Update issues after completing cold and dark start Prior to loading the latest DCS update yesterday I had no issues. Now when I attempt my usual cold and dark start in the Mirage 2000 at Nellis AFB while using VR, the system freezes at the exact spot......engine start and checks completed and the kneeboard is active and I use the communication menu to request clearance to taxi, then I lose control of the kneeboard and communication menu. I cant select any options or exit from the kneeboard and communications menu which prevents me going any further in the flight. The kneeboard and communication screens are displayed throughout the start up procedure and there is no indication of any degraded performance etc until I ask for taxi clearance. Has anyone experienced similar issues since the upgrade? I will experiment by not using the kneeboard and communication menu, then only one at a time, which hopefully will identify where the problem is. Prior to starting the Mirage 2000 cold and dark startup I was using the Harrier to learn how to complete a Harrier cold and dark start while using the kneeboard throughout but I was not using the communications menu. There was no issues so hopefully any problem is isolated to the Mirage 2000. Cheers

Mirage Primary ADI Turn Slip Ball In my post I should have added I only fly in VR although it appears VR is not the problem. It seems, with difficulty, it is possible to see the side slip ball in the Mirage after the cockpit panel lights are turned on. Compared to some other DCS aircraft the Mirage side slip ball is difficult to see because of it size, dark background and proximity. The DCS trainers and the F5E Tiger have what I call the traditional side slip indicators i.e. large in size, in a prominent position and have a black ball on a white background. They also can be clearly seen in daylight without turning on the panel lights. Is the Mirage side slip indicator only intended as a backup like the steam gauges and only to be used in an emergency? I am assuming I should be referring to the HUD for controlling my co-ordinated turns when flying the Mirage and later era aircraft. If so, what item of the HUD gives the information required to maintain co-ordinated turns? Cheers

I cant see the ball located in the Primary ADI Turn Slip Indicator of the Mirage 2000C. The bar is dark grey with no ball evident. I am a newbie to the Mirage 2000C so it is very likely I have missed something such as a light switch for the Primary ADI. Any suggestions? Cheers

C101 Tutorials If the recent C101 tutorials cant be presented in English is it possible to have sub titles in English. Cheers

After learning navigation using ILS/NDB/TACAN while flying the jet trainers and the F5E Tiger I decided it was time to experience navigation using the Normandy Map. I started with the P51D Mustang because I had no experience with tail dragers and decided it was time to learn. The cold start option for the P51D Mustang involves taking off in thick fog which very quickly results in me loosing sight of the airfield and eventually colliding with trees, chimneys etc while looking for a place to land. My question is how can I navigate when I can barely see the landmarks and I have no maps to navigate by. The copies of the Normandy WW2 era maps downloaded from the DCS forums do not show railroads or landmarks in the detail needed to effectively navigate to a destination in limited visibility. I am certain the WW2 pilots would have experienced these situations and developed the skills needed to locate their targets and return to their airfields. Hopefully this information is still available so I can progress my training to actually landing the P51D. Any suggestions? Cheers

Like Frag I found the F5E Tiger the most suitable aircraft for my needs after spending considerable time flying the 3 trainers in DCS. Although it will take some time before I can say I have mastered the F5E, I have started thinking about the next aircraft after the Tiger. I purchased the F/A18 but I also feel it is a step to far after the F5E Tiger. Any suggestions about which of the more advanced aircraft in DCS that I would find easier to transition to after the F5E? Cheers

Thanks Gizzy Obviously work in progress but the few English labels help. Cheers

Am I correct in assuming the English labelled cockpit is not yet available? I was looking forward to the YAK-52 and I am not disappointed. Unlike most of rte DCS aircraft it is easy to learn to fly and a lot of fun. If I was introducing a novice to DCS this is the aircraft I would start with. Cheers

I can adjust the trim in flight but the Trim Indicators always remain in a zero trim status. I searched the Bugs to be fixed section on the forum, and the C-101 Aviojet forums but found no mention of non functioning Trim Indicators. Are others experiencing this issue? Cheers

I am still learning the basics of flying military jets so concentrating on learning to fly the Hawke, C101EB and L39 Albatross. I am also attempting to master the F5E and Sabre. Watching the videos of the F18 with its advanced capabilities and technology confirms to me that an advanced trainer for the F18 is needed. Is there a DCS aircraft that could be regarded as an advanced trainer for the F18? Cheers

Vibora Thanks for the quick reply. Mission accomplished. Cheers

After downloading the C-101 2 days ago it is now my new favourite trainer. Congratulations to Aviojet for this quality aircraft and supporting documentation. Previous posts indicate that it is possible to obtain a full English cockpit but I cant locate the mod file. Is it possible to download an English Cockpit mod that is compatible with the latest DCS versions? Cheers

Can I use the L39 Albatross with the Persian Gulf Map or is the F18 Hornet the only aircraft that works with the Persian Gulf map? Because I am a newbie to DCS I am struggling to learn the Albatros, Hawk, F86 Sabre, Mustang and Spitfire. As much as I would like to fly the new F18 Hornet it is beyond my present capabilities. Also I enjoy the trainers more than the more demanding fast and high tech aircraft. Cheers

It appears from some entries on the forum that this problem has never been corrected. In Cold Start my CH throttle is not recognised but is recognised when I select the Takeoff or In Flight options. It is not possible to click on the Idle control with my mouse. When in Cold Start and I attempt to start the engine using the Cheat Start option the process stops because the Throttle is not in the Idle position. I have attempted to start the Cold Start engine in VR and using the monitor. The DCS L 39 Quick start manual includes the following instruction: after 3- 6 sec. set throttle to «IDLE» Is this a bug that needs fixing or a "feature" of the L 39 Albatros? Cheers

Although the YAK52 is not a warbird it is popular at air shows and appears to be a capable and fun aircraft to fly. So when the YAK52 is released I will place an order.

Normandy 1944 module manager failed to retrieve data
Johnr666 replied to Johnr666's topic in DCS: Normandy 1944
Normandy 1944 failure to upload Captain Orso thanks for your reply. You were correct in asking what version of the DCS World I was using. I was attempting to load Normandy 1944 Maps into the DCS World 1.5 while I should have loaded it in the DCS World 2 Open Alpha. Normandy 1944 Maps loaded into the DCS World 2.1 without any difficulties. Cheers -
I have purchased the Normandy 1944 Map but when I attempt to down load using the Module Manager the message "Failed to retrieve data. An error occurred while retrieving data. Try again" appears. All my purchases except for Normandy 1944 have successfully down loaded through the Module Manager. Disabling the Windows 10 Anti Virus made no difference. Has anyone experienced this problem? Cheers
