  1. Here's my Black Shark channel on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/TheGreenGriffon Only uploaded my first few flights while I'm learning to fly, but some funny stuff has already happened.
  2. Yeah, it was very surprising that the aircraft was mostly intact after I hit the ground (no pun intended). I didn't realize until last week that you could script mechanical failures into missions, which is why I never bothered to look in the mission editor when this happened. Just thought it was my newb flying that caused it.
  3. @Doomhawk - Ah, I had no idea. I thought it was something I did. @Nate - Good point. I never saved the track, so I couldn't go back and record what my gauges looked like. I was recording that on-the-fly. However if that particular problem was scripted, then I'm not terribly curious as to how it happened. I just thought it was my flying :)
  4. Hi guys, I'm working on a series of videos for YouTube that show some of my worst mishaps and crashes. I wanted to share these with my friends who are also going through some "growing pains" while they transition from LOMAC to Black Shark. Anyway, in my second video, I crash just before I reach the runway. My main hydraulics were out along the way, then suddenly my pitched bucked upward, and the EKRAN kept saying "danger, engine vibration", followed by an engine fire right afterward that dropped me like a rock. This is the clip (at about 1:20 is when this happens): Any idea what I did to cause this? All I was trying to do was keep her slow and level enough to land. Thanks for any insight, GG
  5. Thanks, I already saw that. I'm looking for actual insight here, not what anyone can find on their homepage, which is less than unhelpful. For example, I took a 200MB WMV video in 1280x720 res as they recommended and uploaded it, and it was downsampled to absolute unviewable grainy garbage. Then I tried a 45MB MP4 file in 640x480 res, and somehow it came out much more crisp and detailed. What gives? Seems the larger the file, the more YouTube will downsample it, so it doesn't pay to follow their advice about leaving it "as close to the source as possible". Or is it just a matter of using a better codec? I'm lost and frustrated trying to figure out the best format for this. EDIT: May have had a breakthrough here, but still testing.
  6. That's because you must have missed this super-duper secret mod thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=34949
  7. Hi guys, I have a series of videos that I would like to start uploading to YouTube, but I'm driving myself crazy trying to make the videos look as sharp as possible. For example, I think GA's videos are incredibly crisp on YouTube, and I'm wondering what the trick is. I tried uploading HD videos, but I guess they are downsampled so much that in the end, they look just as grainy as lower-res ones. Right now I'm using Sony Vegas 9 for my video editing and rendering, but I'm open to rendering my movies with something else if it will yield better results. Sorry for the newb question - I'm just starting into machinima and this kind of thing. Thanks, GG
  8. Hi guys, Nothing groundbreaking, this is just the Russian radio chatter from the Altitude mission compiled together into a single .ogg audio file. I loved how immersive the comm chatter made the beginning of that mission, and wished I could have it playing on demand for other missions, so I made this clip for myself. I adjusted the amplitude and made a few small changes, then added various lengths of silence between them. The total length of the audio clip is almost 4 minutes. I hope the folks at ED won't mind me sharing this with you guys. For a quick demonstration of how it sounds ingame, watch this clip: There are different ways you can use this audio file. 1. If you have an Ogg Vorbis plugin for Windows Media Player, you can just have it looping in the background while you play DCS, which is how I've been doing it. 2. You can add this to your "Radio Mayak" folder and tune to that frequency. I'm not sure how to do it off the top of my head, but it's easy and there are several threads about it. 3. You can insert this audio file directly into your missions and set it to play with triggers. Enjoy, GG radiochatter_all.zip
  9. ...and any A-10 player who loses a multiplayer engagement to a KA-50 automatically gets his name put up on a "DCS Wall of Shame" for all to ridicule :)
  10. Finally, they thought of us X45-ers. Thanks for the heads-up!
  11. Thanks very much!
  12. Great job Moose - your effort is very appreciated.
  13. I have yet to go up against an Apache, but I thought I read something in the manual about setting your missiles in the "Head On" engagement mode or something like that. The one where the missile will detonate earlier if something is closing distance with you, rather than a splitsecond later where it might be too late to result in a kill. Am I crazy, or did I actually read something like that?
  14. Hopefully from behind a desk and not a steering column.
  15. Somebody's gonna be cleaning latrines for a long time after that stunt.
  16. I was sort of wondering the same thing, and may try that out later tonight. If that doesn't work, I happen to be one of the many impatient people who bought the Russian version, followed by the English one a few weeks later. I figured I could just install the Russian version on my second desktop for my buddy. It would be a shame for that license to go to waste. Hopefully the two versions can communicate with one another in multiplayer.
  17. What a great idea! No better person to start it than the person who keeps asking for it.
  18. Look no further my friend: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=34949
  19. C'mon Mitch, stop torturing us and get these skins released....please! :)
  20. That's the thing, it could be anything. Maybe he's running on a lousy driver set, or his HDD is 35% fragmented, or the firmware for his motherboard has problems. Maybe his system tray has 20 items loaded in resident memory. You can have bottlenecks in any number of places. Hardware alone won't dictate your game performance on a PC.
  21. Why in the world would anyone want to see such a complex and deep simulation "dumbed down" for an 8-button gamepad? Unless you have a budget PC or one that is several years old, there's no way the XBox360 should outperform a PC. I would hate to see ED start catering to the console crowd. Their games would suffer for it, just like UBI and many more, and they would likely alienate the hardcore sim fanbase in the process. Simply including a game mode in Black Shark gave me dry heaves.
  22. Well, the mods are just starting to appear, so it's not hard to see what's available so far. You could pretty much run through the few pages of this sub-forum and grab everything. It's mostly skins and small (but useful!) texture tweaks.
  23. A game is one thing, but do we really need to post pictures of real soldiers suffering on fire?
  24. Call me crazy, but I think the whole point of the textures is that the tiles are old and misaligned a bit. Great work Dragon!
  25. I found one entry for it. "Suffered non-lethal SAM hit" = "I just shat myself"
