  1. I have a G2 gathering dust. My son had it awhile but santa brought him Quest 3 so after that it has not been used. From what I understood WMR support is not there anymore. I would like to put it in ebay or something, but it has no sense if some casual buyer buys it and raises a hell, because it is not working. Is there a use scenario for it (linux maybe) that someone might actually be interested in it and gets a value for his money? I am really thinking about putting some pointers into the description that people would get an idea that it might not be unproblematic, but if you put some work on it, you might get it to run ... somewhere ... somehow. Or should I just dump it?
  2. I just noted that I can not even use my Printer (Wifi connection) as a scanner with NordVPN running...funny enough it prints though. Now I start seriously consider options to switching to another VPN software, this sucks, it starts getting too invasive to my liking. I was going through the settings and there is something called trusted network, I would like to try to define my home network as trusted, maybe that would solve something... No idea where to do that ... maybe in windows settings. I hate this sh!t
  3. Yes, could be, but the game starts if NordVPN is off and it does not if it is on. Now, obviously, DCS wants to communicate with something at the mission starts and it somehow does not work with VPN and leads to CTD. could be the Martians for all I know.
  4. I'll chime in. I have now, exactly the same problem. Once the game start loading, for example after selecting the mission and so on from instant action, it brings up the loading splash screen and ... crashes. I went already through all the variations what might have been broken, updated nvidia drivers and tried everything possible with my VR headset until I came here. I switched off NordVPN and it worked. This is something new, last weekend the game was working just fine and I did not really change many things, so it was very difficult to figure out...
  5. I think that slewing is not the problem. The trouble I am having is to get it pointed in the first place. For some reason I did not have the snowplow available to get it pointed somewhere in the first place - so in that case it was probably targeted at the active waypoint, which in this case was somewhere miles and miles away. I hazard a guess here, but I think the snowplow should really be available at all times and frankly I find it truly odd that you do not get to point the TPOD with helmet if not carrying the A-G weapons (with VIS option). Particularly in real life I am positive that F-16 does quite a lot of all kinds of search missions without carrying ground ordnance and stuff like that where you really want to use the TPOD for looking around. Search and Rescue kind of stuff...
  6. I was - I think I need to test it in mission editor once more. I know that with VIS mode and frankly it truly sucks. Most of the time, for example, with Maverick, I actually want PRE, but first in order to point something with TPOD I need to switch to VIS, then use helmet to point roughly at target. Use TPOD to fine tune and in the meantime switch to PRE on the Maverick. Frankly, I think that if that is the real procedure and human machine interface and a real pilot has to do it that way, when the bullets are flying, he will scream a bloody murder if he makes it back home... It is funny how Hornet all the sudden feel rather gamey in comparison to F-16C, but somewhere there, F-16C feels very quirky when it comes down to things like this...
  7. I am playing Arctic Thunder campaign from Reflected with F-16C. I had a mission where you end up providing cover after a A-A sortie. The POD was in loadout. What I fleetingly noticed, but had no time to put any effort on this was. That somehow, for example, the Snow Plow option was missing. So I could not really have a look at the ground targets in vicinity. I might have put a mark on the ground with fly-over (if I could remember how to do it) and maybe then get the TPOD to point at the mark point and then work my way through from there, but frankly that would suck. I also noticed that, since I only had couple of Sidewinders and my empty gun, I could not use the Helmet to target anything on ground. Am I missing something here?
  8. I found this from thingverse https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6717025. I already made my first changes and ordered couple of springs from amazon. It may be that the friction adjustment might get better after some hours, but like I said, I do not like how much force you need to use to overcome static friction, so at the moment I use very little friction. The positive thing about the 3D printed models is, that I can get the position of the interfaces on the throttles and do my own rigging. Afterburner detent is good for jets, but it sucks with helicopters, I am looking for something that I can easily adapt on the fly. I am also thinking that I would rather have a friction brake that I can easily set in any position, but something that I can lift it so that the movement is easy.
  9. I have Orion2 base and the Strike Ace EX II grips. I am flying both helos and fixed wing. I come from Thrustmaster Warthog and until now I have been rather happy with the package. Now, the biggest problem or irritation is coming from the fact that the throttle grips are rather heavy and in order to have them keep their position I need to set the friction rather high. There is notable difference between static and dynamic friction here, the Thrustmaster was smoother. So small precise adjustments are rather irritating as you always need to come over the static friction and once the lever is moving you tend to move it too much. Now, I was doing quite well with F-16C when the throttles were bundled togethet, but F/A-18 is more pain in the butt. The throttles tend to creep forward to afterburner and unlike in F-16C cockpit you do not even have a clear indication in cockpit when the engine is on burner, except the jump in FF. So in F-16C I was able to search the max mil power position and calm the throttle at that point. With F/A-18 I couple the throttles together after start, but missing the detent is disturbing. I might adjust the curvature so that I operate the mil power up to the point that the throttle is upright and make the afterburner part longer. Anyway, I am now thinking of equipping my throttle with fingerlifts, but I wonder whether it really solves anything, except the clear AB detent? The friction issue is lkely to remain. I would rather have a fingerlift or a friction brake that I can engage at any given point. When I am in need of adjustments I would like to have as little friction as possible, like during aerial refuelling. Another thing is that Winwing seems to have quite a long delivery times for fingerlifts, if I order them separately. I wonder if there are any really usable 3D print DYI alternatives?
  10. I just noticed in Mission 01 that you need to set-up the TCN and IFF. I am not sure whether it has any meaning, until now I have only been the receiving end of TCN, so first time I am setting it up for myself. So Just TCN in UFC, type in the freq A/A and On, right? Just asking myself, where does the system now that I am sending? I thought A/A is sort of for aerial senders, where do I define that I am the sender? Bit confused here... Then IFF - not sure if it has any meaning here - I just want to do things for some perfection. So I am not sure I can follow these M3 M4 and SPOT stuffs. I actually opened the .pdfs although from the intro I got the intro that it is ok to be a lazy bastard. Well, I could not find a damn thing... I need to crack on, I have mission 01 on pause and I am sure that I need to play it couple of times, but now I'll just crack on...
  11. Great, thanks. Meanwhile, I missed your reply and did some edit above. I was actually talking about LITENING, also on Hornet. It seems to be different in F/A-18, there the caret live update seems to be missing (if TGP is SOI).
  12. Thanks for the clarification, would be cool if you could give some timestamps, where you did what. I see that in the beginning the TGP seems to be SOI and it is then ground stabilized. Not sure again where one can identify that I get lost with the different TGP symbologies and usage (Harrier which I played recently few campaigns is again a story of its own, everything is lightening TGPs but there are significant differences). Somewhere around 12s you undesignate and the whole caret goes away? The thing is that it is now couple of months since I played F/A-18 campaign and it is just in the back of my mind. BUT I think that if you have snowplow on and designate or you designate with HMD and then switch TGP as SOI, you do not get updates on HUD nor on HMD when you start slewing. I might be mistaken here and I try to check it out as soon as possible. It's getting a bit OT or wrong forum section, but it is nevertheless rather informative. EDIT: I ran some tests. I assume that you actually used ATFLIR in your example. My perception was coming from LITENING. AFAICS ATFLIR really updates the HUD caret if it is a SOI and I am slewing, however, LITENING does not. If it is SOI and I slew I see no updates on HUD or HMS, only if I press the TDC it updates the position on the HUD momentarily, if I keep on slewing it does not follow. I primarily play offline campaigns and I think that LITENING is by far the more common TGP used in F/A-18 campaigns. I am actually not sure, how it is in reality...
  13. This is clear, however, in this particular case if you are able to point your TPOD using helmet or HUD and place the marker on the ground, the avionics are sure as h3ll able to do the opposite and update the marker position visualization on the ground if I make TGP SOI and start slewing, it is pretty important too to switch between viewing displays and the world outside - there is nothing philosophical there and no reason or rational whatsoever to leave out that to aid the effective operation. So yes, I am skeptical that this is the case in the reality. I have got pretty often confused as in "where did I just slew my TPOD to" - resetting and starting the target acquisition again from the point a is just not very efficient.
  14. Ok this might be the thing I was missing - strange - one did not need to bother with this in F/A-18, or anywhere for that matter. There are other strange illogical disconnects between the modules as well. For example A-10 and F-16 are consistent that when you have TGP as SOI and slew, you also see the box in HUD or helmet moving, in Hornet it does not update the position - I doubt this is correctly modeled in F/A-18. Anyway, the boresighting seems to be a pain in the butt as you need an object or a target to do that. I doubt the ground will do as the stuff is simply too close but I'll give it a try, in the air I will hardly have time on those missions, it seems that I need a ground target and a lock for that...
  15. Ok, I pressed that also few times, but I still did not seem to get to waypoint. Maybe CZ then previous and next waypoint - does it matter here which sensor is SOI? also do I or do I not need to have HSD up? I just realized that maybe HSD is the better aid for situational awareness that HAD, at least I should get around with markpoints
  16. In the first second I got really thrilled by the F-16C, coming from other modules, maybe F/A-18 as the primary contender. I played the trainings and looked through couple of YouTube videos and I started playing the Wild Weasel Campaign. So far ok, but now with Mission 3 I have to admit that I am not very proficient with TPOD. Maybe I start with stuff I found out before that. I prefer the HAD to the HSD as I can select the enemy radar and get the TPOD into the right direction (thrilled as I am not aware F/A-18 working this way, until now the third display has been more informative but other than that, not really that much use) Well once I get the TPOD somewhere there I start looking and I might find it. At this point comes the first irritation. I may get my target to a nice point track and I decide to go for mavericks instead of GBU38. If I switch then to PRE and stuff, the TPOD now points to whereever, but my nice little point track is gone and my target is again somewhere. How can I return there or how do I avoid this behaviour altogether? I saw somewhere that you could define offset targets and get back to those, but most of the time I do not even see that TGT on TPOD display? Is there some strange condition, like weapon needs to be on PRE or VIS or whatever. Then back to the Maverick. I put TPOD to AUTO and MAV to PRE and I have my point track, but the Maverick seeker keeps on pointing to wherever, but certainly not to my TPOD point. I have not really managed one single time to get that lock from TPOD. I would expect the seeker to point to that TPOD point, even if it does not get a lock so that I can use the WPN view and try a manual lock, but it is pointing ... whereever. Then comes the funny part. I can not even get my TPOD to point to a Steerpoint? Sometimes I can, but now in the heat of the battle - no joy. Again, are there some strange conditions that need to be fulfilled before that happens. Maybe my problem is the use of HAD and not the HSD? Do I need to have that one up? And maybe I need to get more into the markpoints, to really get quick way to return to the target if I loose it... The problem is - I do not know which one is bug and which one is me. F-16C feels already quite complete, but it is still early access, so I do not know. The same thing with older youtube videos, some things may have changed...
  17. I see, I downloaded the manual for springs and dampers kit, but actually the description of the characteristics and springs is in the orion 2 joystick base manual
  18. Oh, I finally got to check it once more - I got distracted by new joystick set-up, the quad view was not active, but then on the other hand, when I activate it I get an exclamation mark that says: "Warning! Active OpenXR layers detected: OpenXR-Varjo-Foveated\XR_APILAYER_MBUCCHIA_varjo_foveated" What about actually the Eye Tracking Option? It is also deactivated, but I wonder if it does anything useful?
  19. What I found disturbing, was that I got a bag of stuff. Some levers and springs, but no information what is what. Springs was easy enough to figure that there are different stiffnesses, so far so good, but I could find no description to the markings on the levers and what how the different levers should effect the things.
  20. Yes, well, I am not really interested in profiles from someone else. I have never really been able to keep myself from doing my own adaptations. Coming from Thrustmaster and Target, the first impression is that the software side from WinWing is seriously limited. The stick is good, excellent even...
  21. I have no idea how to get started with that thing. Well, of course, I am trying to create a profile for a new aircraft. I have Gazelle, and in SimAppPro I can actually see SA342, SA342L SA342Minigun and SA342Mistral, but somehow when I made keybindings for SA342 Pilot and CoPilot and when I try to do "Create from Game" SimAppPro complains that it can''t find anything. What does it do anyways? I have now mapped some buttons and the axis in the settings and I even saved different configurations for buttons and so on, separately for Joystick and Throttle. Now since the mapping is there in the game, for buttons and stuff - what do I need the SimAppPro for? I guess it is something about sharing and caring but that's it? Now If I can not see the correct aircraft what can I do? (I can see that Mi-24P has Pilot and Gunner and so on, but not actually SA342...I think those profiles exist from the time before Gazelle got updated.
  22. Isn't the SimAppPro like direct button bindings then? I saw in DCS that you can actually assign something into modifiers, I usually have my Warthog Paddle Switch as a modifier, but in Target. I ordered myself the Hotas because of Black Friday, so it got a little bit more concrete since opening this thread. I am not sure what you actually mean with direct keypress bidings or do a basic scipt. Is that a functionality in SimAppPro or do you then do it outside? Joy2Key isn't really "my thing" - I used is many many years ago, it seems to have gained functionality and seems to be supporting long-press and some other tweaky functions, so it might come close to replicating Target. I wonder whether I can combine the SimAppPro and joy2key. As far as I understood SimAppPro just changes they keymappings in some .lua files and you can map some axes to replicate buttons or axis, so it is rather one dimensional. I suppose the button and axis mapping is then written to respective aircraft keymappings and nothing else. Well, I guess there is nothing to it, except wait for the delivery and then see how to get it to do my bidding. There are anyway more buttons, so there is less need for the tricks I did with Warthog to squeeze out the functionality...that is also part of the fun for me...
  23. With the old launcher I used to have: "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin-mt\DCS.exe" --force_openXR and it launched with multi-CPU and was it "quad-view" anyway I mean with foveated rendering in VR (I have Varjo Aero). Since there is a new launcher I have been happily playing, but it just occurred to me that I have actually no idea if it is still running on those parameters? I used to see the foveated rendering in Night Vision Goggles on some planes, was it A-10 or F/A-18, I would need to test it, but just for now, I would like to ask if anyone actually knows?
  24. So you can only map the buttons directly into DCS? Or can you also map the buttons to keypresses? If not, I guess you can use joy2key or something like that, but it would sound so 20th century...? Also looking at some reviews or SimAppPro videos on YouTube, it seems that there are also no such things as designating for example the joystick paddle as a "Shift", or was is also possible in DCS...need to check it...
  25. I am using a Thrustmaster Warthog and every now and then I am taking a look around. I am an odd bird in that I really like the Thrustmaster Target (might be the only simmer that actually does, judging from the whining about it). Anyway, can anybody give a quick heads-up for WinWing. Does the software provide similar or better scripting capabilities? What I like in Target is, the possibility to chain commands, differentiate between short and long presses. Also I can use some three point switches to change the mappings of other buttons, so I can have a switch to define a ground attack and air-2-air button maps and stuff like that. How does this work with WinWing? Another question. I think I heard from one Youtube review or another that you can mix joystick bases and stuff like that between Virpil and WinWing? Is this correct? In such a case - what do you do with the software? In this second I have no solid intention of switching, but I would like to know the state of the things, since my Thrustmaster is coming into years and I guess the only viable options are WinWing and VIrpil, whereas I get a slightly better impression about WinWing - it seems to offer more for slightly less money. I actually just ordered WinWing pedals for myself, but there is hardly any relevant symbiosis with the stick and the throttle...
