what is your dead zone like. On my X56 I had to increase the dead zone a bit otherwise the thing had a mind of it's own. You could try mapping different designate button and see if that is interfering with your slew. On my X56 you can also set the button to Toggle so you can press it once and release move it around and press it again to designate. Not sure if I like that better or not.

Is there a way to reduce TDC slew sensitivity (in the HUD) for auto bomb without impacting the slew of the AGM65? I find that HUD slew is ridiculously fast and the AGM is too slow.

I was refueling yesterday when an AI F-14 decided I was taking to long and it was his turn. Just bumped into me and nocked me off the drogue

Ok well I added a bit of a dead zone and reduced the saturation under axis tune and that made the analog sticks usable. It still wants to drift some times and the movement is a little sluggish.\

I'm using an X56. The analog thumb Sticks work for the radar perfectly but I can't use them to slew the AGM65. touching the stick will cause the cursor to move uncontrollably to the gimbal limit. AGM65 analog slew seems to be an issue across multiple planes. I used to complain about the AV8 but in comparison that is actually usable unlike the F18. I hate the idea of switch the sticks to bands and binding keys to them. Analog would give you way more precise control if it would actually work. Of course it works perfect on the A10 wish everyone would just copy that code ;)

From hot start the TPOD kind of tracks ships. It will lock on to parts of the ship but loses lock pretty easy. I see that MAV Gs have a "SHIP" OSD button but it does nothing. Maybe the TPOD could get a ship option too. The 65Es are so slow and easy for a Destroyer to shoot them down. So 65Gs are still a better option. Setting a reference point for the 65Gs with the TPOD is very handy when trying to take out a Destroyer and dodge SAMs. One of the user missions I'm playing starts you with 4 65Gs and tasks you with taking out a Corvette. The ship is a ways out in the water and 4 65Gs will not sink the ship. So you either have to make a long trip back to shore (which throws the mission timing off) or enable unlimited ammo. I'm guessing the Mavs got a damage nerf at some point?

Ah I'll try a hot start. I think I did a hot start to test against land units then cold for ships. Thanks.

Is the TPOD supposed to be able to point track a ship? I can't seem to get it to lock on.
-
What are the following commands supposed to do and are the currently functioning Sensor Select DOWN: HUD Scene Reject/TGP? TDC Action/No Action Toggle - I think this is supposed to control slew speed but doesn't seem to work with analog slew control (TDC mapped in the Axis section)?

In Flight Refueling. Dying of frustration.
DarkClown replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in AV-8B N/A
Perhaps what you think is wake turbulence is the fact your plane will rise fall as you apply remove power even if perfectly trimmed. I'm constantly moving the stick and throttle the entire time I'm refueling. You can't just hook the basket and chill out. Again small input where you are making them before you think you need to. Don't use AFC it just wont work. I've tried turning it on before and every time flying "level" makes my plane drop below the tanker and disconnect. BlackLightning what kind of joystick/throttle do you have? Maybe it has jitter or isn't precise enough. I finally got a track to "accurately" record and have attached it. You can see how busy I am on the inputs (probably too busy). Sorry forgot to show the input window so you will need to look at the controls moving around. Without looking at the control inputs you would think the aircraft was flying nice and smooth. Hopefully it plays back correctly on someone else computer? p.s. Yes I forgot to put flaps in cruise and didn't put my visor down. refuel.trk -

@baltic_dragon yes I'm using the built-in single mission not the training mission. Some notes that I think are wrong with the KC-130: 1. There doesn't seem to be any drag/resistance after you make contact. The documentation on this says if you approach at +2kts and the drogue will sow to you +0kts from the drag. 2. The lack of collision detection is lame (IMHO). I would love to have the fear of sucking the drogue into my intake. 3. The fuel cable should have white bands on it so you can see how far past the drogue you have flown without looking. Some other interesting discoveries while I was goofing with refueling: 1. The KC-135 KCB(?) the one with the drogue adapter is broken and you can't refuel from it. This sucker was very hard to hit because of no reference point. I watch my probe go right through the basket and no connection. 2. If you fly the harrier inverted aerodynamics break down and for whatever reason you don't slow down at all in level flight (throttle cut). Even with the airbrake out I was not slowing down very much. Yes I was trying to refuel inverted. Of course you cant fly very long inverted either because the engine will flame out too. I just wanted to see if I could connect with the basket but once I would roll inverted the plan would speed up and not slow down so odd. -

In Flight Refueling. Dying of frustration.

This thread inspired me to run some practice on this today and after a few runs had it down pretty good. I had one refuel that was super slick I pulled right up called pre-contact and stuck the drogue as it was extending. Not anything a real pilot would do. I was all like I'm going to save that track show everyone how awesome I am. Then when I replayed the track I found out track playback doesn't actually work right. The track shows me flying right by the tanker and well below it. Then at the point I was happily refueling it slows the plane to 212kts and the tanker passes back by. I will say playing in VR probably makes this task a lot easier. Just like the real video I will glance at the drogue as it passes my head and then look back at the plane. This is not to make any correction just to make sure I'm going to stick it. If I need to correct (more than a little) I'm going to look back forward first and slow a little. I've pulled up pretty close before and still was taking fuel so not sure about it being to sensitive. Your angle may have been wrong (too low) or you got to aggressive with your inputs. You just got to keep the inputs minimal and remember to re-correct before you think you need to, especially throttle. Stay off the rudders too that seems to make it worse for me just little roll input. oh if you are using the RAZBAM provided single A2A refuel missing, I would edit the mission and pull the tanker back closer to the harrier so that your not spending a bunch of time just catching up. This will give you a lot more time to practice connecting. You can also set a low bingo fuel and turn on your dump switches when you get close. Maybe I'm using an older mission but the tanker is always doing 226kts for me -
I wish the Bell 212 was modeled instead of the 204. In a previous life I worked as a forestry fire fighter on a helitack crew. Our 212 was an absolute work horse. My favorite though was the Bell 47 with turbine conversion. As it is right now I feel like I'm playing EGT "death simulator" and not having much fun flying the 204.

Gunfighter MCG Pro MK.ii and MK.iv pedals
DarkClown replied to derbynew's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
shoot I would love to be able to get a Gunfighter but they are never in stock when I look and I don't see a way to preorder :(. I'm thinking MFG crosswinds for pedals as I like the idea of toe brakes. Right now (when it isn't in RMA process) I'm using an X56 and would really like a quality upgrade. Would also like the VKB throttle if that ever comes out (assuming at least one of the hats is analog). -
Ah that link was very informative. I think this was getting me: "2) Wait for the countdown on hud to complete after each lase, before using the laser again. " I was in manual mode and would track and fire as fast as possible. I'll give it a go tonight.
-
I've just been leaving it on once I get to the target area. Is there any indication that when the laser is cool enough to turn back on? I've switched it off for a little while then back on but didn't seem to help. I'll try to only use it when firing and see how that goes.
-
If I've been playing a mission for an extended amount of time the vikhrs will stop tracking the laser. I'll have a clear lock on a tank or something and they just hit the ground 200 meters in front of the KA-50. Is there any workaround to get them to track again, other than hurry my slow ass up and complete the mission? Maybe a switch a need to set after re-arming from an airfield? Thanks, Jeff

Yea I've been trying to complete the mission RUSSO_-_GEORGIAN_WAR_II (user built) that requires you to fire a lot of MAVs into ships. I have yet to complete the mission due to this crash. If you are careful you can see if the Mav TV display is frozen before you try to slew the mav. If it is you need to cycle the MFD and switch the mavs off and on that seems to clear the problem. This is more difficult when you are trying to fire at a ship that is flinging a metric crap ton of AA missiles at you. Maybe I should just edit the mission and add an A-10C that would solve the problem ;)
