  1. Thoughts to date... Still VERY much a work in progress, but I think I've settled on 1080p/60fps as the sweet-spot for rendering and publishing. I think the in-game frame-by-frame-from-track rendering is brilliant...but finicky. Anything more than a minute long I find crashes DCS. 30fps tests have been decent, but 60 is noticeably smoother. 4k vs 1080 tests have given me limited detail improvement with MASSIVE processing overhead. I think DCS is a combat-aviation-film-maker-wannabe's dream come true. Thank you ED!!! All thoughts and pearls of wisdom are welcome as I continue to experiment. Cheers!
  2. :music_whistling: Mud Hen drivers had no choice. Mig's 'n' Su's just crashed their party (out of frame). :) Follow-up clips soon!
  3. Saint's work-in-progress. (See YouTube descripton..)
  4. Correct. Bonus 'bucks' can only be applied to non-sale items. Even then I think there are a couple of modules that don't participate in the bonus program. I'm snagging everything I want during the sale (last one this calendar year). Fortunately, I have quite a few bonus bucks to apply to Persian Gulf, but even then it's 30% max. off the purchase price.
  5. UPDATE: Decided to be somewhat restrained. Limited my new air-frames to FC3 and Harrier. If I'm going to tackle several study modules, I've decided to limit them to the same...family. Conversion-training between them will be somewhat lessened if I stick with US/western/UK birds; sharing a lot of the same systems, weapons, etc. When Tomcat and Mud Hen are released, they'll make fine additions to my Hog, Hornet, and Harrier. :) Also snagged Nevada during this sale. Only played around the Strip so far, but am very pleased. Now if I can only stay strong between now and the end of the sale. :pilotfly:
  6. Just noticed after watching my Oh! CANADA! vid for the um-teenth time, that the marking on the Canadian skin of the tail boom is "Canadian Force"...pretty sure it should be "Canadian Forces". See 0:29s into vid below. Thanks! Sincerely, Canuck Saint ;)
  7. Yessirree Bob!!! Had been checking "the store" daily for weeks hoping for a sale after my original buys (below + all associated non-Nevada campaigns). Looks like only Hornet, the new M-2000C Red Flag campaign & the Persian Gulf terrain are the only things NOT on sale. Bonus points aren't applicable on the sale items. Either way, my PayPal's about to take a serious beating! Even though I already have F-15C, FC3's now a no-brainer at half price. Now I have to decide if I can explain Harrier, Mirage, Viggen, Huey, F-5, Nevada, and a boatload of campaigns in a single order to my higher-authority. ;) Persian Gulf and Mirage Red Flag will be in a second, points-eligible, order. Third and final order will be for me to sleep in the dog house...
  8. Actually been checking "the store" daily hoping for a long-overdue sale. Woot! Thank you!!!
  9. I don't think they would have teased if licensing hadn't been finalized. I suspect the "something else" is a bit more polish on the South Atlantic terrain and a couple Falklands-era FC3-level aircraft modules. They'll all be early access, but may have had a few really-rough spots to fix before releasing as betas.
  10. Hey R'9. Welcome back! :) Sorry to hear of your delayed retirement. I'm another...life-experienced individual; semi-retired and slowly easing into DCS after witnessing the huge advancements in the past year. I consider myself a life-long gamer and once-upon-a-time hardcore simmer. Except for the later Falcon iterations, hardcore today is a totally different beast than the golden years (late 80's - late 90's, for me) of PC flight sims. I'm not all-in/pot-committed in becoming proficient in the study-level aircraft, but I LOVE the level of detail and options they provide when the flight-sim section of my aging OCD brain takes hold from time to time. ;) All the best!
  11. :megalol: I was happily reading through this "new" thread; planning "me too" type welcome reply, thinking your thread had just started. THEN I read which DCS version you were currently considering! Had to stop and reply. Will now continue reading the remaining replys and submit my current welcome in the correct context. :)
  12. I was only half-serious, but THANKS! for the chime-in Prowler. Much appreciated. All hope is not lost...
  13. OK, now this is to the point of being cruel. We're coming on 7(!) days since the initial tease now. :surrender:
  14. Hey Dave', et al. Well, after a few hours of trial, error, net-search, and wash/rinse/repeat, I was successful in getting left and right MFD's displayed separately on my two smaller monitors. NotePad++ is my new best friend...after pulling my hair out trying to edit and save .lua files in Notepad! While it was 'cool', for me personally the extra monitors (with their redundant, albeit persistent and enlarged display) took away from the immersion. They also added immensely to living room clutter (portable couch-pit), and required me to run DCS in windowed  mode and in a lower resolution to make the .lua edit calculations easier. Now I'm off to edit my view-key-bindings to make it as natural as possible to zoom in on the MDF's on my now one-and-only display. Best of luck in finding your own comfort zone(s). Cheers!
  15. Downloading as I type. Bye bye Hornet pylons! :) ...40 peers, 1.2 MB/s...
  16. Hey Dave'. I've been musing and mulling multi-monitor for a few days. My main, and currently only, display is a 65" 4k TV which I sit approximately 8 feet away from. I'm running DCS in 1080p to show mercy to my ancient GTX 960. :smilewink: I have a couple of decent 19" 1080p Dells kicking around that I'm considering setting up as dedicated MFD's. I've surfed the forum and get the impression that 'programming' DCS to get any particular desired multi-monitor output is not for the faint of heart, or the lazy...like me. I'm leaning toward the status quo and just HOTAS-panning and -zooming around the cockpit and mousing input when necessary. My initial thought is that this is the most 'realistic' and natural. Then, I consider my physical HOTAS in front of me while I pan around the cockpit...seeing the virtual throttle and stick in the foreground of the physical ones. This creates a minor immersional disconnect, but a necessary one from an input perspective. Ironically, the physical HOTAS is critical for immersion! Guess I'll give the multi-setup a try and see how it goes. Cheers!
  17. Hey FL. Doing a forum search, or even a Google on topic, yields scantly results. I have a HOTAS setup but keep it 'stowed' and sometimes just want to fire up DCS to check a setting change or explore options. As a result I frequent 'fly' with the keyboard. Bank left/right works as you'd expect, deflecting the control surfaces as long as you keep the key pressed, but then re-centering when the key is released. Pitch, for some bizarre reason, acts that way half the time; otherwise it acts like a trim setting and the control surfaces stay deflected when the key is released. I can't find any literature that gets into the nuts and bolts of keyboard flight control in DCS, and only a few anecdotes that echo the problem. Sorry I can't shed more light. PS Welcome aboard!
  18. Haven't even scratched the combat systems' surfaces on either. Still kickin' tires and lightin' fires. Ooops, sorry. No fire (AB) for the Hog. ;) Enjoying the feel of both, but will probably 'train' in the Hog until more work is complete on the Hornet. Despite its early-access state, if I could only own one module it would be the F-18 hands down. So many more mission options for multi-role (obviously), plus carrier ops(!), plus it's Canada's current jet, plus it's sexy as...(quickly opens new tab to check forum rules)...heck. :) TTW (Tangential Thought Warning)...I know the Super Bug is better overall, but I just can't take to the rectangular intakes or the exaggerated 'cobra hood' above them. Please ensure your seat backs and tray tables...
  19. Hey Vino. Once you hit "Buy" in the eStore, go to your shopping cart and hit "Checkout". Accept the EUA. If you weren't logged in, it'll ask you to. Then the Complete Order page will come up and show how many bonus bucks you can use toward the purchase. You still haven't committed to anything at this point. Cheers!
  20. Flaming Cliffs is finally dead! Long live Flaming Cliffs! :)
  21. I'm disappointed that some think I've in any way suggested taking something away; vs providing more options. Must really get some knickers in a knot to have the Game Flight and Game Avionics modes that currently exist for our beloved A-10C, F/A-18C, etc. I can only imagine the grinding of teeth at the very existence of the Gameplay tab in the options menu. I'm all for continuing and enhancing the growth of the study-level modules. I think it's an obvious win-win to open the door wider, grow our numbers, and increase revenue to our awesome developers. In my original post I emphasized "INITIAL" release when promoting a greater variety of modules faster; granted requiring simplification to expedite. I can't see it as a negative to have early-access to incomplete or imperfect aircraft flight-models and avionics and enjoy the half-full cup while waiting for it to fill. Oh, wait...that's exactly the way things work now with the early-access study sims! ;) Ok, that last bit was a big stretch for comparison in trying to drive my point. Respect to those who have the time and interest to become systems experts in order to successfully blow shit up and not die and one's own throttle and/or stick hand. ;) If we never see another non-clickable 'pit or simple/advanced flight-model again, I'll still continue with and love all the DCS goodness currently on board, and yet to come. Cheers all!
