As the OP, I approve this thread. It was exactly what I was hoping to get albeit some additional data on the Win 10 vs Win 11 performance and anecdotal comparisons would be nice. At least right now, my reasons to keep Win 10 outweigh the reasons to downgrade to Win 11. Hello DOS!... And I don't mean "Disk Operating System". There only a few people in this world that will get the last sentence...

I say "recently" because if you went to Win 11 more than say 6 mos ago, you probably had no qualms about a "new & improved" OS anyway... So, what's been your experience? Was the change a step backward with settings lost, unexpected crashes, slower performance from bloatware, etc... And... Can I keep all my joystick files or am I doomed to recreating them all? Anything else to save?

Towering clouds, will they ever come?
Cavemanhead replied to AKULA_OPTIMUS's topic in Clouds & Weather System
But... It has to be done right or not at all. It's very tough making thunderheads in a sim. They just look "fake" relative to other in-sim cloud types. -
Cockpit view looks wrong. need fixing?
Cavemanhead replied to zmz125000's topic in Bugs and Problems
Thanks for being so selfless and sharing. This is such useful information and so very much appreciated! -
Does anyone know if the carrier deck in DCS can pitch as in the YT video below (reference at 2:10)? Would be great to see this added at some point... Very cool video too - "made from scratch".

F-14A/B Flight Model Tuning - Guided Discussion
Cavemanhead replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I'll just say this... I hope any FM changes to the F-14 moving forward are "in the noise". It (and the F-4) just feel right. They feel like they're heavy yet "flying". I don't know how close the "numbers" are to every point in the flight envelope, but I do know that the sensation of flight is amazing. You just feel that the plane is under the control of some very organic atmospheric physics... behaving to control inputs as it's supposed to behave. You can really feel the depth/quality of the FM while practicing carrier landings... What a great technical achievement. Kudos to HB for a job well done. -
Maybe someone knows if this is possible but I just want the ability to be "first person" after ejecting from the Spitfire (and probably any plane). Once my chute opens, I just want a clear view to look all around and watch the action. Like I can turn off the pilot figure in the cockpit... I want to be able to do the same thing after I bail out... Is there a shortcut key for this? If not, there needs to be! I think keeping the chute would be ok but an option to get rid of that too would be nice...

Cool project(s)... Does DCS have the capability to render only the external view with no cockpit whatsoever for full cockpit setups like this ones showed in this thread. It would make no sense to render a cockpit view and obscure the screen if one already has a 3D-simulated cockpit IRL...

What is the best collective controller?
Cavemanhead replied to Cavemanhead's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Really? I'm surprised nobody here has a Virpil collective (or some other type)... Just looking for a few opinions based on real world experience... -
I Have Vipil equipment for fixed wing and have loved it! Its great quality and functionality and I'm looking for a great hardware option for the collective. Is Virpil considered high end and/or best bang for the buck or should I open up my view to additional options?

I fly the F-14 for carrier ops 99% of the time and typically just practice trapping so I'm in a constant state of Launching and trapping over and over again - sometimes 1-20 in a row to get proficient. I'm hoping there is a mode for people like me that land, unhook, and taxi to the nearest cat for launch. I hope this capability remains!

Has anybody tried Running TET in DCS with the new version of Opentrack rather than the gamehub software? I use TET 5 for head tracking only. At least for IL-2, Opentrack seems to give much more view angles than the Game hub driver can.
