    DCS 2.9.4.53549

The latest update (before the hotfix) includes the item below, but where in the menus is it? I looked in my control settings and was unable to change a joystick name.

GUI. When the user edit the joystick name and pressing <ENTER> (as suggested by tooltip), OPTIONS window closes - fixed.

hello. when in options on whatever AC you have shown, doubleclick on the joystick column header. then type whatever you want. then save.

I know there is a bug associated to crashing that should be updated soon but when I went to look for it in the dump file, I couldn't find it. I honestly don't know where to go from here.

    hello. check this post.

the last error prior to the crash

2024-04-08 14:54:40.653 WARNING BACKENDCOMMON (4456): Need to reprocess [DDS] image '/textures/iso_container_n.dds'

    Simpler:

    1. Browse to Saved Games.
    2. Rename your current DCS.openbeta folder into "DCS.openbeta.bak" (do NOT delete it).
    3. Run DCS: it will create a virgin DCS.openbeta folder.
    4. Exit DCS.

Your custom controls are stored in DCS.openbeta.bak/Config/Input.

Now, simply copy this Input folder into the new DCS.openbeta/Config folder in order to retrieve your controls.

Then find out if DCS keeps crashing.

doing the rename will effective cause DCS to recompile shaders.

Thanks for the advice! It solved the "mobile mode" problem, but not the VR-problem 😞

I'm using the Quest 3 headset. Any more advices is greatly appreaciated!

hello. the quest problem is supposed to be corrected in the next patch for DCS. the version meta patch v63 is causing the problem. if you are able to roll back to v62, give it a shot.

    Hiya,

this started occurring a few days ago. Does this need a fix from ED or is it a specific computer issue? Oculus Rift, 4080, no issues with Il-2.

Checked various threads but could not see a solution.

hello. currently, and hopefully fixed by next update, oculus patched / updated their end which broke interface with DCS.

search for "DCS PTC v63 update"

Pleas help me! It worked fine a couple of weeks ago, and i don't know if the latest update did it or what i did, but no i cant fly

hello. this could be an issue within your saved games folder. one never has to reinstall DCS. running a repair will essentially reinstall anything amiss. what VR headset do you use?

Fixed it. Appears there were two problems here:

    1. OpenXR runtime was set to WMR. For some reason, because of this, MT Preview always started in the flat screen mode. Runtime can be reset to SteamVR from the SteamVR settings (accessible from the SteamVR status window). I'm actually not 100% sure this step was necessary, because after it, MT Preview still had the same problem it had for me: no picture rendered in the headset.
    2. A second display was connected to a different GPU than my VR was. I'm using an HDMI dummy plug to fake having multiple displays when I'm working in VR. Pulling it out and only having one display connected to the same GPU VR was connected to solved the issue for me. Maybe wrong display and so wrong GPU was assigned to DCS somehow?

good to hear. you should mark your post as solution. perhaps it will help another user.

The issue probably happened with the last update (I recall VR working in DCS just fine 1-2 weeks ago). I can't get DCS to launch in VR at all anymore. If I try to launch MT Preview, it always launches flat-screen (the window appears to be sized for VR but doesn't show VR view, i.e., is flat and doesn't move with my head, see screenshot 1). I also tried adding --force_enable_VR and --force_OpenXR to the command line and using "Launch MT Preview in Steam VR mode" options, to no avail. If I launch it without MT Preview, but in Steam VR mode, it launches Steam VR, and the window shows proper VR view, but my headset doesn't show the view from the game (see screenshot 2).

OS Windows 10, headset HP Reverb G2, DCS openbeta Steam version

    Can you help me please?

hello. please post dcs.log for analysis.

Hi ! I don't know if this is still active post, but I have to say in 2024  version 2.9 dcs I have stuttering every 5-10 seconds without fps drops  ( steady 120fps ) when using dcs bios script.  If I rename scripts to scripts.bak all stutters are gone

    My specs

    10900k

    64gb ram

    Rtx4080

    Ssd m2

    Trackir 5

175hz 1440p ultra wide samsung g8 oled monitor

    Windows 10

I'm disappointed because I made by myself a right console  that has cdu, caution panel and switches and I can't use it properly because of stutters so I have it hang in my right side peacefully...

hello. indeed this is an old post. 4 years later. you should start a new topic since this one is so old.

however there are lots of active post with the same symptoms as you. some people have an issue and others do not. no magic bullet that i know.

Wow.  That's quite a lot of RAM.  Is 128GB required to run DCS these days? I suspect you'll have no problem running it.   Since I posted this the first time, I've found some replays will run, and others crash.  What's really odd is it's the shorter replays that crashed.  Little rhyme or reason to when it works and when it doesn't.

there have been so many users over the years that have too little RAM. more users are getting defacto 64 GB. there have been mentions of an MP session will use about 50 GB.

i am not sure why some missions / tracks work and some do not. the history of tracks in DCS is foggy at best. the track system was never meant to be for content creation. rather it was meant as a troubleshooting tool.

When I try to install the mirage 1 module I'm getting the following error message: error: version 2.9.3.51704 is not available - see attached log file. I have the latest version.

I ran into this thread thread and it looks like I have two updater instances running, but I'm unable to end one of them in time. Any ideas?

hello. it is definitely something weird.

00001.811 ERROR: Version 2.9.3.51704 is not available.

also check to see if there is anything in the folder \Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\_downloads\ and delete. then do a long repair of DCS?

Something else that seems odd about that log entry is, 176925783632  bytes is roughly 176GB.   That seems unreasonably high and I suspect there is something wrong with what's generating that log.  But I can believe it's a memory problem.

yes a lot of commas in that number. i think you are correct that the number in the log is askew. see if you can share the reply. i can see what my machine does. i have 128 GB RAM and a 32 GB pagefile.

There is definitely a difference after turning off DCS from the antivirus, now loading is faster and the game is much more stable, I recommend this video to everyone who has a problem, they should watch it and solve the problems this way 🍷

    Glad to help.

No.  It's a replay generated from a recent session using the current version of DCS.  I know other DCS users who are experiencing the same problem.  Log from crash attached.

    hello again.

    looks like not enough memory.

2024-04-03 23:18:09.930 INFO    APP (Main): CPU cores: 8, threads: 8, System RAM: 32688 MB, Pagefile: 4864 MB

you should either get more memory or set a 32 GB pagefile.

On the second day, the DCS freezes, it happens when I take off for a few minutes, here is the log, after that DCS doesn't crash, just keep going

hello. the last line of your log

2024-04-03 11:16:09.788 INFO    APP (Main): application shutdown

did you actually initiate the application shutdown of DCS? there is nothing outwardly odd in your dcs.log.

i think this is your AV blocking? can you add exceptions to your AV software?

    also look here.

    good luck.

Hello, I am starting the game from steam and it instantly crashes no error codes just shutdowns. when i deleted the fxo and metashaders folders it opened and asked me to sign in, i signed in closed the game and reopened but it is not opening again. I redownloaded the game but it didnt helped. My account is not binded to the dcs account aswell.

hello. this is likely a problem with DCS vs VR. DCS is being picky with Oculus now too.

    see if this will help.

Hi All, I have a small internal SSD drive which is over 80% full. I'd like to buy new maps, but these require much more free space than I currently have. So, I'm ready to buy a new large SSD external drive. But can I install these new map on that new external drive ? Thanks for your help.

it is not recommended to use external USB for DCS. however you can get through it possibly by using sim links.

Ever since the upgrade to 2.9, when trying to play a replay, DCS crashes.  Each time I've allowed it to send a bug report.  I know others are seeing this problem.  What's going on?

hello. are you trying a track that was created with the current revision of DCS? if you are trying a track from a previous revision, it is likely your issue.

also if you want, post your DCS.LOG file for analysis.

Okay, here's the track up to where the band is seen. I noticed that it was less as I moved my POV around and became prominate when fixed on the area.

well i learned something new today. i cannot even play the track unless i paid for the campaign. can you create a mission with the anomaly between the two waypoints with F-16? or coordinates?

  20. 11 hours ago, PacFlyer23 said:

It's Operation Persian Freedom's "The Battle of Qeshm" mission going from WP 2 to WP3.

i do not have that mission. but you can fly the mission to the point you start seeing the effect. quit the mission and save the track. then post it here. i can load it to see what i see.

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post, but I'm having an issue with replays.  My system: i9-13900, 64GB ram, rtx4090, 2tb samsung ssd, pimax 8kx.  When I view replays (on my monitor), the view often zooms in.  The point of view continues to move, replicating my head movements during play, but the view is zoomed in.  I can zoom out using the / key, but then the point of view is stationary unless I use the number keys to pan, tilt, and rotate.  The view is no longer controlled by whatever I was looking at when I played the mission.  Is there something I'm doing while playing that's causing this?  Sometimes it doesn't happen until an hour or more into the replay and at other times soon after first wheels up.  I would like to make some videos, but I would like to show the pilot perspective.  Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

if i am understanding, an hour long track has little chance of being free of "corruption". meaning the ending maybe does not happen the same as what really happened. the shorter they are, the more reliable. i have seen my own tracks do great all way to final for landing, and i crash into the trees. i am not sure how to fix. i personally think content creators film like a motion picture would do it. they would not do it in one take. they also have others in ac being sort of a chase plane somewhere on the map. but i do not do it myself. i could totally incorrect.

before running DCS, unplug your controllers. run DCS. you start the track. being that you have no input devices, something will not "take control" of track. this is what i do anyway.

  22. 10 hours ago, PacFlyer23 said:

So this may be a mission map specific issue. I just started a new mission in the Operation Persian Freedom Campaign and there's no banding in the water at the coast line.

interesting. thanks for the update. what was the map in your earlier examples? i just thought of something. maybe do a short track of the anomaly and post it. i can try to see if i can see the effect.
