modules into full release that it's just not a priority...unfortunately

Su-33 Cockpit Instrument Reflection Mod
WytchCrypt replied to WytchCrypt's topic in Su-33 for DCS World
Hi, I just added a description of how to reduce/eliminate the HDD reflection on the detail page for the mod. Here's what I wrote: The Flanker HDD reflection is not controlled by the file in this mod, but by the "su33_cpt_int07.dds" file. In that file there's a silvery rectangle beginning at about the top left pixel 970x570 to the bottom right pixel at 1360x875. I hate that reflection as well, and it may not look realistic but I paint that rectangle opaque black and put an evenly spaced 3x3 line grid on top of it. Works great with no reflection on the HDD! After painting that rectangle in Gimp/Photoshop and properly creating the su33_cpt_int07.dds you can install it the same way as my README instructs for the su33_glass_prib_refl.dds. If it's too black, you can always experiment with making that black rectangle less opaque so the mirror-like silvery surface underneath shows through for some reflection. Have Fun! And let me know if you get stuck and I'll send you my su33_cpt_int07.dds -
Hi all, wanted to announce a new mod I recently released. Using Devrim's English Gray Cockpit files as a foundation (and with his approval), I converted them into layered psd files. Each file has a "base colour" layer then shadows and highlighting are applied with different layers. This means it's relative easy to change the colour of your Su-33 cockpit! Just use your preferred psd friendly paint program to change the "base colour" layer of each provided file, convert it to a dds file with DXTBmp, drop it in the appropriate custom cockpit directory, select it within DCS and you're ready to fly. You can find the mod (including detailed readme file) here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3313321/ Fly On :pilotfly:

Su-33 Cockpit Instrument Reflection Mod
WytchCrypt replied to WytchCrypt's topic in Su-33 for DCS World
Hi all, fellow pilot Mike_Romeo informed me that there's a much easier installation for those already using a custom Su-33 cockpit (Devrim's English language Gray cockpit for example). It's a simple addition to the cockpit description.lua and moving whichever of my reflection files you want to use. I updated my readme to include the details and re-released the mod as v2. You can find it at: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3313194/ Fly On :pilotfly: -
No worry, it's all good :smilewink:

Su-33 Cockpit Instrument Reflection Mod
WytchCrypt replied to WytchCrypt's topic in Su-33 for DCS World
You're very welcome! Once I saw how out of control those reflections were I knew I had to do something :smilewink: -
Oh, when I did it the first time in 7zip DCS didn't recognize the mission...may have been because I didn't just delete Config and resave but extracted and tried to recreate the compressed file...
-
I was using 7zip to extract and recompress and it didn't work. Opened in WinRar, deleted the Config dir and resaved and now the mission loads using my current snapviews. Thanks Rudel_chw

Hi all, in chasing down a problem with new snap view settings not working in my old missions, I discovered the reason. The *.miz files include a Config/View/ directory and are saving both the SnapViews.lua and SnapViewsDefault.lua as they were defined when the mission was originally saved. Because of this, any time I refly the mission, my new snap views as defined in my local Saved Games/Config/View are ignored. Re-saving the mission makes no difference. Since some of my missions are quite involved and I don't want to recreate from scratch, I'm looking for the way to unzip the *.miz file, remove those previously defined snapview files, and rezip the file. I've been able to unzip the mission file with 7zip but haven't been able to properly re-zip the files into a mission.miz that DCS will load. I've searched the forums and can't find the answer. Could someone please point me to the way to properly rezip a mission .miz file? Thanks :smilewink:

[DCS: FC3/SU-33] (Complete) English Cockpit Mod
WytchCrypt replied to Devrim's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Thanks Devrim, texture01 defines the center top and bottom fuselage front half up to the nose including the optical/electronic sensor housing. I believe setting that texture to true forces it to load the blue/white scheme defined in the default su33_tex01.dds (belonging to the 279th kiap 1st Squad Navy skin) rather than whatever su33_tex01.dds is actually being displayed :smilewink: Sorry to hear you've bailed on FC3! I still bounce between flying the Su33 and FA-18  -
[DCS: FC3/SU-33] (Complete) English Cockpit Mod
WytchCrypt replied to Devrim's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Hi Devrim, been flying your English Su-33 cockpit for years and love it! I was flying my blue & yellow Su-33 exterior skin and noticed that your cockpit continued to display the pretty much default Su-33 blue/white colour on the spherical fairing which houses the optical-electronic sighting system. Even though the plane has painted that exterior housing yellow, the cockpit view still shows it as blue/white. Found out the reason is the line in your cockpit description.lua, "{"su33_tex01", 0, "su33_tex01", true};". I commented that out and now the fairing displays the exterior color of whatever Su-33 skin I fly as expected (example below). Not sure if there are other reasons you had that line in the cockpit description.lua but I haven't noticed any adverse issues after commenting it out. If you had a specific other purpose for including that line I'd love to learn why :smilewink: -
After several months away from flying the Su-33 I returned to find a strange condition where the cockpit instrument reflections seemed significantly stronger, and to me, very distracting making the instruments difficult to read. I found a thread where this condition was reported for several aircraft and ED responded they're considering making reflection an option. Meanwhile, I've created a mod for the Su-33 with 4 new cockpit instrument reflection intensities ranging from the current highly reflective to no reflections. You can find the mod at: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3313194/ Here's a couple shots of the extremes, no reflections vs the current high reflections...

Hi all, just wanted to post a thread announcing my latest user file Su33 livery. This one is fictional and based on the work of early 20th century American horror writer H.P. Lovecraft. The plane includes several Lovecraft related markings including a Cthulhu logo on the nose, wings, tail & pilot helmet, squadron name of "The Fighting Cephalopods", "ARKHAM NAVY" registration, and decals for Miskatonic Engineering, Necronomicon Propulsion, and of course Lovecraft Aerospace. You can check it out at: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3312978/ It's closely related to my Arkham Navy F/A-18C Hornet found at: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3308190/ Hope you like it :smilewink:

Fantastic, couldn't locate any other threads. Thanks btd I'll give it a go :smilewink:

Hi all, I'd like to replace the Russian voice messages/warnings/etc I hear in the cockpit to English. I saw a couple old user file mods that do this (specifically Kozzs_-20dB_RUS_Betty_Common & DTWDcns_Basic_zrMake_my_god-damn_game_speak_Englishxc_MOD_-_Russian_Accents_+_Betty), but they seem to depend on a DCS file structure of DCS World/sounds/speech and it appears that is no longer the way sounds are stored so I don't think they'll work. It seems the new structure is DCS World/Sounds.edc/. Am I missing something obvious here or is there no way to change the sound files from Russian to English? Thanks!

Hi all, I've reviewed the entire sticky "Tutorial: Introduction to Lua Scripting" thread and it seems promising, but before I head down that rabbit hole I thought it wise to determine if my goal is even possible... Simply put, is there a way to capture a keyboard entry, test what key was pressed and display a message on screen? For example, I'm flying the Su-33 which has a non clickable cockpit and therefore no clickabledata.lua file (which means the existing X:Cockpit Argument in Range() conditional unfortunately doesn't work...spent 2 days down that rabbit hole :smilewink: Is there a way through lua scripting that I can capture pressing the "T" key, and display a simple "You have enabled wingtip smoke" message? I'm thinking it would be a matter of tapping into the event handler and listening for that "T" key but don't know if that's possible. Thanks! Edit: I can't believe I called it "Lui" in the thread title not "Lua"...and I can't edit it...oh well

Help displaying message on cockpit control change
WytchCrypt replied to WytchCrypt's topic in Mission Editor
Yes, the Set Command( 78 ) and other argument ID's work fine with the Su-33! I'm able to toggle on internal and external lights, smoke, flaps, gear, etc...anything that can be triggered with a keyboard as defined in it's Options->Controls screen. I'm not familiar with X: Start Wait User Response...just looked it up and it's close to what I want, but only listens for spacebar or backspace keys. What I really need is a conditional that's purpose is to capture keyboard input & test for what specific key was pressed. Then I can translate that to a "show message" action :smilewink: -

Ya, that's the conclusion I came to when I realized the Su-33 had no clickabledata.lua :( -
Mission Building - Can you pre-set aircraft parameters?
WytchCrypt replied to orcrist's topic in Mission Editor
I do it both when I fly the Hornet and the Su33. It's a great way to initialize my aircraft to all the settings I want to begin a mission with (interior lights on high, exterior lights on, etc). In the Hornet I even use it to press the LDDI & RDDI buttons to setup waypoint mode on the left and radar mode on the right etc. Once I configure all my startup commands I set up template missions for the Caucasus, Nevada & Normandy then build my regular missions on top of them. Discovering the command ID for a given option really isn't that hard...you just change line 4 of the \Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\MissionEditor\MissionEditor.lua file to true. Then start DCS and open the options->controls screen for your specific aircraft. Hover your mouse over any command and the popup tooltip will give you the command id... Anyway, here's a thread that explains how to make it happen :smilewink: https://forums.eagle.ru/forum/englis...-mission-start -
Help displaying message on cockpit control change
WytchCrypt replied to WytchCrypt's topic in Mission Editor
What I meant was the display of Message, "smoke is on" isn't displaying no matter what min and max settings I try. Did more research and found a very strange thing. For the FA-18C, the code to trigger the landing gear command is id 68 (found by enabling "options_add_command_to_tooltip" line in MissionEditor.lua and observing command in FA-18C Options->Controls screen). When I begin a mission by triggering an execution of "X: set command ( 68 )" it does in fact lower the gear. But if I try to display a message of, "hey the gear is down" by next checking the condition "X: Cockpit argument in range (68,0,0.95,"")" it doesn't display. I then referenced the Mods/aircraft/FA-18C/Cockpit/Scripts/clickabledata.lua and found it defines a code of 226 for "LDG_Gear_Control_Handle". When I change my condition to ""X: Cockpit argument in range (226,0,0.95,"")" the message displays as expected! That's great for the Hornet, but I'm still stuck on the Su-33. I'm wondering if since it doesn't have a clickable cockpit (and therefore no, "clickabledata.lua") that there's no way to examine the "X: Cockpit argument in range()" condition for any of it's cockpit settings? If I'm wrong, where is the file that defines the cockpit codes for the Su-33? I've looked everywhere examining several *.lua files but none seem to be the correct one. I have a feeling this is in fact the case and that this type of logic won't work for the Su-33 (or anything without a clickable cockpit). At this point, the question is now is there a way to popup a message based on the state of a cockpit control of the Su-33? For example, if I hit "T" to enable smoke, is there a way to popup a message? -
Hi all :helpsmilie: I've been using triggers to successfully set many cockpit switches and knobs on mission entry. Works great but there's something related I can't seem to get to work. I'd like to display a message when a specific cockpit control is activated/deactivated. For example, let's say I'm flying my Su-33 and want to display a message when I toggle the wingtip smoke. The ID of toggling wingtip smoke for the Su-33 is 78. I've been trying: Trigger, "Switched Condition" Condition, "X: Cockpit argument in range (78,0,1,"") Action, "Message to All (smoke is on,10,false,0) I've been trying several variations of this but can't seem to get it to work. Would anyone out there be so kind as to give me an example of how I could achieve this? Thanks!
-
Agreed! Thanks for documenting your work on this topic, I was originally trying to get my flight controller to send all these commands with what I called a "Mission Start" button, but this is a much more elegant solution  I also try to use descriptive titles for my triggers and have a simple notepad file I wrote up with details on each startup trigger and what codes it requires (actually I write up my own procedures for everything I do in DCS so if I'm away for a few months I can pick up where I left off, but that's another story). The fanciest thing I do with startup triggers is enabling the AUTO waypoint mode on my left DDI at the start of the mission. It requires a simple, "X: cockpit perform clickable action (35,3026,1,"")". Unfortunately, you can't turn it on if the plane is at a complete stop so a MISSION START trigger does nothing. To handle that case I use a SWITCHED CONDITION -> Units Speed Higher Than 50kts...when my Hornet crosses 50kts the AUTO is caged. OTOH, if the plane begins the mission in the air the SWITCHED CONDITION is ignored so a MISSION START trigger does work. I just run the MISSION START command first which works if the plane is already in the air, then follow it with a SWITCH CONDITION command which enables AUTO when taking off but is ignored if already in the air :smilewink:

Just wanted to point out that besides being able to toggle on/off switches using the MISSION START trigger and X:Set Command Action(), you can also control rotary knobs like cockpit light dimmers! For example, changing line 4 of DCS/MissionEditor/MissionEditor.lua from false to true and viewing the tooltip popups on the Options->Control screen as described by Rudel_chw earlier in the thread allowed me to find that the F18 Console Light Dimmer was cockpit id 9, button press 3010. To change this dimmer rotary knob I added a MISSION START Trigger which executes the command: X: cockpit perform clickable action (9,3010,1,"") (note the "1" means move the knob +1 increment). I figured that the command would need to be repeated many times to move the dimmer knob throughout it's range of motion. Turns out it takes about 36 increments to turn the knob from completely off to completely on so I just repeat the command 36 times. Turning one of these cockpit light dimmer knobs halfway up requires repeating the command about 18 times. I'm also using the MISSION START trigger to setup my LDDI and RDDI the way I like by finding the codes for pushing the required LDDI & RDDI PB (push buttons) and also executing them with the X: cockpit perform clickable action() command. Now I'm able to begin every mission with my F18 configured just the way I like
