oh.. yeah... not great if already running 4k... beats the crap out of the GPU... probably good for lower res though..

Not sure... it does seem to be quite apparent in DCS more than any other game ive seen though... hope they can implement a good AA.. -

Totally get it.. no need to apologize!!.. just seen so many issues with some perfectly capable systems... and for me locking to vsync or 60 fps solid in 4k MSAA x2 is great on the eyes and easy on the hardware... and all of my oc results have only really taxed the hardware with no real performance gains... so for now.. im just stickin with 60fps. -

Headwarp *Edit - response to DflippinK - the higher the resolution you play at, the more GPU dependent things become. For poops and giggles you can monitor your cpu/gpu usage between 1080p and 4k. gtx 970 was a big deal when they were new because it pretty much set the bar for 1080p performance when paired with a fast processor in most games. Once you hit 2k or higher resolutions cpu clockspeed matters less than how beefy the gpu is. And on that note - I'm eager for nvidia's next generation of cards. totally understand.. but the logic that often gets disregarded in the quest for max FPS is that you only need to feed the GPU what it can handle.. suppose the GPU is bound to 60fps.. no matter what resolution, your CPU can handle that feed... so,.. is 60fps acceptable,... or for some reason do you need 144fps?.. or more.. in that case you would require the CPU to process more food for the GPU to eat... Max fps is always going to be a troublesome goal for all hardware... but it isnt anything anyone really needs.. For VR it seems that 90fps is the bottom line.. weather or not that is attainable for DCS with current hardware is beyond me, but bounding the GPU to only ask for the frames you need would likely relieve any unnecessary stresses that your CPU would have to go through.. Ex.. at 3.7ghz on R7 1800x and 1080ti 4k/60fps/= CPU primary core 56% load/ GPU@ 66% load/50c 2k/60fps/= CPU primary core 43% load/ GPU@ 34% load/ice cold ect... Guess we just have to tune to what is acceptable FPS wise.. which might still be pretty troublesome for the VR bunch even with the latest hardware.. I also am excited for whats to come from Nvidia!! -

Yeah.. im runnin it pretty maxed out in 4k on the r7 1800x at stock clocks and boost(3.7-4.1) with an evga 1080ti stock settings and vsync locked at 60... everythin running comfortable and cool... ive also downclocked my cpu to 3.5 and it runs just the same... no matter what the adjustment, the game engine seems to only really need 2 cores at about 3.5, and a GPU with some power to spare.. MSAA does still significantly increase GPU load.. but at 4k 2x MSAA looks good.. so not really complaining... think the GTX 1080s should be fine.. probably the 1070's too.. -
Should promo videos also list spec of machine running them?

Agreed... honestly dont believe that DCS benefits from OC'ing much past 3.7ghz... think the game engine itself is where performance must be optimized.. -
hmm.. well,Lol.. id be cool with just a mini 4k screen attached to my face at a solid 60fps along with some track ir... might not have the 3d depth, but would be more than immersive enough for me.. guess ill stick with my tv in my face for now though.:)

but why not something easier for the hardware like 60fps? can the refresh rate be set below 90 but above 45?
-
watching your vid now

Does VR require more than 60 fps?.. or like 60 x2 for the headset? i know nothing about it... what is the resolution of the internal screens? why is everyone seeking 90 fps or more?

Just chiming in on this real quick.. Have been running DCS 2.5.1 open beta for awhile now with good results as far as i am concerned.. But i keep seeing so many of us with perfectly capable systems on here having so many issues. I have run DCS every which way that i can on my machine, from overclocked CPU and GPU to bone stock settings, adjusting everything in game, Nvidia CP, and post effects ie "Reshade".. Currently, my in game settings are as follows along with Reshade SMAA always on and sometimes switching on MSAA x2 DCSsettings1.JPG With no OC, everything runs smooth... If i OC, i could get more frames.. but i have also found that i just dont need to.. I am running a Ryzen 1800x along with a 1080ti and locked at 60fps via VSync in game on a 50" 4k tv... With MSAA off and using Reshade SMAA, DCS seems to barely utilize 2 CPU cores and about 54%-65% GPU generally. Sometimes spikes to an 85%-90% GPU load when conditions get hairy, but it doesnt skip a beat.. with MSAA on 2x plus Reshade, the GPU averages around 72-78% with a few 99% spikes every once in a while.. but still doesn't really skip a beat. While it doesn't address VR, i think it may be of help to some to give you're systems a break... Lock your refresh to 60hz.. turn on VSYNC.. play between MSAA and Reshade or even both and figure out how you can make your system run comfortably... try to Avoid high load and to Avoid heat.. My setup: Win 10 Pro Ryzen 1800x @ 3.7 ghz 4.1 boost EVGA FTW3 1080 ti @ just over 1950mhz stock boost clocks 32gb Corsair Dominator Platinum @ 2666mhz Samsung 850 Evo Stock settings in Nvidia CP The only issue i ever see is that Reshade seems to make DCS sometimes crash when i exit the game.. sometimes... but i was done flying anyway so i can tolerate that. Anyway.. locked at 60fps is a beautiful thing.. and i imagine easily achievable on most of the systems ive been hearing about having problems... hope you guys can get similar results..

Logs.zipnevermind last post... it still happens....always at 45 degrees... so weird.. anyway... here's the log.. -
for those of you with multiple displays running DCS on a single display, i have found that un-checking Full Screen in DCS settings has gotten rid of my freezing issues so far.. might also help for those of you running 3 displays.. if you can, select your total resolution and un-check Full Screen.. dont know, but might help.

Thanks for the help Guys... would like to report that i have changed nothing other than unchecking full screen mode under DCS settings and have not experienced one freeze since.. Every setting is the same,.. just Full Screen unchecked.. Running beautifully at 3840x2160 with Vsync @ 60fps and not even breaking a sweat. -

And now found something rather curious.. I run a dual display setup.. One 4k screen and a 1440p screen in portrait that i usually use for reference or monitoring... I just noticed in Task Manager, that when i start DCS, it maxes out one of my cores... I usually then click into my reference monitor to observe processes and monitoring info while DCS is running on my main monitor.. when i do this, the DCS screen flashes and comes back, however, in Task Manager, the CPU usage on that one core drops to half of what it was running at and stays there through the duration of running DCS... This time, I did not click into my reference monitor after starting DCS... that one core maintained high utilization... and i could not reproduce the system crash while in this state... However, in the middle of my flight, I decided to hit escape, mouse over to my reference monitor, and click on task manager.. In doing so, as always, the DCS screen refreshed, and the CPU utilization on that primary core dropped 50%... Returning to DCS, everything was just as smooth as before, using 50% less CPU.... but after a couple minutes.. the 45 degree Roll Bug returned... What could this be? -
