  1. Indeed - traveling around the world you can understand how your home country isn't as bad as you thought, and the foreign country is not as good as you thought. As for the topic, the complexity of making a sim in todays standards is so big, that companies don't even bother. Long ago I was completely ignorant regarding it, but once I discovered how things work inside a "software simulation of flight running at interactive frame-rates", I started to respect much more those who do it. Only if MSFS had a combat-side...
  2. You are oversimplifying things. I hope ED doesn't do the same when developing Jets, or we will end with another LOMAC. Read "Vipers in the Storm" by Keith Rosenkranz, or talk to a real one, then come back and tell me how it is boring being a jet pilot.
  3. Huh? :helpsmilie:
  4. HEAT (shaped charge) weapons Coefficient of destruction = Warhead diameter and explosive power (not dependent on velocity) Protection = reactive armor, slat armor, logs, tracks, tires, anything that could disrupt the projectile from touching the armor Kinetic weapons Coefficient of destruction = Mass * Velocity * Density Protection = sheer armor / angled armor
  5. Absolutely amazing screens here! Really considering getting FEX too. Does it have a auto-weather generation like ActiveSky? Or it relies in FSX downloaded data?
  6. They certainly not control the same thing. Collective = blades angle of attack Cyclic = swash plate inclination You can see in F2 camera, helo stopped on the ground, move both and see the difference.
  7. Thanks a lot! Is that kind of info "real virtual" pilots should know. Can you upload your browser bookmarks? :book:
  8. At least the OP made quotemeas register in the forum just to answer to it! Ha! Welcome aboard quotemeas!
  9. Maybe you should give the sams attack areas with a 100km radius?
  10. Fishbone, I think that I have experienced the same as you. I found out that, whenever a micro-stutter starts in-game, alt-tabbing to the desktop and back into game clears out that micro-stutter (with or without changing affinity). In most missions this works well, but in some, when alt-tabbing back into the game, visual does not appear, only sounds and keyboard/joystick inputs. A solution or workaround would be disabling fullscreen mode, and setting the resolution to match your desktop, so you can alt+tab back and forth freely, but I found the FPS goes down big this way, mainly in city areas. Still looking out for a solution.
  11. Great read. Whatever happened at your job, be cool. Doing anything hot-headed is likely going to end in trouble. Relax, take a breath, count to 10, fly virtually a little (even FSX helps), and get some sleep. If the troubles does not disappear, at least the solution to it will be clearer. Good luck!
  12. Its interesting: In this thread, some people cheered the initiative made by a really talented guy, for his automatic mission generator for Lock-on. They praise the sighting of a living battlefield - a thing Falcon pilots had for years :D So I believe a DC system, internal or external to the simulation, would add a lot of enjoyment for us simmers. ED could be kind and, in the case they wouldn't want to develop a DC on its own for the foreseeable future, at least publish hooks and extensions to enable third-party developers to do their magic. I think this would mean a lot to the simmer community.
  13. Then I'm an exception :) 25 here, flying sims on PC since Falcon 3/4, Janes F-15 era, circa 1998. Got the Longbow and EECH era too. Currently settled with Open Falcon, FSX with realism add-ons and, of course, BlackShark!
  14. Nope, SEAD is suppression of enemy air defenses. Obviously, if an Apache pilot were faced with a shilka or strella, he will prioritize it as a target, but it doesn't mean the airframe was made for it. SEAD aircraft must have room for sophisticated electronics, able to pinpoint a radar location given its RF emissions, categorize it, and use specific weaponry (HARMs, ALARMs etc) to shutdown a site from a safe range (and for this one the aircraft should have a high kinetic potential, to give its missile a range/speed advantage and to escape a possible hypersonic SAM), and to preemptively force SAM operators to shut down. Actually, a SEAD mission can be successfully accomplished without even kill the enemy, if the jammers can protect the escorted package by disallowing enemy radars from functioning (EF-111/EA-6B), or if the loitering ARMs fired can provide a deterrence force preventing the radar operators from turning on their radars (something that happened a lot in Iraq but mostly Yugoslavia). Of course there are DEAD missions (destruction of EAD) for which some aircraft like A-10 and the Apache are able to participate after the radar threat has been neutralized. And in Iraq the Apaches killed an EW site. A radar does not fire back. The next missions were covered with Ravens and Prowlers. I'd strongly recommend those links for more information on the general subject of electronic warfare, I think this is as close as it gets to the real deal for the general public since the crucial details are of course classified. http://www.ausairpower.net/iw.html http://www.ausairpower.net/isr-ncw.html Actually, it would be nice to know if DCS models radar jamming at some degree, but since there is no Raven/Prowler/Growler models I would guess no.
  15. I got a huge boost in enjoyment by assigning my TIR Z Axis to both Longitude Camera (the default) and Zoom View, and setting TIR sensitivity on Z axis so less head movement = more axis movement. This way, I move closer to the screen and you both zoom in and move forward in simulation, so it compensates for me the lack of resolution and depth perception of computer displays (even in 24" 1920x1200, its not like real-world :))
  16. Retract your gear after taking off. Turn master arm ON before shooting. When flying in a cold environment, snowing or up in the mountains, turn all your ANTI-ICE devices (rotor de-ice and engines de-ice, pitot & AOA heat), all in your TOP panel. You should have 5 green lights in the top lights panel.
  17. I like to hit the ABRIS and Nav (right wall panel) as soon as I get battery power, since they take a long time to initialize. Also, while engines are spooling up, I switch on the remainder systems. This optimization lets me accomplish full manual ramp start in less than 2 minutes.
  18. RedTiger, nope, the mission editor is the same as previous iterations of OF/SP series. There are some restraints to what we can modify, and this is one of those areas.
