  1. I have everything on SSD. No HDDs. Preloading radius is at 0.
  2. I can't connect to ANY MP server listed in DCS. More precisely, I can connect until the list of aircrafts and users is shown where I am supposed to select the aircraft I want to fly. However I get an hourglass and it loads and loads and loads and in the end either DCS just exits to desktop or I get a crash report. This happens with any server I try - not matter how many players are on and how high/low the ping is. DCS does I have been playing SP campaigns with the A-10C since May 2018 and I wanted to start flying with others. I read the dedicated server posts from ED. I'm not sure if this would address the issues I have. ------------------------------------------------------------ i7 6700K, 1080Ti, VR Oculus Rift, 16GB RAM, SSD
  3. Thanks! Will do.
  4. RE: find/remove unused/disabled triggered actions. Misunderstanding again :-) I meant the triggered actions which can configured for units and then referenced with for example AI TASK PUSH. Also VO files are not removed as long as there is a triggered action referencing it, even though it's disabled/unused. I would like to have a function to remove those artefacts. But let's please put aside the arguing of the usability (or lack thereof) of ME features for a moment. As I stated with my initial post, my main concern is what ED's standpoint would be of an external tool being able to read, parse and update mission files. Would they be ok with such a tool or would they take measures against? Would they be willing to share information about the mission file format to help creating those tools? Who could answer those questions? What would be the proper channel to get this clarified? I would love to have an official statement from an ED representative.
  5. find/remove unreferenced audio files - this is a default behavior - Oh nice. Must have beem a user error by myself, when I experienced this. find/remove unreferenced/disabled trigger actions - this is a default behavior - Interesting. Where is this function to find unused/disabled trigger actions? Would love to use that, but cannot find it. find logical issues with triggers/flags (e.g. triggers which will never be true) triggers are often more complex than true/false statements. Not sure how you'd accomplish this - Agreed. a good structuring might help. If your mission is non-linear, though, and has some branching and alternatives built in, you are pretty much lost with the ME. The usual solution to that shortcoming is doing this with external tools, but then good luck with keeping those external documents in sync with the actual mission. Some quick-win check at the top of my head would be to show me any triggers waiting for flags to be set when there is no other action setting this particular flag for instance. That should be easily implemented. I can come up with a few more checks like those. (It would also be nice to double click on a trigger condition; eg. FLAG 120 set to true and ME navigates me to the action which actually sets this FLAG to true. It would be near to impossible when lua scripts are involved ofc, but usual trigger actions should be working.) build/show tree/path of associated triggers/flags - organizing properly while you build the mission will accomplish this Again, this is non-trivial when dealing with alternative routes and branching. find actions which are triggered by different triggers - such as what? again, organizing and labeling solves this - Same. allow to go through all VOs by playing them while displaying the corresponding text - text is not generated by the VO file, it is written separately by the mission's author. Generally one would organize these into the same trigger. For radio transmissions, they are already in the same place - And still mistakes can be made. Once a mixup is done, you don't have an easy way to show the currently associated texts and VOs. From experience I know that it is difficult to look through all Texts/VO associations within ME. process visible mission text data through spell checker - this would be helpful, but can be done externally. copy/paste retains formatting - Yeah I know and this is the only way to do it right now. Copy&paste is error prone. All manual work is error prone and I like minimizing this. process visible mission text data through translator - same as above allow reordering triggered actions - Already possible by default. I know for a fact that as soon as I reorder one triggered action, its reference within the trigger list is NOT updated. Triggers are referencing trigger actions via their index. If an action is moved (or removed), the trigger simply still points to that index and references a completely different action. Maybe you misunderstood me. I mean actions like AI TASK PUSH or AI TASK SET which reference actions within mission units. allow moving triggered actions to other entities - Not sure why you'd want to do this, but you can copy/paste groups and their actions will carry over - Again, talking about unit actions. And sure, you can move them, but again will loose the reference within the trigger list. allow reordering kneeboard images http://www.dcskneeboardbuilder.com/ or numbering the images will accomplish this - Or sorry I did not mean KNEEBOARD images, but mission briefing images. remove unsupported files from kneeboard - The kneeboard only supports image files. - Still, ME does not prevent user from dropping/selecting unsupported files there. Typical user error: also drop folder with hidden files (desktop.ini) in it. allow to change hidden state of groups matching specific filter criteria - Already possible using filters/sorting in unit list HOW? I'd love to know how to do that. I usually have to double click manually through all of the groups. How can I do that with just a couple clicks for all the items shown in the unit list? check for/fix hidden state of enemy entities - Already possible in unit list You mean by scrolling down (again manually) through the extensive list and look for Status column to show HIDDEN or not? check for/fix hidden state of trigger zones - Already possible in trigger zone list - Again manually? Most of these features already exist...spend a little more time noodling in the ME. I agree that most of the items I mentioned can be achieved in some way or the other with ME. However, I would not call something a feature if it requires manual work by the user. As soon as manual labor is involved, errors are made. We are human after all. If some of those points can really be done automatically by ME, I would love to get more details on how to do it. So far, I could not find this information in the DCS documentation.
  6. During the work with ME I was missing tons of features which would make a mission/campaign designer's life less like hell ;-) I was wondering if anyone is aware of any tools/mods being able to help on this regard. I am mostly interested in consistency checks as well as clean up unnecessary content. Features I am looking for are: find/remove unreferenced audio files find/remove unreferenced/disabled trigger actions find logical issues with triggers/flags (e.g. triggers which will never be true) build/show tree/path of associated triggers/flags find actions which are triggered by different triggers allow to go through all VOs by playing them while displaying the corresponding text process visible mission text data through spell checker process visible mission text data through translator allow reordering triggered actions allow moving triggered actions to other entities allow reordering kneeboard images remove unsupported files from kneeboard allow to change hidden state of groups matching specific filter criteria check for/fix hidden state of enemy entities check for/fix hidden state of trigger zones If there are no tools/mods and if other people might be interested in those features as well, I might try and write something myself. My thought was to create a plugin/mod for the ME. However, I do not have any particular experience with Lua and/or DCS ME modding, so maybe I write some web service or standalone app. What would be the better choice if ME modding would be hard if not impossible to do? My main concern, however, would be if ED would be ok with such a tool or if they might even try to take actions (legal or otherwise) against a program which would be able to read and modify DCS mission files. If ED would welcome something like this, would they be willing to provide a documentation of the miz file format (at this moment, it's pretty much a zip file with readable text files)? Other concerns I have: How often and severe has this mission file format been updated/changed in the past. Are there plans to drastically change it in the foreseeable future?
  7. Hey, why not just expanding the Caucasus map towards Ukraine and Crimea? This area has become pretty hot within recent years.
  8. Not only flying is great in VR. Also driving. I strongly recommend anybody with a VR to try out Dirt Rally. With a proper wheel it is insane.
  9. I started playing DCS and bought Oculus Rift and TrackIR with a 4K 27" monitor at the same time and tried both. Granted you can spot enemies better with the 4K monitor, but it needs some getting used to with the head movement while keeping your eyes on the screen. In VR it feels totally realistic. Ok, the resolution is pretty low, but the immersion is by far the best. I really feel like I am sitting in the planes. Head movements translate perfectly. The sound also adapts to how your had is turned. The downside of immersion is that you will experience some sickness in the first 2 weeks, especially when taxiing. After that time (gradually increasing your play time each day), you won't have any problems. Higher immersion will also make you sweat when engaging in tough fights. Your pulse rate will go way up. As I started with DCS and had to learn the A-10C (bought that module for 10 bucks), I had difficulties acquiring my targets in VR. Sometimes at night, it is still difficult. My usual trick is to either enable labels, get the general area of the enemies and then disable lables again. Alternatively I order my WM to engage targets and slew my cursor to his SPI before I let him rejoin. JTAC is also nice to have. NVG in VR is awesome too. One downside to VR is, you need a high end computer. The performance with DCS is not that great, despite my VR having fewer pixels than my 4K monitor, it still has lower FPS. So after I decided I will fly in VR most of the time, I upgraded my graphics card to a 1080T so that I can fly with steady 45 fps. Nowadays I fly about 3 to 4 hours per day with VR. Sometimes even 12 hours at weekends. My TrackIR is in a closet and I haven't used it in the last 4 months. I am looking forward to DCS putting some man power into optimizing the VR code to increase performance and I am waiting for a new VR model with higher resolution (I don't want more FOV - I just want higher resolution and DCS being able to handle that). One aspect which most players have issue with when flying VR is pushing buttons or turning knobs. It is important to map those UI controls on HOTAS buttons. I use Warthog HOTAS and my setup is as following: Mic Switch Up: VR zoom Paddle button: left mouse click Pinky button + Paddle button: right click button I configured pinky button as Modifier and use it together with stick switches to control NVG, Kneeboard, scrolling, labels, mouse cursor and other functions. I NEVER put my hands off of the HOTAS controls. I don't use the mouse. That said, I've been flying A-10C exclusively and using the cockpit functions with looking at them and then clicking them is easy. I might need to remap the buttons if they are used differently in other planes and I have yet to figure out a good setup for airplanes which have not modelled all buttons to be pressed in the cockpit (FC3).
  10. I created a bug ticket for that one and I got a reply from Wags: "This an aspect of the current cloud technology." After that, the ticket was closed. No mention of a new "cloud technology" being developed. So I guess we have to live with this annoying rotation.
  11. Try hitting LALT+C which enables / disables the cursor.
  12. I think the zoom is quite ok. Going too far in will cause major disorientation when you move your head. Also I have no trouble triggering my other buttons to shoot when zoomed in. I use Mic switch up to zoom in.
  13. You can actually enable and disable the cursor. Standard keyboard shortcut for it is LALT+C. I also mapped a button combination of my HOTAS setup to that option. Go to control settings and search for "mouse". You will find the option "Clickable mouse cockpit mode On/Off"
  14. I created a blank mission, placed player A/C in blue and then placed two buildings (one red, one blue) and set both buildings to HIDDEN. In mission editor the structures did not show on map. However, when saving and starting the mission, I could still see the buildings in-game on the F10 map. My F10 map options are on ALL. Does this F10 option ALL override the HIDDEN flag of the structures? When doing this with units (tanks, planes), I could set them to HIDDEN ON MAP and they were hidden on ME map as well as on F10 map in-game. I have DCS version 2.5.3.23225.
  15. I'm at the final mission right now and flying with NVG in VR is quite easy in DCS 2.5 even in that weather conditions. Just use night mode for HUD and turn down its brightness to the lowest possible value before disabling it. That said, the mission is still very difficult. I tried it 4 times and was shot down by the air defenses around the villa all the time after I shot and killed the target. Jinking does not help so much when 3 or more air defenses shoot at me almost simultaneously. On to another attempt then ....
  16. Having the same issue aus paulca and bolek. Sometimes in the middle of the fight Schaefer is reported KIA (although when looking at the map he was right there with full health bar). I got mad and continuing destroyed everything together with Pontiac and my Wingman. After a while I noticed that a helicopter was on the ground next to the farm house. Schaefer did not move, he just stood behind one house. Why do I get this Schaefer KIA when he is still alive though?
  17. Ok it also works having the VHF2 switch on MAN. You just need to remember to use Mic switch backward when talking to Wingman.
  18. I finally managed to get my Wingman responding. I used VHF2 and set it to 33MHz AM(!) - not FM as specified in the Briefing. Then I used Mic switch backward and he responded. I'm not sure if that is a bug in either ME or the radio of the A-10C. The mission uses a WP trigger action to switch radio to 33 FM, yet it is being switched to AM.
  19. I have been looking into the mission file with ME. Strange thing is: COMM is set to 251 MHz AM as specified in the pdf. Yet there is a WP trigger at WP 0 to set the radio frequency to 33 MHz FM. Also there is a silence on trigger action defined after the chit chat between Ford1-1 and Ford 1-2 about the flat terrain. I don't see a trigger condition though. I don't understand how and when this action is triggered.
  20. Having this silence issue with Mission 8 - Storm before the calm. That is the mission mastersetter was referring to as well. In-game mission briefing specifies Ford radio frequency as FM 33MHz which is pretty weird. I tried setting both VHF radios to that frequency (as well as setting the radios to FM). I get the sine noise from VHF1 and on VHF2 I get silence. Wingman does not talk back. Funny enough, the document "Enemy Within S08.pdf" contained within the campaign files specifies a frequency for Ford of the usual 251 UHF. I'm confused.
  21. I am also having difficulties with this mission. I'm playing at VR and it is quite difficult to spot the enemies. Mission takes place very early in the morning and the whole battle area is still covered in shadows from the surrounding mountains. I can't see the white buildings. Found the mortars and eliminated them though. The approaching convoy is also pretty well hidden. Only by enabling labels (and thereby cheating) I can find them. Still no luck in getting the mission success. Tried it 10 times already. Wingman does not attack anything either.
  22. I fiddled around a bit and figured that manually tuning the frequency solved my issue. This is the first mission where I had to do this manually. In all previous missions this was just done with switching to channel 5. Maybe it is because the selector is set to MNL initially in this mission and on PRESET in the previous ones.
  23. I'm having trouble with mission 6 (GIFTS). At IPM, I switch radio channel to 5 as instructed by Dnepr, but Talon does not talk to me on that channel at all. Total silence. The game recognizes my channel switch as the text message to switch channel to 5 (261) disappears once I did it. Due to Talon not telling me what target I have to hit first, I just pick one myself. As soon as I destroy the target, I get radioed that I do not have permission to attack and the mission fails. I tried this multiple times with different targets. So I am stuck and cannot continue with this otherwise pretty cool campaign.
  24. This seems to be an OpenBeta 2.5 issue with the latest update. I have the Warthog HOTAS Stick&Throttle. After I started the OpenBeta today and the latest update was automatically installed, the A-10C does not respond to my throttle inputs anymore. I checked the controller bindings, everything ok. I can change the throttle input and the white bar beneath the control in the inbput control settings does correctly show the input on JOY_Z and JOY_RZ. However, the throttle in the A-10C cockpit does not move at all. So I cannot get the engine started and cannot do anything. I double checked other throttle input settings and nothing else was assigned in A-10C Sim. All columns cleared. No mouse mappings, no keyboard mappings, nothing. I made sure of it. Yet the throttles still don't work. With DCS 2.5.0 the throttle still works as it should be. Anyone else having this issue and know how to fix it? My specs: Warthog HOTAS Stick&Throttle, G910 Keyboard, Razer DeathAdder Elite, Thrustmaster TFRP Rudder, i5 6700 4GHz, 512 GB SSD, 16GB RAM, GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, TrackIr 5, Oculus Rift, 4K 28" Acer Monitor
