Is it going to be worth going 3090 to 4090?
Supmua replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
Don I think most of your flyings will be fine with the 9900K unless you play in a crowded MP server, since my CPU frametime is never above 22 ms unless I fly directly near populated supercarrier. It was mostly my GPU frametime that would spike in to high 20s or 30s in those situations. -

Oh u already have the 4090, is your system win10 or 11? Does it happen with all games? If you have fpsVR what does the frametime graph look like when it happened. -

Hopefully it doesn’t that a month or two for them to fix this. Is the stutter from sudden framedrop (frametime spike by either CPU or GPU) or from reprojection issue or with SteamVR itself. So many ways to test for this including disabling Varjo’s OpenXR and OpenVR, lock frame to 45 via analytical window, Varjo vsync on/off, run 2D games via desktop app, etc. I’ll definite mess around with all the settings as soon as my 4090 arrives. -
There’s a rumor floating around that they might stop making VR headsets, hope that’s not true as they’re the only WMR HMD Co left besides Lenovo. Unfortunately the only Co that I can see that would revitalize VR is Sony which won’t be PC compatible. Their headset has all the right specs (pancake OLED, HDR, etc.) and is designed for the mass, plus software and game development that will take full advantages of those features. We have some good hardware on the PC side but software lags behind badly and most games only treat VR headsets as monitors.

I’d stay away from NIVIDIA store, check resellers or large electronic stores. First day release is always like this but you’ll get one eventually. I just saw Asus ROG Strix listed on Amazon 3rd party seller/scalper for $4299.99 which is ridiculous. -

Is this reported by multiple people? I’ll check the discord. -

There’s someone here with 90 fps with the Samsung Odessey already, so it’s a matter of settings and rendering res. I don’t think sustained 90 will be possible on the Aero unless you compromise image quality significantly but I’m eager to run some numbers for sure even though my CPU isn’t ideal at the moment. I’m planning to upgrade to 13900K though but have to wait a few months since I already spent a lot recently (4090, 2TB Samsung 980pro NVME, Apple Watch Ultra, GPD Winmax 2 laptop, lol my wife will kill me when she sees the bills). -

If you don’t force SteamVR it runs in Quad screen rendering mode (very very good visuals but terrible framerate and interface issues), stick with force SteamVR for now and maybe update the Varjo Base software to 3.7 too. -
Is it going to be worth going 3090 to 4090?
Supmua replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
A guy on Varjo discord said he hits 80 fps at times from typical 40s, so that’s a bit encouraging considering the rendering res is quite high on the Aero even on the default setting but I won’t know for sure until I get to mess around with it myself. I don’t really need 90 fps in DCS (would be nice to see), just want a rock solid 45 in all flying scenarios with locked frame…although having 100 fps in No Mans Sky or 200 in Elite Dangerous is also nice. -

Even today's release is trickled, they don't let it all out at once for some reason. A friend of mine who missed out on the AM release was able to get one later in the afternoon. -

Some guy in MSFS forum tested it with Strix 4090/5800X3D/Quest 2/DX11 DLSS. His GPU frametime is below 11ms on avg which translates to 90+ fps, if CPU frametime allows. He didn’t show CPU frametime graph though. This is encouraging because I already know that my CPU frametime is below 11 ms in low populated areas so 90 fps in those areas may be possible depending on the rendering resolution. Now I’m hoping to see the GPU frametime in DCS to make more direct correlation though. -
The Quest Pro is more of an AR headset with some cool technology. AR could replace VR in the future if it allows you to visualize your peripherals such as HOTAS or button boxes while playing in a meaningful way. The problem is with the tech which is still relatively in infancy state and at that price it's not a mass market device, battery life is also rather poor. I'm also skeptical about the image clarity despite the claim of having much better clarity than Quest 2 at the same resolution. It might work well in corporate environment, virtual meeting, etc but I don't think it will be ideal for flightsims, but won't know until I try it (temped since I'm a big VR fan). Right now the Varjo is the HMD that offers the best image quality, but it's also plagued with quality control issues (both software and hardware) and the software development side is kind of slow--people are still waiting for motion smoothing option. Pimax's upcoming HMD is supposed to rival Varjo Aero in terms of image quality plus extras, but they don't have a good track record of releasing things on time. HTC teased a new HMD a few days ago but have been quiet since. I don't think Valve will release a new HMD any time soon as their main focus right now seems to be the Steam Deck which is apparently selling very well, but who knows.

If all goes well with the transaction, I'll have some numbers by next weekends. This card won't fit in my mATX machine which houses a 11700K so I'll have to pair it with the 9900K for now, and this will probably push me to upgrade it too lol. BTW, BHphotovideo still has ASUS TUF and Zotac Trinity OC in case you guys are still looking. Preorder only though. -

The 4090 cooling system seems over engineered so thermals will not be an issue with overclocking compared to older cards even with the cheapest models. You may or may not get the top binned chip with cheaper cards though. Personally I would just get whatever is available since it’s a high demand product, people were camping outside Bestbuy, Microcenter, etc for this. -

Avg FPS for NonVR MSFS 4K Ultra Preset DX11 from Paul's Hardware. This might give some rough ideas regarding DCS (nonVR and VR) performance since that game is also heavy on the CPU at times. Of course if you turn on DLSS option the performance goes up significantly from those numbers (except for the Radeon card since it doesn't have it). RTX 4090 - 77.9 RTX 3090Ti - 57.9 RTX 3090 - 51.4 RX 6950XT - 40.7 EDIT: Techtesters got 80 fps in MSFS, and 161 fps with DLSS3 on (with 6 ms increase in latency). -

It should translate to VR, but keep in mind that real world gaming performance will not be as high as benchmark numbers. To simplify, think of the 4090 as 2 generations leap in terms of typical performance. Aside from raw power and thermal, the power efficiency of the 4090FE card seems to be as impressive, much much superior to the 3090Ti. -

It looks like the reviewed performance numbers mirror those leaked bench numbers. This is the biggest GPU performance leap by NVIDIA since the 1080Ti. I’m equally impressed with the thermal performance of the FE card on these reviews and really wonders if we really need AIB coolers at all. 69C at full load is really good for an FE card. -

Those numbers are way too conservative considering this is the card that will be taking on AMD's top dog next month. On the CUDA core count alone the 4090 has 16,384 vs 10,752 on the 3090Ti (the 3080Ti on the other hand has 10,240 CUDA cores), not to mention much higher base clock that boosts up to 3GHz. -
Is it going to be worth going 3090 to 4090?
Supmua replied to Digitalvole's topic in Virtual Reality
They’ve been pretty tight-lipped about it, but my hunch is that it will be a similar mess like last gen especially with the FE card since that’s the most affordable one with guaranteed top-binned chip (highly overclockable). I remember having to wait over a month before getting my ASUS 3090, and this was via a combo purchase option from Newegg with an NVME drive which I really didn’t need. The 4090 is relatively a good deal (USD pricing only though, non-USD pricing is nuts) compared to the 4080 in terms of performance jump. -

We should see plenty of real-world performance numbers by tomorrow (9AM EST), hopefully they correlate with the leaked numbers. -

I believe most of these cards have a hard limit of 600W in bios (except maybe top shelf ones like ASUS ROG Strix). And according the rumors 450W tdp is expected unless you Overclock the heck out of the the card.
