  1. recent impressions of hands on with the Reverb, including through the lenses pictures:
  2. In this podcast from one month ago, Matt Wagner mentioned that the team was already working on optimizing the terrain engine: https://alert5podcast.podbean.com/e/scramble-04-matt-wags-wagner/ Actual release of the optimizations may be actually closer than we think
  3. Placebo effect...
  4. I know nothing, but can consistently kill the Su27 in the instant action in Caucasus in less than 30 sec, whereas the Mig29 in the instant action in Nevada always gets me. OP might be on to something here.
  5. I don't know but managed to complete the campaign just the same :)
  6. Whoa... amazing. Gonna have to try that :)
  7. Great stuff, thank you! So if a player disregards the mission, changes loadout and strikes a different target this is taken into account in the following missions? For example if one strikes an airbase and destroys parked aircraft, they will be counted as destroyed in the following mission?
  8. I must say this DCE campaigns are very very cool. I always review the Trackview after each mission and it's really nice to watch the action unfold over the whole theater, even after "pruning" the campaign. Is there some explanation on how the ATO works? For example does detection by EWR trigger an intercept flight to take off, or is every flight pre-programmed in the mission? Is there some strategic logic at play in the choice of strike targets? I could not find any details, it would be great to have some pointers. Heartfelt thanks to Mbot, PB0_CEF and all those who worked to make this possible.
  9. Thank you for the detailed information. I hope it won't be too complicated for the devs to provide the depth buffer in a forthcoming update.
  10. Apparently ASW 2.0 works only if developers "expose depth information", whatever that may mean. https://www.oculus.com/blog/introducing-asw-2-point-0-better-accuracy-lower-latency/
  11. Yep, noticed. Too bad :joystick:
  12. No, I meant the new Oculus drivers released today, with the new ASW 2.0. But thx for reminding me to update GPU drivers as well.
  13. hmm, I see no difference in DCS. If anything performance with the new Oculus drivers is worse. Still feels better disabling ASW 2.0...
  14. Beats me, but I took a couple of plunges off the edge of the carrier with the Tomcat, and the sea bottom was visible all around for miles... Very clear "water" btw
  15. My guess is that terrain is still rendered underwater, even if not visible to the player.
  16. Yes, I have a warthog with an extension, so for me it's not a problem to hold the stick forward. I actually never use trim except for hovering.
  17. Well I've done it, so I know it's doable. Maybe the altitude parameters for hooking the cargo are more restrictive in this specific mission. OTOH if you load the mission in the mission editor and move the cargo in the editor some distance away from the original position, and then you fly the mission, you can even hook while landed close to the cargo using the hook cargo command. In the campaign mission instead you have to hover at a specific altitude (higher than 40 feet? didn't really notice) or it won't hook.
  18. It's challenging but doable. Make sure you are trimmed for hovering before trying to hook the cargo. I found that this simple trick is all it really takes for successfully hooking the cargo. Once cargo is hooked, keep the huey trimmed for hovering and proceed to the dropoff area. The hover trim helps in keeping the cargo swings under control while lowering it to the ground.
  19. The mission can be done in the current DCS version. Cargo hooks as long as you are hovering at the correct height (IIRC around 30 feet). I dropped the cargo too far from the artillery and had to pick it up again, but once at the objective it was possible to hook it by landing close to the cargo, no need to hover. Unfortunately after dropping the cargo in the correct position one of the 2 blackhawks collided with my huey, but thankfully I managed to land back at the initial FARP to repair and refuel. Went back to the artillery, landed, observed the bombardment, and did the rest of the tasks, then back at the FARP to refuel again then landed on the frigate with explosions going off around me. Talk about a nerve wracking couple of hours inside the Oculus Rift. I emerged totally drained :)
