    Which drivers do you use?

22.3.1 . I tried 22.5.1 , but it introduced a problem , so i reverted . I do not use motion reprojection , but motion smoothing works perfectly . I am always at 60 frames in the air , 30 on the ground , and the transition is seamless . I run in Steam VR .

I'm away from DCS now; from what I remember, I use an old "VR friendly" driver, probably 21.5.2 or earlier.

In fact, in my experience motion reprojection is worse in my 6900XT than in my old Nvidia 2070 Super; for this reason I preferred to disable motion reprojection altogether, setting the G2 reverb to 60 hz

    EDIT:

I run a test with 21.5.2 driver; forced 30 hz in Opencomposite and on SteamVR, and the image looked like jelly.

  3. Absolutely . Always has been a rat race between software and hardware .

I've been thinking a lot about this these days and I have some concerns about what will happen with DCS after Vukan and especially multicore. Will ED use the new engine to put a lot more new features into DCS what pushes our future Pc's again to the limits in 2D and VR users have similar problems like today?

  4. Anything from either of those companies is premium . Better to think of it in terms of what meets your requirements re layout , overall height and throw .

Virpil has the lead in overall customer experience , as their software is better , as is the ordering process . You can pre-order with Virpil & reserve a place in line for delivery , as opposed to VKB's "better luck next time" approach .

I suppose the VKB "Ultimate" is their best stick , as it has a metal grip shell and the ability to swap out a limited number of axes/hats .

  5. It is very easy to get distracted by VR tweaking , and i have been so in the past . Fortunately , i have found my sweet spot , and i now resist the urge to chase a small fps gain or graphics improvement , regardless of what i read on this forum , preferring to simply enjoy what i have .

I am looking forward to ED's engine improvements , particularly as they may enable greater LOD distances .

As to how to get past the performance issues , i simply run the G2 at 60hz native . The benefits are myriad , including much-enhanced graphics settings and super-smooth native hz with no artifacts at all times while in the air , and seamless motion-smoothing transitions when on the ground or Supercarrier .

Some report flickering at 60hz which my old eyes don't see , but even if one does , i would recommend trying it for a few flights to see if you acclimate , as the benefits are so substantial .

  6. I don't even know how to respond to this . Straw arguments , cherry-picking , and operational advice incorporating terms such as "gradually" and "eventually" . For my part , i will just agree to disagree .

Of course we can, they just don't depend on trim, which is often the case in aircraft that use electric trim, too. In some jets, electric trim physically moves the stick in pitch, sometimes even in roll, but that's hardly universal. This can be mimicked with force feedback if you really want it, but in a real jet with hydraulic controls, you do not get feedback on the stick itself.

Just gradually ease off on the stick while countering with trim and, eventually, throttle. It takes some practice but it's doable. If you have a good stick, the last bit should be really gentle.

  7. A few weeks ago , i had to make a decision whether to go VKB or Virpil for a new stick . I chose Virpil because my impression is that they are more customer-facing .

Virpil's pre-order system , the fact that they accept PayPal , the more user-friendly software , and more understandable product descriptions (at least for me) are what tipped the balance .

All of which is not to knock VKB . They are doing some interesting things , and i hope they continue to flourish . But they need to elevate their customer experience to the level of their hardware .

FYI, in real aircraft electric trim is known to be somewhat imprecise, and certainly inferior to old-style analog trim wheels. It's not a problem with DCS, it's a problem with systems being simulated, and a known one, too. Most aircraft can't be trimmed completely hands-off with just the hat.

The problem is that we can't feel stick forces ! IRL , trim/throttle until no stick force at the speed you wish to fly . In DCS , lacking that feedback , god only knows what is going to happen when you re-center the stick . So the ED trim implementation while perhaps realistic in terms of trim overshoot is NOT operationally realistic due to equipment limitations . Thus i feel that a software compromise in terms of trim sensitivity is warranted .

I don't know if it is a problem in DCS, because some people can trim their planes, that's kinda strange

There are workarounds . I use tiny throttle movements to compensate for over-trimming (per Stick and Rudder-still the best book ever written about how aircraft fly) . Others use axis or possibly encoder inputs instead of hat switches .

And fly-by wire aircraft don't require the kind of fine trimming we're talking about here .

My previous stick was a CH Fighterstick . The coarse trim increments/decrements in DCS particularly gave me(and give with the new stick) fits with the L-39 . Countering overtrim with throttle while cruising at altitude is one thing , but doing so while maneuvering on the deck is much more problematic , particularly as we can't feel stick forces . We can only determine trim effects by centering the stick , and the resulting bobbles are of no consequence up high , but potentially disastrous down low .

  10. It means that there are several posts regarding trim over-sensitivity in ED'S software , regardless of Hotas manufacturer or pilot . Here is one .

Do you mean that it is coming from the material or from the pilot?

  11. Anyone have info on the CM3 throttle throw (travel) ? I am considering it as well as the Winwing Super Taurus . Currently using a CH Pro throttle with about 2" of (linear) travel and would prefer at least 3x that in linear or rotary travel for AA refueling or carrier traps .

  12. I think TrackiR will run better at 60 hz locked(or 30 , 120) . Several threads here regarding TiR causing micro-stuttering unless running at a harmonic of 60 .  I would (and have) setup the graphics to run 60 hz locked for the smoothest experience when running TiR .

  13. I hear that ! Irrespective of features , i will not purchase a Meta headset . The parent company is untrustworthy , period .

Re. Pimax , they seem to be more focused on introducing new models rather than improving existing ones . I would love to see a reasonable increase in FOV with G2-like resolution though .

Two headset mfg's I will be staying away from - Pimax, just never cared for their marketing style. Maybe someday that might change, no time soon though. Oculus - I left them after they left the Rift line, no fan of their requirements to run one of their headsets now. I think they are more focused on creating this utopia in the Meta Verse for social than anything. Not really sure what ole Zuck's goals are with the Quest Pro.  In any event after the Aero I hope to be able to stay away from any new VR headset purchases for a while. Getting burned out on spending all this cash on VR LOL.

  14. Got the T-50 CM2 grip and WarBrD base less than a month after (easy because of PayPal) ordering . Was particularly surprised by how fast the shipping was . 2-3/4 days from Lithuania to rural AR , USA .

Setup went as smoothly as possible , the overall quality is reflected in the looks (this thing looks like a serious piece of flightsim gear !) And the additional control is much appreciated .

So yeah , would highly recommend Virpil based on my experience .

The outright cost for a P51 (nearly a 1/4 of the cost of a B17) along with the above ratio on kills by fighters does make me wonder why using bombers to kill fighters was considered as a suitable tactic

The thing is , the bombing campaign should be credited with the kills by escort fighters as well , as these could not happen without the Luftwaffe rising to intercept the bombers .

The Luftwaffe tried a similar gambit during the Battle of Britain , but was foiled by British small-unit tactics , among other things .

I'm leaving this discussion now to provide air for other ideas as to how the effects of a fast-bomber campaign may have changed history . Great OP .

  16. As i understand it , the more popular sticks are shorter , making them more suitable for desktop use .

As i already have deskmounts , i elected for the longer Mongoose , which allows finer control .
