  1. I’ve seen several pilots tried DCS planes just to express their dissatisfaction with flight model. While I understand limitation of flight simulation to me F-14 flight model was exaggerated mess from day one :) My TM Warthog doesn’t deliver anything that I can relate to real life stick and rudder flying LOL May be in universe of hardcore simmer it’s something that make sense, but in my case I’m totally frustrated. 2. Silly question :music_whistling: I've been watching videos where I can hear carrier ATC calls "maverick", but when I do carrier recovery mission no one say a thing! Am I doing something wrong or is there a mode for this?
  3. Yes I watched his channel - it is very informative. However, I’m planning to occupy front seat only. So my interest is in emptying Jester AI in the right way Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Does anyone know a link for tutorial on how to use Jester AI to lock and launch Sparrow and Phoenix? So far I only found ACM and AIM-9 video tutorial. Thanks!
  5. I'll try that thanks!
  6. Thanks I'm aware of that, but for some reason when I follow it I ends up missing wires all together
  7. First of al I absolutely love F-18. What a great aircraft model even in early stage. My biggest kick at the moment is a carrier landing. I'm not quite proficient, but I slowly getting hold of it. I try to stick to 8 degrees AoA and get velocity vector around around first or second wire. I have managed to land several times as well as to produce couple bolters. Now, here where things get interesting. I tried to analyze my landing in replay. Equally bad :music_whistling: landings look the same. but is some cases I catch the wire and in some I don't. Initially I thought that aircraft bounces at touch down, but replay didn't show that. Than I figured may be hook bouncing - again it was not shown during replay. Basically to my understand two equally (no super great landing) but on correct spot can have trap and bolter. I don't really understand the difference ? :pilotfly: So can someone can explain me the arresting wire modeling and variables that can play a role? It seems like replay doesn't help much to figure that the difference between trap and bolter. In both cases I get to the correct spot to catch the wire :helpsmilie:
  8. When I read about it, it was referred as such in article. So I sell for what I buy :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Isn’t new NAVY landing system called “magic carpet”? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. There was South Vietnamese pilot who landed Cessna L-19 with his family on the deck of CV41 Midway during evacuation of Saigon. Now that what I call short field landing - not stinky recovery. No wires, no meatball just plain stick and rudder skills :) Seriously guys please cool down. We all have a productive discussion here. By the way F-18 is my all time favorite. Can anyone give me a ride in it? I see them a lot when I fly around Miramar Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I have share fare of flying twins as well. And more than often I care about approach speed since some instrument approaches require time on the approach. In turn approach speed (usually 1.8 Vs0) puts aircraft in different categories of approach speed bracket which may yield different different minimums on IAP. (Not to mention that in beautiful world of congested airspace where ATC often request reduce or increase approach speed ) By the way my friend who works for American Airlines. He used to drive MD82 before airline retired them all and switched to 737 NG. I believe AA requires pilots to shoots approaches manually/ or semiautomatic with autothrottle in order to save big bucks on certification for CAT III approaches. Captain side equipped with HUD while FO doesn't have it. For low vis approaches AA requires captain to use HUD and follows flight directors that provide glideslope solution all way to the minimums. According my friend he must be fully configured for landing before certain altitude and maintain Vref through the whole approach. Although flight detectors do provide nice pitch solution for given airspeed vs glideslope it is not quite AOA riding . 737 has noticeable lag from throttle input, so maintain altitude with thrust is too much hustle. So to sum up. I don't know really know what to call that type of approaches I guess they could be call hybrid of "power for altitude - pitch for airspeed" and "pitch for altitude - power for airspeed"
  12. I’m not that “big” to change anything myself. It’s been a common practice. I believe it’s due to lack of visual references and complete reliance on instruments. Also small size attitude indicators where you can barely see pitch (unlike modern PFD), lack of AOA indicators in 99% of smaller GA aircraft. Directors like following requires different flying techniques I believe Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Thanks for info. It must be long time since flight instructed. PTSs became ACSs and a lot of frustrating things come with that. Of course it’s much different in F-18. P. S. Once in a while I do checkout for marine aviators for a local club, they are fun guys to fly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Interesting. The reason I’m asking is because in civilian aviation for instrument flying instead of “power for altitude, pitch for airspeed” - it actually thought “power for speed pitch for altitude”. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Do you shoot approaches in IMC also with AOA and power ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Ok make sense. Will wait for VREST page Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I’m wondering how did you guys figure out appropriate weight which allow you to make vertical landing during flight (given conventional take off with heavy load)? I checked the pocket guide but but couldn’t find any explanation other than maximum VL weight Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. OK, looks like problem is solved! It came back online after restarting DCS
  19. Autohower toggle still bind to the same button :(
  20. After latest I can't engage autohower in 2.1. Does anyone else have the same problem?
  21. If you want to get some in-depth understanding why turbulence happens and when. You can give a shot for this read https://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Advisory_Circular/AC_00-6B.pdf
  22. Reality is that you can have a turbulence even without clouds (CAT). If you cumulus is the only cloud you familiar it doesn't mean that every cloud has a turbulence ;)
  23. Problem solved. Thanks ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I don’t who wrote those guidelines, but in my world of instrument flying we use two cross-radials to identify waypoints. Unless of course it’s on an airway, then DME can be used (still doesn’t hurt to use cross-radials) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Thank you! That fixed wheel brake and chute deployment. Now another problem - it won't disengage  However, I should admit taxi with chute much better than run off the runway :music_whistling:
