What I meant was, does PAC work with just a single stage trigger (plain old sidewinder joystick)? Or do I need to keep using a mapped key for first stage detent?

AI wingmen: What are they good for? A tip...
RichardG replied to Bahger's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
AI does not know how to use CBUs at altitude. They always dive down low for CCIP attack, instead of using a CCRP at altitude. There needs to be a way to tell wingman what kind of attack profile to use. -
Does PAC work with single stage trigger? I mapped first stage detent to my spacebar. I mash that for a second to PAC stabilize before pulling my stick trigger. I didn't try gunning without it, I just assumed it either didn't work, or engaged at the same time gun fired.

How do you start up in the dark if you can't see a dang thing?
RichardG replied to Bahger's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Yeah. Apparently Russian/Georgian airports don't use incandescent light bulbs at night. -
No kiddin? No HARMs for F-15E? I wonder what the reason for that limitation is? In that case, we're gonna need an F-16 too. :D
-
Thats why we need our F15, so let us have it. :) It can pretty much do anything a10 can, but faster, plus air to air and SEAD.

Arma2 guys do it. Its even "dynamic" IR. A tank thats been sitting a long time is cold. Fire the main gun or mgs and they get hot. Drive around awhile and the engine compartment and tracks gets hot. Park for awhile and the tank gets cold. HDR/Bloom effect even washes out your image if you see something too hot from too close, like a hot mg barrel too close to your IR camera or scope.

I was messing around with mission editor, and found an option to adjust the mean time of failure for everything on the plane. I suspect this affects only the currently loaded mission and not the "global" mean time settings? X-plane has the same feature, only it in the sims options page.

The 256 cockpit resolution is almost worthless for visual ID.

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
RichardG replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I'm skeptical of how well DCS can model a fighter or fighter bomber environment. After seeing the abysmal AI for wingman in Blackshark, and the not much better wingman/flight AI in A10, I don't know how air to air tactics can realistically be employed. (in DCS) The aircraft models and systems are excellent. But once one gets past that, it comes down to fighting in the airframe, and in air to air battles that will be done in flights and elements. Those flights and elements don't work well in this sim series. Falcon 4 had excellent element and flight AI, and excellent wingman and flight commands that worked. Didn't SimHQ just interview the lead developer of Falcon? Maybe DCS should hire him for some AI work. -
The biggest problem with using function keys, is you limit the comms selections to only 10 items (12 if you count back and exit (F11 and F12))

How to delete Flight plans;Mark points ;S-points etc`????
RichardG replied to deeteewan's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Turn off CDU. Reboot CDU. -
Goto radio-ground crew-rearm-PGM.....there are 14 commands there, I only have 12 funtion keys :shocking: Also, I think two of the GBU-31 entries are duplicates. May be part of the problem.

Disable all helos and CAS aircraft on your side. This will make you the only air support for the battle.

Where do online MP missions (when joining as client) download to?

Fast Mission...no score or flight time added?
RichardG replied to robnpat's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Heyyyyy, I was wondering what was going on. I thought my pilot in logbook was dead or something. I deleted my original pilot dang it. -
Check out this airforce vid, looks damn easy. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=574_1300096331 I blame all my refueling troubles on the boom operator :music_whistling:

I figured as much. Bohemian Interactive did a good job, but couldn't get all the textures done with their new Arma2 expansion either. So a lot of the new content will appear with thermal textures, and some of the older units look a tad off. I think they have a generic grey (or white) matte color for all the terrain (which would seem to save a lot of work), and only made heat textures for actual units, weapons and explosions.
-
The primary sensor on this aircraft is an IR detector. Finding targets is done primarily through this sensor, even in daylight. So its not worth the effort to model correctly?? As is, its unrealistically difficult to make out hot target against the improperly modeled background terrain. Almost everything you said about IR radiation is incorrect, unless your referring to ambient temperature, and not the objects themselves.

Peyoteros, I just saw your 3 images, and they are screwed up. Look at the second one (BHOT). The mans boots, hat, and rifle are showing to be the hottest, when his face, hands and arms should be. The first image has the same problem but reversed. In Arma2 Arrowhead, they had to make new "heat" textures for every object in the game for their new thermal sights, and it looks damn good. I think they used some kind of shortcut to code it in A10. Leokong, in your image, the trees are as hot as the men and vehicle on the road. Now I know ff I'm ever dying of hypothermia in the woods, all I have to do is go "hug a tree"

When I switch from the APU generator to the engine generators, I get a voltage drop that resets the CICU, IFFCC and the CDU. So its pretty much pointless to turn these systems on until both engine generators are running. Specifically, I just flip the engine generator switches on while the apu generator is running. Thats when the systems reset.

Your video proves my point. Theres a quick shot of a man standing under a tree. The man is jet black (its in BHOT), the tree is light grey, hes very easy to see. In game, the trees and the targets are the same damn color. Gain and level adjusts the whole image brightness, I've done that, not really what I'm talking about. Its the image polarity thats screwed up. But not the whole image, just the vegetation I think.
-
Why are the trees hot? A tank/truck/infantry in the woods would stick out like a sore thumb with a thermal imager, but in game the trees seem to be as hot as a target heat source (if WHOT, they are white, if BHOT, they are black) When the opposite should be true (in WHOT, trees should be black, in BHOT trees should be white). As is, it pretty much eliminates the true IR spotting capability, other than its ability to see in the dark. It looks to me like a photographic negative image, and not a true IR image at all. I suspect because of lazy coding? I don't know, just thinking out loud. I use a thermal imager at work. Here is vid of someone in the woods with WHOT. Notice the trees aren't hot. This isn't what one sees in the game. Theres plenty others to see on the net.

I haven't seen any infantry in quick generator missions. Just wondering if there are any?

ATC radio freqs are FM. However when I key a mike switch and bring up the ATC list, they are all listed in AM. You can't contact them on AM. This a bug with the ATC list?
