A general question though. I understand that, while DCS is loading it must go online as it checks for updates, but is something going on online while I am playing in single player? I ask because I think I understand that Defender is looking at protecting the PC from crap coming in from the web. So why were all the exclusions affecting how it flys if I am playing within my PC?

DCS will only update when you run the shortcut. So no updates per se while flying. However DCS may, for example, compile a shader that you do not already have compiled. Depending on system and how many shaders, it may take a moment. Those exceptions stop the security software from scanning those folders. The idea is the security software will check the file, go online to check a database of known badness, and then continue. It could be other things but this explains why the exceptions make it faster and no stuttering.

    So your sure it's safe?

unless the remotely outside chance that you have a rouge version of DCS, yes it is safe. there are literally thousands of DCS users that do not have problems.

One thing I have noticed is that the drops seem to be associated with the yellow line in the performance monitor, what does that line represent? I couldn't find any notes on it anywhere

"yellow line in the performance monitor" do you mean in DCS? or windows perfmon? DCS it means GPU present frame time. (i think)

i see you have malwarebytes. sometimes malwarebytes can be a little firm. it is in its nature to be firm. better safe than sorry. i suspect is is trying to create a cookie like for language.

malwarebytes may be affecting DCS too. some people report false positive results from the security software.

    Hello,

I know we are going to 1 version soon, but I am afraid I will have issues. My DCS world directory is on D:, I have no DCS.openbeta directory.

In my user\saved games I do have 2 folders for DCS, DCS and DCS.openbeta. My DCS folder has 16 subfolders (with liveries and such). My open beta directory has only 3. Should I just copy the 13 (not the ones I already have) from the regular DCS to the dcs.openbeta folder?

when you are about to do the update, rename each saved games folder to .BAK. run the update and let it do what the updater wants to do. you really do not have much choice i suppose. you can always repair the DCS installation. when it is done, run DCS. a new Saved Games folder will be created. then copy all the old Saved Games folders you want over to new folder.

before you start take note of the Saved Games folder that has the newest date on it.

also open and examine the file dcs_variant.txt found in the install folder (where mine is) \Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta. do a properties on your shortcut you use to start DCS. this will tell you exactly.

    Hi everyone.

Hoping someone can help, I am completely at a loss.

DCS MT version was working flawlessly up to about the 8th of February when it just started glitching like crazy in MP. Switched over to ST and that helped for a few days. Since about the 15th I have been have massive lag spikes freezing the game for up 30 seconds in some cases...so for the last 5 days I have been down the rabbit hole.

To start, I had no mods installed during this testing... I have removed everything, and it made no difference. The tests today were done using the Raven 1 Campaign - Mission 1, which was working flawlessly up to a few days ago when I found out Viacom causes issues. Removed it and DCS performance got worse.
I have made no changes to my setup, no new or strange mods, everything I have worked flawlessly at MAX settings. I was flying almost daily with no issues. Also, no other games on my pc have any issues, only DCS.
So here is what I have tried:

    - Capped FPS at 120  -  No change
    - Capped fps at 90  -  No change
    - Core Park thing(can't remember the name)  -  All cores unparked and ready to go  -  No change
    - Hotplug Off  -  No Change (Last test, I switched it back on during the test and no change)
    - Power services disabled  -  No Change
    - Affinity trick for the processor  -  No change in ST but a tiny improvement in MT (Could fly a few more minutes before it went to lag-hell)
    - Page File  -  As massive as I could make it, as well as standard  -  No changes
    - Root Enumerator trick  -  No change (Also mention in another thread)
    - DCS in Full Screen vs Windowed  -  No Change at all
    - Anisotropic Filtering set to 8/4/2  -  No Change
    - Textures to Med  -  No Change
    - Deep repair  -  No difference
    - renaming saved games folder and letting it generate a new version  -  No change
    - Process Lasso installed  -  changes had No effect

I am all out of ideas here...Please can anyone help?

Windows and all drivers are up to date. All peripherals are the same as they have been for months, even in the same ports.
    Ryzen 9 5950X 16 Core - NVidia Geforce RTX 3090  -  64Gb Ram

    EDITs:
I have also done the Spudknocker fix excluding DCS and all related programs from Defender.
Tacview was disabled too (Usually the cause of this issue so the first thing I do).
After running MT, my whole pc lags after exiting DCS, needing a restart to get it functional again. Only program to cause this issue,

yikes a lot to digest here. i think it is best to go slow. i looked at your log and see you have no AA. change to DLAA. beware of ghosting. also post screenshots of your Nvidia settings.

6-8 months ago I thought my 4 yr old Alienware was needing some upgrades. I used to notice in a few missions w/ a lot of planes moving around on carrier or airfield or w/ a bunch flying, I'd get some lags/stutters. But it usually went away a few minutes after takeoff. Then 2.9 stable effed dang near everything. I have a mission Battle for the Docks where the only thing moving other than my plane is a few cars on the airfield perimeter road. And I get stutters and actual 2-3-4 second pauses taxiing to the runway. I have done a few of the fixes, turned down or off some graphics settings recommended in a thread by BigNewey, dropped max fps to 120. Dropped from the medium to the low graphics setting. DCS is somewhat better now but sure wish I hadn't gone to 2.9. So a few Qs to try to see if some internal desktop upgrade might help.

hello. post the suspect mission. others can try it to see and share their results.

1- I see mentions of flying in either MT or ST. I guess MT is multi threading? IDK. Several posters say MT sucks while all is well in ST but I have no idea where I can choose one or the other.

MT will eventually be the only version. so i suggest using it and posting problems you encounter. thanks @rob10 for typo!

2- No way to spend $2500 on a new PC and I have seen some comments indicating that newer higher performance PCs than mine are having similar problems anyway so....

post your current specs. we can see if anything is amiss as far as below system requirements for DCS.

3- How do I get real time #s on graphics and main processor (and whatever else is important) performance? Maybe I need to upgrade one or the other or?

4- A couple of weeks ago I saw my PC has 16 of ram so bought another 16 stick only to find out my 16 is actually two 8s so I need to buy another 16 stick. Due to my lack of experience I bought Dell guaranteed to be compatible ram at $130 for the 16 and of course now I see I could have gotten two 16s from Crucial for <$100. Should I buy another Dell 16 or shelve the one I have and buy Crucial? I have seen quite a few people mention their PC specs in a thread and now I am thinking maybe extra ram won't really do me much good?

generally, in my experience, it is best to get two exact matches of DIMMS / SODIMMS. so two compatible dell or crucial that are the same. RAM does do good. the more the better. i have an alienware from early 2021. i bit the bullet and got 128 GB. i do not have memory related issues. of course i could have went with overkill. but i had the money. i also have 32 GB pagefile.

5- I have seen threads about turning off a processor core and then turning it back on? In the bios? That is way beyond my ability and I don't think I should have to do things like that to play DCS when my PC works just fine for everything else. I think DCS should fix whatever is causing so many people to have the same problem. I understand DCS could have a tough time making something work on 1000s of different PCs but mine is a pretty run of the mill standard machine from a mainstream manufacturer so whatever testing they did certainly seems nowhere near enough to me. I understand that like all electronics, things need to upgrade periodically  so I understand and am willing to do some things. If I saw some big improvements w/ 2.9 but my PC is old enough to not be able to take advantage of some of them fine. But I see NOTHING OTHER THAN PROBLEMS and I am far from the only one experiencing these problems. I  hope they will figure out a fix.

for the rant 😉 see answer 2. and also add exceptions to your AV software. there is lots of other tidbits but lets go slow.

So a friend of mine recently sent me a video by Spudknocker that proposes a simple fix for stutter in DCS 2.9 related to Windows Defender. I'll link it below. Just for the record I have tried what he suggests and there appears to be improvements in game/stutter.

The TLDR for the video is to make some scan exemptions for Windows Defender related to DCS. I also included an exception for my Steam folder because I have an Index and wanted to include SteamVR in his solution. As always YMMV.

i personally made the exceptions because it was mentioned in other posts. my loading times went from 2 minutes plus to under 30 seconds. i have since suggested adding exceptions to any AV. however before watching this video, i had only the DCS install folder as an exception. i have since added the TrackIR install folder, the APPDATA TrackIR folder, DCS Saved Games folder. thanks to you and Spudknocker.

DEFINITELY SIM MODE.  The issue is when I first jump into a plane, ANY PLANE it all works perfectly. It is only after I get shot down (or maybe ANYTIME I SWITCH CLIENT AIRCRAFT...haven't checked) it stops working. So no issues up until the aircraft switch. And, as mentioned, if I go into the CONTROLS SCREEN, even when it stops working in game,  it all shows that it works there. SIMAPPRO is probably running in the background, but shouldn't matter as this is the way I have always flown. I will try shutting it down completely next time.

roger. next time it happens upload the DCS.LOG from that session. maybe some clues.

another thing i noticed. for some reason the date / time code on some folders / files in the CONFIG folder get changed. even when i did not change anything myself. for kicks, check to see if your system does this when the issue happens.

Lately I have been seeing something VERY ODD. I have the CORRECT PTT/Call Radio Menu comms button set on my HOTAS (the one that brings up COMM1 or COMM2 for AI comms...  RALT-\, RCTRL-\  for the F/A-18, e.g.

Everything works perfectly.  In Multiplayer, if I get shot down and spawn into another aircraft (either the same one I was flying as a RESPAWN or a totally different available CLIENT)  My HOTAS COMM1 and COMM2 buttons don't work any more.

    - I can go to ADJUST CONTROLS and verify that the bindings are good (Using the HOTAS control highlights the appropriate commands)

    - I can use the keyboard equivalent in game and it brings up the menus perfectly.

    - FOR SOME REASON,  JUST THE HOTAS controls just no longer function in game.

    - EVERY OTHER HOTAS CONTROL WORKS PERFECTLY AS FAR AS I CAN TELL.

WINWING ORION2 Throttle with F-15EX grips + WINWING ORION 1 F/A-18 stick.  The comm switches I use are on the THROTTLE.

I did a REPAIR and nothing changed.  As far as I can tell it ONLY happens in MP under the conditions described.

hello. this is going to sound dumb and likely not the issue. but are you in GAME mode or SIM mode?

another idea. since you have winwing, is there any winwing software running? could be that too.

    weird issue either way.

  11. @Flapjacks in NCP the only things i see different between us

    These are in NCP

Antialiasing Mode should be Application Controlled. this lets DCS handle it.

Max Frame Rate OFF. in DCS settings use ON and set at 120.

Texture filtering - Quality is set to QUALITY. try HIGH PERFORMANCE.

let us know how it goes.

    With pleasure.

Edit: What I am talking about are lines next to the cockpit frame that are just to the right. They originate where the rear sliding cockpit portion would connect to the front cockpit frame when it is closed. The lines are easiest to see when looking at the grass just right of the cockpit frame. These lines appear in many moving situations, the yoke stick moving, adjusting the throttle or collective, the helmet hook on the AH-64, All types of cockpit related movement cause them. It's persistent in all aircraft.

as i suspected. the effect is caused by TAA or FSR or a combination of both. visual artefacts but better performance. try DLAA instead. FSR with TAA will cause ghosting.

have a look at this post.

I recently started playing the MT version on a regular basis. Overall it's an improvement. One thing that I've noticed and can not find a setting to make it go away is some ghost type images when I move my head. See pictures. I've noticed this on all aircraft I fly. The image in the examples I've posted are of the P-47 cockpit frame. The lines are coming from the frame when I move my head.

Except TMS doesn't exactly seem to always go back to the steerpoint the first time.  I think it just unlocks it from inertial/point tracking mode,  but it also seems to move it somewhere sometimes.  And the mask warning still doesn't work right at all.

yes. as i noted there is likely a hard stop on the development of the TGP. it would be inefficient to continue fixing something that is incorrect in the first place. though i am not one of the devs, it just makes sense to me and only my opinion.

So I've had extremely bad framerates for months now and I've been chalking it up to the 2.9 patch, but figured I'd ask to see if possibly it was on my end. My fps is at like 7-10 fps on the ground and low 20's in air. It's the same on both Openbeta, MT Openbeta and Stable (which I have on two difference drives) as well as multiplayer and single player. I don't have any mods anymore I don't think, I've turned off tacview, graphic settings are low, vsync is off as well. Drivers are up to date. I've gone through all kinds of tips and tricks that I've read on a couple of the 2.9 problems posts (power management settings, Nividia control panel settings, etc), I've run slow repairs, deleted fxo and metashader folders. dxdiag and device manager says no problems found with my gpu. I know I need more ram btw (16 gb) but it never ran this bad before. Is there at least any way to check if the problem is on my end or not?

    you may see ghosting

    Hi,

one thing that improved the ghosting for me was to replace the nvngx_dlss.dll file in the Mt-bin directory with the latest version from NVidia.

The version in DCS seems to be 3.5.0, but the latest version I’d 3.5.10.

    I got the file from:
    https://github.com/NVIDIA/DLSS/tree/2aa0b2c9d07995f517561ab6bbef60308bc7eb3a/lib/Windows_x86_64/rel

just back up the original so you can go back if things don’t go so well 🙂

easy to try and revert if necessary.

  18. @RPY Variable all vids and such are old for the TGP now so it is difficult to get how it all works. at some point it was brought to someone's attention that the TGP was not correctly modelled for the F-16. my guess is the nose-to-the-grindstone development was slowed. this post has some info..

but frederf explains it pretty well from a couple years ago.

On 3/1/2022 at 11:23 PM, Frederf said:

CZ and the sighting point rotary are the same wherever they're found. It doesn't matter where you activate it (FCR or TGP), they all do the same thing. When you slew a sensor away from a steerpoint you introduce slews into the system which stay until erased. CZ eliminates all the slews in the system. TMS down in TGP you'll notice puts the sensor back onto the steerpoint, that's CZ too.

The "TGT" shows what the current sighting point is. Sighting point is the place your sensor is looking at which can be different than the target. For the most part you won't have to worry about it. Depending on the situation this can be "TGT" for target or "STP" which is basically "TGT" for non-attack modes, "OA1" or "OA2" for OAPs, "IP" or "RP" in VIP or VRP modes, and even blank for situations where there is no sighting point allowed like in snowplow. A lot of the time if you don't do special preparation you won't have any options for sighting point except the one (usually STP or TGT or blank).

TMS right is area track. Except when Maverick missiles are active it does something else, commanding a reattempted missile handoff.

All sensors are slaved to the same point at all times. When you move one the others move too. AG modes fall into two categories: visual and preplanned. Visual there's no way to put sensors back to steerpoint because visual attack modes are not steerpoint-centric. In preplanned modes, CZ.

we are a year into the redoing the pod announcement so we have to work with what we have for i am guessing a while.

    1. Spawn Carrier with Parked player aircraft + AI helicopters and Harriers on deck
    2. Attempt to take off from carrier (Finding there isn't an ATC call to make and ground crew Request launch doesn't clear decks.
    3. Take off (usually using a just about clear catapult)
    4. Do Radio calls to Carrier to Land (Observe Helos de-spawn but Harriers stay in place on the arrestor gear)
    5. Crash into harriers

    Expected behaviour:

    • Either Radio call or automatic deck clearing when connecting to catapults
    • Harriers de-spawning when landing setup is needed via radio
    • (Bonus) Re-organise aircraft on deck to clear needed areas but still show on deck if possible.

guns guns guns! lol seriously. i bet this is random AI lollygagging. not sure there is much you can do about it. i am surprised that a harrier is landing on a CVN. maybe add a tarawa for the harriers to use? i will try the mission to see what i get.
