Black Shark 2: Republic Campaign
Chelco replied to kontiuka's topic in Black Shark 2 The Republic Campaign
Wallet ready I'm looking forward to go home and play this campaign. Thanks! -
Hi, Bump. I had very limited success using the CCRP. Many times the bomb just don't release. Is there any sort of altitude, angle of dive, airspeed parameters that need to be met in order to get the bombs released. In manual mode, I can't stop kicking ass. :music_whistling: Cheers, JC

Waiting for first discount on DCS: Mi-8MTV2
Chelco replied to captainteemo's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Ah, OK. To compensate for the loss of full-price/early-adopters/customers, I suppose. Cheers, -
Waiting for first discount on DCS: Mi-8MTV2
Chelco replied to captainteemo's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Yeah, whatever. It's just money and yet another groundhog day. But, is this company in trouble or something? Quite unusual to have such a deep discount on a product that came out just 15 days ago. -
Very good writing BeachAV8R. Very balanced, too. It's good to see great and careful journalism about the DCS Huey coming out. Let's not forget that SimHQ had also a great and balanced preview up before that other guy's ego started writing checks his pilotage can't cash.

That's a good one and I'm adopting it. It would be great if the controls red window would show some sort of number regarding the position of the collective.
-
Thanks for reading and/or watching. At 20 kts, I find myself already in good shape to control the bird. I find the collective adjustments needed less drastic at that speed ... I tried it with the update but did not notice any difference in the flight model. Did the update changed anything for the Huey? Cheers,

Need Help (Big Time) - Approach Speed Control and Landing
Chelco replied to jjohnson241's topic in DCS: UH-1H
In my hands, the critical airspeed where hell breaks loose is 40 kts. I got over it finally, although my airspeed control is still bumpy at <40 kts. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=107261 And a video of my landing: -
While attempting to land, I have crashed the DCS Huey quite and good for a long time. It was time to watch again the official tutorial video and pay very close attention. Fortunately I found what I was doing wrong. 1) Taught that the collective determines the rate of descent, I was convinced that the collective should only go down or stay put. Less collective = less lift and whatnot. I am supposed to descend for the landing after all. In the official tutorial video there is a very short sequence in which the instructor says that during the approach, when the airspeed goes below 40 kts, the collective should go a bit up. It's to compensate for the ever dwindling translational lift. In my previous death-ridden virtual pilot career, I was reserving that collective up move for the flare immediate before touchdown. This resulted in an awful rate of descent when my airspeed was around 25ish kts, followed by an unavoidable settling with power and vortex ring state ... So now what I'm doing is to pull up some collective when the airspeed falls below 40 kts and I'm getting far better outcomes. Not hitting the armpit with the thing, just a sensible correction to keep the bird airborne and descending slowly when the airspeed gets low. 2) Somehow I was convinced that my final approach airspeed should be that of a brisk walk, starting some 60 meters before touchdown. I was very worried about overshooting. This penchant for low airspeed compounded very bad with my shyness on the collective (see above). Now I'm approaching at 15ish kts, to just a dozen meters before the actual touchdown. There is room to flare and slow down to no forward airspeed and do the final hover. I put together to show how it looks. I don't claim perfection or even the most remote semblance to good technique. Indeed the video shows how much I struggled with keeping a good airspeed during the approach and how I sank before the tree line. But I thought it may help somebody or at least to have a discussion about landings.

Proof of USAF insanity - H-1 normal landing approach
Chelco replied to Sundowner.pl's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Thanks, Robert. Yes, I agree. There is this report, which you can argue is rather old: A momentum analysis of helicopters and autogyros in inclined descent, with comments on operational restrictions. Technical Report TN D-7917, NASA Langley Research Center, 1975. In page 22 it says: "... power settling is unlikely to occur if the glide slope is shallow. Limiting glide slopes to 10 or 15 degrees avoids power settling at almost any forward speed". Figure 12 of the same report is quite a descriptive plot of the conditions under which power settling occurs according to the momentum theory, and sure enough at glide slopes >30 degrees helicopters start settling with power at relatively high descent rates. My point is that 30 degree descent slope in that manual could be related to that report. -
Proof of USAF insanity - H-1 normal landing approach
Chelco replied to Sundowner.pl's topic in DCS: UH-1H
It should be doable now that we have an improved FM. Anybody tried? Off topic: that manual H-1 Pilot Student Guide 1550th Aircrew Training and Test Wing USAF 1978 Is it available from somewhere? Cheers, -
That's a great book, DPS. Thanks for the heads up. I had it in my library for a year already and never got really into it. The time has come! On a lighter and more fundamental tone, I have also this one: Learning to Fly Helicopters, by R. Padfield Basic, but nonetheless useful for all the virtual pilots out there making a transition from fixed wing aircraft. Cheers,

Meh! This weekend I've managed to crash into the right airbase. :)

My autoupdater can't even find the server now. I will just wait a couple of weeks. :music_whistling:

Can I already uninstall the non-DCS-World BS2 and A-10C?
Chelco replied to Chelco's topic in General Questions
Awesome! I didn't upgrade my DCS World in a while and definitively un-installing and re-installing was not fun. :) So, it's time to free up some HD space. Thanks again, JC -
Can I already uninstall the non-DCS-World BS2 and A-10C?
Chelco replied to Chelco's topic in General Questions
OK, thanks! Those are good news. So, it is unlikely that in the future we will have to uninstall DCS world to upgrade it? JC -
Ey folks, Congrats ED team for the recent release of FC3. Enjoyed it through the weekend ... Right before FC3 I was running DCS world 1.1, I think so I went through the dance of unistalling and reinstalling the whole package. I have now DCS world up to date and its up to date modules A-10C, Combined Arms, Black Shark 2 Update and FC3 beta. I was wondering if I can uninstall the original A-10C, FC2, BS2 and BS1? Will future updates require having these installed? Thanks in advance, JC

Hi doveman, Check your PM> Cheers,
-
To the guy above: Excuse me? To the original poster: maybe your pedals are (unknown to you) trimmed to the left/right and that's why you spin (?). [RCtrl] + [Enter] will show you where your pedals are. Check your PM today or tomorrow. I will be posting something in my blog about this very thing tomorrow morning and I will be thrilled if you could read it.
-
Nothing helped me more to understand what the trimmer is doing to my Shark than the collective/cyclic indicator that pops out after pressing [RCtrl]+[Enter] Cheers,

@ Krunkskimo and todd022: Thanks for your service! Cheers,

Hey gents, I'm playing a mission where I am providing emergency CAS to a non-JTAC US Marines squad and the IR strobes would have been great to pinpoint their position. So far I used the coordinates to locate them. Hard to tell friend or foe when it gets personal down there. Cheers,

Glad you liked it Invisibull. Cheers,

Ey @ntonis, Once you figure out how to trim, please take a look at this post in my blog: http://kriegsimulation.blogspot.com/2010/10/dcs-10c-warthog-angle-of-attack-watch_24.html Let me know what you think. Cheers,
