  1. Here's the thing, he was demanding an update on something that is already a known issue. I agree that feedback is essential, but asking when something is going to be fixed is not feedback. Here's my two cents. ED and the devs are most likely working everyday trying to finish the product they started. I seriously doubt a single one of them has an attitude of not caring about the end user. The thing is we all purchased this module knowing that is early access. These things take time. I can't imagine the amount of coding and work that goes into perfecting a flight model! I can't even get excel formats to work for me half the time! Yes it needs work and yes it will take time, however we have a 90% solution right now that is very robust! To think about how far flight sims have come in the last decade and all the technology for things like VR is crazy! Every time I put on VR and strap into the hornet it brings me back to my childhood when all I thought about was flying and all the possibilities. Even after accomplishing my wildest dreams I still enjoy the thrill that DCS brings. It's an exciting time to be a member of the DCS and flight sim community!! I just see these posts complaining about wait times or demanding answers and it kills me. I bet that also has an effect on the dev team at times. I also can't see how you can demand realism from people when you are most likely using basic controllers with no rudder pedals sitting on a desk! Granted I would say this is about 20% or less of the DCS community but it seems to be a lot. Ok sorry about the rant, but I had to get that out! I appreciate this community so much and can't thank all the people that contribute in positive ways to help with our learning curves! I also appreciate Wags and the dev team for creating a world in which I enjoy so much! I just can't stand the negativity in such an exciting time in this community. Panic
  2. Thanks for finding that! Sorry I totally misspoke, I thought it was a F-15 and a 23. I hadn't seen the video in a few months and remembered the wings were swept out which made me think of the 23. Hopefully they will release the video soon! Definitely something to watch and learn from.
  3. Unfortunately I just remembered the video hasn't been released yet...:music_whistling: It does exist however.
  4. Let's not forget that the job of a pilot prior to stepping to his aircraft is to ensure that he has as much intel he can so he knows what to expect. If you know there is a potential for a IR missile SAM site or manpad or the enemy bandits then you have to do some mission planning. Either you have to remain outside of their WEZ over the target area or pre-emptive flares over the target area and keep your eyes open. That is what we do real world and is not much different than DCS. As for the bandit, if he gets on your six and has a solution with IR missiles then you can expect he will shoot one at you. Have to keep your head on that swivel and use those defensive manuevers to not give him a solution. While I agree that it seems the bandits in the game are really smart at defeating IR guided missiles there is a video that shows this in practice. There is video of a F-15 taking a shot at a Mig23. You can see in the HUD tape that the Mig defeats the first missile with some exceptionally timed flares. That was a AIM-9X btw! I can tell you that they didn't have an IR detect system in that plane. He knew the F-15 was behind him and either saw the missile being fired or he just got lucky with the dispense button! On a side note I bet the weapons school put in some long hours trying to figure out how that happened! :pilotfly:
  5. I guess my next question would be then is there a way to know when the system wont require rudder? I've never flown in a hornet but assuming you keep your feet off the pedals and you roll there has to be a point where that roll is going to be strictly aileron and no rudder. I wonder if it is maybe also caused by releasing back stick pressure in a high g turn and then inducing roll input before the elevators have a chance to get back to true zero? I appreciate all the input gents! I'm going to hit up Lex and see if he has an answer as a former hornet driver.
  6. Is this a function of airspeed? I have a hard time believing that coordination is needed at higher airspeeds, but this is where I am not familiar with the flight model of the Hornet.
  7. So I noticed this the other day when i was defensive against SAMs but has anyone else noticed that when you are in a High G turn then roll out to pull up your rudders also move? When I do this I get quite a bit of side to side movement at slower air-speeds after rolling out. Granted my rudder control is on my flight stick as I do not have rudder pedals at my current location, but I made sure there was enough of a dead zone so that I was not inadvertently moving the rudders during high G defensive maneuvers. Can anyone provide some help on this? Does the Hornet have auto control of the flaps with the ailerons at slower air-speeds? Anyone else seen this?
  8. Hey guys need a little bit of help here. Been flying a mission I created to do some practice with the JTAC. Everything is set the way it needs to be like weapons hold and making sure the JTAC is prioritizing the right target. I have been flying it fine for about a week and then all of a sudden two things have happened. 1. The JTAC talking now has some sort of squelch effect added to it. I don't think this is normal but it definitely sounds muffled than before and it is completely different form the tanker, ATC and the Crew Chief. 2. I use Viacom and VA because I use VR and now it won't let me check in. When I pull up the comms menu and select it with the mouse nothing happens either. I've tried restarting and loading a different JTAC and all that. Has anyone experienced this? This only seems to be happening when talking to the JTAC, comms with darkstar, the tower or the tanker are unaffected.
  9. It's funny to me how we now live in a world of instant gratification where we expect things to happen immediately. I've been flying simulators for the last 25 years or so and have seen them come a long way. I don't mind waiting, I barely have enough time to fly the Hornet in DCS and the Viper in BMS as it is. Not to mention the longer we wait the more likely additional items like a better VR headset is made and release as well as the 2080Tis coming down in price. Sometimes waiting is better. The flight sim community has definitely become one of damned if you do and damned if you don't kind of thing. I am pretty sure we will see this with any new module coming out like the A-6 eventually. I'm just as excited to fly the F-14 as anyone, just glad someone has finally made it! All that said though it would pretty epic for heatblur to release the Tomcat on December 21st. That might be a tall order for them depending on where they are in the production, but you couldn't ask for a better release date for this module.
  10. At first glance you would think this is a room of future A-10 pilot trainees but I have a feeling this is an 18X class learning to fly the MQ-9! It's funny they're using DCS to me. I'm curious how that fits into the syllabus. David are you in this picture?
  11. Yeah man it's not easy. I do recommend you join their newsletter. It will send you an email when they get stock in and that is what I had to do. I wasn't signed up for it at first and when I checked their "news" section I noticed they had stock but sold out fairly quickly. Once you get the email though, jump on it quickly! I think it took about 6 months for me to finally get one too so hang in there! It's worth it for the Hornet IMO!
  12. Well the springs I have on both axis are the same. I am using 2x #50's I think you are referring to the "cams" that are either a #10 or a #30. If I had a choice, and the stick could handle it (even though MCG rep told me that a combined total of 100 is fine for the springs, only 80 is currently recommended) I would go a little heavier on the springs. Ultimately a force feedback stick would be the best to add some tension under G load, but I doubt we will get to that point for a while. So for now I just want there to be a stiffer feel as you get to the full range of the stick, while maintaining a fairly easy center. The 2x#50 springs are the best for this IMO. As for the cams it strictly cam down to finding center. I don't like a hard center (similar to how the Cougar was from TM with two opposing springs) as that is not what you will find in a real plane at all. I found though that I needed a little bit of it on the pitch to better maintain level flight. Without that center detent I found that it was hard to get to a trimmed hands off condition by just letting go of the stick. Ultimately though it is strictly what feels better to you. If you got this stick I would recommend starting at the lowest spring (which is what I did) and gradually increasing to your liking. It was a pain though as it took quite a bit of time to tear down, take the springs off and get the new ones on. That is ultimately why I decided to write a review to help ease that process for someone else.
  13. I don't need to "wrestle" the joystick per se, but as a pilot with several thousand hours of experience with real flight sticks, it just needed more tension. That of course is my own opinion and if you find the lighter feel of using the looser springs easier and better by all means. I was strictly coming from a more realistic approach and would have liked to see a firmer feel, especially when you consider how heavy an actual stick gets with the onset of G's. The extension might also be a factor. I am using the extension and prefer that because again it closer resembles what the actual stick would be like in the plane. I'm definitely not the kind of guy that just throws a joystick on a desk and calls it good. I would much rather have more of a cockpit to give me the real feeling. Makes a difference for me flying in VR as well! I do appreciate your input!
  14. I basically just kept stalking their website until the stock came back in. It didn't last long and as soon as I got work I jumped on it. I recommend that you join their newsletter. I normally don't like getting random emails from companies and generally don't subscribe, but while I was waiting initially I missed an earlier opportunity. So I joined their newsletter and it announced that stock was back. I went to their website and ordered immediately. Same thing with Virpil (which I will be doing another review on once I get back to the states in January). Trust me...worth the wait!! I enjoy flying DCS with the Hornet with this stick much more than the Warthog stick! I am sure once the Hornet stick from TM is released (if it ever gets released!) I will have a hard time choosing, but for now there is no comparison IMO. As for the setup I just have this one pic. I recently moved and didn't save the pictures I had before. I have the Obutto Revolution and welded a custom plate to one of their brackets to get the height that I wanted.
  15. You bet! Glad it helped!
  16. You know I really didn't mean to cause this quite of a stir or debate on this thread! I was just trying to point out that their website is back up and running. At the end of the day, your personal preference and your personal pocket book will be making your decisions based on the information you learn. If I get PIMAX and I'm disappointed then that's on me no one else. I'm also in the position to spend the money now on something potentially better than what I have, rather than wait. Sure it might be a loss if I end up going with a different option later like StarVR, but last I checked I'm a grown ass man and can make those decisions. I do appreciate all the inputs though. :pilotfly:
  17. I'll give that a shot! thx
  18. hey guys, those of you using Voice attack and Vaicom. So I have it all setup and can talk with the tower and the ground crew pretty effectively. I am however still having a problem with the tanker. I key the mic and say "texaco" or "tanker" and hear the small beep, but then any command I say to request fuel just doesn't work. I am not sure what else to try. I did read that someone was saying the specific commands into windows speech recognition but I don't quite know how to do that. I have done the actual speech training like four times. Any one have any ideas for me to try?
  19. Glad I ordered the PIMAX!
  20. All, I know the last pre-order launch from PIMAX was a total S&^t show, but it is now up and running! PIMAX will be on the way!! https://pimaxvr.com/
  21. Listen, your first step is wanting to learn! I remember when I starting flying sims a long time ago and remember how daunting everything was as well. Took weeks to learn even the basic stuff sometimes! Definitely follow a lot of the advice the others have already said. Just know that once you get good and start accomplishing some of those goals (like successfully dropping bombs on target, or landing on a carrier) it will be very rewarding and wanting you to come back for more! I also recommend a decent HOTAS setup, especially for military flight sims. They make life soooo much easier! You don't have to spend an ungodly amount of money like I have over the years to get a decent setup, but whatever you get will be worth it. Just keep up with that grind man! It will pay off! Welcome to club.
  22. Single Player Jar is this setup so that I can practice the Case I and then replay it while sitting as LSO to see how I did? Or is this just for multiplayer?
  23. Awesome I’m a little late to this post because I am currently deployed but man this looks amazing! I am sending my flight sticks out as we speak! Heat blur you guys are doing great work!! And I am definitely looking forward to an A-6 flyable in the future! I’ve been a flight simmer for a long time and to see where things have come is truly amazing! Absolutely incredible. Can’t wait to fly it.
  24. UPDATE: After settling on using the #10 cams I noticed that I was having trouble finding center in pitch. Roll wasn't bad and the stick did a nice job of centering itself, but pitch became a fine tuning nightmare. So I've decided to go with the #10 on the roll axis and the #30 on the pitch. This still provides a better overall feel to the stick but also providing a place for the center in pitch.
  25. Hey man just to let you know that VKB said that two #50s are good and won't mess anything up!
