  1. As far as I understand the 5800x3D isn’t meant to be OC, so I’m thinking the Noctua might suffice. I actually have the Noctua in my 11700K rig and the performance is pretty good with mild OC, it’s quieter than my rig with AIO cooler. The pricing of the Noctua and a 280mm cooler (Arctic is the one I’m looking at) is actually the same.
  2. I’m still trying to decide between Noctua D-15 vs 280mm AIO for the cooling. Don’t really need anything fancy since I might upgrade again in a year or so. What do you guys think?
  3. Did this with my setup, steady 90 fps with the Harrier Caucasus Freeflight (one of the VR performance friendly aircrafts) with default VR preset. This is the first time I hit the magic number and only possible after adding the 4090 to the setup. I would’ve enjoyed it much more but there’s ongoing stuttering issue with my Aero after the latest NVIDIA driver update which is required for the 4090.
  4. The only way to get good approximation is to run the same mission at the same preset, using the same rendering resolution. Some1's CPU number is quite strong though, but his 5800X3D is a great CPU for sims...the only chip that beats the 13900K in MSFS by a pretty good margin according to Tomshardware (1080p though).
  5. Yeah his CPU FT is a bit high. Even on my 9900K, I have better CPU FT in that mission with the low preset. Looking straight in cockpit I get 10.5-11.5ms, looking to the side like that it's 12.5-13.5. He should have better number with that CPU, might be some background processes causing performance drop. Just got my 4090 btw, I did overclock mine to +200 MHz both CPU and mem speed though.
  6. K I installed my 4090 (OC a bit +200 MHz both GPU and Memory) and yep the stuttering is very prominent in DCS in all axes. In Varjo desktop app, it only occurs in pitch/yaw axis but not in horizontal/vertical axis which is interesting. This is similar to what I saw with 3090 with the new NVIDIA update but 10x worse. It seems to be some sort of image retention artifacts. My new GPU is a regular Asus TUF card, but it has no trouble hitting 3GHz with overclock, so it's a good one. The good news is that I'm getting steady 90 fps in Harrier Caucasus free flight, That's right, with VR preset my GPU FT is 6-7ms and CPU FT is 8-9ms. So my speculation is correct that I can hit 90 fps when it comes to light flying. More testing to do but the Aero is killing me with all the tearing and stuttering mess. More on stuttering. Certain apps cause severe stuttering such as web browser, while native Varjo base or desktop window cause minimal issue. The stuttering can also induce GPU FT spike in DCS especially when I move around quickly. On avg, I gain 5-9ms in GPU FT reduction and 1ms in CPU FT reduction so far, Haven't done a lot yet but yes it's an improvement in both GPU and CPU FT with the upgrade, huge on GPU and a little bit on CPU. In stressful map such as Apache Syria Hot Ramp my GPU FT is 12.5ms which is really good while CPU is around 20.5, this still puts me at comfortable >45 fps...and this is without CPU upgrade which is also coming.
  7. The factory OC cards is another shady practice by vendors, when you manually overclock the regular cards they give pretty much the same performance. Yet so called OC versions still cost $200 more.
  8. Even the new 13900K has around 17% single core performance over its predecessor which isn’t much. So we’re left with CPU bottleneck which can be reduced by lowering resolution or certain settings in DCS. My 4090 just got delivered, I just need to get home and play with it.
  9. Something In the high setting preset is really taxing the GPU, but also seeing GPU frametime as low as 6ms is kind of crazy.
  10. They're doing closed beta testing, hopefully new software release soon. I read that there was a fix already.
  11. Should be very similar in clarity, but the Pimax will have better FOV and extra add-ons you can buy. SteamVR tracking needs additional faceplate attachment ($200) and there will also be a pass through camera module. The capabilities sounds very good on paper but where is the demo unit though. If you want SteamVR tracking then it’ll be $2100 for this headset making this pretty close to the 12K ($2400) which is a much better headset on paper anyway. The big question is can Pimax really execute all this, and why launch two products so close together one quarter apart.
  12. Clarity wise not as good but should be close since it’s 2560x2560 pixels. OLED screens have near infinite contrast and true black which is their main strength, however they tend to be dimmer than non-OLED in general. For me they’re the best type of display, and if done right the image quality could be unmatched. Other distinctive features include 10-bit HDR mode and 120 Hz.
  13. https://mixed-news.com/en/panasonics-very-compact-vr-headset-meganex-gets-steamvr-support/ The MeganeX is getting SteamVR support and will work with the Index controller. This is the one that I might consider since it’s compact and has high res micro OLED screens.
  14. The UK prices look horrid, lol. I don’t see anything below 2K damn.
  15. You can also sign up with trackers such as nowinstock (there’s gotta be some for the UK). These sites have tracking bots that can notify you on the fly via phone msg the moment the products are in stock at various retailers. This is how some friends were able to get the 4090 despite missing the initial sales. You typically only have seconds to do this so it’s a good practice to setup an account with those retailers for this. What will typically bog you down is the payment process which can take awhile especially when the site is being bombarded by thousands of other people wanting the same thing and a lot of time the product is no longer available by the time you punch in the credit card number. With services such as Apple Pay, I just click buy then double click a button on my phone to confirm the purchase and the transaction is done within 2 seconds.
  16. Yeah, when you look at my numbers don’t compared it to your own as we still don’t have the exact same setup and background apps even though I’ll be using the standard VR preset. Instead, look at the performance differences between my old and new setup and this way you can approximate how much gain you can expect with your setup. EDIT: Took apart my PC today to upgrade to gen5 PSU with the new 16-pin connector, took forever as my old cables are a huge clump of mess in the back of the PC, but now I’m ready for the 4090 tomorrow.
  17. I was talking about NVIDIA not OCUK, btw. Their practice is a bit shady but it has been this way for ages. I'm pretty sure they have enough products at least for the early adopters but decided to let them out a bit at a time. You might see a change in the pattern once the new AMD GPUs are ready to be on the shelf.
  18. Yeah it's rough when they're limiting the initial supplies to drive up the demands and craze to increase revenue. But this is one of the ways they can stay in business longer. A better way (for the consumers) to do this is the Apple's way, have a solid preordering system in place where everybody who wants it gets it. You might have to wait a bit but you're guaranteed to receive the products at some point in time...you can also get rid of scalpers that way unless you really need it right away.
  19. It's been like this every time new GPUs are introduced, and as someone who's been upgrading pretty much every cycle I'm quite used to this. The real problem is that if you don't buy right away the price is going to be jacked up initially by scalpers and later on by the vendors themselves (MSI already did this with their liquid cooling version, what's worse is that retailers such as Amazon, Newegg, etc will also do this). So forget paying MSRP until the craze dies down, and this is why I decide to be an early adopter because I don't want to pay above MSRP.
  20. That's a long time, lol. I'm pretty much ready to do some benchmarkings but not sure if the 4090 numbers will reflect the true performance without the fix. Already have some numbers from the current setup on what I want to test. It's actually fairly easy to fudge the data or introduce errors into the test though. For example, with current 9900K/3090 setup just taking off the headset and place it somewhere will instantly drop the performance (both CPU and GPU frametimes). So this would underestimate the real world performance during actual gameplay when you are wearing the headset. Also if you hit pause to grab the readings in-game, the CPU frametime can drop by a few ms as well thus overestimating the performance. Now these behaviors may or may not happen with faster GPU or CPU, but we'll see since I have both GPU and CPU (5800X3D) coming my way. I won't upgrade my CPU right away so you can have some 9900K data.
  21. The 5800X3D trounces everything at 1080p, but single and multicore performance for day to day use is abysmal by next gen’s standard. I’m not a part of AMD religion but have one coming my way soon. Will crunch some CPU frametime numbers when the rendering resolution is around 6.5 to 7K pixels. I have some reservation about it pushing my rig from average 45 fps to 90 fps tier in VR but let’s see what happens.
  22. The power draw is great, much lower than the 3090Ti. So far the advantages seem to be lower temperature, increased fps via lower CPU and GPU frametimes, as well as reduced power consumption (unless you overclock to above 3000 MHz). I’ll bet the fps goes up more with manual overclocking, at the expense of increased wattage, as CPU isn’t bottlenecking in this mission. The 4090 is more of a 4K and above res card though, so you still won’t see optimal gain at this res.
  23. MSI has decided to raise the MSRP of the 4090 Suprim Liquid X on their store by almost $200. Consider yourself lucky if you already got one of these.
  24. Just pulled the trigger on the Ryzen. Theres a great deal right now on eBay (early Black Fri coupon) from antonline with 20% off. So price came out to be around $377 (tax and shipping included).
  25. That would be nice although I’m still waiting for my 4090, lol. Will definitely need the extra GPU power especially for the upcoming motion smoothing option.
